Westlake Brewery Strange Land Moves Into Georgetown Brewery Space | Eater Austin

"Founded in 2015 by father and son inspired by German biergartens, this brewery operates from a Georgetown facility at 2500 NE Inner Loop that it now shares with Strange Land. Fully powered by renewable energy, the operation includes a shared production facility and tap room plus a 5,000-square-foot beer garden that hosts weekend food trucks; Greenbelt Kombucha is produced on-site, which led to the partnership with Strange Land. The taproom is open Wed–Thu 4–10 p.m., Fri–Sat noon–10 p.m., and Sun noon–8 p.m." - Erin Russell

Rentsch Brewery

Review I.

Google
Rentsch is a family friendly brewery with plenty of open space inside and out. Food trucks are usually available and vary from cheesesteaks to yummy dessert treats. We’ve been here many times for the music trivia bingo, good times and fun prizes, even the kids can play. The back area outside is enclosed and spacious with lots of shade and seating. We love hanging on the patio because it has shaded benches or open areas if the weather is nice. They have heaters for the cold nights, too. The beer is always great, many selections are on tap at all times and they have special releases as well. You can get light Pilsner style, Irish dry stouts, Belgians, IPA, barley wine, Hefeweizen, or red ales. They are all pretty tasty. Sodas and other non-alcoholic drinks are available as well. There’s a cool ceramic mug collection for the members, sadly I missed out on this offer. This place should be a staple in your Georgetown brewery rotation.

Google
A really nice set up with a good sized indoor seating area and a large outdoor area to enjoy a flight and some food from one of the food trucks that is always in hand. The beers are well made and the people are very friendly. If you want to geek out and talk about brewing this is a great place to rap with the brewer and drink a beer.

Google
A nice brewery tucked in an industrial complex in Georgetown. The garden is lovely with a massive oak tree which gives a lot of shade. There is plenty of seating in and out. They sometimes have live music playing - usually a guitarist. This brewery is kids and pet friendly. There is also a food truck (check the schedule online); this brewery doesn’t serve food. Matt, the barman, is always friendly and knowledgeable about their beers. Brilliant on a sunny day!

Google
Great staff and great taps! 15 on right now, including stouts, gose, shandy and a great nutty brown ale! Can’t beat the patio views, food trucks and dog friendly (and family friendly) atmosphere! Monthly they have music bingo on Fridays which is always a great crowd to end the work week. Highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed!

I'm not a beer drinker and I even enjoyed the beer here! I really enjoyed the Vanilla Lager & GTX Light. My husband loved mine and his Headless Gentleman & Hefeweizen. Our bartender was extremely kind and knowledgeable! This is also a great place to catch the sunset.

Google
Lots of space indoor and out, food trucks often, lots of draft beers. Great hangout.

Google
Interesting and tasty beers. I came in with my husband to do a beer each but decided to stay longer to enjoy the ambience. The patio set up is the best and my puppy loved taking a stroll around. Bartender Matt gives the best beer suggestions- try mixing the “vanilla black lager” and “nutty professor” for a delicious coffee mixed Guinness sorta beer; you will be surprised on how good it tastes (for dark beer lovers). The peach hefe, Mexican lager and pineapple gtx tasted great as well. The Mexican food truck had many appes to compliment the beer.

Google
Great place and awesome beer offerings. Texas lager is a must try. Food truck on site was great as well Definitely coming back.

Yelp
How can you not enjoy delicious craft beer - emphasize craft - cool service people and a beautiful location less than ten minutes form the Square? My God, I can't. My biggest problem with Rentsch is that they're only open 5 days a week. Do yourself a favor; do your friends a favor; do your wife or girlfriend a favor and get over here and taste the best beer brewed in Georgetown, Texas. Take the fam - there were just about as many kids as adults this past Sunday - and learn what its like to have a few brews in a beer garden where everyone is relaxed, safe and happy. You're welcome.

Yelp
All I know is that I'm going to be back here pretty soon! What a great time I had. Super nice friendly staff, very helpful. I played darts with my son and enjoyed a vanilla Texas lager. The food trucks outside changed every day so you can have variety. Also, live music on the weekends. Amd super chilled atmosphere. Thos made it to my list of favs.

Yelp
Great staff, great atmosphere, and the beer is great. Thy have game nights throughout the week. Patio outside and nice seating inside. You can see the Brewery from the inside which is really neat as well. Good place to have a drink and just mingle with people from all over. I had the Apple Strudel beer...very good.

Yelp
Went here around Halloween and they couldn't have been nicer or given better service. The beer was great (we got flights to try a few each and I think my favorite was Red Poppy). They had a perfect patio setup too, we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
We recently hosted our rodeo association meeting here. The brewery is a little off the beaten path, but don't let that throw you. The beers here are excellent, and the owner took great care of us. The Cherry Poppy, an Irish red ale, and their Dark Knight Rises Porter were especially memorable. They were so accommodating and let us have our meeting in the side room where it was a little quieter. There's a great outdoor space for summertime as well. While they don't serve food they do bring in trucks and on this date they had gyros that were quite tasty. Overall, a great little place for an adult beverage and well worth the trip. Highly recommended.

Yelp
If you live in Georgetown or even San Antonio, this is the place to go! Not only is the beer selection here on point, but the beer garden is as good as it gets for central Texas spot! You won't find better bartenders, especially since it's the owner and everybody here always greets us with a smile and beer! They have rotating food trucks, live music and events on a regular basis so be sure to check their website. Family friendly spot and you can also bring your pets love the vibe. This place gives every time we come!

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place, wish we spent more time here. I think the manager helped us select our beer- very knowledgeable and let us try some samples. Everything tasted delicious. We sat outside and it was a nice little area. I'd hangout there for a couple hours with friends. They have some games outside also. TVs inside. The taco truck is also tasty. Looking forward to coming back!
google avatar

Scott R.

Yelp
Waited an hour for a burger and they "sold out" right in front of us. There wasn't many people in front of us did they only bring 50 patties?
google avatar

Yelp
Favorite brewery in the Austin area. It's not the biggest but that quaintness lends to charm. It is more peaceful and quite than other breweries in the area. The lines to get a drink aren't ridiculous and the giant tree outside provides ample shade for the picnic tables and games. My sister's and my favorite beer was Rojo, which is a Berliner weisse with red soda, something I had never had before but was pleasantly surprised by. It is sweet but not overwhelmingly so and has this intense, bright red color. It was originally brewed by a now defunct brewery and Rentsch cleaned out their stock and will eventually brew it but under a different name. Grab some food from a local food truck just outside, have yourself some good brews, and call it a relaxing day.

Yelp
I love this place! Awesome beers and great atmosphere! I highly recommend them. If you like beer, you will love this place!
google avatar

Yelp
So had a fantastic Lobster Roll via Cousins Main Lobster.....the beer here is great (I'm from Wisconsin so I know a thing or two about Beer). The Ambiance is sort of "neighborhood casual" people are extremely friendly and welcoming. Great patio, but it was too hot to sit outside, but no fear the inside was nice and cool. Great place and will for sure come back!
google avatar

Alexandra L.

Yelp
You can't beat this family friendly and laid back beirgarden. My husband and I have gone to this spot for years. They have a giant old tree in the middle, I love to stare at while enjoying the patio. My kids like the yard games and playing with other kids. My favorite is they have different food trucks every night and music sometimes on the weekend. Be sure to check out the axe throwing nights. Also the German bakery next door. They recently added seltzers which I love the variety!!

Yelp
One more brewery off the bucket list, actually I don't have a bucket list, but if I did, it would be beer and food. So this brewery was in an industrial spot, right at the corner entrance of the complex. As we walked thru the gate, there was a food truck, Panini sandwiches, very good food. Once you go thru the gate, there is a covered patio, and some places to sit out from under the patio. I should have taken more pictures of the outside. It was a warm Saturday afternoon, but we were all sweaty so we sat outside in see the patio. Plenty of seating by the way. They had a small wedding on Saturday, so that was cool. Saw a small stage at the corner of the pro, so looks like they have live music. We went in. The brewery was very clean, didn't smell like old beer, so they are very clean behind the bar. The menu was small, but that's okay. There were three of us, Andy had a lager, Mike had a weisen bock, and I had the red Irish ale. I really enjoyed my ale, so we had those three first, the went back for another beer. Our bartender was very courteous and friendly. All them were. Also, very helpful with making a decision on what beer to try. So, the second beer I got, was the Rojo, and the reason I got this one, is that this beer had a different brewery name on it. The Islla Street brewery. I was taken back, because Islla street is one of my favorite breweries in San Antonio. I had heard that they were making a Big Red beer, so I waited and waited, then Covid hit, and never saw this beer materialize. Fast forward to May 6th, 2023, the one and only Rentsch brewery had Rojo beer on tap. So I asked how and why, and all I have to say is "THANK YOU, Rentsch, for keeping this beer alive." Needless to say, I bought a case, and as soon as I got home, I was kicking my self, for not buying two cases. This beer is a Berliner weisse style beer, sweet smelling and sweet tasting. I can't wait to have the guys over to try this. I love big red, like a fat boy loves cake. Plus I can't wait to make the trip up to Georgetown, Texas for more Rentsch brewery beer.

Yelp
Nice outside patio area with spots for live music , sad there wasn't any when we were there, but this place was great and we'll definitely be back again to catch some tunes ! Sampled most of the beers. Pretty good in my opinion ! The clear fave was the Rojo, as we left with a 24 pack . For 20 bucks , woulda been a fool NOT to get a case ! Was supposed to be a bbq food truck the Sunday we were there but by the time we left around 230 it still wasn't there. Not sure if it ever came but I hope it did as the brewery was very busy ! The vanilla Lager was my second favorite ! The Apple strudel was surprisingly not bad , as that usually wouldn't be something I would normally pick , and the liquid courage was.... Damn! Jim beamish or something !! We'll be back for sure!

Kate M.

Yelp
Amazing outdoor vibes, and delicious food truck to go with your drink! Service was great, and they helped my boyfriend pick out a flight that would give him a taste of beers that he would like the best. Very friendly and great atmosphere
google avatar

Gabe G.

Yelp
This place was really fun. Good beers. Nice outdoor patio area. And there was a German food truck outside that I enjoyed! Definitely recommend and right down the street from my house which was even better!
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
Nice selection of beer, friendly staff and a great big area outside for dogs and kids to roam. What's not to like
google avatar

Elise M.

Yelp
I wish I had discovered Rentsch brewery sooner. This is a great place to sit outside and enjoy the weather while sampling one of their many craft beers. They also have different visiting food trucks which makes it fun and interesting. We went for Oktoberfest and really enjoyed the German food truck and had BBQ another day. Rentsch has plenty of outdoor, shaded seating and the beer selection is impressive with lots of interesting seasonal offerings - I really enjoyed the apple streusel seasonal beer. We'll absolutely be back.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Excellent beer! All you need to know.... Good tunes, very pleasant sitting outside, relaxing with a signature brew
google avatar

Ally H.

Yelp
This place would be PERFECT on a nice day! unfortunately we went on a bit of a Rainey day, but it was still great outside (they turned the heaters on for us). Staff was helpful in picking a beer that suited our taste, and it was delicious! Wish they had their own food, but there are food trucks during certain hours!

Steve C.

Yelp
Great place to grab a beer and chill with your dog. Good variety of beers on tap, had a pastrami food truck when I was there and the food was delicious (pastrami fries). Great ambiance, nice people and a great little local hang out.
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
Cool little brewpub in Georgetown. They have two IPAs that caught my attention. Their Rentsch IPA is quite malty east coast style. Plus one had her usual lite Blonde ale and she was OK with it. She was not thrilled with the crisp finish but she did empty her pint. There is a cozy bar area with TVs and with the Temps reaching 100 degrees we chilled out there. There is also a nice beer garden with fans on the deck but even with the abundance of shade trees, it was too darn hot to be outside. Lastly, the bartenders are pleasant and knowledgeable and will provide excellent guidance if you are a newbie. They do have some interesting specialty/seasonal beers that I must go back and try. Solid 4 stars!
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
We've been several times over the years. My wife likes hoppy and I like malty beers. Unfortunately this is a place where the atmosphere outshines the beer. Great outdoor seating area which generally isn't too crowded. Very kid friendly with a large play area, which means more people bringing their kids. Service is usually good, sometimes there's live music and the patrons are generally friendly if you spark up a conversation with neighbors. We don't care to go back based solely on the quality of beer just isn't that great.
google avatar

Clayton S.

Yelp
I will preface this review with three biases. 1. I love beer 2. I love outdoor setups in Texas rural areas 3. I am a Red Raider This is was our first trip out and loved it! The beers were delicious. I had the IPA, the double IPA, and the Amber. Wife had the blonde and the Hefe. My favorite was the IPA then the Hefe and then the Double. Can't wait to go back and try more. I missed the details on the mug club, but like the concept and will have to check it out. A little far from my house so not sure if the bang is worth the buck based on my frequency. The atmosphere was fantastic. Great patio and open space areas. There was a Youngman playing cover music but there was enough space to where he didn't seem loud. There was plenty of games and we brought some toys and our kid and others had a blast running around. It was beautiful and spacious, yet plenty of space inside for when it it gets to crazy Texas temps in the summer. Only bummer was the food truck was broke down so we just ordered Dominos instead! How easy is that?! Looking forward to the next visit and recommend you check it out too
google avatar

Casey M.

Yelp
Great brewery in the country ish so perfect environment. Went here for trivia night and enjoyed a couple of delicious pints. Fantastic patio with ample seating.
google avatar

Monica W.

Yelp
We came here on Sunday to try some German beers. They have some really great beers! My favorite was the Hefeweizen. The blonde was really good also and my husband had the one up from the Hefeweizen, "hef's big brother", and it was also tasty but too heavy for me. I'm more of a wine drinker but if you like beer you'd love it. We took our two kids and they had fun being outdoors with us. We ate at the food truck and had a family Sunday funday. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Mary B.

Yelp
We love visiting local breweries and can't believe that we overlooked this gem in Georgetown for so long! They have a good variety of beer on the menu and have a really nice, relaxing outdoor space. the service is fast and friendly. They rotate food trucks so there is always something available to munch on. We had such a good experience that we decided to join the 2021 mug club. Ask about it!

Vicky E.

Yelp
Beautiful spot to spend an evening outside with friends, your dogs, kids, or all three (the back area is fully fenced in, which makes it feel cozier and quieter). Good beers and seltzers on tap, they frequently have food trucks and other vendors offering food and other goodies and also host special events like live music and trivia nights.
google avatar

Eva Maria T.

Yelp
Great local craft beer. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. The grounds are family friendly with plenty of covered outdoor seating. There is usually a guest food truck and if you follow their Facebook page they post who's coming.
google avatar

Megan P.

Yelp
Beer & board games are the catch here . Our bartender was knowledgeable and helpful with selecting beer choices. Especially since I'm not the biggest "craft-beer drinker" he suggested the blonde which was just what I was looking for. My friends had the doublerumtoberfest and rate it 10/10!! I love the open concept that makes the space seem larger than it is. We came at 1pm on A Saturday, not too many people just A few family's enjoying their day. Their patio area looks super cozy but it's too cold today so I'll be back!
google avatar

Calily B.

Yelp
When I showed up at 5 p.m. on a Saturday, I was beyond thrilled to see the crowd that I did! I think the folks in the Sun City area are thirsty for good beer and this spot is filling the void. For $10 you get 3 tokens for 3 pours + the glass. They don't even ask for 2 tokens for the Russian Imperial Stout -- that's a steal! There is seating inside the brewery and then several picnic tables outside. When we were there, there was a food truck and everyone was having a great time. The place is also dog friendly. While my boyf and I really liked their beers, their hefe and weizenbock were hoppier than the style calls for, but all the beers were clean and good. The weizenbock lacked the banana esters, tasted more like a traditional bock for me. The RIS was roasty and great! I hope more people venture out here to give Rentsch a try.

Kelly S.

Yelp
Great beer! Great venue. Super chill and delicious . We stopped by on our way into Austin and it hit the spot!

Rich M.

Yelp
Went for the Octoberfest beer. Been here several times before with great customer service. However this time when paying I changed my tip to 15% which caused the payment system to lock up. When cleared by the beer tender he mentioned something about POS being more than "point of sale". I took that as an insult for not giving a 20% tip on top of an $8 pint which is excessive in the first place. I am totally supportive of the small brewery community but when they charge as much as they do for a pint and expect a minimum of 20% tip, I have a problem with that. I guess I'm old school when it comes to tipping. I though it was based on the service provided which is pouring a pint from the tap. Not an entitlement!! I'll not return.

Yelp
I was recently in Georgetown for the 20th Anniversary Annual Meeting of the Texas Master Naturalists. I stayed in my camper at Cedar Breaks and commuted daily to the conference at the Sheraton. I was at the Sheraton from dark to dark attending classes every day but the last. The conference ended at noon, and I headed straight to Rentsch. I got a flight of beers and went outside to drink them. I was the only one there for the first twenty minutes or so. That gave me the freedom to move around from place to place. The outside area is really nice. I tried full sun areas and shaded areas. There were several bees in the area that pestered me, adding to my moves. The wind chimes were also a nice touch. I liked all of the beers I tried. But two of them were amazing. They were the Bourbon Barrel Double Oktoberfest (2017) and the Double Rumtoberfest. Believe me, if I weren't alone and responsible for my own transportation back to camp, I would have stayed and had a few more Rumtoberfests. It was everything I like in a craft beer. Georgetown was such a great to visit. I know I will be back to camp at Cedar Breaks. That obviously means that I will be back to the brewery. I only hope they have another beer as awesome as the Oktoberfest and Rumtoberfest. I am sure they are seasonal, and probably won't be on tap next time.
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Staff was welcoming and warm and offered us samples of anything we wanted to try. The outdoor patio here is amazing - tons of activities for groups, as well as plenty of seating, and a covered section with heaters and panels for when it's chilly. Good beer, good views. The only con is the parking lot needs some new paint and signage, it's difficult to tell if it's handicapped or the zone next to it or a regular spot. Not taking stats off because this is probably out of Rentsch's control
google avatar

Mando D.

Yelp
Probably one of my new favorite spots. Friendly and professional staff, great ambiance, and family friendly; but most importantly they have GREAT beer! Very unique seasonal selection and a solid selection over all. Two thumbs up!
google avatar

Terry M.

Yelp
Beer was very cold and tasted well. Nice outdoor setting. Seemed to be practicing social distancing well.

Haley F.

Yelp
The BEST place ever. Husband and I are here every week having beers and eating from the different food trucks. We always bring games to play or invite friends to spend a few hours with. They have great seating inside and outside, with covered areas and fans. A beautiful garden with trees and a nice country view surrounding the brewery. Husband and I even had a small, intimate wedding here last fall! The staff are also very kind and always put a smile on our faces. 10/10 recommend if you're just visiting or a local looking for a new spot.
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
Beer: Amazing! Location: Beautiful! Staff: Knowledgeable! Food: Different food trucks on various days of the week giving you fantastic variety. Overall, a very impressive place!
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
The actual site is great, good space inside, awesome area outside. Bartenders are super nice, cozy atmosphere.....but the beer... We only had the IPAs but man they hit my mouth hard. Just tons of malt. When most are moving toward juicy, east coast style IPAs they've gone the other way. Obviously this is a personal preference but the IPAs were virtually undrinkable for us. We just moved to Georgetown and I think it's the only game in town so hoping they make some other offerings.
google avatar

Brittany N.

Yelp
I can't believe it took us this long to head out to Rentsch! It's a great spot for a family outing. Recommend it!
google avatar

J. S.

Yelp
Great neighborhood brewery! Nothing like walking in to a place and having the Beer-isto know that I'll want "my usual," Hefeweizen. The staff is great. Food trucks, beer, a great covered patio to hang out on that's dog friendly and has a pretty view of the sunset. Great place to spend the afternoon on a warm day. I'm a regular.

Lee B.

Yelp
We love this place. The people are very friendly. However, we will not be going back. It is a dog friendly place which we are very supportive of. When you are going to have a dog friendly place then the establishment should make sure that dog poop is not laying around. We went there when it opened on a Wednesday at 4 pm and when we went to sit down there were 3 Piles of dog poop and the flies were terrible.
google avatar

Justin O.

Yelp
Great brewery in the Georgetown area! The indoor area has some long tables as well as small ones to accommodate folks. The indoor is great during these summer months, but they also have a very nice patio as well as a grassy area under some large trees that would be great after the sun goes down and during the cooler months. It's really a nice outdoor area. Their beers are very good, we tried the pale ale, hefeweizen and the light IPA. The beers are $5 for most, but you can buy 5 tokens for $20 which makes them $4 a pint, very nice deal. The staff was very nice and I enjoyed visiting with them about their beers. There was a food truck there, Krab Kingz, which was very good. They have different trucks coming in so check on the day you're going to see who's there. We'll definitely be coming back to this brewery.
google avatar

Alicia C.

Yelp
Just went to check this place out on a Saturday. I tried the blonde and the hef. Both were tasty. Nice and clean yummy smelling food truck on hand. Will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Stina B.

Yelp
My husband and I discovered this brewery over the summer and having been coming here ever since. We like Friday and Saturday nights as they have live music and a food truck to grab a bite. The beer is great and the staff has always been friendly. Lots of picnic tables outside under some nice big shade trees. We have never had trouble finding a seat. There is some seating inside as well. Kid friendly place with lots of families every time we go. They also have corn hole boards, big checkers and a tub of wood blocks for small ones. Check this place out for a casual low key evening and some great brews!
google avatar

Melanie J.

Yelp
Beautiful hill country views and delicious beer. I love the outdoor space here! The patio is dog friendly.
google avatar

Chuck G.

Yelp
Great beer and even greater staff. Kid friendly and even have snacks and drinks for the kids. What more could you want!! Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
Rough first night opening. The Radler they offer is made with their blonde and lemonade. First, the blonde was not tapped for the first hour of our visit. I ended up mixing it with their IPA while waiting for the blonde. Second, once the blonde was tapped, the lemonade tap blew out. oh and credit card merchant machine went down. All this being said, the upgrades they made to the new facility are amazing. I would suggest they should have done a soft opening. They simply were not ready for the large crowd that poured through the doors anticipating their first pour.
