"This restaurant sets itself the challenge of using only Danish ingredients – hence the name – so expect lots of different techniques and imagination in their dishes; naturally, fermentation plays a part, with jars neatly arranged around the dining room containing pickled produce ranging from green strawberries to chive flowers. There’s a relaxed atmosphere, with burnt oak tables, wool blankets and candles, while the period Latin quarter property has been everything from a school to a dairy." - Michelin Inspector

3 Best Day Trips From Copenhagen

"Despite being an industrial space with wooden floors, exposed beams, and brick walls, Restaurant Domestic still manages to feel homey. Guests gather around the round Scandi wooden tables to enjoy one of Aarhus's finest dining experiences (for which the restaurant has earned a Michelin star). The menu focuses on hyper-local, seasonal ingredients (sourced from nearby farms) with strong Nordic tones. Yes, the restaurant has a Michelin star and yes, it offers tasting menus (four or eight courses), but the cuisine is extremely relatable. It's also run by a team of young chefs proud of the work they're doing." - Mary Holland

I had a very nice evening at Domestic, with the 4-dish meny and alcohol-free pairings. In addition to the 4 main servings, there were several other plates served. Only one dish (a slightly too cold and chewy cured white fish) was less than excellent. Interesting homemade alcohol-free beverages (the meat pairing beverage could've been less sweet though). Very nice staff. The dessert was particularly delicious.

A great restaurant that uses only domestic Danish ingredients located within walking distance of the centre of Aarhus. I came here a few years ago and not sure why Google keeps hiding my review. When you see the sign on the street walk straight through to the end and it's on the right! We tried the full discovery course with juice pairing. Staff were friendly and attentive and the chef showed appreciation of the food and great techniques. Highly recommend the non alcoholic pairings and loved the various snacks and desserts. The mains were slightly on the salty side, but maybe appropriate for the Danish palette. Has multiple rooms for different vibes and an extensive wine list. Recommend to go early week for a quiet experience or later in the week if you prefer to see more people. Highly recommend and will be back in the future! 😋😋👍👍

Google
It was our first Michelin starred restaurant experience and will go down as one of our most cherished memory The attention to detail from plating to drink pairings, while the staff explains to you how, where and why the ingredients were sourced, they almost envisualise for you a journey of the food until it hits your palate. This is fine dining at its best, and if you want to experience masters of their craft, this is where you go. My hat tip to the entire staff and chef, keep up the good stuff

Google
If you’re into fine dining then this is definitely a must visit. The atmosphere and environment has a very cozy home style feeling to it which is what they are aiming for. The service is impeccable. It’s quite an experience. We had a 14 dish with 8 wine pairing dinner. It lasted about 4.5hours. The reason why I’m giving it a 4 star is that for some reason halfway through the dishes coming out were really salty. The dishes in the first half were amazing. It’s a shame because everything else was great.

Google
One of a kind service and experience in a restaurant that only uses local (non imported at all!) produce. Visited in April and were lucky enough to be the only ones there so had the full attention of the lovely team. The lumpfish course was amazing. Also especially loved the care they put into their non-alcoholic pairings. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

We had a great time at this restaurant. A lot of thought goes into each course. You can feel that Ben and the whole team love what they are doing, collaborate closely with their suppliers and work with local products in a very innovative way. Mind-blowing. Also very important: We felt very welcome and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere to which Magnus contributed a lot.

Over the years I've been to a few starry restaurants, and this one here is one of the best. I predict a second star is coming soon! Everything was impeccable from interior and atmosphere, through service and friendliness all the way to food and drink. I didn't lack anything at any point throughout the entire seating, and absolutely everything was a pleasure to digest. If the opportunity arise I would love to go again. Highly recommend.

Google
Very good restaurant in Aarhus with one Michelin Star. Unusual in that it only uses ingredients sourced from within Denmark; so, for instance, no pepper but locally grown alternatives. We had the short nine course menu with wine pairings all of which was excellent (obviously the wine is imported from outside Denmark!)

Yelp
We kicked off our visit to Denmark with a visit to Restaurant Domestic. It was our first time experiencing the beauty and attention to detail that seems to pervade all New Nordic restaurants, and Restaurant Domestic was at the pinnacle of its game, setting an almost impossibly high bar for the rest of our trip. The restaurant was tucked away in a secluded courtyard and decor was clean and minimal, with rustic accents. The sommelier was outstanding, recommending a wonderful red wine for the meal. Service was friendly and attentive but definitely on the slower side; I felt like the kitchen was coordinating so all diners received their dishes around the same time, therefore, we could only move as quickly as the slowest table in the room. That being said, it was some of the most mind-boggling three hours of my life. The meal started off with a number of delicious bites, or "snacks", then moved into the eight-course menu. With each dish that arrived at the table, our eyes were first treated to the visual beauty of the food, then we savored the wonderful combination of textures and flavors of the fresh ingredients expertly prepared. Restaurant Domestic also did not skimp on ingredients - we enjoyed a lobster dish, a fish dish, a pork dish, and a beef dish, each prepared in a way that seemed to elevate the already-lovely natural flavors of the subject. Honestly, there was no highlight because everything was so delicious - I've posted some pictures to help convey the experience. We heard from the very knowledgeable waitstaff that the garlic used in one of the dishes had been slow roasted at low heat in the oven for sixty days (!), and we learned about the natural fauna found in the fields and along the sand dunes of Denmark that then made its way into our dishes. We found out that apparently young pinecones are edible (and that they taste quite good!). There is an incredible amount of prep that goes into each dish, from the oils that clearly have been infused for months to the the aged meats. Restaurant Domestic certainly celebrates the unexpected and unusual, serving local ingredients that you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the world. Like basically everything else in Denmark, Restaurant Domestic is not cheap. In fact, it's a downright splurge, ~$150 for the eight-course meal, not including wine. That being said, its prices are much lower for more substantial different when compared to cohorts in Copenhagen, and perhaps because the restaurant located outside of the competitive Copenhagen food scene, the menu seemed a bit more free and fun. We loved our time in Aarhus, from the more homey, old-world atmosphere to the incredible art museum to the delicious food, and I would highly recommend taking an overnight trip out to experience it for yourself.

Yelp
Visited this great place last friday night, having being recmmended the place from restaurant Gastronomi. Food was excellent - we had 8 smal delicious starters and the 8 course menu with our own choice of wine instead of the wine menu. Service was also excellent - pride and enthtutiasm was clearly present in all of the waiters and cooks that serviced us. Fairly pricy (but then again, we went all in) but definately worth it if you are looking for that Really good and rare dining Experience - without having to book table 3 Month in advance.

Yelp
Modern Danish cuisine at its best in totally relaxed location. Lot's of local herbs, berrys, pickled little treassures. Surprising and exciting. Outstanding Service. Excellent wine menu. One of the best places to visit in Aarhus.
