San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The people behind El Mil Amores have opened a second location, also in the Mission—but this one serves dinner. The nighttime menu includes entrees like chuletas en adobo, birria, and pollo con mole, plus a CDMX plate featuring their excellent concha french toast. We checked out Regalito El Mil Amores and added it to the Hit List." - julia chen 1, patrick wong

The Hit List: New San Francisco Restaurants To Try Right Now - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"El Mil Amores, masters of the CDMX-style breakfast, has a new dinner-centric outpost. Regalito El Mil Amores brings the same bold flavors as before. Think spiced-up meat and fish covered in mole and adobo sauces of varying heat levels, plus knockout tortillas, botanas, and cocktails, like a strawberries and cream margarita. The portions are huge, too. You could leave happy just splitting an entree, like the Molcajeta CDMX—a behemoth full of sizzling arrachera, chicken, nopales, and burnt cheese. Tables are easy to snag at this walk-in spot, so keep it in mind for an impressive last-minute dinner." - julia chen 1, patrick wong, lani conway

San Francisco Bay Area Restaurant and Bar Closures to Know in April 2025 | Eater SF

"An incoming Mission location being opened by Andrea Becerra (chef and owner of El Mil Amores) as the successor to the long-running rosticeria; the new site is expected to open this spring." - Paolo Bicchieri

The Mission’s Buzziest Mexican Breakfast Joint El Mil Amores Is Opening a Second Location | Eater SF

"Doubling its footprint, a second, larger outpost will open inside the former Regalito Rosticiera space at 3481 18th Street; Regalito Rosticiera is closed after almost 20 years in business (Thomas Peña opened it around 2006, per Mission Local). Owner-chef Andrea Becerra will take the helm at the new outpost while her stepdad, Francisco Castro, runs the kitchen; Becerra says, "I've been walking around Valencia," and adds, "It's going to be amazing. I'm so excited." The new location features a different menu with lunch and dinner from the start—an early emphasis on dinner—and will open with a beer-and-wine license; like the first outpost, the menu will rotate. A stunner on the dinner menu will be a riff on Becerra's super popular CDMX plate that includes chilaquiles, eggs, potatoes, and a concha French toast, and other items teased on the restaurant's Instagram include fresh fish tacos, rich carnitas, and chilindrinas slathered with cream and tomatoes. The original outpost, a Mexico City–style breakfast and lunch destination that debuted in spring 2023, has made staples of tres leches pancakes and the CDMX breakfast plate. The Regalito family transferred the business to Becerra as they were ready to retire — "You look young, you take over," Becerra says they told her — and the expansion coincides with the two-year anniversary of the original location; Becerra says it will be "a special day for the whole family." The new spot is slated to open spring 2025, Tuesday through Sunday, 4 to 10 p.m." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
Just like the sister restaurant, the star is the food. If you like the brunch, you need to come here and have the dinner option too. It’s a true authentic cuisine from central Mexico with a concentration on sauces. Everything is tasty. All the basics are top notch and the specials with the flavorful sauces are awesome. I got the molcajete and can’t wait to try the other entrees on my next visit.

Google
This place is the real deal. Homemade delicious soft tortillas, great homemade sauces to drizzle over everything, we shared and loved every dish. Particular standouts were the special of the day chilaquiles (added chicken and chorizo) and the salmon Zerandeado. Only feedback would be to make the salmon fish a little less sauce on top, the fish itself was great but became a little sloppy with everything on top. I travel to Mexico city often and this is as legit as you'll find in the bay area. Can't wait to see this place blow up, it's great.

Google
Great food. The mole and tortillas are perfection. The staff is so nice as well and very accommodating for littles.

Google
Delicious food, friendly and warm service. We got the crispy quesadillas and enchiladas which were both delicious. Given the quality of these dishes, I'm sure the entire menu is great.

Google
Overall a solid 4/5 stars. 5/5 on food. I love they are adding to the conversation of Mexican food in the Mission, definitely not just another Mexican spot and the quality and taste is excellent! Saw reports on Eater and Infatuation about the quality of the food and how they are newly opened went last night to try it out! The food was realllly good and the service was super friendly. The atmosphere is cute and they played good music (Cumbia followed by Reggaeton/Bad Bunny near close). Which was great. Food came out relatively fast and hot. Generous portions and super tasty! Got the Mole de Pollo and Carne Asada. The Carne took first place for us but the Mole on the chicken itself was drool worthy and the they actually served a small side of the Mole with the Carne Asada, so might just get that next time. The tortillas were house made and super fresh/hot. I think the plastic table covers and brighter lighting prevent it from feeling like a "fancier" or more intimate feeling spot. You could still take a date here- but it feels more casual. However, I understand these are more personal preferences. And are things they could continue to play with and adjust. In the meantime, the flavor in the food well makes up for it! I will be back! There are some cozy "nook" spot tables you can grab if you want it feel cozy and I noticed a patio out back but was kind of cold so decided to stay in. Could get another star from me if they work on the lighting and general ambiance a bit more; but that's more personal preference.

Google
We love this neighborhood and were more then happy to drive here for dinner. We hade carne asada and roasted chicken in molle sauce. Dinner came with fresh corn tortillas. It was so good. It wasn't too busy. The staff was excellent. Highly recommend!

Google
Long hair in my food🚨 I get it, it happens I’ve worked in restaurants. Our waiter made a face at us, didn’t offer any solution. Not another meal, or refund, not a single word just took it back and left us wondering. Never checked up on us, not once, as we needed more water/coffee/napkins/the bill/the replacement meal😂. We decided to finally reach out to another waiter to just close out our tab as we couldn’t handle the awkwardness any longer. They were moderately busy, not busy enough to justify the terrible service. Food was okay, having worked in restaurants I could tell chicken wasn’t fresh, but if you’re expecting the same food/service as the original El Mil Amores On 21st and Alabama, think again. Incredibly disappointing first experience at this location

Google
Amazing authentic Mexican food, absolutely top notch guacamole, the salsa was excellent (just the right amount of kick), and I had the enmolades with mole sauce which was delicious! Staff were very friendly and service was pretty fast. Very nondescript building a little hard to identify from the outside and inside wasn't anything too special, but food and service absolutely top notch! Would come back here again next time I'm in town and would recommend to anyone looking for good authentic Mexican food!

Yelp
Delicious everything. I had the chicken mole and it was to die for. Not to thick not too chocolately just perfect flavor. The queso fundido and homemade corn tortillas were amazing. The calabazas soooo good! Everything 10/10! Being a Latina, I love how they serve you in little plates and dishes like if you are at your grandmas house. The plastic table coverings felt like I was literally eating at my abuelas kitchen table. You put the plastic on to protect the pretty tablecloths she would tell me. Service 5 stars, atmosphere 5 stars and food 5 stars. Sooo good!

Yelp
I have been really wanting to try this place because I love the breakfast spot they own, which is one of my favorite brunches in the city. My expectations were sky high. I am giving it 4 stars, although in truth my experience felt more like a 3. I believe they can do better and will definitely give it another try. Let's chalk this one up to an off night. First, a small quibble. I did not care for the ultra heavy plastic table covers. If the goal is easy cleaning, plexiglass squares or thinner plastic would feel less like tarps. We went on Labor Day afternoon hoping for the dinner menu, which may have been the root of the service issues. The restaurant was nearly empty, and we had come specifically to try the carnitas. At first they told us they were out. Then after we placed our order they "found" some and brought them over. I do not know about "found," but it seemed like scraps because there was quite a lot of unchewable gristle. I realize it is not fair to judge based on something we were not even charged for, but it was disappointing to hear they were out, then receive a portion that felt like leftovers. On the bright side, the cochinita pibil was excellent and the tortillas were fantastic. Those dishes alone showed me how good this place can be. The service overall felt strange and slow, though again, it might have been the odd timing of our visit at 4:30 pm on a holiday. Some places perform their best when they are busy and lose momentum when it is quiet, and that seemed to be the case here. In the end, I still believe this restaurant can be great. I just want to come back and experience it at its best.

Yelp
Had dinner tonight at Regalito El Mil Amores with my husband and a friend. This place was spectacular. Okay - the food - was bomb, fire, 10/10 whatever the kids say these days. We split a Molcajete CDMX, chips and guac, carnitas, and steak salad. Everything was packed with flavor and presented beautifully. Make sure to ask for the habanero salsa on the side if you like some heat like we do. I also got a delicious passion fruit margarita. The server at our table tonight was excellent as were all the busboy and kitchen staff. Everyone was friendly, fun, efficient. Come here for the immaculate food and vibes that match the flavor. Just save me a seat at your table when this place gets busy.

Yelp
Great, attentive service and very fresh ingredients. Highly recommend this spot. In a beautiful Friday afternoon we were a little disappointed to find that the patio was covered so we ate indoors. We enjoyed the green enchiladas, the fish tacos and the guacamole and chips.

Yelp
4.5 stars - Friendly service, delicious and homey Mexican comfort food, a few tables outside El Mil Amores (on 21st street) has an hermanita! Regalito El Mil Amores just opened and already seems like a great addition to the mission. SERVICE The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 1:30pm on a Friday. We were warmly greeted by the waitress. There were 2 small tables out front, but they were in the shade. We got cold after being seated and the staff was super accommodating and quickly reseated us inside. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and honestly made us feel like we were just visiting a friend. The food service was a bit slow, and my drink was the last to come out. Regardless, she checked in on us often, so we didn't mind the slower food service too much. FOOD Most main dishes were around the $20 price point. * Molcajate CDMX ($30) - Came bubbling hot and sooo good! It had several types of meats, grilled veggies and a citrusy verde sauce. Served with tortillas, and enough for 2 to share. We finished most of it, but I still asked for a container to take home the sauce and some leftover veggies for later. * Guacamole ($12) - Fresh, tasty, came with some blue corn tostadas * Hot sauce - Our waitress brought out a house made habanero hot sauce. It was spicy but also flavorful - a bit sweet and smoky. * Horchata ($6?) - Thicker consistency than I'm used to but good * Fresca con crema margarita ($12) - What's not to love here - strawberries and cream + margarita! Kind of dangerous since could barely taste the alcohol haha, and I just wish the serving was bigger! Everything was comforting and delicious, and it all came out to about $75 including tip. PARKING There's metered street parking, but parking is generally difficult in the area so plan accordingly. BONUS There is a small semi-private room/patio in the back of the restaurant, which would be great for larger groups!

Yelp
I was super excited to try this new spot after hearing friends rave about the original El Mil Amores location. I grabbed brunch here with a group of friends during opening weekend, and both the food and service were exceptional. Unlike the original location, this location felt more spacious and had some large communal tables in the back to accommodate larger parties. This location also serves dinner, which I'm looking forward to trying another time. For drinks, both the cafe de olla and soursop juice were delicious. I highly recommend trying the soursop drink if you've never had it before. For food, I ordered the chilaquiles mole con arrachera. The arrachera was super tender, and the mole was incredibly flavorful. Service was very attentive and friendly. The staff told us that because this place just recently opened, the menu is not overly extensive yet, but it may expand in the future. I can't wait to come back at a future time to try more items on the menu!

Yelp
Tacos, burritos, or guisado? Guisado (stew) all day, everyday! A labor of love, the slow cooking of proteins with a myriad of spices hits better esp when you're looking for a hug on a plate, something soulful. Wildly popular brunch spot: El Mil Amores won me over with their costillas en chile quemado, pork ribs stewed in adobada sauce so I've been looking forward to the opening of their sister resto. Soft opening today in the former Regalito Rosticiera is Regalito El Mil Amores. Open for takeout and dine-in. Currently, walk in only with rezzies to come. Arrived at opening time and was promptly seated in the patio. Hours of operation: 4 pm - 9 pm (soft opening), 11 am - 9 pm (grand opening starting 5/30). M E N U Mexico City Cuisine with some carryovers items from their brunch resto: El Mil Amores (e.g. enmoladas, costillas en chile quemado, etc). Beer & wine available. F O O D * Cochinita Pibil: Pork shoulder slow roasted in citrus and achiote, served w/ pickled onions, rice, beans, tortillas ($19): https://tinyurl.com/3p88fmw4 Meltingly tender and juicy Yucatán stewed pork with a delicious citrusy, smoky flavor. Served with velvety smooth frijoles, seasoned rice, handmade tortillas, and punchy pickled onions to cut through the meaty richness. * Molcajeta CDMX: Arrachera, chicken, chorizo, pork chop, nopales, onion, and cheese in burnt adobo sauce ($30): https://tinyurl.com/2kdtn645 Sizzling volcanic stone bowl generously filled with tender steak, chicken (white meat), rich chorizo, savory pork chops, ripen avocado, and tart prickly pear cactus (nopales). Sitting in a pool of smoky adobo sauce and stretchy grilled queso panela (cheese). Perfect for two carnivores. S E R V I C E Super warm and friendly. It's day one and they're figuring things out so our order took over an hour but they were very apologetic. This was a bit expected as food takes awhile at their brunch resto. Recommend looking at the online menu before your visit and placing your order as soon as you're seated. A M B I A N C E Sparse with 8-10 tables, chef's counter seating, and a back patio with a large communal table. P A R K I N G Difficult street parking (demand-responsive meter pricing; $7-$10/hour). Nearest garage is 3 blocks away on 21st and Bartlett. Overall, while there's no shortage of great Mexican restos in The Mission, Regalito El Mil Amores stands out for their vibrant and flavorful homestyle Mexico City dishes.

Yelp
omg, don't even know where to start. This place was so delicious! the service was amazing, the location was beautiful, it felt like i was in my grandmas kitchen. the plating was so adorable. The food was 10/10. we got the mole chilaquiles with arrachera added to it, & the carne asada plate. the beans were probably one of the best beans i've ever had. we asked the server for a little help on making the final decision & she did not disappoint. she was such a sweet older lady, felt like it was one of our tias or abuelitas serving us. we will definitely be coming back if we're ever in the SF area

Yelp
I wanted to gate-keep this place, but they deserve all the love!! If you've been to their breakfast location, this is a must visit. They focus mainly on dinner and on guisados (stews). For LA transplants, think Guisados Tacos, but even more authentic and delicious! My hubs & I have been WAITING for something like this in SF :) We got the Michelada & Tamarind Agua Fresca for drinks -- a delight in itself. For main courses, we got the Conchinta Pibil and Manitas de Puerco En Salsa Verde! We also got to try a sample of their mole. We're usually not a fan of mole, but theirs is smooth, balanced, and slightly sweet. I LOVE anything drenched in their salsa verde sauce, it's truly addicting. They mentioned everything was made fresh to order, so expect a bit of a wait. Handmade tortillas? Sign me up anytime! Some areas of improvement -- the tables are really small for the food / amount of sauces and the fresh taco basket that comes out (or maybe we just ordered too much), and the experience of eating could be better. These are stews, so please provide spoons as part of the dinnerware and napkins. We felt bad to constantly bug our server. There's a large community table in the back that could be great for large groups. (Or us next time, so we have more space haha) There's also what seems like a back patio, but I'm not sure it can open up. It would be amazing if they could, so our pup can join -- there are 2 outside tables, but the sidewalk is uneven, so it would not serve as a great space to eat. As we finished the meal, my husband said it was his "new favorite Mexican restaurant in the Mission". We can't wait to come back!!

Yelp
Went with a friend who had been ranting about how good the food is here and it did not disappoint. I ordered Green Chili Chicken Enchiladas and they were STUFFED with chicken! Green Chile poured lightly over, so delicious. I had a thirst quenching Sangria which I downed immediately (it was hot outside). My only disappointment was the waitor..slow (only one other table w/customers) and had to ask twice for water. But, I will say food is worth going back and I certainly will.

Yelp
This food was amazing! I would so recommend it if you're not sure. It's on 18th and the staff is so nice.

MJ C.

Yelp
Food was delicious, I had the mole and friends had the pozole and we were all in agreement it was super tasty. Service was really attentive, waters were always filled and waiter checked on us often. Cozy ambiance with music and nice decor.

Lisa L.

Yelp
We had a great visit to Regalito El Mil Amores! The food was amazing! Drinks were great too! We had the chicken mole, carne asada, and carnitas. As a starter we had chips and salsa. The portions were generous and very tasty. The mole was rich and dark and the chicken very tender. The guacamole served with the carne asada and carnitas was outstanding and I would recommend getting this as a starter because it was so good. The tortillas were handmade and delicious. We also had drinks and the aqua Fresca. margarita and sangria were delicious and had such a great fresh fruit taste. The service was good, but could be a bit better as they forgot our son's drink and our order of chips and we had to flag someone down to get it. The restaurant is small and cute, it can be a bit loud near the open kitchen. This is this place for a casual dinner with friends. Overall though there's a good vibe, community feel and very authentic food that's freshly made and a good value given the quality and portions. Highly recommend !!

Yelp
I have been to their other location but this location is a few seconds from my home and I wanted to come by and support after I did some grocery shopping. I came in to order enchiladas Rojas to go and immediately everyone from the server to the cooks were so kind while I waited for my food and I didn't have to wait long. I have had these enchiladas at their other location and was so excited to try it again as it reminded me of my mother's enchiladas that's what I loved so much as it reminded me of a home cooked meal. Also their aguas frescas are amazing! They taste authentic not artificial they reminded me of my moms. I will come back with my husband and friends soon. Thank you so much for the great food and friendly hospitality.

Yelp
Delicious food, our waiter was great! Will definitely come back when visiting the Mission District.

Yelp
I was really excited to try this new iteration of Regalito by the folks who started El Mil Amores. These folks are still building out their menu, but they did not disappoint! They are focusing on more regional DF/CDMX cuisine with an emphasis on guisados, or stews. The servers were friendly and attentive and came over several times to check in on how our drinks and food were. For drinks we ordered the tepache with piquete and mango margarita. The tepache was delightful. Effervescent and juicy, the pineapple's sweetness was tempered by the tartness from the fermentation. The mango margarita was delicious although a bit sweet (I have a sweet tooth, so no complaints from me!). For entrees we ordered the enchiladas rojas, carnitas, cochinita pibil and costillas en chile quemado. Each dish came with a side of Mexican rice, black beans and corn tortillas. The cochinita pibil was my personal favorite. The pork was roasted to fork-tender perfection in achiote and citrus and served with some pickled red onions. The acidity of the citrus and red onions played well against the unctuousness of the slow-roasted pork. The costillas en chile quemado were delicious. Similarly the complexity of the burnt chiles and the acidity from the tomatillos were a nice way to complement the rich pork ribs. The dish was filled out with some delicious potatoes that had soaked up the flavor of the chile. The carnitas were very tender and melted in my mouth and were similarly complemented by a tart salsa verde. Lastly, the enchiladas Rojas were a crowd pleaser. They were served bathed in a generous helping of a smoky and slightly acidic salsa roja that was tempered by crema and queso fresco. Overall, I really enjoyed dining at this restaurant and look forward to coming back and seeing how they evolve!

Lisa P.

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING. I got the Molcajeta CDMX, the meats were so flavorful and the sauce in this dish was beyond expectations. The service was attentive. We had a great time here and I will definitely be going back. This place is an extension of the restaurant on 21st but this location serves both brunch and dinner. Wonderful.

Billye W.

Yelp
Agua Fresca, Mole, and Carne Asada were delicious!! Service was excellent and friendly. The ambiance was fun and got my husband and I ready for a night out in the city. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I love El Mil Amores and so glad they opened up a cute new location! As expected the food is amazing. Highly recommend the chilaquiles. The interior is pleasant, not super large, with a beautiful little patio space.
