Google
Other people’s reviews gave me the impression that the service isn’t great and that they’re pretty rude but the food makes up for it. I went anyway for the food and wanted to decide for myself if they were nice/rude. I quickly came to the conclusion that they are indeed curt. But whatever, it doesn’t matter THAT much—what matters most is the food. At first glance the food looks great but it was lacking in flavor. I ordered roti with both garlic and cheese. It was just ok, edible. I also ordered the chicken tikka masala spicy and it came through in heat but again, not in flavor. The worst part honestly was that the chicken was super, super dry. I am pretty disappointed considering the reviews I’ve read brought me here. I love Indian food and have been craving some but unfortunately this didn’t satisfy me.

Google
I already read other people reviews before going there but i thought lets give it a try. The naan we ordered felt like frozen naans from some indian grocery store , everything else was not so bad but it was average food .

Google
If I lived here, I would definitely be a regular. We got the chicken tikka masala. It was super creamy and had all the spices. It was a pint full of chicken tikka masala with loads of chicken breast meat. I can't wait to try their other options.

This truck is now called Reddy Dhaba and it is the only food truck that is active in that parking lot. The owner owns other food trucks as well i.e. Austin Dosa in that parking lot but they are not active. Looks like he combined the menu of all the food trucks into one and operating from this truck. We ordered dosa and mango Lassi which was good.

Google
We're regulars here, live in the neighborhood, and recommend! The chef is always nice, food is ready right away, and it's consistently good.

Google
Decent food but the guy gives 0 crap abt his social media accounts and hours of operation reported. Shows open on google, you show up and it’s closed. Shows closed on door dash, you show up and it’s open. Not sure if they wanna do business

Yelp
We ended up at this place after surfing the city for awhile. We were in search of tacos but we stopped here. Thank god we did not find any good tacos in this area as this place is fantastic! I had lamb Bryani and my wife chicken masala. Food was delicious, the portions super big!! We could not finish it up not for lack of trying but it was just too much to delicious food. 100% recommend!
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
First time! We got chicken tikki masala and lamb curry to-go. The food was warm and delicious, rice was plentiful. Tikki masala has a lot of tomato flavor, which is great for a tomato lover! Curries do have spice, but they are not spicy hot-it is just right. Food is more on the overpriced side especially for a food truck though. There are also no prices on the website menu.
google avatar

Yelp
BEST mango lassi I've ever had. Paneer tikka masala, garlic naan, samosas and chutney were absolutely delicious. The owner is super sweet! Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. One of the best spots for Indian food in Austin!

Yelp
This review is for the Derry Dhaba food truck. The Mysore Masala Dosa was a 4 stars, but the service was so bad...the guy reminded me of the soup nazi from Seinfeld. It was like, the foods so good, people are willing to put up with his terrible treatment. There was a little group of people when we got there. Some were waiting for their orders, and other were waiting to order. There was a couple before us that was waiting to order, because everytime they walked up, he would turn them away. He also did this to us. I guess his system is to wait until food is served before taking another order, but the way he does it makes you feel like such a burden! Ugh, by that point, we had waited around too long to leave, so we got our food. The dosa was good, but we probably wont go back.

Yelp
Bombay Dhaba is amazing with their selections from their signature chicken tika masala to their goat curry.

Yelp
Overall decent, but "Good" because I don't think I've had a more flavorful samosa anywhere. We tried a few items: chicken biryani, butter chicken, curry chicken, and chicken korma. And the samosa I already mentioned. All items were decent. I really have no complaints. I was pleased that the boneless chicken in the biryani was not breaded (yes, that is a real concern, such an abomination exists). The raita was fresh and plentiful. The shorba was thick and full-bodied. The portion of chicken was very generous. I would get it again. It's not the layered biryani you might expect with an egg and some onion, but it's more uniform and evenly spiced. Still great. The korma was a little different -- it didn't have much sweetness, but I think this flavoring was very pure. It's the only korma that I've really been able to taste pure cashew flavor. And they made it velvety smooth. It's definitely worth ordering. The butter chicken was slightly strong on the fenugrec, but it was also velvety smooth. Judging alone on consistency, it's quite a nice dish. The curry chicken was a bit more tomatoey and loose. It was a nice alternative to the thicker curries on offer. We asked for added potatoes. Flavoring was good. Rice was aromatic and cooked nicely. Rice portions were generous as well. Chicken portions were generous in all dishes. The value for the money here is absolutely great. I did notice the attitude of the gentleman working the counter was a bit terse. We had a difficult call placing the order, but we got through it. He seemed concerned with putting out a good meal, though, so I can't really complain. The bottom line: if you live downtown or near downtown, it's worth crossing the river for this truck. There aren't many Indian options in this area. We had Teji's last week and spent the same amount of money for half the portions (and 1/4 the protein portions). Clay Pit is over-hyped and overpriced. Reddy Dhaba is good, give it a shot.

Yelp
Our first time in Austin and we're so hungry and excited to eat Indian Foods. The Customer service is so poor and not friendly at all. They handed out the order sheet to my son to write our order. They said they have no more Lamb. So we ordered Chicken Curry , Vegetable Biryani and Goat Biryani. Almost 9Pm and so asked them to make it ToGo. We were so outraged once we got into our Hotel and opened out foods. 3 orders were all the same, w/ three little bowls of pure veggie soup. There's no chicken Curry, no Goat Biryani. We paid $54 and pretty much ate 3 pieces of some kinda of bread and 3 small bowls of soups. Total ripped off. It's late and we're so tired to give them a call or come back. Too bad there's no choice of zero or half star. Worse experience ever. Not worth a trip.‍

Yelp
What an experience driving up to this little truck for a late Sunday lunch. Loved the food and we were lucky with the weather too Reddy took our orders, brought all the food to our table while we chatted and enjoyed the gentle sound of the brook behind the truck The food was AMAZING. Serving sizes were huge and the condiments were nice and hot. The only reason for not giving the fifth star is the price of their fare. Expensive!
google avatar

Nidhi V.

Yelp
came here because the reviews are amazing-- and was severely disappointed:( Not sure if we came on a bad day. The dosa they gave us was burnt, the mango lassis were horrible (it's like the added water in it!) and the biryani was ok. Serving sizes are huge which is a plus but honestly I would not come back here.

Yelp
SO GOOD. The naan was incredible. Delicious tikka masala. The service was great too!!

Yelp
This place has the BEST samosas in Texas!! Every time I'm in Austin I make a point to stop by and get an order whether I'm hungry or not! LoL The owner is so friendly, the food is always freshly made and the prices are great for the amount of food you get! I tell ALL my friends about this place and have turned several friends on to it. It's everyone's favorite Indian food place now! I wish they could explained to maybe Cedar Park or Round Rock but I don't think food trucks are all that popular around there. Maybe just a North Austin location would work?

Yelp
The best Indian food in South Austin! Biryani is a must and the cheese naan is amazong
google avatar

Brenda C.

Yelp
The food was mediocre (veg Korma), Naan was fresh and best part. I'm not sure who the man was that walked our food to the table, but he has a serious attitude and an apparent problem with white/black couple. Dropped food on table, didn't speak A WORD...yet turned around to the Indian couple and asked can I get you anything? Came back to ask other couple "how is the food, need anything?" Never said a single word to us. Wont be back.

Yelp
We liked the masala chai, masala dosa; plain dosa was really good. The Sambhar and chutneys were not bad. Papdi chaat was good as well. Overall good one!

Yelp
This has been one of our go to restaurant for some te now for good north indian food. The food over here is fresh and consistent in taste. We normally order paneer tikka masala, veg Korma and saag paneer. All 3 are very good in taste. Paneer tikka being a little tangy due to tomato gravy, veg Korma with a hint of sweetness, not too sweet and saag paneer is very good compared to all other places. The best things is they don't use heavy cream as it's evidently visible in all other restaurants. Also, the tawa roti is very healthy and fresh. I saw healthy since this is wheat flour and not all purpose. Also the Veg biryani is perfect level of spice and flavor. A special mention that they give very generous quantity.

Yelp
This is a rating for Reddy Dhaba, which has taken over the old Bombay Dhaba truck. The sambar takes me back to home and I come here just order that in bulk sometimes. The dosas are huge and can be good for multiple meals. Vada is also great. Definitely recommend others to try this place out.
google avatar

Yelp
There's a handful of interesting Indian spots around Austin but Bombay Dhaba is quite possibly the most scrappy of them all. It's a small food truck located off the South 1st foodtruck park that also has a few other trucks (believe there's also Thai, Mediterranean, and some other options) in the same park. The first thing that comes to mind after you get your order is PORTION SIZE. I'm a fatty and usually eat enough for two but couldn't finish a single order and ended up saving it for another meal. The second thing that comes to mind is SPICE, both in flavor (great) and spiciness (good kick). I ordered the Lamb Vindaloo and loved every bite. The basmati rice is super well seasoned and the Raita it comes with (light cucumber yogurt) balances out the curry and the spice incredibly well. A friend also tried the Samosa and was a big fan. Overall, would highly recommend to someone looking for some 'hidden', delicious Indian food.
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night, the lot had a couple of food trucks and none of them were particularly busy. I had heard great things about their roti so I decided to try here. For my entree I had the chicken vindaloo, the sauce wasn't particularly flavorful, much more tomatoey than the usual chili spice you'd expect from vindaloo. The chicken was pretty dry and the potatoes fell apart too easily when trying to pick them up. At the very least the portion size, particularly the amount of chicken they gave, was super generous. As for the jalapeño cheese roti, it reminded me of the quesadillas I'd get from my night owl dining hall in college. The cheese didn't really have any flavor and the roti tasted like a whole wheat wrap you'd buy from a grocery store. Overall, it's not the worst spot you could go if you're super hungry and craving Indian food, but it didn't live up to the hype for me at all.
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Best flavor in town. The butter chicken has amazing caramelized onions and a chicken masala is very tasty the spice level is customizable and they are quick and efficient! Awesome authentic Indian food!

Yelp
Loved food. Would recommend who likes Indian food. There dosa and chicken tikka masala combo and lamb/goat curry is very yummy

Yelp
During social distancing, the one thing you can't have is a buffet, especially those Indian lunch buffets where you can get your fill of curries, naan and chutneys. Well, Bombay Dhaba is no buffet, but the quantity of food they give you for their lunch special may as well be a lunch buffet - I was stuffed after eating half of my order. That has to be one of the best hidden gems in the city for lunch. The lunch special is all of the following: a cup of veggie korma, a cup of chicken masala, a cup of chicken curry, a cup of what I assume is raita, some basmati rice, a mango custard and two whole wheat roti. Sounds like what I eat at a lunch buffet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ None of it is particularly spicy, though I'm sure you could ask them to amp it up if you're daring. My personal favorite is the chicken masala - tender chunks of chicken in a bright tomato based sauce without too much acidity, followed by the roti. The whole wheat roti definitely has a denser texture than I'm used to, but it's got great char and blister marks from the griddle and it stands up to the curries well for dipping. The raita is also a good drizzle over the top of everything. The chicken curry and the veggie korma are fun to eat to switch things up between bites, which means your palate never gets bored though they are less memorable. I was not a fan of the mango custard (aftertaste) but even if you subtract that from the lunch special order, I can't ding them for it since everything else more than compensates. Can't believe it took till now to finally go to Bombay Dhaba but I'm sure I'll be many more times to come!

Yelp
Food is always amazing, I love the flavor and portion sizes. Truly the best Indian that I have found in S. Austin. Recommend the garlic roti. There are picnic tables outside for you to sit, but as it's super hot here in the summer I recommend calling ahead and picking up. Great value, amazing taste.

Yelp
The guy who runs this place is super nice. I love when food truck owners are really nice. It 100% enhances the experience of eating at a food truck. He'll bring the food to you, wherever you're at in the lot, which is a really nice service touch. And the food. Y'all. I've had nothing bad here. Samosas, biryani, chicken Tikka masala, naan. So so good. I've eaten here for dinner and I've eaten here for lunch and I've taken food to go. Always given generous portions. The price is SO worth bc there's always enough for at least 1.5 or 2 meals. I looooove the spice levels too. Perfect every time.
google avatar

Jodi H.

Yelp
5 stars for service but an average of 3 for the food quality. We started off with samosas, and the kind man gave us four to share among the two of us. The order usually comes with 3. The samosas were a little too dry for my taste, and the samosa skin was on the thicker side. It tastes better when it's hotter, that's for sure. We both got curries, and I really enjoyed my chickpea curry. It was flavorful and tasty. The thing that I would have liked is less-dry rice. However, they do flavor everything well. And the spice levels are perfect. I love me some spice, so it was the perfect amount for me. I bet you can also specify the spice levels that you want upon ordering. The one thing though is that the Indian food I had here didn't compare to the Indian food I've had back home. The quantity was different, quality of the curries and rice were subpar and the general experience wasn't the best I've had. Pricing is affordable (around or less than $12 per person) and the people there are friendly. The man working the food truck was so sweet and very interested in making his customers happy. He also gave us the option for extra rice to take home if we wanted. The parking is easily shared with the spots for the other food trucks, so you won't have to pay for anything extra. They have an outdoors area for sitting/eating with a tarp, so if it rains...you're good.

Yelp
Amazing food! The chicken tikka masala was phenomenal! Really friendly people, too. Smiled a lot. We loved our food there.

Yelp
Great authentic Indian food and good portions.....freshly made and not that spicy. Looks like you are at a picnic

Yelp
Address: 1207 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704 (Central Austin) Parking: There are about five parking spots in front of this purple, black, and green trailer but I've never had a hard time getting one. Catering: Bombay Dhaba is the most reasonably priced catering for Indian food in Austin. That being said, they do not cater on Sundays. Suggested order for two: Saag paneer, chicken tikka masala (or paneer if vegetarian), vegetable biryani. Description: This is my go-to Indian restaurant in Austin. Probably because it is centrally located, affordable, and so delicious. Although the menu is shorter in length than other restaurants, you can definitely find something on the regular or lunch menu. There is covered seating right next to the trailer so you don't have to take your food to-go. The owner is kind so get to be his friend if you can! I wrote a whole lot more in my blog post below! https://thehonestshruth.com/top-five-best-indian-restaurants-in-austin/ Cheers, Shruthi

Yelp
Ive been hearing about this place so finally decided to give it a try. I love Indian food, my mom's a Brit and Indian takeaway is HUGE in London so I have had some of the best there is... This was pretty good. Not the best, but good. I got the goat biryani, chicken korma, and saag paneer. Saag and korma were good but needed salt! The goat biryani was ok, the rice was a bit overcooked but the flavors were there and the goat was super tender. Wasn't a fan of the whole wheat roti but thats just taste preference! Ill be back forsure
google avatar

Anhthu N.

Yelp
Have been looking for some authentic indian food. Wow this place is such a hole in the wall gem! The chicken tikka masala had the perfect consistency and flavors. Samosa was yummy and the spinach lamb curry is sooo good! Highly recommend for really good indian food!
google avatar

Sandeep S.

Yelp
Really disappointing given the highly rated reviews that took me here. Ordered chicken Kati rolls which was a joke. Grocery store naan bread wrapped over chicken pieces and tomato sauce. I am not a cook, but probably I can make better rolls than this. There were other orders on my table which were equally mediocre and below average. Maybe the food truck scene is not for me, but this totally lacked both the charm and the flavor of Indian Dhaba's
google avatar

Zahra A.

Yelp
It was a Christmas miracle! This food truck was one of the only places open at night, and it turned out to be one of the best places to get Indian food in Austin! We ordered masala dosas and masala chicken. Portions were perfect.

Rashmi G.

Yelp
Bombay Dhaba piqued my interest when I did a quick Yelp search in the area that we were staying. There were a few food trucks around there, and while they weren't incredibly busy, they had a bit of traffic passing through. Not sure why but I honestly didn't have high hopes but was optimistic. In browsing some of the photos, I noticed quite a few people mention that they really enjoyed biryani so my husband and I got an order of the chicken biryani to share. After only the first bite, I seriously could not stop eating. The rice was seasoned so well and there were lots of pieces of chicken in the rice. With a little bit of crunchy onion and raita (yogurt side served with the dish), it made for some delicious bites. Unfortunately we didn't have much time to stop by again but if we did, we would've gone back in a heartbeat. I noticed they have several appetizers, curries, and other biryani options. If their other dishes are as good as the biryani then this place is a big hit!

Yelp
It pains me to write a one star review here Because the truck is run by nice people. Servings are very generous - and the curry sauces are lovely. What is the issue? The chicken. They buy bottom of the line cheap chicken from some disreputable supplier. As soon as I left, my mouth had the dirty taste of old dubious chicken. I was nauseous for a little bit - but I recovered quickly. There was never an issue while I was eating because their sauces are so darned good. But the aftertaste of old cheap chicken is hard to hide with sauces. * * * My wife had the vegetables and was happier. (Neither she nor I liked our bread). Other Yelp reviews suggest that the Samosa are pretty good, and so are the Paneer dishes. So it could be that if you avoid chicken you would be okay. I might avoid lamb too - since who knows if that comes from the same source as the chicken. Go vegetarian and you may have a better experience than we did. Servings are generous and flavors are good. * * * If I was management, I would pay more for my meat and just add the difference to the price. They are already quite reasonably priced - so adding a dollar more to the meat dishes to guarantee fundamental quality would seem to be a viable business proposition. It is certainly a necessary one because stinky meat is stinky meat.

Suz L.

Yelp
This is my favorite Indian spot in town. Their portions are large and the family is super nice. We always get their samosas, chicken tiki masala and their saag. Prices have gone up but portion sizes have remained the same.
google avatar

Allison R.

Yelp
I write this while still in a food coma. I got the chicken tikka masala, the cheese roti, and the samosas. The portions were huge! The cheese roti was very greasy and definitely something I would only order if I was incredibly drunk. It tasted great but seemed lethal. The samosas were amazing! They were so light and fluffy and had the perfect crisp level! The order has 3 HUGE samosas. The mint sauce was great, but maybe heavy for a mint sauce. The red sauce was a good break from the green sauce. The chicken in the chicken tikka masala was so flavorful and the curry was so thick and perfectly creamy. The spice level was great too. I will absolutely be ordering again
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
Excellent little food truck! Husband amd I ventured south to eat at another food truck but it was closed so happened upon Bombay Dhaba. What a find! Their lunch specials are really good and unless your absolutely ravenous, the portions are enough for two people. I had the lamb/goat special and hubby the vegetarian biryani. Both were excellent!
google avatar

Karishma A.

Yelp
Excellent!!! I am extremely happy to have found this spot. The flavors are legit and I'm supremely pleased. The samosas are my favorite here. I have never had such authentic samosas in the US. This tastes exactly like what you get in India. Do try them out! I have also tried the chicken biryani, chana masala and the chicken curry here. Everything was delicious. I have zero complaints. I'm a happy customer and recommend this place to anyone reading this. You'll not regret it!

Yelp
Real authentic Indian food with quality and value Owner & crew very friendly. I would say 5* . I will come back

Yelp
Just had this yesterday and Chicken Tikka Masala was on point. We got it to go and didn't look like it was going to be a lot of food but it was enough for two meals.

Yelp
We had high hopes after discovering this place on yelp but we were disappointed with the lack of freshness for the vegetables and the undercooked chapatis.

Yelp
I'm currently in a serious food coma after eating the food I had delivered from Bombay Dhaba. I'm truly impressed by how good everything was and how huge the portions are. I'll easily get three more meals out of this order. There are very few places I know of where you can get such great food, in such great quantities for such a great price. Instant fan.

Yelp
Was holding off writing reviews for yelp due to the situation with covid-19. I did not want businesses to worry about reviews while worrying about operations too, however, I figured good food needed to be shared regardless of the situation. My partner and I have been trying new food trucks and supporting local business, and so we wanted to give bombay dhaba a go. We called ahead to order our food, and the lady on the phone said that they were really busy and to call them when we were on our way to get our food, so we did. When we arrived, our food was ready, all packed up nicely. I paid on site during collection. When we reached home and opened it up, we were extremely surprised by the portions! They were HUGE, despite the deceivingly small packaging. We ordered a lamb biryani, a chicken tikka masala, and a cheese bread. The first two items fed the two of us for two and a half meals!! The food was so good, with all the right flavors and spices, but not overly spicy for me (the biryani may be a little spicy for those not used to eating spice). I'm really glad to have found this place, and my partner and I are looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
Great curry. Very adequately priced. Affordable compared to other curry purveyors. 9.63 for curry lunch special. (8.99+tax). Chicken tikka was some of the best I've ever had. Curried vegetables were spot on. This meal really hit the mark for me today. I was craving curry because of a restaurant near one of my delivery stops. After seeing the great reviews and the amount of food in a lunch special I was determined to get this for lunch. Was not disappointed. Not only will I be returning, but I'll be spreading the word. Service at 1145 was very fast. Food was hot, and perfectly flavored. Chicken was tender, cubes of goodness. Vegetables were broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. I'll be returning to try the samosas with my next lunch. I also can't wait to indulge in the lamb/goat biryani. Give this truck a chance. You'll be impressed also.

Yelp
Amazing food. It seems like such a small place to produce such great flavor. The attention to detail is phenomenal and everything I got had such nuance. The construction of the burger was amazing and even the fries were super crispy and perfectly seasoned. Best fries ever! Chicken tikka was the best thing yet probably the best one I've had. Samosas chaat is excellent and very unique with the pomegranate seed and micro greens!

Yelp
A wonderfully delightful Monday evening visit. Caught them just before closing and OMG- the portions are huge. Such a fabulous little gem and even my kids love the Samosas and tikka masala...

Tried the veg biryani. WOW! (I am picky being an Indian) The flavors are superb! Love the "salan" and raita which accompanied the dish. Portions are massive! I can feed 2-3 people out of one order! Can't wait to try other dishes.

Yelp
A hidden neighborhood gem. Wonderful Indian food. Best for take-away. We're regulars.

Yelp
The food at the Bombay Dhabha is normal North Indian fare - nothing special but not bad either. The food seemed fresh and the tasted OK. However the South Indian food truck next to it is awesome - some of the best Idli/Dosas I have eaten in US. They can improve their sambar but the idlis were soft and the Dosa was crisp and filled with spicy powder and the chutneys were awesome Must try if you are into South Indian food.

Yelp
I got the veggie korma and thought it was mediocre. It lacked flavor and just wasn't anything to write home about.
