"Who says fries can’t come in a salad? At this Takoma restaurant and bar roasted fingerling sweet potatoes are added to a salad with arugula, dried cranberries, dill, shaved fennel, pickled mustard seeds, and pecans, with an apple cider vinaigrette. Of course, hand-cut french fries also come served as a side on the snack menu." - Tim Ebner

We wanted an outside table but the wait was too long. We had oysters at the bar and they were tasty. We ended up inside. Menu is on the smallish side but there is a little something for everyone. I had the veggie platter my friend had the fish. It was tasty. Had brunch here also. Was busy but not too crowded they have a back deck that is partially shaded. There is street parking and parking behind the restaurant. The happy hour menu is only available at the bar during brunch. Try the biscuits!

Had a great Cinco de Mayo with my sister here. Got shrimp tacos which were amazing!! Skirt steak , very very tasty with delicious sauce & kitchen even managed to do half of it more done for us! Korean fried chicken, yummy, so tender & moist with more a seafood coating. And then we added oysters, because why not! Fresh & delicious. Julio was an INCREDIBLE bartender, always ready with another drink & s great attitude. Francisco was equally awesome, and watching him hard at work shucking oysters all night !! My 1st time here but not my last

Don’t judge a restaurant by its location. It is only out of necessity that I would venture out to Takoma Park, especially for good cuisine, when there’s plenty to enjoy in the District. Over the years, I’ve tried Republic and I wasn’t really that impressed. But on my recent visit to TPK, we checked out Republic again, keeping an open mind that perhaps they’ve gotten better. Well, they have! I only went for happy hour and the plates we ordered were delicious. We had fish tacos, pork bao, Aperol Spritz, and a margarita. I looked over to the other diners at the bar area and their foods looked amazing, too. I do like that this place has an outdoor patio that is dog-friendly. The service is good enough, but I agree with other reviewers, it could be better. I’ll definitely try this place again when I’m in TPK.

This was my first time at the Republic for dinner. The decor, music and atmosphere are inviting. Our hostess greeted us with a smile. Our server, Douglas, took great care of us. We ordered the All veggie everything, carrot salad and wood grilled Chinese broccoli. Our hats off to the chef. It was delicious!

Love the food here! Every time I've been here I have had a good time! Drinks are great, oysters are fresh, the staff is friendly, the scene is lively. If you are curious about coming here take the plunge, I bet you will find something you like!

I've been coming to Republic regularly for months now. I'm never disappointed by their high quality menu and MOST especially by their beer selections. They're now doing flights of local craft beers and have a fantastic indoor and outdoor space. Got kids? Family friendly. Gay or lesbian? They have a night. This Takoma neighborhood bar is a place you should visit. Pictured, the delicious shrimp sliders (the oyster version is also fantastique.)

Another good dining option in Takoma. Large indoor bar and dining room tables, some with plush sofas to enjoy your meal. The outdoor alley has always been our choice for dining on nice days, and it has been expanded due to the pandemic. Cannot go wrong with happy hour options every day!

The only way this could have been any better was for me to get a place out on the patio. I read good things about this place on TripAdvisor, and they weren't wrong. I started with six oysters on the half shell, and they were perfect. I then moved on to the grilled watermelon salad with a portion of grilled salmon. The salad was fresh and tasty, and the salmon was cooked to perfection. I had a glass of really nice prosecco to go with the main course. Afterward, I decided to have dessert. I chose the chocolate flourless torte, with what I think was homemade vanilla ice cream, and a macchiato. It was the perfect end to a great meal! Viva la Republic! If it wasn't so far away, I'd be a regular!!
