The Best Restaurants in the Eastside of King County | Eater Seattle

"Renton Deli opened in January 2020 on Sunset Boulevard to serve Vietnamese classics like satiny banh cuon (minced pork and wood ear mushrooms wrapped in a tapioca and rice flour crepe) and tender nem cuon (grilled pork sausage and herb spring roll), slices of cha lua sausage, and briney bun rieu (soup). The hot case, full of steamed and fried delights, empties quickly with the regular stream of customers flowing through the deli. The surrounding area is also full of culinary heavyweights: El Recreo next door serves quesadillas de huitlacoche and robust churros (birria on the weekends, too) and Viet-Wah market up the street has more Vietnamese food to explore. Renton Deli is open for takeout only." - Brett Bankson

Google
Great little Vietnamese deli in the Renton Highlands that offers some of the Vietnamese deli staples such as: banh mi, ca phe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee), different types of rolls (fresh or fried) and even some noodle soup options. Their banh cuon is my go to and i usually combo it with a blended Viet coffee.

Google
Renton Deli 🤩 Why did it take me so long to find you?? I’ve ordered banh mi from here more times than I can count. I always get the one with all the cold cuts because I love the pate, yum. I like to survey what other deli offerings they have on the counter because none of them ever miss. I also always go to them for a tray of eggrolls or spring rolls for my parties. They need at least 1 day notice. Quality is always on point!

Everything was really nice and standard as expected from a Vietnamese deli! While the food was pretty standard, which still means good as it’s a Vietnamese deli and you can hardly go wrong with anything. However, the main star of the show is the great and friendly service along with the speed. As well as the AMAZING prices. By amazing, we are talking $4 for good teas which would be more expensive to other places. As this is a deli though, it isn’t amazing but it certainly is fine and tasty. I ordered a pate chaud and they had it out right then and there as well with my thai tea which was pretty alright! Pate chaud was crispy and brown, I don’t believe it was fresh as it was the last one they had but it was warm and still yummy. VERY cheap too. Thai tea was solid, no standard black tapioca but it was good. Also very cheap!! Everything was fine, I don’t have any critiques. Renton could really used a small Vietnamese deli and while this isn’t the best, it certainly will do! Come here for cheap and standard Vietnamese food that you can hardly ever go wrong with. Will definitely be coming here again! There is no indoor dining by the way, just takeout at least from what I saw.

Used to be REGULARS here, and order 2-3 times a week. The shrimp fresh rolls are amazing. Although, I was a bit taken aback when I noticed they kept them room temperature on the counter. But sometimes, most times they were made fresh so this wasn’t an issue. However, last time ordering, my husband freaked out, and almost choked on a piece of plastic. I’m really glad he spat it out! This is a major hazard and completely unacceptable. We haven’t returned since. Also, their hours and availability are way too limited. Lastly, the egg rolls I finally ordered one time from their case, were hard, dry, gross, and inedible. Bahn mi wasn’t that great either. The shrimp fresh rolls were the best thing here, but hygiene and food safety is a big deal to me.

Google
I gave them 5 stars becuase the customer service was friendly and their food tasted fresh! However, I wish they added more seasoning to their banh mi and fried eggrolls. The banh mi's are made fresh to order with lively cilantro and extra crispy baguette. The spring rolls have a crunchy center and it comes with PLENTY of dipping sauce. The suace has a hint of coconut. This place definitely has potential. Wish they added just a dash more of seasoning salts to fried egg roll and banh mi. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and will definitely come back to try their vermicelli bowls!

Having more global good choices is always good, and Renton Deli is a fine example. The storefront is unassuming but the food is great. I would recommend a visit if you want a quick bite.

Google
Fantastic pork bahn mi, didn’t have to wait more than 5 minutes. Great prices, unfortunately no indoor seating(not really a con)

Google
Service was friendly, the sandwich was delicious! Very simple on the inside which is perfect for a grab and go sandwich shop. I can't wait to go back and try the Vietnamese cake! Yumm!

Yelp
I ordered a grilled pork Bahn Mi to go from the car phone en route less than 10 minutes before arriving at noon or so and it was ready with a friendly face! It was really moist flavorful pork and all the veggies were fresh and tasty. Just the right amount of spread. It was a bit rich and I struggled to finish it. Perhaps a little expensive but well worth it. They also sell Bahn Bao individually and in four packs in the fridge. If I'd brought a cooler I would have taken some for home later. Next time! I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Tried their grilled pork sandwich and was very pleased. Very tasty. I asked for pate as an add on Will definitely go back again!

Yelp
I've seen this place and I live in the neighborhood and I felt like having a sandwich so I looked them up on yelp and realized that they are not a deli. They are more of a Bon me sandwich shop. I could see where the sign Renton deli would work if I was in Vietnam, but I'm not so I thought it was like a subway . There are no tables inside just a bench and some deli cases and have a very small limited menu. I ordered the pork bun me and a Vietnamese tea. The sandwich was amazing, and what do you ask makes it amazing. The bread was fresh. The cucumber was fresh and crisp plenty of meat. The cilantro was fresh not wilted so even with a small menu they seem to do what they're doing right the tea was very good. I would definitely return to this restaurant. I think it cost me like $15 for the sandwich and the tea.

Yelp
Found another bánh mì joint and it's right where I live. Wish bánh mì can be everywhere! Had the grilled pork sausage bánh mì here and it's fire!!!! Plenty of protein and full with all the essential ingredients. Also love their bánh cuốn here!!!

Yelp
I just have to write another review! Came in and there was no more bahn Cuon, but they came out with fresh batch in about 5 minutes! So good and service is great!! I'm glad the clerk told me to wait for the fresh bahn Cuon, made my day! Oh, don't forget to pick up the desserts here too!

Yelp
Our little secret spot for great authentic Vietnamese Deli foods on the Eastside! We discovered this place during the start of Covid and have been hooked ever since! They have delicious Banh Mi's and you don't have to venture into Chinatown. They have their own parking lot and super friendly staff. They also do catering and provide party trays, perfect for your next gathering. We've ordered the rice rolls, fried rice, spring roll & egg roll party trays! They all range in price but are around $50 each. Some of our favorite are B2 Grilled Pork Banh Mi and the fresh spring rolls! The spring rolls are huge, come with shrimp, meat & side of peanut sauce. We also really love the grilled pork vermicelli noodle bowl. The portion of the vermicelli noodle bowl is huge and perfect for sharing! We always come here to pick up a quick lunch or if we need something last min for dinner, thank goodness they are only located a few mins away from our house. Will love supporting this small business and always recommend to our friends & fam!

Yelp
Good sandwiches. Recommend the grilled pork and the fresh rolls. Prices on everything have gone up quite a bit

Yelp
This is a well-priced option on the east side for Vietnamese food. I ordered an egg roll and the grilled pork banh mi. The egg roll was on the smaller side but it was fried well and flavorful. The banh mi was good sized, fresh and tasty, but the baguette was a little dry. Overall, a great option if you aren't able to go into Seattle!

Yelp
Renton Deli on Sunset Blvd, up the hill via Exit 5, does a breezy business of takeouts - only takeouts. They keep their menu simple and focused - noodle dishes, banh mi, and several deli items. The service is courteous. The banh mi came out in maybe 7 minutes. The interior has a counter, a couple of fridges, a display case for deli items, and two benches as the waiting area. A mural is the only deco. The business must be doing well given their hours are fairly short, close at 5 daily, closed on Sundays. Good for them! We each ordered a banh mi - B2 grilled pork for $7.50 and B6 tofu for $6.50. The pork is well marinated while the tofu is seasoned with just a touch of sweetness from the sauce. Both are well stuffed with pickled veggies and are delicious. Thumbs up for both. We would definitely order again if we are in the area and they are open.

Yelp
What's not to love about a salad/spring roll? Healthy, fresh, and cheaper than hamburger...uh not quite. For $7, you can have 2 spring rolls with sauce. It's alright. The place is sterilizingly clean with its white walls and shiny surfaces. Never had their drink before. Maybe I'll try it one day

Yelp
Had Renton Deli on my list for some time, but usually pass by after they close, or after I've already eaten. The other day was in the mood for bahn mi while in Downtown Renton & the light bulb clicked on! Made my way up the hill and picked up a couple of sandwiches and fresh spring rolls. Everything hit the spot with appropriate flavors and textures. Good prices in modern times. My favorite bahn mi is the Grilled Pork, B2. Have tried the Shredded Chicken B3 & the Special Ham B1 as well. Lots more on the menu to try.

Yelp
Such a good banh mi! I got the grilled pork one and it was superb! All of my Yelp searches kept leading me back to Renton Deli. Good for lunch, good for pickup, must try and overall a really good sandwich. I shared one this time but I recommend getting your own even if you're not too hungry. As soon as I finished it, I was full and extremely happy but a few minutes later I wished I had gotten another one for later, its so good! The roll was perfectly crispy and crunched loudly. I loved the flavor combos in this sandwich, sweet, spicy, and very savory. I even loved the spice of the jalapenos, normally I would just try one jalapeno and be good but the sweetness of this sandwich really complimented a spicier bite. I also split a vietnames coffee and I'm glad I did because these have a kick! I got mine regular this time (get an extra splash of milk unless you like darker coffee) and it was really good. I love that as dark and strong as this drink is, the condensed milk really sweetens it up. A banh mi and viet coffee is definitely a match made in heaven and I loved the convenience of this Deli!

Yelp
Found this one via Yelp. My coworker had never had these kind of sandwiches and we were starving so we stopped in here. My favorite thing to do when sliding into a new spot is ordering the favorite of the workers there so I had them give me the recommendation. In a small shop like this, I always goes over well. In a large chain style, if I take the recommendation and it is a high priced meal, they typically are just up selling me. So I got the popular sandwich and went to town. From ordering to food coming out, it was about 5 minutes. We hit the road with our sandwiches. My favorite part is the bread. It is super crusty on the outside and pillowy soft in the middle. The veggies were nice and crispy. The jalapeños were spicy as all get out (I love that!) It was an amazing sandwich. Hands down. My coworker loved his. He said that I just gave him his new favorite sandwich. Stop in and grab a sandwich.....or three. They will not disappoint!

Christina L.

Yelp
The winner here is the banh cuon and their fresh cha lua/gio lua (I buy it on its own to add to noodles at home), etc... The banh mi is okay, could be better. Also, if you have allergies, be careful if you ask for modifications because today I ordered a Grilled Pork Sandwich without jalapenos, extra carrots and extra pate. The only correct modification was the extra pate, even though the lady responded "OK" to removing jalapenos and adding carrots as well. Spring rolls are just okay only too. Pretty basic and the sauce could be better. Need to try their hot noodle dishes one day but for now I'll stick to Banh Cuon.

Yelp
Surprise and delight! Been meaning to try this and it was a unique spin on some of our favorite Asian deli items. The Bao bun had a great dough flavor and the egg inside took us by surprise. We were equally surprised by the crunch inside the spring rolls. Definitely worth a try and being right by the new Sunset Neighborhood Park, I could see it make it the perfect lunch at the park on a summer day!

Thanhquyen N.

Yelp
Darn! I came late and got the yogurt and waffles. Most of the deli food was gone. The yogurt and waffles were delicious!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
what can i say that hasn't already been said. if you're reading this and haven't stopped by yet, this is your sign to go. drop everything and go now! I make an effort every time i'm in the area to stop by here. The grilled sausage spring rolls with the fish sauce is my GOTO! even ordered catering for my daughters birthday so i can share the deliciousness with my friends and family.
google avatar

Jeanine O.

Yelp
Best Bahn mi in Renton! Sandwiches are large enough to share or for a hungry appetite. There's always coffee and fresh rolls if you're looking for something lighter.
google avatar

Gina H.

Yelp
Decided to check out this place Friday afternoon and got banh mi and spring rolls to go. Inside the store is super clean and organized. There were so many pre-orders which is probably a good sign that this place is good. The front cashier was super friendly and my order was freshly made within reasonable wait time. Spring rolls - very generous size/portion and flavor was fresh and good. I didnt care for the peanut sauce but not a big deal. It was good without any sauce added. Bahn mi - the grilled pork is on the sweet side but it balances well with spicy jalapeño, pickled carrots and fresh cilantro. Definitely plan to go back and try other items.
google avatar

Jboogie L.

Yelp
Not bad for $8 if you wanted a banh mi. They say they take 15 minutes to make a banh mi. Really? It wasn't even that busy. The roll could be a bit crispier. Pate, mayo, soy sauce just right. The pickled daikon and carrots could of been loaded on but it was a bit skimpy. There is not sit down area; you take and leave type of place. It's nice to know it's here though.
google avatar

Yelp
I was really craving something fresh for lunch, and thought this place looks good upon walking in, we were welcomed and made me feel great that I'm supporting a local business. The summer rolls WERE SO GOOD! It was a good price for the size as well. The sand which was okay, I wouldn't get it again. The liver patè caught me by surprise and I ended up scraping it off. Maybe I would try again but not the one I got. I'll be back for summer rolls though, and to try all the desserts.
google avatar

Debra W.

Yelp
Simple yet delightful. Quick and great customer service. Always clean. This place delivers on good eats that you can take to go. There is no dine in option. The banh cuon here has me hooked. It's always fresh and delectable. The pork and wood ear mushroom mixture is perfectly cooked. The assorted herbs and bean sprouts are always fresh in the dish. The ham are big meaty pieces. Seriously, everything here is good. And if they sell out, they sell out. I'm normally not a fan of the summer rolls with shrimp and pork but they do those so good here. The shrimp is big and plump and very fresh. You can call ahead to place an order for pick up. Wait time can vary but never longer than 15-20 especially if you order soup. The soup is delightful too. Balanced and perfect flavors.

Yelp
I've tried many things here and the banh mi's are always have me coming back! Had the nem nuong banh mi last time I was here. And they're always so kind :) quick service!
google avatar

Janea N.

Yelp
If you're on the hunt for your new favorite spot for banh mi, look no further - you've found it! My husband and I have completely fallen in love with this place. The sandwiches here are absolutely delicious. Since it's a deli with a walk-up counter and no seating available, there's not much to say about ambiance or service, but that's exactly what we expected. Just be prepared to grab your meal and go. Personally, I'll be returning here anytime I don't feel like making banh mi at home. It's that good!
google avatar

Huong N.

Yelp
I've had food from here twice now! Once catered by a friend for his event and then a second time just now. Both delicious both times! I had a chicken banh mi and tofu goi cuon. I loved that I enjoyed the goi cuon without needing dipping sauce and that they used thin rice noodles, I've never seen that done. I put a banh mi in the fridge and had it cold, and thought it was even more delicious cold. Go check this place out!

P W.

Yelp
First time we stopped by here thinking we would get some deli sandwiches, but it turn out to be Vietnamese food. All the better, as they serve Bahn mi, buns and noodle soups and other Vietnamese foods. The bun only comes with grilled pork and spring rolls, but with plenty of noodles and fresh veggies. Looking forward to trying the Bun Rieu and some of their other soups.
google avatar

Tristy C.

Yelp
I used to really like this place when it first started, but since recent months not only the price went up like crazy since the inflation, but also being dishonest with their customers. My favorite go to items were their Banh Cuon, Classic banh mi, and mixed flavors jelly pudding. About 4 months ago, the jelly price was still 7.50/box, but yesterday visiting the Deli again the price went up to $10/box (so was everything else, approx. 25% on all items) I accepted the price knowing it wasn't worth it BUT when I got home the jelly was not a well mixed flavors, on the top layer they give you a few different flavors, but at the bottom is all coffee!!! I feel tricked. I am NEVER coming back...

Yelp
We tried this place for the first time two weeks ago. We had heard positive things about it and we were not disappointed. The dishes we ordered were fresh and delicious. The portions were generous and not overly salty. They also have these fab desserts made on Fridays and Saturdays. Notes: They close by five o'clock and are closed on Mondays. Their bathroom was out of service when we were there, but it's a takeout restaurant anyway.

Anna Z.

Yelp
I use to love this place, I've consistently been coming here since they opened, unfortunately the past couple of times, I feel like the sandwiches are lacking flavor, also they use to toast the sandwiches so there are fresh and warm... the past few times it's been stone cold... and to be honest it tastes like they are being assembled ahead of time because it's done without wait time.

C A.

Yelp
I would give them a full 5 stars as we love their attentiveness, friendliness, and their yummy spring rolls. However, their health rating declined from "good" to "okay", which is quite concerning. I'd prefer my establishments I frequent to have an "excellent" food safety rating. "Good" is pushing it. This makes me sad. Otherwise excellent spring rolls.
google avatar

Jonie L.

Yelp
Renton Deli is a great Vietnamese grab and go place. I've come by a few times now the past year and have loved picking up their spring rolls. Their spring rolls are so addicting! They're $6ish for two - a good portion and always fresh. Honestly though, I don't know how they compare to other places since I don't get them anywhere else in the area... so if anyone knows of a better place, please let me know! Their menu is bigger than just spring rolls though - they have noodles (dry and soup), banh mi (sandwiches), and other deli items too. I definitely want to try their vermicelli bowl and grilled pork banh mi sometime. So glad I discovered Renton Deli for convenient, fresh Vietnamese food!
google avatar

My-Linh T.

Yelp
Delicious food, but too limited. Looking forward to more hot items on the menu for walking in, not bulk orders.
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
Favorite place around. We try to go here weekly. Staff always very friendly and food is fantastic.
google avatar

Yelp
Pork bahn mi sandwiches are the best! And they toast them too. Just the perfect amount of spice.

Yelp
Was super excited to find this place fairly near my house in Issaquah. We find that asian and especially, good Vietnamese options are very limited in Issy. It's great to have this deli under 20min away and not have to hassle with going in to Seattle for deli food. So far we Have had the banh cuon and the banh bot loc and both have been excellent. I love that you can order the banh cuon by the pound and it's freshly made and includes steamed sprouts, herbs, nuoc cham and fried shallots. Their nuoc cham is also very flavorful compared to versions I've had elsewhere. Banh bot loc was also great and very fresh. I'm kicking myself for not grabbing a banh mi but was so focused on the banh cuon that I didn't think to order one. Next time for sure.
google avatar

Sara V.

Yelp
My favorite Vietnamese sandwich place in the Seattle area! I always get Banh-Mi sandwiches here. They have a lot of fresh desserts and drinks, too. If you call ahead, they'll usually have their sandwiches made within 15 minutes. I highly recommend Renton Deli. Their sandwiches used to be a dollar ish less but I understand they had to raise their prices due to the economy and also probably because the surrounding area is booming with new businesses opening up. As for their covid rules, everyone (including patrons) has worn a mask every time I've entered. I feel safe getting food here and enjoy supporting local businesses.
google avatar

Long K.

Yelp
Admittedly I've been on a banh mi binge over the last several weeks and made a stop to this relatively new spot in the Renton Highlands. The banh mi variety is limited, but adequately priced. The bread is fresh with a good abundance of meat and pickled veggies. My only gripe is the really thick cut cucumber. The dac biet (special) banh mi flavor was on point. Their heo nuong (grilled pork) banh mi was good, but a bit soy sauce heavy; I'd love to see a thit nuong banh mi though. As far as deli offerings go, it's more limited than International District delis. They do have egg rolls (unfortunately ran out despite our reasonably early weekend lunch visit), rice rolls, summer rolls, and some cold desserts in the display. There is a special counter menu where you can order the likes of vermicelli dishes too. Hopefully as they get more popular, they can offer more options. Nevertheless a place you can swing by for a quick fix without traveling into Seattle.

M C.

Yelp
Excellent and fresh Banh Mi. Thank you for serving fresh food Try them out, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Atticus S.

Yelp
Food was really good. I had the chicken and the grilled pork. Chicken wasn't dry but it was a little greasy. Grilled pork had a great flavor. Watch out for the raw Jalapeño, I like mine cut a little thinner so the heat has a little better transition from bight to bight. Service was quick, wasn't too busy and took about 7 minutes to get my food.
google avatar

Krystal L.

Yelp
YALL! I've been here 4x since their grand opening and I've gotta day for Renton, this is a good sub deli. The lady is so nice... when I came the first time I wanted to try the Vietnamese subs but they sold out of all of them and she gave me a discount on the noodles on the counter instead! I've tried the shredded chicken and the pork sandwiches so far because almost everytime I've came, they were sold out of everything or didn't have their inventory yet (still new so I get it). But it was a bit frustrating as the customer. They have an egg roll stand and MY GAH it's bomb. I wish they had the sauce so I could dip the egg rolls in it but with or without the sauce the egg rolls are still toasty and bomb! I would definitely get the egg rolls catered. I want to try the cakes theyy have in their case... eventually.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
The Bahn-mi is fantastic. I personally prefer the pork. But all are good. The ingredients are really fresh.
google avatar

Alvin L.

Yelp
Fairly new Vietnamese deli in the highlands. Operationally still getting up to speed but the people here are extremely friendly and the food is two thumbs up. If you are looking for recommendations I would order 1) Vietnamese ice coffee (creamy, refreshing, cold and strong) probably one of the best, 2) Combo Sandwich which comes on a French baguette and filled with sliced cold cut meats, pate, veggies, and peppers which add a nice spice if you like spice 3) if you're craving dessert - try the coconut jello which is made w coconut water and meat (if you're unsure see if they will give you a sample). Lots of other deli / lunch foods as well that is pre-made and ready to go. They don't leave a lot of food out they and will remake fresh when the supply runs out which is great. Been here a couple of times since the grand opening and plan on coming back. Nice addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Ever since this place opened up we get our Banh-Mi Sandwiches from here. Always fresh and always delicious! ( Even when you eat it the next day!) the menu board on the wall has grown and the specials like Crab Soup they have on the counter is awesome! We always get the Goi Cuon Tom Thit Nguoi or simply fresh shrimp roll with pork! Yummy and delicious! Did I mention a Crab Soup! Bun Rien! Crab and pork with a tomato base soup! Delicious when served hot! Yes on a hot day as well. Then our usuals....Pork Banh Mi and Chix Banh Mi! I love mine with extra, extra jalapeños! Oh my!!! I will adventure more into their menu because seems like it's growing which is great because variety is the spice of life! Yes I recommend this place. Friendly, fast and delicious! All around yummy and some goodness eats! Give it a try and if don't like it at least you've tried this awesome deli! Go Banh Mi!!!
google avatar

Vivian H.

Yelp
Best spot to get banh mi and banh cuon! So rare to find a place that sells banh cuon, and the rolls were thick and generous with filling. I literally dream of this place, no kidding. Also Vietnamese grandparents approved! The staff are also nice. Place a phone order to pickup stuff without a wait!
google avatar

Sandra N.

Yelp
great little shop owned by a small family! my friend lives near here and said it's her go-to when they're lazy to cook. I got the #2 banh mi and really enjoyed it. had a decent amount of meat and standard true viet sandwich
google avatar

Elle N.

Yelp
Great menu, great prices and great service! Would recommend but come early as food is made fresh daily so when it's gone, it's gone.
google avatar

Chi D.

Yelp
Probably my favorite banh mi place around. After trying lots of places in Renton and the East side, I have to say this little shop is the best. Their banh mi dac biet (special combo / cold cuts) is SO GOOD. Generous amount of cold cuts, perfect amount of pate and mayo, tasty pickles, and the cilantro and cucumber is always fresh. Price is super reasonable. I also love their pate chaud. First time I ordered it, I basically inhaled the whole thing in the car and wish I'd ordered more than one. They have other food items too, as well as drinks, but I've never tried them. I get too distracted by the banh mi. They accept cards, and they normally have food ready pretty promptly. You can also call ahead with your order if you want it ready when you show up.

Yelp
There b2 sandwich is amazing. Made with fresh French bread. There coffee is also very delicious. I love stopping here for lunch beacause they are always so fast. If you're ever near this spot, give this place a try.
