Impromptu by Paul Lee

"Ask to sit at the counter so you can watch the team in front of your eyes prepare every course in the expansive open kitchen. It serves a creative 10+ course tasting menu that changes from time to time, and uses influences from around the world. One standout is white chocolate bread pudding with nitro foie gras – an intriguing contrast of textures and an unusual combination that works; round it out with their rich and fragrant milk tea blend." - Michelin Inspector

"Opened in 1990 (and known from 1993 to 2011 as the Grand Formosa Regent Taipei), the Regent Taipei is no stranger to the rich and famous, having hosted a variety of entertainment luminaries including the Spice Girls, Mariah Carey, Keanu Reeves, and the late Michael Jackson. More recently, the hotel itself played a supporting role in Luc Besson’s Lucy, in which the film’s titular character (played by Scarlett Johansson) begins her journey of mind-expansive mayhem in a Regent room. The hotel’s popularity with the jet set is based on more than just its central location (though that certainly doesn’t hurt). The Regent exudes an air designed to appeal broadly to those accustomed to the finer things . Rooms are well-appointed, though with a subdued, somewhat generic elegance. This aura extends to most of the common areas, such as the lobby and most of the restaurants, which, though beautiful, are not overly possessing of warmth.Luxurious as it is, the Regent lacks a certain intimacy, and may strike some visitors as feeling “expensive yet formulaic.”"

We recently stayed at the Regent Hotel, and I couldn't be happier with my experience! The hospitality was exceptional. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable. A special thanks to Ray Liu for recommending and booking a visit to a local cat cafe for my niece. She absolutely loved it! The attention to detail and warm service made our trip so enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a wonderful stay. Thank you, Ray of Regent, for your outstanding service!

Stayed here out of convenience because our event took place in one of their function rooms. The lobby is grand, the room is spacious and luxurious although the decor is a little dated. The fact that they still use physical keys says alot, which also means the lifts are not restricted to in-house guests only. Even the aircon in the room is still turn-type thermostat. The room is abit like a junior suite where there's an additional door separating the entrance and bathroom from the bedroom. I do wish the lights are brighter, too dim for my liking. The side table lamps and floor lamp are also manual control, so you have to turn them on/off one by one. The bed is firm but the pillows are too soft and sinks without support. Clean and spacious bathroom, do note however they don't provide single-use disposables so bring your own toothbrush. The water pressure in the standing shower is good, but the hot water for the bathtub is not hot enough. Location wise isn't too convenient. The MRT is about 7 mins walk away, considering you also have to go downslope from the hotel lobby which is situated above a park at the top of the slope. There also isn't much else around in terms of local food and stuff, except for 7-11. It's connected to Regent Galleria in the basement where there are more luxury boutiques from Sisley to Chanel, Hermes, Issey Miyake etc. 5* service, every staff I've met throughout my stay has been most friendly, helpful, attentive, polite and full of smiles.

Great experience at the Regent. Great stay! Staff were all hospitable—special thanks to Lucas Lu at check-in for being so professional and welcoming. The location is perfect with lots of food nearby. Loved the tasty breakfast buffet. Room was clean, spacious, and the bed was nice and firm. Would definitely stay again!

It is with utmost sincerity that I write to commend Ms. Moana of your Executive Lounge for her exemplary service, which profoundly enhanced my recent stay at your distinguished establishment. From the moment I entered the lounge, Moana embodied the pinnacle of professionalism and hospitality. Her ability to anticipate needs with intuitive precision— whether curating bespoke beverage recommendations, seamlessly coordinating amenities, or offering insightful local guidance-demonstrated a mastery of her craft. What truly distinguishes Moana is her genuine warmth and unwavering attention to detail; she approaches every interaction with grace, ensuring guests feel both valued and personally attended to. Her dedication extends beyond mere efficiency. During a brief conversation, Moana recalled subtle preferences I had mentioned days prior, a testament to her remarkable memory and commitment to personalized service. Such meticulous care transforms a luxurious experience into an unforgettable one. Please recognize Moana as an invaluable asset to your team. Her work ethic and passion reflect the highest standards of Regent Taipei's esteemed reputation. The Executive Lounge, under her thoughtful stewardship, becomes not just a facility, but a sanctuary of sophistication. My deepest gratitude to Moana for elevating my stay to extraordinary heights. I eagerly anticipate returning, confident that her exceptional service will remain a hallmark of your hotel's excellence.

Fairly expensive, plenty of other equivalent hotels around for less if you're willing to shop around. That said I didn't have any problems, the spa downstairs was decent. I didn't bother with the buffet or restaurant because they were several orders of magnitude more expensive than the food outside but it looked good. A good hotel to stay at if your business is paying for everything.

Google
Location was great! Within walking distance to metro and a short ride to the main station. Good food options nearby as well.Very clean facility. Service was great. Everyone spoke good English so I didn't have any problems communicating. The hotel is an older hotel so it had some older fixtures, like a physical key vs keycard and analog temperature controls for the AC. The gym however was very nice. Large and had many great machines.

Google
An enjoyable upscale hotel, centrally located in Taiwan. Service was great. Food, both at the breakfast buffet and bar were delicious. Love the open, several floor high area with seats for dining and relaxing. The rooms were a nice size with a but of a view. Only downside (personal preference) is the beds were very firm. A little too hard for my liking, but otherwise a fantastic stay.

Had a fantastic stay at Regent Taipei! The staff were outstanding throughout the hotel — always friendly, professional, and attentive. The breakfast experience was excellent, with a great variety and incredibly attentive service that made mornings a real pleasure. The pool area was also a highlight — clean, relaxing, and staffed by people who clearly care about guest comfort. Overall, a wonderful experience thanks to the warm attitude and excellent service across every part of the hotel. Highly recommended!

Yelp
We stayed 1 night on the 14th floor. I did not expect this hotel to look and feel so luxurious. When I first walked into the lobby and saw Chanel and LV, I was like, "Damn, this is fancy." On a Thursday night around 8pm they had a live performer singing. Our room was huge. Note that if you don't draw the curtains in you can see your neighbors and they can see you if you are up close to the window. In room slippers were cheap quality and the towels are medium soft. The rain shower pressure was excellent. The pillows and comforter were nice but the bed was firm. The safe box is old school. They use gold colored door keys instead of a room card. We could hear our neighbors talking as well as when they shower or use the plumbing. The roof top pool was nice though we didn't have time to swim. It opens from 6:30am to 10:00pm and is heated at 28 degrees Celsius. They have lounge chairs as well as cabanas and a projection screen by the pool. We did go up for a bit at night but kept getting bitten by bugs so we quickly left. Not sure if they were mosquitos because by the next day the small bites were not itchy. There is also a lounge but you need certain status to get access. Our stay included a free breakfast buffet. Although it looked very impressive, the food was just average. Lots of food options from western, Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese. Anything with fresh fruit or puff pastries were good. In the evenings when you take the elevator you can hear crickets and in the morning, birds chirping. I thought that was neat. Hotel staff were all very nice and helpful. They have one staff standing just to warn you to step up or step down to and from the lobby or to and from the dining area. What a fun job. At around $200-$250/night I think it's worth it. It's less than a 10 minute Uber ride to Ningxia night market.

Yelp
We didn't stay here but went to the lunch buffet. We were lucky enough to be a winner of Taiwan the Lucky Land, a lucky draw which is open to all foreign tourists. You sign up within the week before your trip and make your lucky draw at the airport. We received NT$5000 for hotel voucher only to find that our hotel doesn't accept it. (We later found out that the easy-card is a better option as it's not just for travel fare but usable in many retail outlets as well, like Hong Kong's Octopus.) Anyway, long story short, we decided to use the voucher at Regent's buffet. The buffet has a good spread, though nothing compared to say, casino buffets in Las Vegas or Macau. It is autumn season so lots of crabs on the menu, but as we only got 2 hours to eat I didn't get to try as many as I'd like, as they were time consuming to eat. There's nothing crazy high end, though the quality of food is there. Craving station, sushi area, dim sum, pasta, salad bar, a variety of international cuisine, and very nice selection of dessert and fruit. For drinks you have tea, juices, coffee and even beer on draft included. I just wish they have longer hours for the buffet, so we didn't feel as rush. As they run a breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner buffet, they try to rotate customers in and out fast.

Yelp
Booked through an AMEX promotion. Glad I stayed here on first night after overseas redeye. Was upgraded to the 19th floor. Room was nicely appointed. Bed pillows were comfortable. Enjoyed a complimentary 1 hr jet lag massage. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, varied selection at numerous stations. The sauna was clean and pleasant. The hotel's public areas feature subdued lighting creating a serene resort type environment. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.

Yelp
I stayed here on points since I know in the Taiwanese community Regent is an opulent symbol.. that's why we have Regent bakery in Seattle. The hotel itself is beautiful inside, but the rooms are a bit outdated, especially since at check in, they use gold door keys and not cards. The doors also don't self close. Take note: afternoon tea doesn't mean tea with sandwiches and scones... it means a full blown buffet with seafood and meat galore. Basically their afternoon tea is a buffet happy hour that lasts from 2-430. I was kicking myself after eating smoked goose for lunch that the afternoon tea was a buffet happy hour and I didn't have much room in my stomach to maximize eating all the seafood they offered. Thanks to IHG silver elite status, I got free breakfast for 2 so I invited a friend over for breakfast. They had a acai bowl, a harvest bowl with quinoa and veggies and the juices were all good. I didn't bother with the heavy stuff since I had been eating too heavy with pork and beef the other days in Taiwan.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel with sophisticated and elegant rooms. Bed can be a bit hard for westerners but still pretty comfortable. The standout feature of this hotel is their buffets! I had their breakfast buffet and it was incredible! There were so many stations of food, ranging from European breakfast items, American items, Japanese, Chinese, and a Korean. This was the best part of my stay! Staff is super helpful and hospitable. Loved my entire stay! Try their award-winning beef noodle soup if you get a chance!

Yelp
Great classic hotel to stay at. Located conveniently two blocks away from the Zhongsan shopping district. they also have a great shopping center in the bottom two floors of the hotel, filled with great luxury brands.

Yelp
Truely the VIP service!!! I love how all the stuffs are very professional and polite. The minute you step into this hotel then you know you are going to be well taking care of. There are plenty of great restaurants to select from inside the hotel B1,B2,and B3. This hotel is also located at busy restaurant street and near night market. Just a few steps then you can emerge yourself into the Taiwanese culture along with great hospitality. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone who like to visit Taipei someday.

Yelp
Rooms are nice, modern, and big. Check in and check out is busy with lines. Keys are old school big metal keys.

Yelp
I'm sure the elite status helps but I was very impressed with the staff here. I loved the breakfast selection and the whole presentation of the Taiwanese culture (fruits to various foods) taxi and front desk staff was also great.

Yelp
Had dinner at one of Silks House's dining rooms located at the third floor of this beautiful Regent Taipei hotel. We had one of their course menus which was very reasonably priced for the quality and the quantity they served. Some of the highlights of this course were shark fin soup which they would warm up one by one right before serving in the room. I also enjoyed their Peking duck, very succulent juicy and tender. The pancakes which they served the duck with were delicious, too. They weren't just regular pancakes, but made with whole grain which gave unique texture. They were tasty as well as healthy, so what more can you ask for ; ) Service was friendly and on point. Although, I felt little uneasy since they stood right behind us quietly and patiently as we went on enjoying the dinner.

Yelp
I stopped by the Regent to try their lunch seafood buffet. Like with all buffets in Taiwan -you should arrive early. The buffet starts seating at 11:30am. The food goes fast as the room is always packed. Make reservations well in advance to get in. The lobby is very open and great for large groups. For about $1200NT is lunch price. The food is really great! Wonderful variety of seafood. There were 3 different types of shrimp cocktail. There were a large variety of western, japanese, eastern cuisine. The dessert area also was really delicious. I liked the chocolate fondu. Alcohol is not included. Drinks they had various drinks available like espresso, calpis, coke, sprite, juices.

Yelp
I don't know why I have waited so long to write a review. It's possible that once I had traveled to multiple other high-quality hotels after my stay at the Regent Taipei, it became very apparent just how good in comparison this Taiwanese hotel is. The employees could not have been more pleasant or courteous. Always had big smiles on his or her face, ready to help with whatever was needed. As for the house keeping service, it was the most professional and above-and-beyond I have ever seen. If you had left things upon our bed, your bed would be made with the items right where you left them. Since I was staying for about a month, I ended up keeping a few pieces of fruit, knife, tupperware etc. I tried to be as clean as possibly, and one day I came back to find that the fruit had been wrapped in cellophane, my knife and a piece of tupperware had been cleaned and everything organized neatly. I'm usually not one to have people touch and clean my personal items (nobody should have to clean my mess), but this was just so lovely to see how much care was placed with all of it. I love that they had a piece of paper to place on your bed to signify whether or not you wanted your sheets cleaned - sometimes I just need my room tidied or new towels without needing new sheets to be wasteful (or waste someone else's time), so I was appreciative to see that. One of the most important aspects of the hotel: the complimentary breakfast for hotel guests. They have a good range of items and a beautiful back room to enjoy it in. The miso soup has set the bar for me for the best I've had. If you're in a hurry, there is an early morning stand for to-go coffee, tea, fruit, bread. Regent Taipei is nearby several malls/department stores and a few great Japanese restaurants. I ended up staying for a month for my line of work, so I cannot attest as to prices per night, etc as my company had paid.

Yelp
Today I ate with my friends at the Brasserie for their lunch buffet. This is my first time writing a review, but I'll be trying my best. Service: N/A it was a buffet so the only service there is to talk about are the chefs. The chef at the fresh pasta section and the nigiri and hand roll section were quite patient and had a good attitude. Environment: the ambience was ok, but it was quite busy with people walking back and forth to get their food, and the staff coming around the take away the empty plates. The interior was quite nice and the glass displays and dining area was also very beautiful. Hygiene: their washrooms are very clean, the tables, and floors were also shiny and polished. Food: overall, their food was of high quality and not only were they very mouth-watering, their presentation was also impeccable. The desserts were notably delicious, and they had a wide variety of foods. What we ate at the buffet: Person #1: tempura, sashimi, stir fried vegetables, blowtorched salmon nigiri, fish soup Lemon tart, cheese cake +/-: she thought everything was average Her rating: 3 stars Person #2: Romaine's heart Caesar salad, chicken in white wine, tempura, fried fish, Doris, fish soup, hand roll with asparagus, egg, and shrimp. Passion fruit chocolate mousse, lemon tart, cheese cake, opera Green tea, watermelon juice +she liked the fish soup, and Doris -she thought everything else was average -the lemon tart was too sweet Her rating: 3.5 stars Person #3: blowtorched beef, tempura, sashimi, sushi, hand rolls He took one of every chocolate cake Watermelon juice +he liked the sashimi, the chocolate was richly flavored *he didn't have anything he disliked His rating: 4 stars Me: seafood paella, chicken in white wine sauce, vegetables in pesto sauce, dim sum, stir fried vegetables, grilled vegetables, fried rice, blowtorched beef, the daily catch fish with seaweed, the shrimp and egg nigiri, purple rice sushi, white creamy sauce pasta with mussels, and mushrooms A Madeleine cookie, a spiraled sugar cookie Kumquat lemon juice +Their juice is good, and generally their seasonings were great, and their fish are fresh -the pasta is slightly under seasoned, the blowtorched beef is way too chewy and I definitely don't recommend it -I tried some cakes from my friends and most of them are slightly too sweet My rating: 3.5 stars Average: 3.5 stars but I don't consider this to be a 3 star restaurant either so that's why I'll be rating it as 4 stars.

Yelp
Regent Taipei is conveniently located near ZhongShan Subway station and has easy access to the underground shops. I choose Regent over any other hotel in Taipei not only because of the convenient location but because of their top-of-the-line service. I swear some of the staff hide in corners just observing customers because as I waited in line to get my key, a staff member randomly pops up and offers to take our luggage to the room first. The rooms are incredibly spacious and tidy. The bathroom vanity kit will have everything you need - ie. hair bands, comb, toothbrush. The toilet has a seat warmer and washing function, similar to those in Japan. The robes are the most comfortable thing to wear right after a nice shower! Fresh fruits are placed in the room daily and four bottles of complimentary water is replenished daily as well! I love the buffet downstairs and Robin's steakhouse on the second floor offers some of the best cuts I've seen. The filet mignon never disappoints and you have access to their amazing salad and dessert bar just by dining there. There's a movie theater right across the street if you're looking for something to do at night. I'm a huge fan of how convenient Regent is located! With an American Express platinum card, you can get a special rate of 3000NT per night for a maximum of 10 nights. Quite the deal compared to their usual prices!

Yelp
The Brasserie buffet will make you eat until you throw up. Literally. This buffet was as close as it gets for fat kid heaven in Taipei. As I walked in the cool ambiance invited me to feast until my stomach explodes.Tables are arranged neatly with plenty of space between patrons. It fills up quick, so get there early. The majority of patrons were middle aged women, not sure why either. For starters I started at the salad buffet, the smoked salmon and flat bread pizzas were my favorite here. There is a fully stocked sushi bar with great handrolls and plenty of fresh seafood. The fat kid section (fried foods) had a wide assortment of heart clogging fried goodies, fried rice, tempura shrimp, fried chicken.... I had freshly made pasta which was quite excellent as well. To end, I annihilated two massive plates of desserts. Madeleines, cakes, tarts, cookies and pies stacked with ice cream on top. Everything was good until I ate a second plate of desserts. I felt my esophagus swell with that familiar vomit feeling and knew what was coming. I rushed to the men's room and vomited into a nice luxurious clean toilet. Having a bathroom so elegant made my purge even more enjoyable. I highly recommend eating here.

Yelp
The food here were wonderful!! I had buffet two times, one for lunch another for dinner. Though the buffet is nothing difference between lunch and dinner. The shrimp was fresh, and when one item was out, it will provide another type of shrimp immediately. Salad and all roast beef are really good! There are a lot of foods with high quality. The most impressing thing is Dessert buffet!! The éclair... ( two favors) is beyond description. I can say....This dessert buffet is the best dessert buffet i have ever seen!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel with nice sized rooms, and the location is easy too. Sadly the service was not up to par. It wasn't that we received bad service, it was that they didn't pay much attention or take initiative to follow up on our service-requesting gazes and hand gestures. But, it was good when we got service. The best aspect was the room size. But the dimly lit hallways make it hard to see the room numbers. The biggest disappointment to me was the gym, which had old machines and limited selection. I love the Regent Beijing, but here in Taipei would have another hotel as my first choice. Perhaps the W Taipei for its atmosphere and location.

Yelp
With their recent appearance in the box office movie 'Lucy', the Regent has become even more popular. I have always been a frequent diner at the Brasserie, which is The hotels signature buffet. I love their make your own pasta station, I love pasta and it's a great place to sample lots of flavors. The salad bar has a variety of choices and not plain. Dinner hours is most expensive but I think it's worth every penny. All you can eat for 1,090NT + 10% service charge. They also have their own high-end mall, goes by the name Regent Galleria in B1. You can find all the high fashion boutiques and all are very expensive, I almost never see anyone shopping in there.

Yelp
A superb customer service with great, big selection of foods. We had buffet lunch there today and it was my first time having buffet there. Great selection of seafood, hot food, salads,........... Highly recommending this hotel and it's restaurants, trust me you won't be disappointed

Yelp
Wow! Just wow! Luxurious property atop a luxury mall, one stop away from the main train station. Friendly and efficient staff. Tremendous buffet breakfast. Easy access to red and green MRT. Walking distance to all the great shopping. We were there for a family trip and it was great but also seemed like a great place to have a meeting. Really, just fantastic from top to bottom.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel in the middle of Zhongshan's luxury shopping district. There are luxury brand boutiques lining the street in both directions, and it right in the thick of the city for either tourists or business travelers. It's not terribly close to the Trade Center though, if that's a concern. The amenities indoors, which are what I've used before, are lovely. There are a few of the obligatory overpriced shops and several truly awesome restaurants. On B1 there is also a lovely little open-plan piano bar. Everything is pricy for sure, but that's part of the 5-star experience.

Yelp
My wife and I finally brought my parents to Taipei from America to shown them this beautiful and delicious city. My mother-in-law insisted we take them to "the best" hotel in all of Taiwan, so we booked two rooms for three nights at the renowned Regent. They arrived at 5am in the morning and we took them to a few sites in Taipei before coming to check in. It was hot and humid, as Taipei can be. We arrived around noon (check in is at 3pm) hot and sweaty. Our rooms were not ready, which was to be expected. They graciously offered to store our luggage while we waited. We had a family emergency in America and needed a quiet place to make a phone call. We asked the front desk and the concierge and they seemed unable to help us. Perhaps it is that their English is not very good, but my wife is fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese and yet they still had difficulty assisting us. Ultimately, they directed us to a 5th floor lounge to make the call. When we arrived they had not been informed we were coming and we again had some difficulty conveying that we were simply in need of a quiet corner from which to use our cell phone. After we sorted that out, we ordered drinks at the bar and they got our order wrong, and again, despite speaking in English and Mandarin they seemed unable or uninterested in helping us. They did not ask for our contact information to inform us of when our room might be ready, so we waited for a few hours not wanting to pester the staff. Luckily, one of our two rooms was available at 2:45, which admittedly is before the check in time. My wife and I let my parents rest in the room and did a little shopping to pass the time until our room was ready. We returned at 3:45 and we're informed our room was still not ready. We noticed at this point that the lobby was full of angry guests waiting for their rooms to become available as well. They offered us two non-alcoholic drink vouchers for the bar, even though we each had a boba tea in our hands. They came to us where we're sitting to bring us our room key, but only gave us one key. They also asked us if we wanted to give back the two vouchers for a non-alcohol beverage. The staff may not have been helpful, but they were without exception gracious. It appears something was going wrong with the hotel because at least 20-30 people were still waiting for their rooms to be available an hour after check-in time. Perhaps, and hopefully, this is not the status quo at the Regent, and my experience is an aberration. But as it is my only experience, what else can I use to make a judgement. I will amend my review after my stay to give this hotel a fair chance. But at this moment, I believe this will be my family's last stay at this hotel. My wife and I stayed at the Sheraton last night and our family have stayed there and at the W multiple times before and have had great experiences. In fact, the last time we stayed at the W, we arrived at 7 in the morning and they whisked us to the spa while they cleaned a room and had us in a room by 9 am. I kept hearing how great the Regent was because so many famous people stay here. Perhaps my family is not famous enough to warrant good service.

Yelp
I had dinner here in a private room on the 3rd floor. The atmosphere and food quality is refined. My menu was a 7 course meal including Peking duck, Rib eye steak, shark fin soup, and abalone. The presentation was sophisticated and service was thoughtful and gracious. I don't believe I had to ask for any services to steps missed. This restaurant is a great choice for entertain to impress.

Yelp
Super visit. Olivia Feng was a fantastic concierge. She helped me plan my business day efficiently and it was a very enjoyable stay. Wonderful hotel. Thank you Regent!
