Let me preface by saying this is my experience based on having a 20 person surprise birthday dinner here on a Thursday. My fiance threw me a surprise birthday, due to raining they had to change our location here.
I came here years ago when it was under the original ownership. Food was amazing. Service was high quality. Everything was great. I was excited to check it out after the remodel.
I'll start by saying the worst dining experience I've had in Houston.
1. My fiance and parents mentioned they did not help them arrange seating or accommodate better seating for the evening. The restaurant was not busy at all.
2. The service was horrific!! The first 20min I was there, there wasn't a single waiter/waitress coming to ask for drinks. We all had to walk to the bar to get drinks. When we did get to order drinks, it was 10-15min after we got to sit down and repetitively asking the what seemed to be manager to send someone to take our order. After we ordered drinks, it took 20-30min before I got up to ask the waitress and bartender where our drinks were. The bartender acknowledged he hasn't even received our drink orders (mind you maybe 7-8 people in the bar area).
3. The food was not good at all. Especially for the price. The best thing we had was the pizza. I ordered a number of items for appetizers for the table and a bunch of sides for entrees. When our entrees came out, midway through I realized none of our sides came out. I asked the manager where our sides were. He went back to the kitchen and said "they are making them, they will be out shortly. We wanted to get your entrees out first." - that was the dumbest response because at this time, everyone was done with their meals and not one side was brought out. I told the manager to cancel them...he looked at me confused. Also, they left our empty appetizer plates and empty drinks on the table and were bringing our entrees while the table was still full of empty drink glasses and plates. I literally got up and started moving plates off to other tables so we can have room because no one on staff even thought about that before adding more plates to our table.
4. I ordered the filet ( as did many others at the table) and let's just say no one finished it. A 6oz filet that was about $50 and it was the worst filet I've ever tasted in my life!! When I took a bite of the filet, it literally had water juices coming out..not steak juices...water. It tasted awful!! I took one bite and didn't even finish. When the waitress came around and asked if I wanted to box it up, I told her it was the worst steak I've ever tasted..she didn't say "I'm sorry." "Let me talk to the chef". "We'll take care of this"...nothing. She just picked the plate up and left.
5. The manager on duty didn't come to check on us at all. He didn't care about the issues with the service or food or any of it. This was a very expensive dinner and a waste of money!
To top it off, my fiance got food poisoning and was sick all night. Another person in our group also got sick that night from the food.
Maybe it's good when you go with 2 or 4 people, but for large groups, remi was awful. Drinks were good. Food, service, management - not worth a second chance. It's a shame. The previous owner would be ashamed of how his hotel is turning out.
