Renegade Urban Winery Walthamstow - Review - Walthamstow - London - The Infatuation

"Renegade Urban Winery is at its best on a Sunday. Plates that can barely contain hunks of roast beef make their way, at a leisurely pace, to groups—think grandparents wrangling toddlers who’ve decided to play hide-and-seek behind the potted plants—and couples who’ve chosen to drift into Monday without dirty dishes and gravy-making looming over them. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna This bar-meets-winery is on a Walthamstow industrial estate populated by taprooms and bakery hatches. The dining room is up on the mezzanine, above the production space, but you can still peek at the barrels and hulking steel wine drums. The weekday menu, which changes often, is hit and miss. It's made up of middling-to-good small plates that flit from char siu skewers to baba ganoush and focaccia. Stick to Sundays, when the twinkle from a string of fairy lights, Big Group Energy, and skin contact Riesling do wonders for warding off Monday scaries. Food Rundown photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Roast Beef Rump This is a solid roast. Expect a generous serving of thickly cut beef, pillowy yorkshire puddings, and a big umami hit from the glug of gravy. The meat could be a little more tender, though. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Pork Belly The fat and crackling on this pork belly are delicious, but you shouldn’t be picking through them to find some meat. It’s a very stingy portion. video credit: Sinéad Cranna Seasonal Veg Vegetables come with every roast and are a perfectly OK mix of roasted carrots, red cabbage, and a medley of greens. It’s fine, but we wish a bit more care had been taken to make the sides something special. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Cauliflower Cheese The cauliflower cheese is extra but it’s absolutely worth having on your table. The cheese sauce is creamy and thick enough to stick to every floret, and the top has a nice crispy crust to it." - Sinéad Cranna

We came for a bite and were pleasantly surprised by the place. The set up is really cool and with a nice mezzanine at the top where you can order wine and food. I saw some people were doing a wine tasting too. We ordered the artichoke, foccacia, olives, aubergine. All was really good but the foccacia was a bit dry. Though I thought the food was a bit pricey. It's a place i would see myself coming back with friends to chill. There is also a terrace outside which is very nice for summer.

As wine lovers it was probably just a matter of time before we came here. The location is really great with the barrels downstairs and the industrial vibes. Nothing not to love. We enjoyed two delicious Sunday roasts with beef. The potatoes were so nice but under salted. It’s not the same salting potatoes once they are done, the salt needs to be integrated in the cooking process. It’s like a whole different flavour. But enough about the potatoes, the food was still a 5. 🙂The service a little chaotic but friendly. A few words about the wine ‘experience’ itself: in a place like this you would expect the staff to explain the wines at least a little and reasonable prices for the tasting flights. Isn’t the idea to have a taste and maybe buy a bottle or two? We found the flights were a bit overpriced with £24 for 4 small glasses. Overall a fun place!

The best roast we've had in years, excellent wine and lovely staff. Can't wait to come back again.

30 degrees and only roast dinners on the menu. Very tough dry beef. Not prepared for summer. Maybe some salads, seafood, and light meals would help. They say that they are a kitchen ,but to be limited to 3 items is not great. We didn't try the wine experience, which could be amazing for all I know. Food was not good. Very dry, tiny amount of overly salty gravy. Got about 2 mouthfulls of juice for £4. Expensive like everywhere else in London. They must succeed on people who are keen on the wine. The food is an afterthought. Service was good from waiter.

This is a real gem of a place. Friendly, attentive staff and comfortable surroundings. Innovative food menu, expertly executed. The wines on offer aren't cheap but are very much worth the money. Some genuinely different and tasty wines on offer. Best venue on the beer mile imho. 9/10 would recommend.

Came for a Friday evening meal, to try out this new promising place which is a fantastic addition to our neighborhood. The venue is impressive once upstairs. A "craft beer style" warehouse with ambient light, and nice crowd of people. The food was fantastic, the artichokes were chargrilled to absolute perfection. Served on bed of mixed grain, "barley style risotto" this was a very well crafted combination. Puddings were quite experimental, high quality chocolate mousse and olive oil and coffee and smoked chestnut, we both really enjoyed them, what more would you want on a Friday evening. Well yes one thing missing, was the front of the house manager's polite and welcoming attitude. We assume she was the manger as she was dressed differently to the rest of the staff and had a very domineering attitude. Between forcing us to the bar area at first, for no reason despite our request, and later telling me something to the tune of "I'm well know for my mind reading skills but you still need to tell me what your order is" when debating my menu choice, my experience of the evening was quite ruined despite the food and other staff being wonderful. Nobody needs this attitude on a Friday evening. It could have been just me, you never know. So don't be put off by it ☺️ the food truly is amazing!

Oh my giddy aunt, this winery is a proper hidden gem. So quirky. The staff are so friendly Emma and TJ helped us choose our wine. We had Marc and the crystal. We had a restaurant booked so didn’t eat here, but definitely coming back for moules & frites, live music on a Thursday and the Sunday roast. You won’t be disappointed if you pay them a visit.

You can for wine in the place where they make it. Vefy pleasant place and staff very friendly. Also they kitchen that provide very good food. You can sit in our out especially on nice weather day. If you are good and regular to the place they might name one of their wine after with your photo. Also you csn go round to see the procedure of wine production. It is located in a very nice quiet area of London sounded by interested places. Very worth going there
