Renatos Review - Jersey City - New York - The Infatuation

"Renatos is a casual Italian spot that’s been in The Heights since the ‘50s. It’s not the best Italian or pizza in the area, but the New York-style slices are big, filling, and heavy on toppings. We recommend the Grandma - a simple square pie with mozzarella and lots of tomato - especially if you point to a slice that’s extra charred, which provides some crunch to balance the dough and cheese. Come here solo at 11am or 11pm or whenever you want a quick slice without a wait." - Matt Tervooren

Lots of variety of authentic Italian food. Amazing pizza sauce (not too much acidity). Nice selections of wine and brews. Def can hold a nice amount of people. They also have a party/banquet hall in the back and another part of their restaurant. If you like garlic be prepared to have it welcome your senses as you walk in. Check out the desserts too. Key lime pie and the toasted almond cake highly recommended. Specials daily.

I had a party of 10 catered with Renato's Pizza Masters. It was the first time I've catered through them although I've been going to their great restaurant for years. They couldn't have been more helpful and thorough from the ordering process to the delivery process. The food was meticulously prepared, clearly marked, packed perfectly, and delivered smoothly. The food was fresh and hot, and above all delicious! The order came with serving utensils and bread. All of my guests remarked about how good the food was! Rather than stressing out about cooking for a large group, Renato's saved the day and made it a success. Thank you so much, Renato's!

Google
Renato's is a separate restaurant with parking lot in back which was because we parked in that lot first, walked up stairs to locked door. Drive around front and parked in that lot and the pizzaria was open. I thought the pizza was great, my wife wasn't a fan. We got the Margherita with sausage and onion, our go to pizza. It did seem to be more seasoned than many, in a good way I thought. We were just passing through and picked it based on Dave's one bite score, and hours. Seems like lots of places aren't open for lunch.

Google
Their pizza’s were amazing we ordered 10 large pizzas they all were tasty, Grandma’s and chicken Bruschetta stood out. One feedback, if you are delivering a bulk order please ensure that pizza is not crushed.

DO NOT order from here if you’re vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher or SIMPLY DON’T WANT SURPRISE RANDOM MEAT IN YOUR FOOD. I ordered a plain Margherita pie and they put HAM in it, mixed into the sauce. I don’t eat pork!! When I called they asked me if all the slices had pork on it like I was going to bite into again to find out. The worst part is the ham was hidden with the sauce so it’s a surprise factor 🤮 When I called, they didn’t apologize. My bf brought the pizza back, and they still DENIED stating they saw nothing until I said I had a photo taken of it — then suddenly the story changed saying they were making another pie I never asked for. “K” in particular was rude, dishonest, and dismissive. They lied, gaslit me, and worst of all, refused to give me a refund stating I asked for another pizza. WHY WOULD I TRUST THE FOOD AGAIN?????????? No common sense and just horrible customer service on top of the lying. They clearly don’t take these things seriously, even in a diverse neighborhood where it matters most. I was a loyal customer for years — never again!!! A simple apology and refund would have solved this but instead I was GASLIT and told I was lying how pathetic and shameful!!!!!

We’ve been going to and ordering from Renato’s Pizza Masters for over 22 years now and hands down it’s the best place for Italian food in JC. From pizza to pasta and beyond, it’s all excellent! (And I’m Italian & have been cooking Italian food my whole life so I’m pretty picky about good Italian food.) We just had my daughter’s baby shower at Renato’s and everything was perfect! Everyone was raving about the food (no surprise there!) and how well everything went. Great space if you are planning an event. Food is amazing and staff is excellent. A big shout out to Mark, who went above and beyond to make sure everything flowed seamlessly. You guys are the best!

What a wonderful experience we had at Renato’s Mark and his staff were fantastic. My family needed to host a funeral luncheon and we are from out of state. Mark was so kind and prompt to help us arrange a beautiful luncheon my father would have enjoyed. The food was outstanding and the service was very attentive. Thank you Mark for making our family feel so welcome.

Google
It’s in the name - and it’s true. Renato’s Pizza Masters absolutely lives up to the title. The pizza is always spot-on: perfect crust, flavorful sauce, and cheese that melts like a dream. What really sets them apart is the consistency. Every time I go, the quality never dips. The staff is friendly, the service is fast, and the vibe is warm and welcoming. Great food, great people, and amazing value for the quality. It’s the kind of place you keep coming back to. Awesome pizza, especially for the price.

Yelp
Great pizza! Lots of options for specialty pies. Gluten free options as well. Fast service and pizza is always still hot when delivered!

Yelp
Best pizza in the heights. This place has been here for a long time and the pizza is great. Very nice since they remodeled too. I like most of the slices I get here but my over all favorite is the buffalo chicken slice. Easily best buffalo chicken pizza I have ever had. Pepperoni and Sicilian is good here as well. My coworkers also love the sandwiches and I need to try them as well. Service is always pleasant and pretty quick. Plenty of places to sit down and eat here. Very clean and spacious. As I said best pizza in the area.

Yelp
*This is a review for the grandma pie ONLY*. Oh man, pains me to write this. I've been to the one in Bayonne, and thought that flavor wise, this would be similar. I was wrong. The grandma pie slice is very different. The sauce is overly sweet, the mozzarella did not taste right, no basil on top, no crunch when you bite in. A let down for me personally. Maybe I caught them on an off day. I will say, that the normal pies looked delicious, although I didn't try, it. The service was excellent. Very fast, everything is very fresh. Ordered a salad and some garlic knots, both were good. Although it wasn't for me, this might fit your tastebuds, a lot of people love Renatos. Great place to have a chill bite with family and friends. Good vibes!

Yelp
(Delivered 07/15/2023 SA @ 5:30pm): Being pizza masters was such a bold statement, Renato! In my quest to explore the various cuisine scenes throughout Jersey City, my friend and I came across Renato's Pizza Masters to fill my pizza craving. With a sizable Italian community, I already ate some wonderful pizza in the neighborhood from Gino's Pizzeria and Rizzo's Bakery, I expected nothing less. A staple in Jersey City Heights for over 60 years https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=slEDkzymmezTwnnRMQe73w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw who pride themselves on authentic Italian cuisine, we first came across this business on our many walks with the lil' black beast. Would Renato prove to be a pizza master in our minds!? PURCHASE Bread (COMP): Soft pieces of bread thrown in for the heck of it, I guess. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=HQJ_yMQwcAGQAx24pnHQ0w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Tomato & Red Onion Salad ($4.95): Diced tomatoes and red onions tossed with house dressing and balsamic vinegar, topped with basil, we used this tasty dish with the bread and pizza topping. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=9_YdQQItW8Rv96B3J-RskA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Caesar Salad ($7.50): Romaine lettuce with homemade croutons and shaved parmesan with house made caesar dressing, this arrived too limp, soaked (less dressing or on the side, please), and wimpy for our liking. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=7IiNCjKt_6mWREKE6JPokA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw 8pc Buffalo Wings ($10.95): There was nothing really special about these, and as usual I barely touched the bleu cheese dressing. There was a good amount of meat on each piece. Otherwise, this was a one-and-done for us. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Qh2hgOBHT6Tpga0ODvOTww&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Eggplant Parmigiana Sandwich ($9.50): Fried seasoned eggplant topped with tomato ragu sauce and mozzarella cheese lightly toasted, this was my go-to sandwich and always had to try it. This was a hungry man's meal filled with flavor that lasted into the next day. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=fMVKBLXRpegVTFfAdEunqA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Signature Grandma Pizza ($19.00): Their all-time favorite made with fresh mozzarella cheese, plum tomato sauce, olive oil, garlic, on a thick crispy rectangle crust, I felt this was their version of a Detroit pizza. It was a simple straightforward pie that reminded me of the rectangular ones I enjoyed at lunch time in my lower education years. It was nice, but I wouldn't order it again. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=xxht4__Fksh2ZnTjO-nuYQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw 5" Cannoli ($3.00): Your standard mascarpone and chocolate chip-filled flaky pastry shell, it was sizable and blissful to eat. The shell held together well and didn't crumble, which held everything together. I'd leave a gun for this! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=cPJGdosl0en1en2IQJvK6Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Carrot Cake ($4.95): A thick slice with cream cheese filling, lots of carrot bits, and a creamy layer of icing, this was a hearty dessert that stuck to your ribs in a delightful way. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=NOaITLA216NXVr2nj8gj5A&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Delivery Fee ($2.60): Sometimes it happened - c'est la vie. SERVICE I easily placed my order over the phone for a designated delivery time, a friendly gentleman repeated my order back to me, and about 45 minutes later, a young man was at the doorstep with our order all securely packed up - grazie! PARKING (FREE; N/A this instance) This was a moot point in this case since our food was delivered. Otherwise, they apparently had two onsite lots in addition to plenty of spots along the main drag of Central Ave. and all surrounding side streets. - nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Sadly, my only recollection of this place while we walked by was a well-kept facade with a large signage. I imagined plenty of natural lighting came through the large front windows and door while electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. I had no idea about TVs or any background music. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=0wjy9B2vdmte3utRB8-R6w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops... but I was dressed-down for delivery. OVERALL Generally speaking, I was fine with Renato's Pizza Masters and would consider another visit. However, nothing really stood. The prices were comparable, good portion sizes, extensive menu, and straightforward (delivery) service. It would be nice to enjoy a sit down meal with a beer. Plus, I always preferred to support local small mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $68.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Yelp
A solid 4 stars for Italian in the Heights section of jersey city. We celebrated for a party of 20+ people and were able to make reservations the night before. The food was pretty good, we ordered a number of things and had it family style. Gnocchi (pillowy and marinara sauce was just seasoned right), dinner special was scallops shrimp roasted tomatoes in a creamy pesto sauces, mussels in white wine sauce (tender and presented well), chicken Marsala with angel hair, chicken Francese, herbed crusted salmon was cooked just right, tender and not overcooked- served on a bed of salad. Penne vodka with chicken is a classic dish they've perfected. Calamari was crisp and battered thinly served with marinara. Chicken Alfredo was creamy and cheesy. Margherita pizza was great as well. Simple and classic. We had the back room which was very comfortable bright and more dressed up for gatherings. Our servers were friendly and service was prompt. For dessert we had tiramisu which was so good. The vibe is casual, neighborly and not stuffy. A lot of locals having fun. Parking is a private lot and street parking. Overall experience is a 5, and will recommend even just for take out!

Yelp
My Wife and me order delivery from here all the time. It's always so good. We've gone to eat at the restaurant twice and both times were fantastic The food is dead on and the staff is very friendly. The restaurant is very nice and clean I highly recommend going to eat here

Yelp
Great food, great prices... great service. Get the Mussels and the chicken Italiano. You'll dream about them later.

Yelp
Delicious pizza but a little confusing to order for newbies. I still haven't figured out why we had to get a Coke from the cooler instead of the fountain machine when they knew we were eating in. If I had to do it over again I would just get a slice of grandmas because it was super special!! I'm glad we made the home to The Heights to give this a try. Also: bathrooms are super nice.

Yelp
Probably the best spot to grab a slice in the Heights? Everything is always incredibly delicious! The only downside is that this place always seems busy.

Yelp
I stopped in on a friday night during the dinner rush with my family and this place did not disappoint! Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted by the aromas coming from their open kitchen, were various pizzas and other dishes were being prepared. We walked up to the counter and placed our order, sat at a table and our food came out shortly after. We all really liked the pizza, and we liked the variety offered. Mt daughter loved the chicken parm slice, my sister had the supreme and I had the chicken buffalo. Pizza tasted fresh and not dried out from being reheated. I felt the service was great, and so was the food so that made me very happy. The dining room was also set up pretty nice and looked clean. I did not use the restrooms so I cannot extend my review there.

Yelp
Renato's Pizza Master really mastered the art of pizza making! We ordered the margarita pizza. You can taste the freshly baked dough, and the thin crispy crust provided the Perfect foundation for the vibrant tomato sauce. The ambiance of the restaurant further enhanced the overall dining experience. The warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with attentive staff, created a welcoming environments.

Yelp
I've been popping in here for about a year and a half now. The slice is great. Mushrooms are never rubbery or sour. Cheese is tight. Crust is crispy. All standard pizza needs. But the organization itself is evidently run by people who give a shit. They are actively trying to keep the pie cost low, like last decade low. And in an age where everything is higher, that matters. They even have the salty Italian descendant running the counta, runnin da slices, rolls, and mini pies. Will return. Probably for a calzone.

Yelp
Went here for a party and I kinda love this place! The food was great specially the Rigatoni Vodka! Location: It is located in Jersey City. The interior is good for like 20 people party. Service: they were nice and quick to serve. Food: so it is a set menu cause its a party. I love RIGATONI VODKA: the pasta is cooked perfectly and the sauce is so flavorful, it has a little spice at the end which I love. PORK TENDERLOIN: the pork afcourse was tender and the gravy was soo good! Price rating: 6/10, it was not bad. I will definitely come back here to try their pizza! Get the RIGATONI VODKA!

Yelp
It's okay pizza. Got the grandma pizza, 18" I think. Comes in a rectangular shape. I probably wouldn't go back. The grease was real. Lots of cheese. No meat. And the quality was nothing to brag about. We waited 15 minutes probably on a Tuesday night. I think price was like $21. I'm not the biggest pizza person, so it didn't stand out too much to me. But it was better than Joe's. Come at me haha

Yelp
oh lordy, what a nice treat this was on a slow monday night. i parked out in front, in the original attempt of finally trying another pizza spot down the block, but then i saw its been around since 1959. i was skeptical, but since it boasted that year, i said let me give the ole yelp a try and see what this place is about. what a surprise, great reviews. it feels incredibly modern, and more like a chain once you walk in, but you will be smacked in the face with the enticing smell of all things italian cuisine related - you know like garlic, toasted bread, and anything that helps you slip into a food coma. head over to the left, order at the counter, take a number and seat yourself. someone will bring over your food. ill try to speed this up... vodka slice - thick enough to hold the heavy cheese, but thin enough that its a typical slice. no flop, but not too crispy. its loaded with cheese, fresh basil, with splashes of vodka sauce. one bite, and i made up my mind, id come back for another. we grabbed 1 deep dish style pie and regretted it. we needed another. its mini, but not too deep. bottom crust resembles foccacia, and its saucy. its a great snack, dont share. my date grabbed the pepperoni roll, although tasty, it was incredibly oilly. way too oilly even for his taste. it was pouring out and he had to drip dry with napkins. despite this, he ate it and even tasted better the next day. none of the desserts are made in house, but the creme brulee cheesecake was nice. top the meal off with local bottled soda, with their own label on it. were looking forward to coming back.

Christopher D.

Yelp
The pizza was very average. Not bad. Not great. A little underdone to my taste. The order and delivery experience was 5 stars. The order was taken accurately and delivered within the estimated time. My only comment/suggestion would be that there was no evidence of a heated pouch to try and keep the pizza as warm/hot as possible.
google avatar

Julianna Y.

Yelp
One of the best margarita slices I've had. Flavor is delicious, and the way it's heated is also great! Why I give it 3 stars vs 5. HYGIENE The staff here heating up your pizza do not wear gloves!! not sure if this is something new, but it's concerning especially with Covid being an issue. Also just general hygiene should be the main focus at all restaurants. #dobetter

Yelp
Went to Renato's Pizza Masters for dinner on Sunday night. A place you can expect solid pizza that will please everyone. Quality: Renato's may not be the best pizza you will ever have, but it is consistent and tasty. It is a thicker slice with a heavy crust that still provides some crispiness. The sauce is on the sweeter end, but not overpowering. Expect some grease and don't go overboard with extra toppings, I think the plain slice is the way to go. We also ordered the Garlic Knots, which have a great texture, crunchy outside and soft inside. Quantity: Heavy pizza, and they really load up for extra cheese. Value: $4 for Garlic Knots. $15 for a Large Plain Pie, $2.50 Extra Per Topping. Ambiance: Renato's Pizza Masters is a pizza spot located in Jersey City Heights. It is a large space with a good sized dining area. It is very casual with a few televisions on the wall and tables that can be moved around to accommodate larger groups. The opposite end of the dining area has the ordering counter. They do slices, but it appeared most guests went with full pizzas. They had some funky artwork on the walls and pop music played in the background. Crowd: Busy on Friday night. Several families eating in the restaurant and a constant flow of people grabbing pick-up orders. Service: They have everyone order at the counter, take-out or eat-in. Pizzas come out pretty quick. Parking: Limited street parking on the main street area.

Yelp
First time here. You order at the front then you can find a table. Me and my partner ordered chicken Alfredo and penne vodka which came out quickly. They also served hot bread. Both dishes were really good and fresh. The portions were pretty big. Two people could share one dish.
google avatar

Kaushik T.

Yelp
We ordered signature margarita pizza. It was very delicious. Properly baked crispy and tasty perfect for 3 people

Yelp
Get the garlic pasta with angel hair, they use chicken broth and it is absolutely delicious!!

Yelp
DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS. We have been a customer for many years here. Today, we ordered delivery for our son. After we confirmed the address and all, we waited over 45 minutes, but we figured that due to the rain. We called back to check the status of the order, and they said it was delivered to the wrong address. But why do they ask for a phone number but not call you when they outside in front of your house/apartment to either take the cash from you or have you sign the receipt of the credit card. We spoke with Richie, the "Manager," and he confirmed that it was delivered to the wrong address so we asked if he can send one right out to us and since it was their mistake for them not to charge us for the pizza pie. He right away said no as if it was our mistake and like if the free pizza pie was going to make them bankrupt.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
I was looking for penne vodka in JC (Oh how I miss you Gino's) and stumbled onto Renato's. They're not on any of the delivery apps, so you do have to call to place your order. It's a little weird to not be able to track the delivery, but they definitely got it to me within their quoted 45 minute window. There was a $30 minimum order to deliver to my area, but that was fine. We both had an order of their penne vodka and honestly we could've done one order to share, but leftovers are always welcome. The penne vodka was quite good - not the best that I've ever had, but solid. Their bread was fantastic - I could eat that bread all day long. We also had a Caesar salad and it was just ok. I will definitely be ordering from Renato's again - some of their other pasta dishes sounded amazing.

Yelp
I'm the regular that always eats at Renato's, which is the restaurant in the back, but we always order takeout from Pizza Masters in the front. I haven't been inside Pizza Masters (since they renovated the front) and all I have to say is bravo! Let me set the stage for you. You walk in off Central Avenue and it's just this comfy cozy establishment, but all of sudden your nostrils are hit with the most amazing smells of garlic & oil (which of course is the smell of their homemade garlic knots). The staff is super friendly. We decided to dine in instead of takeout (it was that inviting). We ordered a slice of the veggie pizza, the penne pizza, and an antipasto. We walked in on the later side of the afternoon and there was NO shortage of pies or what was available. A++++ We ordered and sat down and you can just tell this place exudes "community." There were a group of men in the front, chatting over current events while eating their pasta dishes, a young family eating behind us, and other single diners sprinkled all over. The place was buzzing, but in the same sense you were forced to slow down and kick back. Place was immaculate. And the food, as usual, did not disappoint. The slices were dynamite, but let's talk about the dressing on the antipasto. I could put a straw in this dressing and sip it. It is one of the most delicious, refreshing dressings I have ever tasted. Anyone I take here that tries that dressing says it's delicious. Thank you for being such a happy, inviting place to be comfortable and eat delicious food. Cheers!

Yelp
Honestly I was very impressed with the pizza here. The vodka pizza in particular was ecxellent. Can't speak to the service or ambience, we got takeout.

Yelp
Great pizza and salads. Margarita pizza is the best. Restaurant in the back has old school Italian favorites.

Yelp
My go to pizza FOREVER!! The best! Hands down. The food is always great, affordable and service is always fast.

Yelp
I grew up in Jersey City (64 years old). Pizza Masters almost as old as me (60 years) was always our go to place for fresh pies; while I've enjoyed eating at Renato's time to time, last night I went old school. Escarole + beans (plenty of garlic just like momma), baked clams (used to get their mussels on fish night Fridays, felt like clams. And 2 slices of plain. Hadn't had pizza in a couple of years. It tasted just like I remember. A little taste of the past. Lots of gooey cheese, not a real thin crust but for me just right, a nice light but flavorful marinara. A niece from San Diego was visiting, she Loved it; Pizza Masters a taste of our past still holds up today! Great job!
google avatar

Roberto M.

Yelp
The best pizza in the heights, hands down. Probably the best in all of JC! Pizza always is fresh and tastes soooo good. Pastas and sandwiches are huge portions. Fine in or take out both are great experiences.
google avatar

George B.

Yelp
After some years, decided to do pizza Friday from here. Got a large pepperoni pie. The pizza was pretty good. Not oily as I remembered. Staff was friendly. Was told it'll be 15 mins for the pie and got it in 15 mins.

Yelp
Living in Jersey City for nearly 4 years and I just discovered Renato's. I don't know where I've been and why no one in my building knows about this spot, but it's INSANE! I've been on the hunt for a slice shop for years and like other people, I've been so disappointed with soggy, cold, gross pizza. Not only does Renato's have a pizzeria side, but they also have a dining room to host parties and intimate dinner. Ample parking lot in the back makes this place even more desirable. The staff is really vibrant and friendly. We felt right at home; not to mention you can totally come here in sweatpants and literally feel at home. Really nice community feel with unique slices daily. We tried the white, Buffalo chicken, and margherita and brought some more slices home and devoured them the next day. Super reasonable prices too and generous slices.
google avatar

Junior L.

Yelp
Delicious food, a Jersey city staple. The breadsticks are heavenly in the dining room. I love the penne, vodka and the pasta marinara sauce.
google avatar

Colleen D.

Yelp
Excellent food. Never been disappointed. Pizza is outstanding. Very nice restaurant. Always accommodating & friendly. Can't go wrong with Renatos.

Yelp
First and last time at Renato's. The pizza was burnt. All I could taste was burnt. The basic salad was pretty bad too.
google avatar

Mariam K.

Yelp
Honestly never knew about the back end restaurant portion until yesterday. They have their own little parking lot and everything with a side entrance. Went in & sat down right away - wasn't too crowded at 4ish but picked up as time went on. Their bread & sauce that they serve is *amazing*. I've also seen other reviews praise their salad & now I know why! Even their house salad tasted so so good. Ordered the penne vodka and I would've never thought that a portion size could be so large. And the sauce tasted super good too - wasn't spicy at all but tasted super well rounded and filling. Service was also great. For desert, we got the lemon sorbet, which I'd personally pass on because everything else in the meal was more than enough! Definitely recommend stopping by this Italian spot.

Yelp
First time ordering, and it hopefully won't be the last! Tasty food, with generous portions, at good prices! A hot sandwich in their amazing bread is to die for! Great pizza as well! Quality ingredients prepared by people who care! Check it out!

Rhesa R.

Yelp
I enjoyed a DELICIOUS dinner last evening that included the best Manhattan style clam chowder I've ever had. The service was very personal and we had a great time! I'm so happy this place is in my neighborhood!!!

Yelp
Renato's continues to be one of our family's staple restaurants. We use it for all 'special occasion' dinners, take out, and everything in between. In fact, if you ask anyone in the area about Renato's Pizza Masters (especially if they are from the area), they will likely say they order pizza from here. It's a real Jersey City landmark. The place is not fancy, but they do request you wear casual (not informal) wear. If you are in flip flops and a tank top, however, you are welcome to eat in the newly renovated pizzaria section of Renato's. While I do like the restaurant part, it's fun to see the different pizza creations they have to offer. Sidenote...I love their garlic knot sliders. It's a sandwhich made with their garlic knots instead of bread. You can usually only find these on the pizzaria side. There are so many great things on the menu, from apps to pasta, and they have daily specials too. For apps, my favorites are the fried calamari (which you can get two ways - one with venegar peppers and one with bruscetta on top), rice balls, eggplant rollatini (which I sometimes get as an entree), the stuff portobella mushroom, and the speidini. Sometimes they'll have a great special appetizer as well, like a crabcake or burrata salad. As for their pastas...really, everything this delicious, but I love the penne con pollo (chicken, sun dried tomatoes, and mushrooms in a savory-sweet demi-glace), the penne vodka, their rigattoni and crumbled sausage...and, if I am not mistaken, most of their pastas (which the exception of the penne) are homemade. The same goes for their entrees - you're safe with everything except the steak here. They have the classics like chicken/veal franchese and parm, but they have some interesting twists like the chicken Giardiniera, which is a chicken cutlet served over an argula salad. Explore the menu and don't be afraid to try something new. Every entree comes with their fresh made foccacia (which is like a meal in itself, and is sooooooo delicious), salad, and a side of potatoes/vegetables or pasta. Occasionally, if I'm feeling less formal, I'll get the grilled chicken sandwhich, served with pesto mayo and fries on their focaccia. It's a HUGE sandwhich, and it's absolutely tasty. And the pizza! The pizza is the best in the area. We love the margarita, but their pesto pizza and affimucata (with smoked mutz and arugula) are close seconds. We come here over and over again and we are never disappointed. Renato's is truly a wonderful dining establishment, and after everything that's gone on in the past two years with COVID, places like these deserve all the support they can get.

Yelp
Local solid pizza and casual Italian in a relaxed setting. They know who they are and who they're serving, and it's all very good. 60 years is a long time to be and that's right they've been serving here for SIXTY YEARS! They offer many different slices, and your usual Italian favorites. This ain't fancy or expensive, it's real and down to earth. The people working the counter and bringing food to your table are receptive, pleasant, and conscientious. what can I say? They're not getting any Michelin stars but hey who needs that when you have a delicious RED SAUCE. This is my go to for fast easy pizza. No surprises, dependable, and satisfying food. They shouldn't get one complaint but everyone has their own expectations. I'm happy Renato's exists and will continue to support them.

Yelp
Didn't even realize there's a whole restaurant in the back! I'm so used to the pizza only. The best part of this dinner was the side house salad. I usually don't care much for them but this one was great!! I got the penne con pollo with cavatelli pasta instead. I hate to say it but I was extremely underwhelmed. I didn't even take my leftovers to go because it was so average and flavorless. I would stick to the vodka sauce and add extra crushed pepper for something more reliable. Perhaps I just got the worst dish?? I'll give it a 4/5 because I will likely still be back.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I ate here tonight and left so disappointed. When we first ordered the man taking our order didn't pay close enough attention to what we were ordering and missed our garlic knots and chicken on my boyfriends chicken garlic and broccoli pasta. When the pasta arrived it was insanely gross, I wish I could pinpoint one part of the pasta that was bad but it was as a whole terrible. I'm talking actually disgusting. We didn't complain we just ordered some Alfredo with chicken instead, paid 17 extra dollars just to get nauseous from the chicken, this chicken was inedible, so mushy. After reading reviews from other customers I hope I get a more professional response than other reviewers have. There is definitely a lack of taking responsibility from management. I used to recommend this pizza to other people but after tonight I'd choose Little Caesar's over this place.

Yelp
The most disgusting chicken I've ever had it made grammar school food look good. Save urself 20$ and buy real food and cook at home cuz this food will turn ur stomach and give you food poisoning.

Yelp
Wow for once the reviews did not disappoint! This is a no frills hit-the-SPOT Italian restaurant. You order at the counter and they give you a number. The great thing about this place is you can order their pizza by the slice so you can leave room for other things on their menu. The portions are extremely generous compared to what other Italian restaurants give you nowadays. I hope this place continue their way of doing business because I'll be coming back for as long as I'm a NJ resident.

Yelp
This is certainly a hidden gem in Jersey city . The food there is so good I think we ate a little to much . Place is very warm and cozy and the drinks are great , specially the lemon drop one ( kind of a dessert drink if you eats to much and can't have cake haha !! Service is excellent , our server Martin was very attentive and efficient . Can't wait to go back in a few weeks . If you are in the area and need some great food , make sure to stop by .!!

Yelp
Location is nice, has a very hip-hop feel to it with the wall art, one of the most spacious pizzerias I've ever been in. The pizza is really good, nice sauce and no over-burnt crust. My only issue with this pizzeria is the service is meh. I've eaten take out here several times and always have had the delivery guy be very respectful and nice. The restaurant experience just leaves for more to be desired but then again, this is a pizzeria. 4 stars feels right.

Yelp
It's not even in regards to the food it's a great place whoever the front receptionist is she is very rude. When you call to give her information she has an attitude she is all over the place when you call. She gave an attitude when I said $5 for the delivery I could tip. She questioned me if I'm sure only $5. Also told me " it's far" when were in jersey city it is not far. Anytime I call always an attitude and it's the same exact lady.
