Blaue Ente – Zurich - a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

"Historic industrial architecture outside and a trendy and lively atmosphere (and some fine old machinery) within. The service is attentive and easy-going, while the menu includes dishes such as rack of lamb with garden cress risotto and Zurich egg on leaf spinach with potato foam and truffle. Make sure you try the flatbread specialities made from naturally fermented spelt sourdough." - Michelin Inspector

Fantastic Event at Blaue Ente – Highly Recommended We hosted our recent event at Blaue Ente in Zurich and had a truly wonderful experience. Mirjam and her team were professional, responsive, and made everything run smoothly from start to finish. The ambiance was elegant and welcoming, the food and drinks were excellent, and the service was outstanding – friendly, efficient, and attentive throughout the evening. A big thank-you to the Blaue Ente team for their flexibility and support.

Nice decor (though quite similar to the current trend of industrial + old stones + filament lights), very nice good service, but the food is quite average. Not a lot of taste. It'd be ok if the price was reasonable, but it's quite expensive for that quality of food.

The food was excellent (I had the lunch special which today included an optional pumpkin/cream soup and I chose fish as the main course). The lemon cream dessert was very good, as was the white wine.

I am sorry about this review because the food is good. When we booked the table, we communicated that I needed gluten free food because I have celiac disease. Arrived at the location, I communicated the fact very clearly again, asking for the gluten free options. The waiter elencate them in Swiss German, when I already asked if he could speak English, without pointing them on the menu. We finally order, I double check with the waiter 2 times that my order is gluten free and he confirms. I get my first course, a tartare, without bread because even if they knew someone with celiac disease was coming that night they did not have even 1 slice of GF bread. But whatever. Second course arrive, I ordered the lamb, really pretty. I start eating and realized that the covering tasted really bready. Before taking another bite I ask the waiter if it was really gluten free. He confirms. But I see him rushing to the kitchen, that worried me because I already had a full bite of my meal. He comes back, not even in a hurry and tells me that my meal has gluten, not only the breading on top but also the meat was prepared with gluten ingredients! At that point I panic, knowing that 1 entire bite of breading would cause me 2 weeks of rashes, pain, cramps, etc, etc. plus the immunological consequences coming with triggering an autoimmune disease. Because yes, celiac disease is an autoimmune disease and the restaurant triggered my disease by feeding me gluten! It is not a joke and I would expect people working in hospitality how dangerous that can be. If I was allergic to fish and the guy would confirm that there is not fish sauce in my meal??? Anyway, they offered to give me another plate in exchange, but at that point I knew I had max 20 min before starting feeling sick so I declined the offer. I waited for my friends to finish their meal (it’s sad because the quality of the food is good. Even if the white wine was served without anything to keep it cool, but whatever) and we asked for the bill. After poisoning me, they told me I did not have to pay the meal I could not eat. THANK YOU I WILL NOT PAY TO GET POISONED when I told you in advance and double and triple checked at the restaurant. In 6 people we paid almost 500 CHF to get one person poisoned. Great. If you have allergies or celiac, stay away from there before they try to kill someone else

I have tried a numerous amount of pumpkin soups all over the world and here it became obvious that I have never truly experienced the delight of this dish. The Hacktätschli melts in your mouth. Negroni was also well done. Overall, a mist-visit place.

Yelp
A hidden gem in Zurich, Switzerland, is Blaue Ente. It is a relaxing restaurant with a warm ambiance and a menu that offers contemporary interpretations of traditional Swiss fare. Constantly fresh and delectable, the food and service are both impeccable. The menu variety is one of the aspects of Blaue Ente that I appreciate the most. From contemporary fare such as duck breast with cherry sauce and venison medallions with rosemary potatoes to traditional Swiss fare such as fondue and raclette, there is something for everyone. I have tried a variety of dishes at Blaue Ente, and each one has met my expectations. The wine list at Blaue Ente is yet another aspect that I adore. The restaurant features an extensive menu of Swiss and international wines, and the staff is consistently delighted to assist patrons in selecting the ideal wine to complement their dining experience. In general, I enthusiastically endorse Blaue Ente for individuals searching for a delectable and genuine Swiss gastronomic encounter. The ambiance, food, and service are all of the highest quality.

Yelp
Food was mediocre. Service was fine but slow. Prices were Swiss. Patio dining was nice.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in Zurich at the moment. I couldn't find a table at most popular restaurants in Zurich for NYE and then Blaue Ente offered a table in the bar. I was hesitated but went ahead as they offered a full menu. When I arrived, they reserved a small table at the corner next to the bookshelf with candle light and lovely decoration. It was so cozy and romantic in that I was glad I didn't get the dinner table in the restaurant. The service was very good. Food was excellent!! Housemade pasta was flavorful and coq au vin made with Quail, not chicken was very good. Rustic bread was also good. I highly recommend Blaue Ente for dinner, drink or just to have snack. I will definitely come back!

Yelp
Awesome wiener schnitzel. Fried first in oil and then in some kind of animal fat and covered in bread crumbs imported from Vienna! Good service, great food.

Yelp
We had a fantastic experience at the Blaue Ente. The restaurant is located in some kind of an old industrial factory, and as a result has neat architectural aspects (i.e., big stone wall, large piece of antique equipment). The staff, including one of the owners, were all very nice and helpful. They made sure to find out all answers to our questions. The food was great. Two of us had a dish with oysters and lentils, and two of us had a seafood dish with cous cous and curry. The oysters were great, but the seafood dish took the cake. The 3-4 types of fish were all cooked well, and the curry was phenomenal. If you save room for dessert, get the chocolate plate!

Yelp
Excellent. Fresh pasta and a more than adequate wine list. Cool industrial design interior.

Yelp
I called to see if there were seats available for my family of 3, and the host said yes, so we walked a few blocks away to the restaurant. They seated us in a great spot with a view of the lake. Unfortunately, that might have been the best part of the meal. I thought we would get great service after watching a server at a table nearby pouring their wine and water for them and being super friendly, but while we were waiting for my husband to arrive, no one came to offer me and my daughter a menu or any water or bread. My husband finally arrived, but still no one came by. Meanwhile, other parties were arriving and were being given menus, water and bread, as orders were being taken. If they didn't have enough waiters to attend to us, they should have told us that there were no seats available. I would have preferred that to waiting over 20 minutes to order. I had to ask the host to have our server come over. Once they did bring us the bread, that was yummy with the hummus. The server didn't give us a drink menu, and when my husband asked about their beers, she rattled off some names he didn't know and rushed him into making a decision. The beer...eh. I ended up asking for the drink menu and ordered wine. I'm not sure if the host said something to the server about us that annoyed her, but I felt like she was avoiding our table, and I had to call her over as she was passing by to order or add drink orders, and it all seemed to be a big bother to her. As for the rest of the meal, I would have to say it was kind of Meh. My husband ordered the beef special, I ordered the whole fish special, and my daughter got pasta. His portion was tiny, mine was big but too bland, but the pasta wasn't bad. A tip: if you choose to fish eat outdoors, expect flies. Lots of flies. We paid a lot for some unsatisfactory food and even tipped (we just moved here from NYC and haven't shaken the habit). I like the space and it's really close, so I will give it another try and hopefully update this review with a better one.

Yelp
Excellent service, very attentive from the beginning. Freshly baked bread and special spread while read ing the menu:-) They even wrapped up the rest of the loaf for us to take home in a paper bag! What a pity the music was too loud while everybody was chatting:-( The volume was reduced during the main course. Why must there be any music in a crowded place? My friend's rabbit tasted delicious and so was my fish. The glass of Spanish wine was OK. I had to ask for a better knife to cut up the whole long fresh baby leeks though. The cheesecake went well with farm strawberries and the espresso perfect with the small additional sweet:-) All in all, almost perfect!

Yelp
It was alright. Service was good, wine was good, and food was good. It was all "good," but for how expensive it was I was hoping more for great! It is a really pretty atmosphere and space. I had the lamb lettuce salad with a fish dish afterwards. The food was average, but the dessert was divine. Chocolate cake with the Gruyere....to die for!

Yelp
AMAZING. Everything was amazing about this restaurant. From the modern yet rustic decor, to the ambiance, to the service, to the food, everything was fantastic. We decided to go with the Tapas and we had the Zurich egg, char, carpaccio, veal meatballs. I would have ordered two Zurich eggs if I had known how awesome it was. Such a blend of different flavors that mesh so well together, it was delicious. Please don't skip out on the Zurich egg! All of our other tapas were scrumptious as well. I was very please with our meal!
