Renegade Urban Winery Walthamstow - Review - Walthamstow - London - The Infatuation

"Renegade Urban Winery is at its best on a Sunday. Plates that can barely contain hunks of roast beef make their way, at a leisurely pace, to groups—think grandparents wrangling toddlers who’ve decided to play hide-and-seek behind the potted plants—and couples who’ve chosen to drift into Monday without dirty dishes and gravy-making looming over them. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna This bar-meets-winery is on a Walthamstow industrial estate populated by taprooms and bakery hatches. The dining room is up on the mezzanine, above the production space, but you can still peek at the barrels and hulking steel wine drums. The weekday menu, which changes often, is hit and miss. It's made up of middling-to-good small plates that flit from char siu skewers to baba ganoush and focaccia. Stick to Sundays, when the twinkle from a string of fairy lights, Big Group Energy, and skin contact Riesling do wonders for warding off Monday scaries. Food Rundown Roast Beef Rump This is a solid roast. Expect a generous serving of thickly cut beef, pillowy yorkshire puddings, and a big umami hit from the glug of gravy. The meat could be a little more tender, though. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Pork Belly The fat and crackling on this pork belly are delicious, but you shouldn’t be picking through them to find some meat. It’s a very stingy portion. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Seasonal Veg Vegetables come with every roast and are a perfectly OK mix of roasted carrots, red cabbage, and a medley of greens. It’s fine, but we wish a bit more care had been taken to make the sides something special. The cheese sauce is creamy and thick enough to stick to every floret, and the top has a nice crispy crust to it. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna
