How to Plan a Trip to Brixen, Italy

"Recommended for an "authentic culinary experience" by Günther Kofler, this long-running local favorite (in operation since 1870) emphasizes seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and maintains a cellar of over 400 Italian and international wines. Dining is offered across varied spaces—from parlors and dining rooms to a terrace—suiting different moods and group sizes." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. "Run by the capable Mayr family, this long-established restaurant has occupied a narrow alleyway in the centre of Bressanone (Brixen) since the late 19C. The dining rooms are decorated in historic style, plus there’s a charming terrace for alfresco dining in summer. Dishes are presented on different tasting menus with the option of choosing traditional or Mediterranean dishes à la carte style – we highly recommend the soup made with Sylvaner wine from the Isarco valley, as well as the Tirtl (fried pie) stuffed with ricotta, spinach and cinnamon. Guestrooms are available in the nearby and recently renovated Adler Historic Guesthouse, which is run by the same owners." - Michelin Inspector

On our way to Kronplatz we stopped by for lunch here in Brixen and loved the whole experience – highly recommend this family run place. The service is professional, kind, fast, formal and attentive in both German and Italian. The à la carte menu is modern but strongly linked to traditional Austrian and Italian cuisine with a great selection of seasonal and local dishes – also the wine list provides a great selection of pairings by the glass to the menu. From the foods execution to the presentation, nothing was missed and everything tasted great and looked superb. Recommending trying the soup made with Sylvaner wine from the Isarco valley. Also the Spaghetti with fresh truffle – simple yet unbelievably delicious 🤤

Nice terrace, enclosed by buildings with plants. Maybe the best terrace in Brixen? Good food, big wine list. No natural wine.

Excellent service, food and atmosphere. No globalized uniformity but instead a real authentic south tyrol experience.

Beautiful summer evening dining in the (covered) terraced garden with soft lighting and rain falling upon the grape vines and an exquisite meal prepared with care and impeccable service to match. We took the Territorium & Piscis menus (the menus have changed since the last ones I see posted here from 10 months ago) plus a few add-ons as we couldn't help ourselves. All the dishes were stand-out; I especially recall the delicate yet richly-flavoured shrimp soup which I had previously been hesitant to try. Below this genteel restaurant is wine bar/tapas restaurant that is also run in the family and being seated in this airy treehouse-like platform, it was dreamy to be surrounded by the scrim of greenery and vine leaves yet through it still hear the gentle melody of clinking glasses and laughter and happy voices bubbling up from the courtyard below.
