For a few years of my childhood, my family lived in Italy because my dad got a job there. We lived in a little town built on the side of a hill, and the town ran right up to the water; it was beautiful! And the entire time we lived there, anytime we wanted to get pizza, we got it from a little shop called Roby's Pizza. Roby was a kindly man who loved to chat, tell jokes, and share stories the whole time he was making your pizza. And such pizza! It was the best pizza we had ever had! It was divine, and to this day when my family has good pizza we say "this is really good... but it isn't quite as good as Roby's pizza."
Our last day before we moved away, we got pizza one last time from Roby and asked him where he learned to make pizza, because we just had to know where on earth taught people to make pizza this delicious. We were certain he had learned his pizza secrets in Rome, or some secret pizza school in Naples, or even in some tiny monastery in the Apennines; but we were wrong. Roby had gone to culinary school in New York, New York, United States. The real secret, he told us, is using fresh ingredients. You keep things simple and fresh, and you let your work speak for itself.
After all this time, I am pleased to report that I have finally had pizza that made me say "oh my gosh, this actually might be as good as Roby's!" And that pizza was here at Reginella's: specifically the location on Virginia Beach Blvd.
The staff were very friendly. Our waiter, Tom, was really fun and had really great rapport with both the kids and adults in our party. He was attentive and timely, and made everyone feel comfortable and welcome. The food was delicious, and the prices were good too! One of my kids had a kid's pizza, and it was an actual hand tossed pizza, not some little microwaved nonsense like some places have. The rest of us split a meat lover's pizza and, as I said above, it was hands down the best pizza I've had in more than 20 years!
They're in a good location, have lots of seating, and even a patio. The vibe was really chill, but not ritzy, so it's a good fit for families or a fun date night spot. Will absolutely come back!
