This place has been our favorite on our Quebec trip so far. Adorable atmosphere and great music. Absolutely delicious and rich onion soup. The pork loin was incredibly tender and had a delicious sauce, and the carrot puree was delectable. The shepherd's pie was okay but the corn layer was tasty, and the ribs were a hit. My daughter requested the maple taffy and it was fantastic. Makes me realize how commercial our typical syrup is, when this one tasted so pure and sweet.

La Bûche is a charming spot right in the heart of Old Québec, surrounded by the beautiful historic streets and architecture that make this area so picturesque and enchanting--perfect for a winter visit! The atmosphere is fantastic; it really feels like stepping into a cozy small cabin in the woods, with rustic wood decor, snowshoes on the walls, and that warm, festive Québec vibe. The staff were super friendly and attentive, and our drinks (including some fun local cocktails) were solid and hit the spot. We ordered the shepherd's pie (pâté chinois), and it was absolutely amazing--comforting, flavorful, and one of the best we've had. However, the poutine's cheese curds were a bit stiff and waxy for our taste, though the gravy was perfectly on point and rich. Overall, a great experience with authentic Québec flair. We'd definitely come back, especially for that shepherd's pie--just might skip the poutine next time!

The biggest piece of advice I can give is get a reservation!!!!!! This cute cozy restaurant is absolutely packed with people and I cannot imagine how long my partner and I would've waited had we not gotten a reservation. We were a bit confused when we arrived because there were two lines outside, but there was a server at the door that told us to wait with others who had reservations during the same time as us. It took us about 10 mins after our reservation time to get into the restaurant but once we sat down things were significantly less hectic. We ordered a mimosa and then two main dishes which we split - the chicken and waffles and the meat pie. The chicken and waffles were absolutely delicious, but if you're not a fan of sweet things then you probably wouldn't like this. The syrup that coats the entire dish is decadent and almost dessert-like, but pairs perfectly with the spices from the chicken. The fresh blueberries were a nice touch too! The meat pie on the other hand was very savory, with a tasty mix of meats under a flakey pastry topping. It came served with a salad (and unknown creamy dressing?) which was pretty good as well. The decor and ambience of this place was definitely unique and has its charm. The staff were efficient and kind as well, and we felt like we had a very pleasant experience here (though the crowds would probably stop me from going too often).

I had a great time at La Bûche. We ordered poutine, French toast, and tried two different beers, and everything really captured that hearty, comforting Québécois feel. The food was tasty and satisfying, and it paired perfectly with the relaxed, rustic vibe of the space. The service was excellent -- friendly, professional, and quick, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The venue itself was amazing, with such a fun, cozy atmosphere that makes it stand out. Even the bathroom was incredible, which says a lot about the attention to detail throughout the restaurant. Overall, La Bûche offered a memorable dining experience that was as much about the warm hospitality and atmosphere as it was about the food and drinks. PS. Our server was womderful but obsessed with going to the US to eat at Olive Garden and I don't know if I can support that.

Beautiful restaurant nestled in old Quebec City. We found this spot on a food tour and came back on our own the next day! Delicious light eggs filled with a mild cheese and sautéed mushrooms, side of sweet apples and savory potatoes- loved every bite! My husband enjoyed the breakfast sampler with small portions of crepe, potatoes, meats and beans! Nice to try multiple small bites!! We enjoyed our breakfast with a view of the busy city streets ! Tip- very popular spot, get there early or make a reservation, especially if you prefer a table with a view.

Immediately when you walk inside you're welcomed by a rustic environment and an old school feel. The place is huge with 4 different sections of the restaurant you can sit at. Went here for breakfast with family and they had some great choices. Their menu is a school book which we loved. The service was great and our waiter was attentive. I ordered the lumberjack casserole which kept me full for a while. I got their crepe on the side which was tasty but covered in a bit more sauce than my liking. Some of their other breakfast items that were more simple like the eggs, potatoes, and ham were good but needed a bit more flavor (what I heard from my family members), but still good. Overall, Great place to stop for breakfast in Old Quebec!

We stopped in for breakfast while in Old Quebec and was immediately upon entering we walked into a rustic cabin with stone walls and eclectic art and wood furnishings. The menu offers a variety of options. We had crepes with maple syrup and eggs with maple honey bacon and potatoes, The crepes were buckwheat, thin and very good. Service was very good. This is a good option for true comfort food.

I figured that if I was in Quebec, I should try a traditional Quebecois restaurant. La Buche seems to be quite a popular choice, so we stopped here for lunch. Not surprisingly, there was a line-up. There looked to be about 4 or 5 groups ahead of us, but the hostess said the wait would be around 10 minute, so we decided to stay. She guessed right because the wait was about 10 minutes. We were seated on the patio on a very hot day. So we enjoyed the sunshine and outside atmosphere, except when the garbage truck came by, and when the patio umbrellas couldn't shade us from the direct sunlight. We weren't overly hungry so we only tried three dishes: - Ailes de canard (Duck Wings): Good. I've had plenty of duck before, but not the wings. So it was pretty good, especially the sauce. - Tourtière (Meat pie): OK. I always envision what a tourtière should be like, and it doesn't always hit the mark. It was OK, but some of the meat was quite chunky and dry. The pastry top didn't taste fresh. I liked the fruit ketchup. - Tarte au Sirop d'Erable (Maple Syrup Pie): Good. I've only had this once before, and remember being quite impressed with it. This one was pretty good, but sweeter than what I had before. I liked the nut, seed and blueberry topping. Service was good enough, but because it was very busy, our server wasn't readily available. Service times in Quebec is much longer, so that I expected, but the general busyness just added to it. I was satisfied with my meal, as I don't have much opportunity to try Quebecois cuisine at home. I wish I had more time to try more.

This was the first restaurant we went to when we arrived and it remained a favorite throughout our visit. We had dinner as well as several breakfasts there. The food was quite good. My wife and I are primarily vegan but do supplement with some fish occasionally to make dining out with friends easier and we had no problem satisfying our palates. The waitstaff and service was excellent. We found this at every establishment we visited in Quebec. Wonderful spot with lots of ambiance and local color displayed. They appear to be affiliate with three or four other local restaurants like Le Don.

So we had a reservation of nine people and checked in early no problem. There was a line going outside the door but once we checked in all we had to do was wait until our reservation time to be seated. The restaurant was packed and had a cabin rustic vibe. Their menu was extensive and I had both the Shepards pie and a whisky sour. I also tried someone's poutine. The poutine was okay. I thought the fries would be better. And the Shepards pie was actually very good but not made the classic way. Normally it would be baked and this was not. Service was okay but we were a larger group and in an odd room. They did their best. Seating was tight but we made it work.

Creamy potatoes, savory meat, and a layer of sweet corn--simple but delicious. Pouding chômeur - A must-try. This maple-soaked cake is gooey, rich, and straight-up addictive. It's called "unemployed man's pudding," but it tastes like a millionaire's dessert. Small Labatt 50 - Cold, classic, and perfect with the heavier dishes. 6 ailes de lapin - Rabbit wings! Super tender with a slightly gamey kick--definitely a unique treat. Pain boule - A crusty round of fresh bread to soak it all up. Tourtière - The star of the night. Rich, flaky meat pie with a deeply satisfying savory flavor. Worth every bite. All that for around $132 CAD for two people including tax--and totally worth it. They even offer 15% off at the boutique next door when you show your receipt, which is a fun bonus. Whether you're a foodie or just curious about Quebecois comfort food, La Bûche delivers big flavor in a down-to-earth setting. It's the kind of meal that sticks with you (in the best way). Can't wait to go back and try more!

This is a restaurant on the main tourist corridor. It caters to tourists. If you're opposed to that or prefer to "eat local" this is not it. That said - the food is VERY good. This was our last night in Quebec and we wanted to eat some traditional fare. La Bouche is near our hotel. We grabbed a reservation (which is a good idea because by 6:30 the standby wait was 20 minutes). The service was fine. Everyone was friendly but I felt the service could have been a bit better (typical tourist standards). There are several indoor and outdoor areas for seating. We were on the back patio, which was perfect. We got the pork rinds, which is not what we were expecting. It's more like some fried ham bits. But they were tasty. Chewy and maple covered. I ate the pork loin. It came with two cuts. One was more bbq style and the other was more traditional roast with gravy. Both were amazing. It was served with a carrot puree (the surprise star of the plate) and a potato cake. All delightful.

Located in old Quebec City this place is recommended for their Quebecois style fare...from meat pies to poutine to dishes with gamey meat. Interior is log cabin style and yes....this is geared towards tourists. Prices were not too crazy though. It is recommended that reservations are made but we didn't have one and still managed to get seated in less than 15 minutes which was good during a dinner rush. Food was decent. The poutine was good and the added meat sauce (which is optional) made it hardier. Portions are really meant for one meaning it's harder to share if you have more than 1 person. Service is swift. A very large group (15+ people) left and I watched all the tables cleared and cleaned in less than 15 minutes. Was amazing. I'm sure there are other more local places that serve similar food at slightly lower prices but this place is worth a visit.

As a tourist knowing this is a tourist spot, it's still delicious. This was the best maple pie I've ever had, everyone needs to get it. Also got the poutine and loved it. The energy inside is fun and upbeat. It's very Canadian style seating where your right next to strangers and it's a little crowded. But that was fun for me. I liked this place and the servers, would def go back again!

Cute restaurant fairly close to our hotel. It serves Quebecquois cuisine, which of course we had to try since this was our first trip here. Our wait staff was very friendly and engaging. I ordered the Linda Margarita (which has aperol, approved, very refreshing and citrus-y. For a starter, I ordered the fois gras, which was buttery, succulent, and yummy. A salad, because, greens, then the meat pie which had beef, pork, and duck. The top was a buttery puff pastry. My mother ordered the maple glazed pork loin, that was tender,and juicy. It came with a carrot puree and a potato pancake. A really wonderful meal.

Wow. I was not sure about the food when I first saw the menu. But it was highly recommended so I had to give it a try. My friends and I ordered a variety of things and shared it. We got the Onion soup with bread, the shephards pie, and the ribs with poutine. Everything was delicious and had great flavor. We had a great experience and service. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Was looking for a place to eat during our day in old Quebec. Saw this place was number one on Yelp and quickly made reservations for 5pm. Very nice relax vibe here. We ordered the appetizer platter which had salmon and beef tartare, duck wing, coleslaw, smoked salmon etc. this was great, not enough crisp bread so we asked for more. Got the foie gras with granola and honey, and bacon jam which was so tasty. For the mains we ordered tourtiere and pork loin with potato rosti. We originally wanted to substitute the tourtiere side for rosti, but I guess language barrier we ended up with the entree. Didn't matter it was quite good with the sweet potato mash. The boys got maple taffy on the house, and we ordered the s'mores donuts which was so good! Enjoyed everything here and glad we came!

Pure Quebec food! The Poutin was on point, the drinks on point! The waitresses and the waiters are super sweet. We even got a nice seating arrangement. The service was super quick. Although the portions were a little bit small for the prices they were going for. But nonetheless, the everything was amazing.

If I could eat here again, I would. The service is friendly and helpful. The shepherds pie was suggested by our server and it did not disappoint. The pea soup was also delicious. The best part was dessert and it was very delightful. The ambiance is a cabin like setting and very casual alongside the streets of Quebec. Would highly recommend!

Our taxi driver recommended for us to at La Buche in Old Quebec. On TripAdvisor, La Buche is ranked #43 out of #1441 Restaurants in Quebec City. La Buche's website markets the restaurant as "Cuisine Quebecoise" or "Quebec Cuisine". Quebec Cuisine blends French, Indigenous, and British influences together (i.e. poutine). I tried their: - Salmon - Pea Soup - Cocktail - La Beaute Du Lac - Elderberry Liquer, Blueberry Puree, Lemon & Maple Syrup - Dessert - Banana Bread with Whiskey Caramel Service was friendly. Ambiance was upscale casual. ENJOY!! Note: Apparently La Buche and La Buchette are related. YUM YUM YUM!

We couldn't leave Quebec City without having a more traditional meal so we decided to check out La Bŭche after several recommendations. I liked the vibe of the place and was the decor was charming - verging on cheesy. Our server brought out the free apps which didn't really do much for us. We each ordered a bowl of pea soup and asked if the shepherd's pie entree was large enough to split. Our server told us it wasn't so we each got our own. We were floored when these dishes came out as it was way too much for one person to each, especially after soup! We both ate what we could but ultimately left more on the plate than we had consumed which felt wasteful. The flavors were okay but there was nothing we had that would make me seek out this place to return to in the future.

I didn't like the food. The grandma's meatball was oily, dense and dry. The gravy and mash potatoes were good and the peas were okay. The beef pot pie wasn't very appetizing but the side salad was okay. WiFi didn't work at all and the phone signal was nonexistent.

I had a really disappointing experience at Ia Bûche. The wait for our food was incredibly long, and the waitstaff were mostly unattended throughout the meal. To make it worse, multiple tables around us who arrived after we did were served their food first. When our food finally came out, it was mediocre and not worth the wait. Overall, the service issues and lackluster food made this a frustrating experience.

Very Quebec. Food selection is geared toward families and tourists - comfort stuff. Good though. Decor is exactly what you'd imagine if you would ask an American who has never been to Canada to think of Canadian things to put up on the walls. The downstairs washroom was clean but gave me a creepy vibe with the bathtub.

Great service by team of experienced workers, friendly taking care everyone's needs. A Huge place, love difference space in and out with incredible decorations. My eyes are busy looking around. Sat next to #41 seat from hockey stadiums. Like my hot shot, wish size a little bigger Glad I listened to waitress who suggested I would be out if I ordered shot flight of 5/ $20. The hot shot is strong, took 2 which got me walk around old Quebec happily afterwards. An amazing place overall!

We have enjoyed eating at La Bûche during both of our visits to Quebec City. It is bustling (crowded) but that's somehow part of the appeal. Absolutely make a reservation or you will have quite a long wait. The vibe is dark and cozy, makes me think of a old European pub from the movies. Service was great, but don't expect this to be a slow, relaxed dinner like a lot of Quebec restaurants. They have a lot of people waiting for your table so they get your food and then bill to you quickly so they can turn the table. I had the pea soup which was tasty!

Had a brunch reservation on our last morning in Quebec City and had an early brunch reservation. We arrived an hour earlier (essentially when they opened) and they had plenty of seats so we were seated. Very friendly service with everyone making sure we were enjoying our meal. All the food we ordered was really good too. Got to try little bits of everything which I really enjoyed. We also got an omelette which was very nice. Everything was great but the ambiance was my favorite part. Super cute place that I definitely recommend visiting!

CUTE place! I got reservations for 9am on a Tuesday, but I'm not sure they were necessary, because it was relatively empty. Good and speedy service. I got the crepe and it was light and delicious! Not sure if this is typical, but they gave us a complimentary "maple taffy" at the end which was much appreciated. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting Quebec.

Friendly local spot that has a large menu ensuring everyone can find something to eat. We ordered the crepes and breakfast poutine and both were perfect for brunch on a snowy day. The crepes were exceptionally soft and had a melt in your mouth texture while not being overtly sweet. We were promptly seated despite not having a reservation. Even though we were placed at communal table, the staff spaced the patrons out enough that you didn't feel crowded. A standout feature to me was how friendly and quick the service was despite the restaurant clearly being packed due to a snow storm. Overall it had a very welcoming atmosphere regardless of if you were a local or visiting the city and staying nearby. People of all ages really seemed to be having a good time and it's easy to see why.

We loved it. You might have to roll us out of there, or we might die at the table of a meat coronary, but we sure would die happy. I was describing to some friends what kind of place it is, and the best possible word I have is "Lumberjack-y". This is the kind of place that has sleds hanging in the rafters and not just taxidermy heads on the walls but taxidermy heads with buckets and sleigh bells draped over their necks and antlers. Meat and potatoes meals. Stick to your ribs food. Big portions. Beer drafts at 12, 20, or 40 oz pours. My order actually had a creamy salad as its side, and it could have had twice as much salad and half as much meat, or it could have lasted me multiple meals. (Did I finish it? I did. I don't have a microwave at my hotel room and no way was I letting this go to waste.) Hubs & I ordered what is possibly the most quintessentially Quebecois entrees, Le Pâté Chinois (a specific shepherd's pie, named not for the country China but for a town in Quebec named China) and La Tourtière, which was a puff pastry topped meat pie with duck, pork, and beef inside. We also got a starter of crispy "pork rinds" which were in fact slivers of pig ear doused in maple syrup (I know it sounds weird but it's a Chinese food too so I didn't even have to wrap my head around that one). Added a side of poutine for kicks and giggles, and let me tell you, when it was fresh from the fryer with crunchy fries and squeaky cheese curds under a blanket of gravy... this is what you come to Canada for. You need to get a reservation, and they pretty much have two settings per evening, but they're also kind of a complex of interconnected restaurants if you didn't plan ahead, you can eat at one of the others. Don't do that to yourself, though. Plan and prepare, and eat like a lumberjack.

Amazing experience. Loved doing the maple taffy! Food was incredible (I had the ham). Service was awesome, the waiter was extremely helpful and friendly, also knowledgeable about the history. And finally, the vibe was great. Just an overall solid meal and amazing restaurant.

We went here for brunch on a Saturday at around one. The atmosphere is fun and loud. The service was very friendly and upbeat. I had the grandma omelette that had smoked cheddar, green onions, and mushrooms-a great combination for me! Ido wish it had more cheese, but other than that it was great! It comes with yummy home fries, toast, and spiced apples. An all around good brunch meal. My mom enjoyed her trout crepes, although she thought it might have actually been salmon, either way, she ate it all. My dad had been wanting eggs, so he was happy with his omelette. I could understand why it stayed so busy!

Excellent food that is pure Quebecois. First the drink, even if it was just a strawberry daiquiri, was so good. Not too sugary and sweet but just perfect. Then ordering my food; the poutine maison. Pure poutine from Quebec; homemade gravy sauce with real delicious cheese. Couldn't have asked for a better meal to fill me up. Lastly the desert; reading off the menu and looking at the s'mores doughnuts peaked my interest. How do you make s'mores with a doughnut? That desert was so wonderful and delicious, it felt like it was melting in my mouth with so much different and wonderful flavors. Even the restaurant itself was giving off a great vibe with great music, cool decorations and amazing service. Our servers were respectful and welcoming and made the experience great. Definitely recommend to eat in Quebec, especially if you want pure Québécois food.

We were a group of four for dinner. Seated out on the back deck/patio at a long table. The atmosphere was perfect. The service was attentive and friendly, and the food and drinks were exceptional. We snacked through a fromage plate, the seared foie gras plate and the Pate Chinois. The price was nice as well.

My son and I walked into this establishment for brunch on a Monday. I would recommend getting a reservation as they were very busy and we were lucky to get a table without one. Our server was quite lovely. I ordered a latte to start which was delicious. My son got the crepes sucree and I got the breakfast poutine. Both dishes were absolutely phenomenal. My egg was cooked perfectly and my son practically licked his plate. This place has a rustic feel with snow shoes covering the ceiling. I would definitely come back to try the dinner menu!

Welcome to a winter wonderland! This cozy restaurant is a perfect place for a great breakfast! I had smoked trout crepes, and it was so delicious! The Smokey trout, savory goat cheese, and light sweetness from the crepes made for a wonderful flavor combination. A side of delicious baked beans hit the spot. My wife loved her waffles with hazelnut spread and bacon. The bacon was thick and had a great maple flavor. This place was just fun and a good spot to kick off the day!

This was our favorite breakfast spot when visiting Quebec City. When you walk in and see the stone wall interior, it just makes you feel that you're in Canada. You know that this place has been here for a long time! Our food was delicious! I had an omelette, many others in our group had crepes. A highlight was that the mimosa refills only cost $2. We took advantage of that! If you visit, you must check out the bathrooms downstairs. Definitely unique! Very fun vibe here with great service!

Cozy restaurant, good service, and decent food! I ordered the Puree de pommes de terre (Quebec shepperds pie) and a beer. The shepperds pie was okay but the meat was dry and missing some sort of sauce or maybe Demi glace would have been nice. Also pickled cucumber and beets came out first and solid!

Wonderful service, excellent ambience, and poutine was good. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and felt comfortable. La Buche is good for large parties. The staff were attentive, and It's the kind of place where everything just comes together. Success! Would definitely return. Caroline made the experience fun.

La Bûche is adorable! It's very rustic cabin themed and they have a lot of yummy Canadian food to choose from! I went for brunch because there were more vegetarian options for me than their dinner menu. Our waitress was super nice and accommodating, as we had to split the bill. Your order comes with coffee or tea, which I love! Unfortunately the pea soup is not vegetarian and was bacon heavy. But! They were able to make the poutine vegetarian by putting the pork on the side. The poutine had an amazing cheese : fry ratio. The gravy was slightly on the sweet side since they used maple syrup. The crepes were very good! Simple, light, sweet. I got them with maple syrup and blueberries. Definitely a great brunch spot!

After doing a day trip to QC, and deciding between here and Le Lapin Saute, we chose to eat here as we knew it was much larger, and wanted to grab a seat without a wait. Food: -Pea soup - fine, perfectly medicore -Onion soup - wow, this really was damn good, would easily order this everytime and anytime. -Walleye fillet - geez this was unfortunate, needed salt and pepper, almost as if none was put before the cook, it was unfortunately overcooked too. -Shepperd's pie - the potatoes were cooked well, good amount of corn, the beef was clearly vatted, and unfortunately just overdone; the braise/jus from it was very good, needed more of it actually. now, what bothered us was I was asked if I wanted the bacon on top or in it, I said on top? because honestly, i didn't know how different it'd be. Bacon is a part of the description on the menu, why are you asking me where I want it placed? The bacon was overcooked too. Service: -Started out great, then declined and never recoevered. -After our soups, our waitress cleared our settings and asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. We had to explain twice that we only finished our soups and the other part of our meal had not come out... this was only compounded when the runner came to the table as we were repeating ourself, with our main course dishes in his hand, and no settings at all. He held them like a champ while another runner grabbed settings so he could set the dishes down. Look, it happens... but we shouldn't have had to repeat ourselves AND she could have helped the runner -no dessert/coffee for us, but the check comes and there is an upcharge for the bacon. now, at this point, we're just like, ugh, and do not want to deal with it, and say nothing. Place is cute, some food is executed well, but I would not come back with the mishaps.

This was BY FAR my favorite restaurant in Quebec City. French food is often associated with fine dining, I suppose, but this casual dining experience was top-notch. Our server was attentive and friendly and recommended great appetizers and entrees for both adults and kids. We ordered the shepherds pie and French onion soup for our kids, plus foie gras, the duck tartar and salmon entrees. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was also interesting, as you'll find deer heads, raccoons and the like, throughout the restaurant. There's also an open kitchen, which was a nice touch!

Food: 4/5 - I had the popular Quebec meat tourtiere that came with a salad. Some of the pieces of meat in the pie were dry tasting but overall tasty. It was a cold day to have a hot pie to satisfy the soul. Service: 5/5 - server was friendly Ambiance: 5/5 a homey and comfy vibe to the place. It's a popular place so get there early. There is a cute patio area to dine outside on nicer days.

Marianne was a fabulous server. She recommended the most wonderful food and desserts! The venison tartare was (shockingly) fantastic. The beef pie was real good; the pork and potato pancake was delicious. The salads were exceptional. The poutine was not as good as we expected but still good. The dessert sampler was FANTASTIC! The restaurant is extremely cute and all the people were really great.

Recommended by a few sources as the best Quebecois restaurant in the area, so we had to try it. Very popular so not easy to get a dinner reservation but worth it. Interior set up as a hunting lodge, with many game oriented dishes. The service was fine with a friendly waitress - more than a few tourists getting their pictures. Food portion was generous (we shared the cassoulard (sic) and very filling after some appetizers. No room for dessert, tho folks at next table seemed to enjoy the small orders of fudge.

Located within 5 mins walk from Chateau Frontenac. Came here early just 10 mins before 5 and they let us know the full dinner menu would be ready at 5pm. Ended up ordering tourtierre (meat pie- $29) and poutine ($18). Would call the meat "pie" more open faced cause there is no pie crust just puff pastry on top. No problem but just fyi! Salad had nice maple syrup dressing so different. Friend like the poutine mentioning special sauce and lot of cheese curds. Overall it was good but nothing crazy. Would I come back if I'm in quebec city? Not sure. Kind of bland for the meat pie.
