"It looks like Paras Shah is already moving on from Chez Ben in Old City. The chef joined the new restaurant when it opened in March. A tipster alerted Eater to Shah’s departure, and his position went up on multiple job sites on May 1. The executive chef job is posted on Simply Hired and Indeed, as well as the website of PM Hotel Group, a management company that works with the Renaissance Downtown Philadelphia, the hotel where Chez Ben is located." - Rachel Vigoda

Paper thin walls with guests slamming the heavy doors all night and early morning. You can hear pretty much everything someone in the next room is saying to one another. Front desk was very kind and helpful, easy check-in. Cleaning services were great and very kind also. Breakfast service was complete shit. Stood waiting for one of the 3 employees standing there to acknowledge us. The front door employee had to get their attention. The female bartender seemed irritated but walked over to us. She didn’t say one word and just stood there with menus and zero direction. So we followed her and she sat us directly (basically on top) of another couple even though there were PLENTY of other open seats throughout ( it was slow). After seeing the price of very basic foods, we left. Bathrooms have no fans in them. The coffee area is stocked with one coffee pod and the other is decaf (so I guess only one person gets coffee??). The hotel is beautifully decorated but I wouldn’t stay here again.

This is definitely not a 4-star hotel and does not come close to the Renaissance brand. Yes, the location is great, right next to Independence Hall, but they must be living on that reputation only. I will say I had a good check-in experience, the Wifi was good, and the bar was nice. That’s it, which is a very low bar. The room was absolutely terrible. The previous night I stayed in an airport Holiday Inn Express and the room was better than this room. The walls are BLACK(!) and the lighting is so dim that I couldn’t see anything (except for the bare bulb at the desk which I had to cover with a washcloth in order to do my work at the desk). The furniture was so old and banged up, and it looks like they cobbled together various lamps (with weird bright red cords), but it looked awful and didn’t work at all. If I had been at a Red Roof Inn, I would have said it was bad. There was almost no storage (one drawer!!), and the luggage rack was too small for my carryon; I lived out of my suitcase which I laid on the floor. In a 4-star hotel, I expect room service (there was nothing that I could see to offer that), a rug on the floor in the bath, a nice rainshower/wand in the shower, and a robe. None of that here. The bedside lights were horribly positioned to the point of being unusable, and on one side of the bed there were no outlets to charge devices. The window was terribly dirty, and the HVAC was SUPER loud and didn’t seem to adjust the temp at all. The adjoining door to the next room allowed about an inch of light so I had to stuff a towel against the floor. I will never stay here again. I feel abused that I considered this a higher end Marriott. Just terrible. What is the Marriott Renaissance brand thinking? It makes me question future hotels of this brand.

I stayed here for 2 nights. Very nice hotel. The rooms were big and clean, there were free foods and drinks in the lobby, and it was in close proximity to downtown, historical sites, and restaurants. This would definitely be my #1 hotel choice if I came back.

Google
I stayed a week used valet services and over all had a great experience. The hotel is located in a good location you will be able to visit all the main tourist attractions near by. I also had to Uber to further out locations but nothing that was an inconvenience. Also the hotel is located by a lot of good walking distance to food places. This said hotel staff was nice and friendly my room was made up everyday and me and my family had a good time in Philadelphia especially it being our first time here. If you and your family are looking for a nice, decent place to stay centered around the majority of tourist spots to visit I would recommend this place! I will definitely stay again when me and my family return.

We stayed here recently for a wedding and our experience could not have been better. We were traveling in for a wedding that started at 3pm with check-in at 4pm. Alberti at the front desk got us into a room early around 1pm, which allowed both of us to get ready in time and leave our small pet who was staying with us. This was a huge relief. Also, the entire staff and valet service staff were fantastic helping a whole wedding's worth of people check out on Monday. Can't recommend this place enough and the location is ideal for Philly.

Google
Solid hotel, solid stay. Though: painting everything black to hide stains is not preferable to actually painting and cleaning. The rooms are trying *hard* to look modern/industrial, but ultimately seem a little dingy. At 8:00 on the morning of check out, I was awakened to someone knocking loudly on my door. Couldn’t believe it. When I opened the door, there stood a person with a clipboard “just checking.” To the extent this is hotel policy…pro tip: Stop. It will stop me from staying here if I should expect this. The restaurant is GREAT. No need to go anywhere else if you just need a quick, quality meal. Overall, a good experience with some notable improvements needed.

Google
Strange hotel. The best thing about it was the location. The theme is very dark to cover up all the decay around the edges. Horrific decades old chairs in the room. Strange fibers in the bathroom wallpaper looked like it was covered in pet hair. Hasn’t been properly maintained in years.

Google
Overall the hotel is located in the most historic part of Philadelphia. The staff was wonderful specifically Joe who manages the valet staff. | I self parked my vehicle but lost my ticket during a reception near by. Joe heard me and offered to retrieve my truck. He reduced the stress I was experiencing. Thank you Joe!

Yelp
Don't let the entrance fool you. It's a hidden little gem. Clean, with 5 star service. Rooms are fresh, clean and well appointed. Bar has great selection and reasonably priced. Eric at front desk provided 5 star service. Breakfast was just right. Valet isn't cheap, but hey, it's Old Town, and parking is impossible. Lobby bar is just perfect with spots of quiet. Oh yeah, fantastic location as well. Hit up glory bar, just down the road

Yelp
The property itself is fine, no complaints there. Should you ever need assistance tracking down an itemized receipt, they will not help you. I have been calling every day for 2 weeks and spoken to several people, left multiple messages and no one will get back to me. The customer service is not great. Everyone is pleasant over the phone. The front desk people are more than helpful. However, if they are unable to access what you are requesting the managers in the other departments (accounting, Food and Beverage, and the property manager) will not get back to you.

Yelp
I personally wouldn't be back here again but I do think there are some perks that would be kinda worth it but the negatives outweighed the positives for us. Biggest issue was the faulty AC that was a problem in the whole building. Bigger issue is I don't think this was an off day, their ac just sucks. We checked in around 1am the other night and the valet was AMAZING! Literally one of the nicest people ever. I made sure to tip him well when we left 2 hours later since he did such a good job as was so polite. The 1 star is for him alone. The lobby was pretty and well appointed. The person running check in was... bizarre. I think her name was Rachel, she seemed like she had either just woken up, was new to her job or didn't really know how to talk to people. She looked confused at everything I said to her and generally our check in experience was very very awkward. Anyway we got up to our room on the first floor and I was pleasantly surprised that none of the noise from the lobby (there was a wedding) could be heard in our room. So my impression was the rooms were fairly soundproof. The room is also MASSIVE. We had the regular king room and it's a giant space. That said, it's kinda like a warehousey aesthetic ¿ not really sure how to describe it. The bed is on like a wood platform there were two metal chords through the floor and ceiling going through a block of wood that was the nightstand. Not really my thing. Storage seemed kinda low for such a large room too. Bathroom seemed newish. Overall a decent space. As soon as we walked into the room though we immediately noticed it was pretty stuffy. The temp was set to 68 and it read 75. I called the front desk and she was basically like "oh ok why don't you turn on the ac then and wait and see" to which I told her it was on when we came in. She then explained that it was a really hot day and I should give it some time to cool down like ma'am... it's 130am lol. She sent someone from engineering to look at the temp and he noticed it was also warm and then put his hand to the vent and was like "idk it seems like it's blowing?" The air was moving but the cooling was not. Lol. So front desk called back and asked me if that fixed the issue I explained they didn't do anything except hand-check the vent... I asked if there was a different room they could put us in and she goes "well maybe I don't really know but if we do have one it's probably gonna be more money"... 1) I don't care I would've paid it to get some sleep 2) kinda surprising you wouldn't upgrade someone to a different room if the air was broken. The way she handled that was pretty subpar. I didn't care about the cost and told her to go ahead and find something and then decided on my own to call around to see if we could go somewhere else to stay. Their poor service was really just not making me feel comfortable about staying the rest of the multiple days I booked. I spent 2 hours on the phone calling 6+ hotels that were ALL booked. The front desk calls me back to let me know that "all of the other rooms in the hotel are averaging about 75 degrees as well since it's a really hot day so the building temperature is just going to be that warm sorry"‍ Needless to say, we left at 3am to go stay at the W and do not regret doing so. The Ws customer service was fantastic and their room was perfect. I would never be back to the Renaissance.

Yelp
Awesome location and generally nice hotel. You are right there in Independence Park just a block or so from significant historical sites and museums. I know out of their control but be aware you will hear the bell every hour of Independence Hall. Also could use more towel rails.

Nicole J.

Yelp
Rooms are dated and need updating. Elevator was out which wasn't terrible but we were in the back of house using service elevator and it was bad. On the upside the staff is very nice and helpful.

Eric S.

Yelp
The service industry is tough. There are so many things that can go wrong that you have zero control over. And the customer will blame you for it. Rarely if ever if I had the experience of being at a hotel and everything went right and you get top notch service. I mean from the valets, to the restaurant staff and housekeeping. Everyone went above and beyond to smile, greet you and offer assistance. Whoever the GM is for this establishment needs a serious raise because sir/ma'am you have an awesome culture of service there. I wish I gathered names of people to shout out but know that everyone that was on duty from 3-6 November handled business! If I have one critique, please get some air flow in the gym. And maybe some towels. And the bathroom needed some attention down there but that's it. Thanks for a wonderful stay from me and my family! Will definitely try to come back there whenever I'm staying in Philly!

Kimberly D.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel right next to Independence Hall. Rooms are modern and spacious. The lobby has fruit-infused water and afternoon snacks free of charge. Bed was very comfy. Parking is $55 but we booked through Visit Philly and got it for free :) this also allowed us free access to some museums since this was a participating hotel. Would stay again!

Yelp
I just stayed here in Philly and I have pros and cons for sure Pros: Big rooms. Really nice people working at the hotel including the bar and restaurant. The location is amazing. Right where you want to be by independence hall and liberty bell. Cons: no drawers in the room? I mean I can live using just my luggage and pulling clothes out. My friend is a drawer person. It was weird with how large the room is there are no drawers. The hotel was not what I expected. From the pictures it looked huge. Huge lobby and bar etc. but it's really boutique. Not really my style . I like the large hotels and spacious and places to walk. I like little gift shops etc. this hotel, from as many floors there are, was very boutique . On the bottom floor you will find the indoor pool. I was gone each day from morning to afternoon and they only cleaned my room once. It was strange. My friend's room next door was cleaned and they didn't clean mine at all. So I had to call and ask for towels and coffee cups. They have a Keurig machine but only one reg k cup and one decaf. I ended up at cvs buying more coffee for my trip. The check in was fast but I had breakfast included and they didn't give me the vouchers. So I had to go get them the next day. The breakfast was a good breakfast but I'm definitely more of a buffet breakfast person with hotels where you can just serve yourself and go on with the day. A lot of times we waited and had stuff to do. The WiFi was just okay. its $10 per day per room. it was spotty. for $10 a day extra it should be so strong. All in all the hotel was fine and the location was good. but there aren't a lot of restaurants walking distance. I saw the Kimpton hotel and would of chosen that

Yelp
The staff is amazing! Friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The hotel is very clean and nicely decorated. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Stayed here for my wedding weekend/had our hotel block here and the Renaissance team knocked out of the park! The rooms were spacious and super clean and in a great location of the city. The Renaissance will forever hold a special place in my heart with all the memories we made there!

Zeena M.

Yelp
I'm leaving 2 stars because the location is decent. We had many issues our first day and actually left in the middle of our second day to go elsewhere. The cooling unit in the room was awfully loud. The system also wasn't functioning properly. When set to 60 degrees, we were still hot. I believe warm air was blowing out of the vent the entire time. We ordered room service from the restaurant below and food was 0/5 stars. I ordered a French onion soup with no cheese. They sent up a 12oz cup with only about 4oz of soup in it. Medium burger was served burnt. I plugged my phone into the outlet next to the bed and my phone died over night. Woke up late for meetings realizing that my phone was not charging at all! 8/10 outlets were not working so as two people working remotely, we struggled to keep our devices charged. Speaking of work, wifi was awful. We had to work off of our hotspots all day. Our sheets smelled used. Bathroom could use more towel hooks. One is not enough. Front desk was a pain to get in touch with.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here on 22 March and upon check-in we had a lovely young man whose name I sadly cannot remember. He was a young African-American man, tall and thin and was excellent.. without us even having to ask, he upgraded our room. Because of our membership status,, we are eligible for upgraded rooms if they are available, but we usually have to ask. Not with this young man! He did his job better than any check-in we've ever had at any Marriott and we were just very pleased.. This is how you provide excellent service !the service at this hotel overall was impeccable. The room was lovely and spacious with great views. We loved the close proximity to trendy, eating spots and bars.. there was music in the lobby that Friday night and it was great. Overall, we would highly recommend this hotel on all points..

Alisa S.

Yelp
Everything was awesome at this hotel. They were amazing with all the questions I had, which were answered quickly. They never made me feel like I was bothering them. The staff was incredible...from the valet to check in to Jakob the bar tender. I really can not say enough good things about them. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are really nice and large. The views are beautiful. It is a great location right on Chestnut Street. I would definitly stay at this hotel in the future. I highly recommed it here!!!

Michael K.

Yelp
God. Why did I stay here? Im Bonvoy Gold, not that this status means anything anymore at least not like with Starwood...but still. I expected so much better. This may be a nearly last stay with a Marriott brand hotel. I get into the room - it's freezing. Temp set to 65 deg F. I have to turn off the A/C altogether to warm up the room. Besides that - the A/C is super loud when it starts and stops. So much so I couldn't have it on at all during sleep. The bed literally has two sheets on it - no comforter. WTF. The shower door has been installed incorrectly and not only is it off it's rail and I have to fix it just to have a shower, after it dangerously fell, but I have to get in the shower behind the shower head, WTF. Who does this? The internet drops out every 5-10 mins - interrupting my business conference calls. WTF. The hotel must have windows with a single pane of glass...I can hear the cross walk in the street going off in the morning. So then the next morning I ask for a comforter for that night. They leave a folded up comforter on my bedside table. Not on the bed and it has no cover on it. Just a plain out-of-the-box comforter. And during this review, the internet has reset itself twice....again. Worst hotel. Don't stay here. The Marriott brand is dropping in quality rapidly. Their loyalty program and any status associated is worthless.

Rizma W.

Yelp
4.5 stars! Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The staff we very nice and went out of their way to be helpful. The bartender wasn't too busy so he personally brought fresh glasses to my room so I could have a free hand to carry my ice bucket. Mr. Giancarlo Rodriguez saw me taking pictures of the cool graffiti in the lobby, and he offered to walk me down to the pool to show me the graffiti art at the bottom of the hotel pool. Very cool! He's also a fellow Neopolitan pizza enthusiast and offered us some great recommendations of where to eat, the best things to order, as well as the best route to get there. These folks clearly take pride in their property, their city, as well as providing fantastic customer service. The rooms were cozy, quiet and spacious and offered a great views of the city. The decor was modern, minimalist and very attractive. The walls were adorned with Philly-themed pop art, giving the room a fun, local flair. (Again, the really cool artistic graffiti in the lobby...I never thought I'd see the day where I viewed graffiti as art.) I appreciated the little touches like the tiny night lights under the outlets in the bathroom, the bottle opener attached to the fridge and the stand at the bottom of the entertainment center for guests to deposit their shoes and/or luggage. Every room has a Keurig coffee machine, with K-cups that's both coffee and English breakfast tea. I really enjoyed bthe Aveda bath products offered in the rooms. They have a very light and clean scent, rinse away thoroughly and otherwise don't leave an icky residue on my skin like the toiletries at other Marriott properties I've stayed in. the shower in the bathroom is fantastic and has great water pressure. It's also adjustable so if you like thin "pins and needles" streams or more but of a "rainshower" soak, you can no adjust the shower to your specific preferences. The linens great; the towels are just coarse enough to give you a good wash without sloughing your skin off... Love it. This hotel is in the heart of the city and a short walk from a multitude of delis, cafes and restaurants. It's also a short walk/ride to a variety of sights and attractions. A few other things to note: Ice machines are available only on the odd numbered floors. The windows are not soundproof. They kept out most city noise, but I could hear some guy yelling and some other idiot laying on his horn from 10 floors up. Not a big deal though; I just turned up the TV. Platinum Elite Bonvoy members and above: br advised that there is no concierge lounge in this hotel. They did give me a coupon for a free continental breakfast though (I'm a Titanium Elite member). As I mentioned, this hotel is in the heart of the city. As such, parking is extremely limited and there is no on-site parking. There is a parking garage a half block from the hotel with rates of $8 an hour, or $28 a day. Please note that this parking garage is very low and very narrow so if you have a large vehicle, this might not be the best option for you (I think the clearance height in the garage is 6 feet, 4 inches). I have a Chevy Equinox and I made out okay, but it was nerve-wracking

Richard S.

Yelp
The hotel experience was subpar. Firstly the room lighting is sparse so the room is very dark at night. Secondly the fitted sheet on the bed was too small and it did not stay on the mattress. Thirdly the remote control was defective in that it did not light up when used so with the room darkness it was impossible to see what I was doing at night. Finally the bsth towels were like sandpaper and extremely thin which is surprising for a 4 star hotel.

Emma R.

Yelp
I stayed here back in early May for a wedding. I left my dress in the closet and realized soon after leaving my mistake. Front desk assured me they had it and all I had to do was submit it on ileftmystuff.com. I did and waited... eventually the site tells me the ticket timed out with no reply. I call. They confirm they have the desk so resubmit. I do. Ticket is accepted. I pay $40 thru the site to have it mailed back. I get a message the mailing label was never printed. I call and ask and they tell me "it's in the mail". Of course, the mailing label was never printed and I never received it. I spent the last 3 months periodically calling and asking (frequently reassured that housekeeping would call me back - which never once happened). Eventually I was told that they have no idea what happened and that's that. My mistake for leaving the dress but I wish I didn't pay to have nothing mailed. And I'm sure everyone wishes we could have those hours of our lives back we wasted trying to track down a housekeeping guy who is a ghost.

Victoria L.

Yelp
The view, and the room was great! The hotel has a lot of charm, with relevant Decor. The bathrooms were very clean and the water pressure was excellent. Would definitely be a return customer.

Kaitlyn K.

Yelp
Best location in the historic area. Steps from Indep Hall, Revolutionary War Museum and Liberty Bell. Modern rooms with updated bathrooms, We had a corner room with great view. Pretty common areas. Friendly staff. Upgrade + late checkout via bonvoy elite.

Alicia G.

Yelp
Recently finished a stay at The Renaissance Philadelphia Downtown. Overall, great hotel and would definitely return! Pros: Staff was excellent and shoutout to Erik and the rest of the staff @ the front desk...excellent customer service, Titanium status recognized, nice large corner room with park view, brand new luxe robes in black with matching slippers, complimentary bottled waters at the front desk, street/meter parking was right outside so didn't need to spend the $50++/night for valet, hotel is walking distance to bars, restaurants, Franklin Fountain for yummy ice cream and touristy stuff. Cons: There was no housekeeping unless you requested it, breakfast was just okay from the menu during the week and a not very good buffet on weekends, but the staff was great. I suggest you grab coffee from the hotel then head out to eat breakfast elsewhere.

Dereck N.

Yelp
I rated my stay a 3 because it was a pretty average experience. The location of the property is just FANTASTIC; it's literally right next to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell center, a few blocks from the Penn's Landing waterfront, close to city hall, and not far from South Street with tons of different restaurants, shops, etc. I don't think any hotel in Downtown Philly is better situated. The parking situation is a bit odd. The hotel advertises valet service but when you pull up there is no one readily available to provide that service (you have to go inside); however, there is a public parking garage literally around the corner and the rates are cheaper than the valet anyway (and FYI, the hotel uses that garage for valet as well, so you might as well save yourself the valet cost). The hotel was clearly recently renovated and the rooms are uniquely and nicely decorated, and very fitting for the Philly culture and feel. My only gripes here are that the Black accent walls can make the room feel a bit dark and the lack of storage space is strange for a hotel (there's only like 2 small drawers and a SUPER tiny closet); seems an odd design choice when the room clearly has ample space to accommodate more storage. The hotel definitely has the feel of a smaller boutique hotel, which is nice if you enjoy that kind of experience. The service was decent, but not as stellar as I've come to expect from a Renaissance Hotel. My biggest gripes (other than the delays in waiting for an elevator since they're small and the restrictions are to have only 2 people at a time in them or one party) were the lack of basic amenities that you would expect from a 4-star hotel, like having a little shop to pick up essentials or even vending machines. Also, my husband and I have stayed at a few hotels during this covid era and it didn't seem like the hotel takes the cleanliness and disinfecting of public spaces and rooms as seriously or thoroughly as other hotels. We never once saw anyone wiping down anything in public spaces (and we were in and out of the hotel for 3 days straight) and we even saw one of the housekeepers cleaning one of the rooms on our floor without wearing a mask. I did provide this feedback to the hotel and someone got back to me right away, which was nice. All in all, not a bad stay.

John M.

Yelp
This hotel is an absolute PERFECT place to stay if you are visiting the historic sites of Philadelphia. It's just a couple of blocks from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, oh, and the hotel is great. The staff is so friendly and helpful--I really can't say enough about them. My room was clean, comfortable and spacious. I appreciated the several conveniently place outlets--no hunting for a place in this room to charge your phone or plug in the iron. Also, the individually packaged Aveda soap bars and assorted toiletries were even a step above the usual Paul Mitchell standards. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Emily H.

Yelp
If you're a history buff but want your accommodations to be modern-day, this is the hotel for you. This Marriott is a block from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, a block or two from the Benjamin Franklin Museum and burial site, very close to the Betsy Ross House. You practically trip on history when you step out of its front doors. And while the location is supreme, the service didn't disappoint either. My family and I stayed here as part of a recent wedding, and the hotel staff, including hotel managers, were quick to greet us each time we passed through the lobby. The rooms were comfortable as well, which I got to know well considering I was in my room taking care of an infant for a good portion of my stay. Two things I learned as a new parent: Black-out curtains and thick walls are a huge help, and this hotel has both of these. The groom and groomsmen got ready in the room next door, but despite having some louder guys among the group, I never heard them once. I also appreciated that the hotel TVs have Netflix programmed on them. The bed was comfy; the showers were hot. The hotel met all of our needs. I would definitely stay here again if I ever need another room in Philly.

Courtney K.

Yelp
Bottom Line: Perfect location, and nicely remodeled in 2019 but still has thin walls. I think this is one of the best hotels in Philly due to it's awesome location in the Old City. Aside from being surrounded by history, there are tons of restaurants nearby and shopping on 3rd street is close too. Other sites, like Redding Terminal Market, are a bit further away but still within walking distance. I'd recommend an Uber or similar to get to the museums. This hotel was previously an Omni before changing hands to Marriott/SPG and going by the name of The Franklin Hotel. It's now a hip Rennaissance with two bars in the lobby, a nice gym and an indoor pool and hot tub. As noted above, the walls are thin. Light sleepers might want to bring a noise machine. I always set the HVAC system so the fan runs constantly and if needed, wear my noise cancelling headphones too. Another downside to this hotel is that there are not any refrigerators in the room which seems so odd to me. A refrigerator is always nice for drinks, leftovers, breast milk, prescriptions that need to be refrigerated, etc. and I can't believe it's not standard these days. Parking at this hotel was advertised at $38 per night which seems fair given the location but after tax it was $50 per night. Seems they should just advertise it as such. There is a self parking option too which I suspect is next door at the Burge so that might be the way to go for about 1/2 the price. I've had two great stays here and would definitely consider either staying here again or staying at the Kimpton next door.

Yelp
Lobby & room are cool. We got a King bed room . Chair is not comfortable. Bed is okay. Pillow out of cover. Bed fitted sheet was reversed. Bathroom sink is loud at night. Different experience with other four stars hotel. Location is good. Near liberty Bell. About 15mins walk to shopping center, Chinatown & terminal reading

Mark G.

Yelp
Checked in early at 1045am our room was ready. Very nice. We parked right in front and used the valet. We are here for two nights. The staff are friendly, helpful and all smiling. We got upgraded to a corner room looking south southeast, partial views of the Delaware. Also very nice. We had late breakfast in the lobby restaurant. Good selections and food service in a very comfortable setting. We were given two vouchers for breakfast Sat & Sun which we used. Breakfast was good. A negative is no robes available. Typically this level Marriott hotel normally supplies robes. While we intended to check out the pool we never got the chance it did look nice. The location of this property is ideal if you are doing anything around Olde City or the historic sites. Plenty of great restaurants within easy walking distance. There was live music in the lobby bar on Friday nite. Service was great throughout the hotel. The room was comfortable and quiet during our stay. Bathroom was clean and everything worked fine. Price is comparable for similar properties. A nice place to stay for a short trip into town. Mark.

Yelp
This was our second stay at the Renaissance Hotel. The staff was friendly and immediately attentive, checking us in right away. The lobby and bar were comfortable and well appointed. Our accommodations were roomy, clean and quite comfortable. I appreciated the AVEDA grooming products. Checkout was a breeze. This will be our go to hotel whenever we are in town!

Yelp
This hotel is in the perfect spot and has good amenities, yet there were a few flaws. The black walls in the room were a bit much, and the restaurant in the hotel was a bit subpar. Overall good for an overnight.

Yelp
My least favorite mid-to-nice Marriott property in PHL ... and I've stayed in them all, even post SPG merger. The staff here is generally slow and therefore the service feels less than other locations, especially other Renaissance's which often feel very hands-on boutique. Not this place. As an Ambassador Elite, is recommend avoiding this one simply because you have better options. Maybe their service will improve over time.

Yelp
I spent a few nights in this hotel a couple months ago, and was pretty severely bitten by bedbugs as a result. Not know what bedbug bites are, I shrugged it off at first as a random rash, but by the end of my stay, it was pretty obvious I'd been assaulted by the little critters. I brought this to the attention of the hotel management, both in person and via letter, but they weren't particularly interested in dealing with it. I also made corporate Marriott aware of it by both phone, email, and letter, all of which were (surprisingly, especially given that I am a "titanium" Marriott member) roundly ignored. In fact, I never got a response from anyone, either at the hotel or from Marriott. So, take your chances at this hotel; there are plenty of other choices, most of which probably don't have bedbugs.

Yelp
Location! Location! Location! I came to Philadelphia for work and normally stay downtown, but when I saw that the hotel was a block from Liberty Hall, I knew I wanted to switch it up. The staff was so helpful when I asked about leaving my bags to go walk around, and even gave a few tips on how to see things without doing the museum tour. Breakfast in the morning was a little disappointing, but that should probably be a review of Chez Ben instead of the hotel. Staff wasn't overly friendly... ordering a cappuccino instead of regular coffee apparently was not very appreciated.

Yelp
Centrally located hotel, however, most likely not worth the category 6 rating from Marriott. The photos look updated however, our room seemed to be lacking furnishings. The bathroom was clean, nothing spectacular, the updated tile work seemed shabby. I'm a platinum elite with Marriott, this hotel has no lounge, the free continental breakfast was lackluster, nothing to rave about. The coffee and the service were both good. I wasn't upgraded, we booked with a king bed and that's what I received, nothing special. The hotel bar was a bit over priced as most are, we had a pretty horrible short bread cake a decent over priced bottle of wine. Overall, great location for sightseeing and enjoying philly however, there are better Marriott properties in Philadelphia. I'd recommend the Residence Inn or the Le Meridian if you're looking for an economic stay with nice room upgrades.

Yelp
No words can really describe how much I loved this hotel. Everything about my stay was perfect and let me tell you a little bit about this lovely hotel. I arrived at 9 am after taking a redeye from San Francisco. I didn't sleep a wink on the plane and was beyond tired. I call in advance to see if I could get a hotel room early, but they made no promises, which I understood. When I arrived at about 9:15 am, they miraculously found me a room and I could have hugged the front desk staff for working so hard to make this happen. I was so tired I was nearly delirious but mainly so thankful to have a room to rest in. When I walked into my room, I fell in love. My room was HUGE and beautifully decorated in perfect Philly decor. I took a quick and relaxing bath and hopped right into my comfy bed. My room was a bit hot, but I didn't care, I needed sleep. After waking up, the room was still hot. I called the front desk, and they mentioned there was an issue with the AC and they were working on it. Since they had colder rooms available, they switched me right away. The staff was so kind, they helped me move my things and made sure I was comfortable. I'm not used to this level of attention, but it was greatly appreciated. Even on the first floor, my room had an ideal view and I made sure to open my curtains every day to see was was going on in Old City. My stay here was perfect. I loved that this wasn't a cookie-cutter hotel and it has Philly style incorporated into everything. This hotel has a great vibe and so many people commented on how much they enjoyed the decor. Shout out to my favorite people, Colin, Tim and Marcus. You guys are rock-stars and I appreciate everything you did make my stay and conference perfect. We couldn't have done it without you and you were the VERY best people to work with. The front desk staff very kindly dealt with me losing my key three times (sorry about that) and they offered meal/dining suggestions in the area. Their knowledge and insights were greatly appreciated. The location of this hotel is ideal, you can walk to restaurants and shops as well as the Liberty Bell. There is no need for taxis/Uber and it is easy to navigate this area. I highly recommend you explore, there are so many great things to see and do. If you are coming to visit Philly, STAY HERE. You will love it!

Yelp
Short and sweet: Lobby/bar attractive, but the check-in space small and dingy. Rooms clean. Bathrooms need a hook or two to hang towels. Toilet rocked on the floor when you sit down. Stupid electrical cords from sconce lighting running down wall...looks learning disabled. I've experienced better, however this was close to the wedding venue we were attending. Close enough to guide my sloshed friend back to the room and pour her into bed. ;)

Yelp
Sure, it's pricey. But you probably can't beat it for location, casual elegance, and comfort. Housekeeping and staff are topnotch, especially Zach who took great care of us upon our arrival. Negatives include a serious lack of places to stow your gear, and some kind of film on the windows that wrecks the otherwise wonderful view. Still, this is now our go-to hotel for business travel to Philadelphia.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of staying here recently. From the bellhop, lobby/ check-in receptionist, and bartender-everyone was warm and welcoming. I requested a corner room. Which allows for some extra space and spectacular views of the city. I can't wait to stay here again!

Yelp
Great location! Amazing staff! Even with the pandemic everyone is very attentive and always pleasant! Gerele is fantastic! No complaints!

Yelp
This hotel is in a spectacular location but has a mildly dysfunctional front desk staff. During my two day stay we had issues scheduling housekeeping with the front desk and then after my stay we found nearly $120 in extra, erroneous charges. On the bright side, the valet personnel was pleasant and professional. But, clearly, it is not a well oiled machine at the Renaissance Philadelphia Downtown Hotel and anyone that values good service and accurate billing should be aware of this.

Yelp
We we're there with a giant wedding party. Clean room, very attentive staff, excellent food and coffee at our private breakfast buffet. Most importantly, when I thought I lost my phone, the whole staff pitchEd to find it. I did.

Yelp
The Quick: Gorgeous venue and great location, but the walls were paper thin to the point we could hear normal conversations in the room next door. It was horrific, I couldn't sleep at all because we heard everything going on. I travel fairly often and have never had this issue before - the hotel was just redone why not spend the time insulating the walls? I actually put tissue paper in my ears. We might have well just stayed out all night and saved the money.

Yelp
Stayed here a couple years ago for a birthday weekend for my husband. The room was clean with nice finishes and the hotel was beautiful. Great location, within walking distance to a lot of great sites/tourist attractions. Nothing particularly memorable about the hotel itself, except that it was expensive. Nice stay.

Yelp
This hotel is right next to the Liberty Bell and is a great location to stay while visiting Philadelphia. The entire hotel was just renovated so everything is pretty much new. The check in desk is very small and a bit hard to find, but you will only need it once, so ok. There is self-parking available next to the hotel for $28 a night. The heating/cooling system is either or, so my room was hot. The window did open, but they had not replaced them during the renovation, so I wonder if they were able to close it after I left. I would not recommend that you have packages delivered to the hotel. One of mine was lost for several days. This might have been the fault of USPS, but it was an issue.

Yelp
I was a bit nervous, having a friend I hadn't seen in over 25 years stay with me at this hotel. I need not have worried. Every possible way to ensure a positive experience was demonstrated while we were there. The room was spacious and immaculate, the restaurant and bar downstairs inviting and satisfying, and every single member of the Staff bent over backwards to make sure we had a great time. Even the lone negative (which was NOT the hotel's fault, by the way) was taken care of quickly and to our satisfaction. I've stayed at MANY Marriott properties all over the US. This one was one of the best I've ever experienced and my friend's best hotel experience ever, according to them. Well done, folks!

Yelp
Nope! Never again. We move from one room because that room was disgusting -To another room that was more disgusting than the last! The last room had a bottle top sitting lying in the middle of the floor - Which clearly meant the floor was not vacuumed. They moved us to another room down the hall. And which in this room, there is dirt on the floor camouflage as " stains In the grout". Clear spots on the counter, which were explained as - "just watermarks!" More white stains in the carpet which couldn't be explained but clearly never cleaned! The end, were told to contact our 3rd party seller for help. This most was not about money, otherwise we would not have stayed here. This is not the standard of "The Marriott!" - no love lost.... we will never do it again! ‍

Yelp
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and my birthday here. We were married at this same hotel 6 years ago when it was the Omni. So much has changed but I love the new look and how stylish everything is. The staff were extremely helpful and kind. Our room was huge, we had a kind bed. The curtains that blacked out the light were perfect for our mornings after partying lol. The breakfast was phenomenal. It was so good that we had to order twice. We did not have dinner which I would get when we come back to visit because I am sure it tastes amazing. Take a look at the photos of the women in the restaurant, as they are puzzle piece art. We will certainly be back again.

Yelp
Big rooms, fantastic location, upgraded modern bathrooms and masculine, artsy almost industrial decor give this Marriott property welcome personality and charm. Expect space to spread out, functional areas, in room fridge, and lovely Aveda toiletries. As expected in Philadelphia, cleanliness standards are lacking. My super nice towels were marred by long tangled hairs of guests long gone, the bathroom sink was partially unwashed with food particles from past guests dried to it, and a corn kernel sized booger stuck to the lower edge of my bed side table. Yellow urine stains colored the base of the toilet, a testament to past male guests' poor aim. The door to hallway is thin, and after 8am the sound of slamming doors from guest and housekeeper comings and goings is nearly constant. Housekeeping in the room next to mine cleaning was audible, from the shower glass walls being cleaned to the bathroom door's closings shaking the wall behind my bed. Outside traffic is loud and clear, despite double panes windows. Decent continental breakfast for platinum and above Bonvoy members. Great spot for heavy sleepers, not so much for germaphobes or light sleepers.

Yelp
Zero stars if possible. Michelle, the bartender doesn't wait on attractive women. She literally cleared an empty glass right in front of me yet didn't acknowledge my existence. Then she gave the man next to me his check but still did not wait on me. I had to wait until the male bartender returned to get serviced. The elevator goes down but only get light indicating it's an up elevator illuminates. The toilet flushing has a screeching sound for five minutes after so don't dare use the toilet in the middle of the night because you won't get back to sleep. They leave a giant cleaning cart outside the public restroom all day but nobody is cleaning it when it desperately needs cleaning because the handicap stall is backed up with fecal matter. The manager Albert Washington doesn't care at all about your stay and it reflects all the way down to the bartenders.

Yelp
This place is amazing for the price. The decor is beautiful and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. The room was very spacious and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Checkout is at 12 and they will store your luggage to allow you to tour the city without an extra charge. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Had a great experience staying here on vacation. Staff was very friendly. It's located in the perfect area if you're looking to be a tourist like I was. Manager of guest services Giancarlo was so helpful and nice. I left almost all of my clothes there after I checked out. He personally helped me and my clothes were already shipped back to my house before I was even home from vacation! Great hospitality. They are also dog friendly!
