"This reliably good traditional restaurant is housed in the utterly charming setting of a converted tobacco drying barn, all done out in stone and painted wood. Indeed, the whole site – the local stone buildings of an old agricultural property that was originally a priory – is delightful. Head chef Vincent Arnould, aMeilleur Ouvrier de France, is an enlightened custodian of tradition. A native of the Vosges who fell in love with the Périgord, he selects the finest produce for his modern and appealing cuisine with solid classical foundations. At lunchtime, the restaurant proposes a reasonably priced set menu featuring what might be described as Périgord-style tapas. A new take on fine dining." - Michelin Inspector

Le Vieux Logis (Trémolat, Nouvelle Aquitaine) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"First a priory, later a private home, this 16th-century edifice has been in business as a hotel since the middle of the 20th century, and was in some sense a boutique hotel avant la lettre — Le Vieux Logis is a 25-room lodging with as much personality as luxury, still family-owned and operated after all these years. The setting, in the tiny Dordogne village of Trémolat, could hardly be more tranquil; the surroundings reward exploration but the gardens reward idleness. Among the options on site for lunch and dinner are a bistro and a one-MICHELIN-Star gastronomic restaurant." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed 3 nights in the attic room [No 8] pictured on Tripadvisor although two steep and very narrow flights of stairs mean it wouldn't be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. While comfortable and reasonably quiet, it has an odd wedge-shaped bath with hand-held shower which were both tricky to use. Like many French hotels, there's a small wardrobe and no drawer space so we couldn't unpack!||On our first night we had the Menu Estivale [130 euros] with an excellent and generously served wine pairing [25 euros] under the canopy of lime trees. Rather tough smoked duck breast was the only stumble but was swiftly replaced with noisette of veal from the a la carte menu. On the other nights we ate at Chez Julien in Paunat [also highly recommended] and in Les Eyzies. Breakfast [25 euros] included very good fresh fruit juice, bread and croissants and all the dishes were frequently replenished. There are several cafes in the village for those only wanting coffee.||A key element of Le Vieux Logis's appeal is the exceptional service and attention to detail from the warm welcome at reception to restaurant staff ironing the linen before each table is laid. The setting is another key element and - although the beautifully laid out garden isn't enormous - it seemed to absorb guests without feeling over-crowded. The only exception was the arrival of a large [20+] noisy group of US cyclists who sat on the edge of the pool drinking cocktails. As the hotel is now on the Dordogne itinerary of the "Backroads" US cycling group, hopefully these influxes won't become a problem......

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and it was a wonderful experience. Several of the people who look after you also own the hotel and they combine to make it a relaxing and classy experience. We ate in their Bistro as well as their Gourmet Michelin start restaurant which was a dining event as good as it gets. Many thanks to the owners and staff for making our stay such a memorable experience. |My wife and I have traveled the world and stayed in many beautiful places. This area and this hotel are up there with the best; do not miss it

We had four nights here for a wedding nearby. The comfort room was very spacious and beautiful. Wonderful pool, breakfast, and surroundings. But the service was what made this place stand out. Estelle and staff were so kind and gracious, suggesting activities and arranging transportation. Would highly recommend and hope to return!

Wonderful welcome from the staff….a building with a rich and interesting history. Lovely gardens with a pool situated right in the centre of Trémolat village. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the ladies couldn’t do enough along with the man we christened “coffee man!” Merci!

We stayed at Le Vieux Logis for 2 nights as part of a Backroads cycling trip.|It was an excellent base for exploring the Dordogne region and is located in the tiny but charming, sleepy village of Trémolat.|We had a large ground floor suite that looked out over the beautiful grounds. It was spacious and beautifully furnished with tasteful decorative touches. |We particularly loved the separate sunroom where we could sit at the end of the day with a glass of wine and look out over the gardens.|Our one issue was that the bathroom shower did not contain the water properly and did not drain well so that the bathroom floor became very wet. |Breakfast was included and was served in the main restaurant. The breakfast was a very generous buffet with a huge range of choices and it set up up for the day ahead.|The highlight was the Michelin 1 star restaurant. The food was beautiful particularly the stuffed leg of lamb with artichoke tapenade and rocket pesto.

We had the pleasure to dine here on a warm summer evening. The experience as a whole was good but not memorable. The food was cooked to perfection yet failed to fire up the taste buds. Recommended.

My wife said this is one of the loveliest hotels she has stayed in. Who am I to disagree. Comfy beds, hot shower beautiful gardens, lovely pool. Fabulous food and wine. The staff have that sense that nothing is to much trouble as we are all staying in this country house. The hotel is an integral part of the village. Lotus eating in bucolic France!

Beautiful grounds and a wonderful restaurant. We stayed here 2 nights on a cycling trip. Lots of beautiful countryside just outside the front door -- perfect cycling terrain. The room and bathroom were both large, the shower pressure was strong, and the A/C kept us comfortable. The staff were helpful and the breakfast was tasty and filling.

Yelp
My partner and I stayed at Le Vieux Logis in November 2010. The hotel, situated in the small village of Tremolat, is quite picturesque in any season. The gardens are beautifully manicured, and the house itself is full of charm and character. The hotel staff was extremely accommodating, going so far as to move our room when we asked for something on the ground floor, and providing detailed advice and directions to the chateaus and caves nearby. They were eager to provide us with whatever we needed. The rooms themselves were pleasant and clean, but I'm inclined to say they were in need of some attention; the fabrics and wallpaper showed signs of age and wear. My review, however, centers on the two superb meals we had at Le Vieux Logis during our stay, which were both worthy of five stars, an accolade I do not give lightly. Our first meal was in the gourmet restaurant, a very intimate and comfortable space with wood chairs, white linens and warm wood paneling on the walls. We opted for the "Caprice Gourmande" menu, a menu selected by the chef featuring two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts per person (95 Euros each). While six courses would certainly have been plenty, there were several intermezzo options as well, including four unique preparations of foie gras, much to my partner's delight (including a foie gras lollipop). Each course, from the quail eggs to the mielle feuille, was exquisite. By the time the cheese course arrived, with wonderful local cheeses, we were absolutely full, but could not stop eating! After such an indulgent meal, we opted for the bistro across the street, Le Bistrot d'en Face, also owned and operated by the hotel, for dinner the following evening. While the meal at the gourmet restaurant was amazing, the meal at the bistro was perfection. We were the only patrons in the bistro, so the staff spared no expense to accommodate our tastes and wishes. There, I had the finest mushroom omelet I have ever consumed, paired with frites that were divine. My partner and I shared a crème brulee dessert that was magnificent. From start to finish, the meal was an example in excellence and certainly worth five stars.

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel the first night of a bicycle tour and as such had no idea what to expect. What an amazing place. Gorgeous location, top notch service, a wonderful restaurant where we enjoyed a 10 course gourmet meal. This was one of the highlights of our bike package. Would love to return.

Yelp
Probably the most luxe in the whole region, this country gem of a hotel provides comfortable stay, great service and super meals! You must dine here. Come during truffle seasons.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to a nice meal as a 2 nite guest there. I was really shocked by the behavior of the waiter. Short guy with salt/pepper hair. I was well dressed, no pre dinner drinks.Showered. Shaved. The whole 9 yards. Just one respectful American who has been vacationing in France since the 70's. So the waiter in the 1 star Michelin restaurant THROWS a menu at me like he was dealing cards and says in English very rudely, "What do you want!?" Incredible. I should have walked out right then and there but I was so shocked I tried to get through it. A very nice lady waitress saw the scene and took over and the meal went OK but I really didn't enjoy my meal. I wrote Michelin and received an apologetic email from the owner. I honestly have NO IDEA what this guy's problem was but can only suggest he find another line of work. He lived up to all the negative images about the inferiority complex of the French after the national shame of the capitulation of WW2. If this happens to you in any restaurant anywhere, just walk out. Vote with your wallet.

Yelp
Our four-hour, six-course lunch with wine pairings was the highlight of my entire trip to France with a group of 10 people. Every single detail was perfect - the atmosphere, the service, the food, the wine. I am a vegetarian and feared the worst, but the chef seemed to actually enjoy the challenge of making a meat-heavy menu work for a vegetarian. The rest of the gang was just as pleased. We started with champagne and amuse bouche in the beautiful garden, and ended with a cheese course at the end that was a true highlight, with dozens of local and regional cheeses offered by an expert who can describe every one of them. The wine pairings were perfection, and every bite of every course was memorable. I will go back to France just to eat here again.

Yelp
Restaurant Gastronomique's food is AMAZING, a real treat for all the senses, a work of art, visually and flavor-wise. We really wanted to give it the 5 it should deserve, and for most people, it will be a 5. We were seated next to the kitchen door, and in front of their prep area, so we got a show with our meal, one we would rather have avoided. Sometimes, it's best not to peek behind the curtain. For us, it added a level of stress to hear the shouts from the kitchen, and watch the set-up of the servings. A bigger problem for us was that we had emailed them about our allergies, got confirmation when we arrived (very professional), but the maître d' twice saw plates that were served to us, which he ordered to have taken away because they contained our allergens, so while having him to thank (possibly with our lives), communications should have been better for this level. Our experience was inconsistent.
