"This iconic institution of the Morvan region, which has seen so many generations of chefs and fine food lovers pass through its doors, has embarked on a new chapter. Since its auspicious débuts with Alexandre Dumaine and Bernard Loiseau, followed by 40 years under the helm of Patrick Bertron, Louis-Philippe Vigilant now runs the show at this culinary landmark and continues to uphold the authentic culinary signature that has forged its reputation. In addition to the chef's new creations, nostalgic guests can travel back in time and sample some of Bernard Loiseau’s great classics, such as frog's legs with garlic purée and parsley juice, or pan-fried pike-perch in a red wine sauce." - Michelin Inspector

A Wine Lover's Tour of Burgundy, France - AFAR

"A two-Michelin-starred restaurant located within the hotel that continues to serve many of the late chef’s classic dishes, including his signature tender frog legs with parsley, and is backed by an extensive wine cellar holding some 15,000 regional bottles; its offerings emphasize refined French technique and a strong connection to Burgundy terroir." - Kristin Braswell

You Can Stay in the Charming French Chateau Named after the Legendary Chef in Ratatouille

"A storied, fine-dining restaurant long associated with la grande cuisine and haute gastronomy, originally popularized by Alexandre Dumaine and later elevated by Bernard Loiseau, who joined the kitchen in his twenties, became head chef in 1975, took ownership in 1982, and earned a third Michelin star in 1991. Renowned for melding modern and traditional techniques and for obsessively sourcing the finest ingredients, its signature dishes included standout items like cuisses de grenouille. The chef’s intense perfectionism and the pressure of Michelin ratings shaped both the restaurant’s legacy and a national conversation after his 2003 death amid fears of losing a star. Despite that history, the kitchen’s continuity endures under long-serving staff (including a head chef with decades at the restaurant), preserving its influence on French culinary culture." - Malik Peay

Le Relais Bernard Loiseau (Saulieu, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Just because it’s known as a restaurant first doesn’t mean there’s anything second-class about the hospitality at Relais Bernard Loiseau — this is something more than a dining room with a couple of rooms stuck upstairs as an afterthought. Take the spa, for example — it’s not every country inn that features a Roman-style spa, complete with sauna, mud bath and fitness center. There’s an outdoor pool as well, in the midst of what the French call an English garden, which is itself the perfect venue for an apéritif or just a spell of good old-fashioned lounging. There are not one or two but 33 rooms, each one individually designed and decorated, from the humble standard rooms to the luxurious junior suites, and many come with balconies or terraces with views over the central garden. Public spaces include a library and a billiards room named after Charles X. And then of course there’s the restaurant, La Côte d’Or, where Patrick Bertron has earned a pair of MICHELIN Stars. And it wouldn’t be Burgundy without a cellar full of first-rate bottles — here you’ll find the best the region has to offer." - Tablet Hotels

We went here with little expectations but as this was half way between home and the Mediteranean it seemd the right thing to do. The room we were offered was very stylish. A fireplace, beautiful decorated and all boxes for a 5* rating were ticked. The bed was very soft but not a major issue for 2 nights. The shower was a challenge to get working properly but also here no major issues. We we booked for 1 night in the bistro, which was excellent value for money and very tasty and 1 night at the 2* restaurant. Both my wife and i were dissapointed. She had the vegetable menu and i the regular one. Underwhelming and really not even worth a star. We are very sorry to say but the food is not star worthy at the moment. The staff was friendly but we were served by a waiter who did not know his cheeses and that also gave an awkward feeling.......Finally the spa, what a treat! Amazing and nothing but praise for such a wonderful place. The hotel all in all deserves 4* but the restaurant needs a Michelin visit, and quick!

Myself, husband, and 7 year old daughter just had the most amazing stay here.||We found the accommodation last minute and made a call to the hotel. Reception staff were lovely, speaking perfect English.|Multiple room options were given.||We arrived after a long drive, and instantly, we were made feel comfortable with all needs catered for.|The room itself was stunning. The bed was so comfortable as was the sofa bed for our child. Amenities galore.||We visited the spa on our first morning during child friendly hours. What an experience! World class. And complimentary for accomodation guests.||First night, we dined at the Bistro. Very relaxed, but service was perfect. Delicious food.|The second night, we spoiled ourselves and dined in the Michelin star restaurant on site. Although service and food were of the highest class, the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. We took our 7 year old daughter with us. She was provided with her own "kid friendly" menu and made feel welcome and included.||I could write so much more about this accommodation but it is best just to say that it is definitely worth a visit. ||The story of Bernard Loiseau and the amazing women who have continued his legacy is inspiring.||As far as the region is concerned, Dijon is not far and worth a visit. As is the Parc de l'Auxois - great for the family.

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel numerous times over the years, dating back to its very early days. Much has changed in terms of both size and reputation. On our recent two night visit we were extremely disappointed in several aspects.|First it must be said that the staff members, without exception, were welcoming, charming and professional. However the building itself has changed a lot over the years and is now in need of considerable upgrading, particularly the extensive wooden structures on the garden side which look very dilapidated. The garden itself has been a feature but is now very overgrown and unkempt. It looks as thought it has been taken over by the "Rewilders"! Some of the features are almost obscured, such as the charming figure of a young lady reading a book. This was easily viewed from the dining room but is now only fully visible from a couple of tables.|We stayed in one of the "Cocon" suites. It was very disappointing. The bed was on a raised plinth in the middle of quite a small room and closed in by sliding rattan doors, with a strange canopy overhead. Getting up at night was hazardous because the doors unless fully open gave no support and there was a significant step down. ?Fractured hips for the elderly? The bath is open to the main room with only a mobile screen and the bathroom was small and inconvenient with very little area to place objects, The whole design is disjointed and lacks continuity of style as though it has been put together to use up unwanted pieces.|The restaurant food was fine but not exceptional as it used to be. We had meals at other 2-star and 1-star restaurants on this trip which were much better.|All in all very disappointing. Will we be back? Unlikely sorry to say.

Lovely, well maintained property boasting a Restaurant La Côte d’Or 2* Michelin which drew us to this place on our way home from Bordeaux. Also came recommended by a family member who had stayed before. We would not come back. Although the main restaurant was excellent, the Bistro, bearing the Bernard Loiseau name was unacceptable. If staying two nights at the Relais then the Bistro should offer a nice option for an alternative meal - it really isn't and this is why we would not return.

Terrible hotel! We experienced theft inside our room, the hotel management’s only feedback was that we are responsible of our stuff!

We had a pleasant stay in a junior suite with nice garden. The staff was very helpful and recommending nice places to visit in the region.|Very confortable bed and lovely decoration of the suite. Great Spa you would not expect in this small village with different pools, sauna and Jacuzzy. The garden is also very well maintained and brings a lot of charm to the property.|The diner at Michelin restaurant was fine but I was expecting more as it is a two star Michelin restaurant.|Also I would have expected mineral water in the room during the turndown service.

I’ve admired Chef Bernard Loiseau for years — his passion, precision, and legacy have deeply inspired me. Visiting his legendary restaurant in Saulieu was both humbling and moving. Next time, we’ll make sure to book a table and honour his spirit through the cuisine he helped define. Rest peacefully, Monsieur Loiseau. Your influence lives on. #BernardLoiseau #Tribute #InMemory #CulinaryLegend #Gastronomy #Saulieu #RelaisBernardLoiseau #Burgundy #CulinaryPilgrimage #FrenchCuisine #FineDining #Gastronomy #HauteCuisine #FoodInspiration Un pellegrinaggio per me e tutti coloro hanno amato la vita di Bernard Loiseau. Commovente.

Yelp
The restaurant is in a greenhouse-like corner of the hotel of the same name, which looks out onto an internal garden with sculptures of dogs and ostrich. We had for dinner one vegetarian 5 course and one Hommage Aux Saveurs menu with a substitution of the foie gras dish from the Mes Racines menu for the "Brochet A La Falcon D'une Fôchouse" white fish appetizer. The service is very warm and the waiters only know the word yes--just the kind of service deserving of a 2 or 3 Michelin white tablecloth fancy restaurant. The first dish was a great collection of local vegetables that struck us both as similar to Blue Hill at Stone Barns. We immediately Wikipedia'd the restaurant and learned that the previous head chef before he committed suicide was famous for using local fresh ingredients and low cream, revolutionary in his generation for French Haute Cuisine. Foie Gras dish was Bomb; I snuck a bite and it was delicious, perfect hot temperature, and not too fatty. The vegetarian dish for that course was a green asparagus with an egg cream. Savory dish for meat eater was veal served pink; savory dish for vegetarian was a layered potato with melted cheese and fresh cilantro on top. The cheese spread was amazing, and the wine was very overpriced compared to the Burgundy joints we visited.

Yelp
Bernard Loiseau lived and died a legend. If you don't know to whom I refer, read "The Perfectionist" about the life of this legendary French chef who battled depression his entire career, but still became a Three-Michelin star chef. When reports came out that he was going to lose a star, he shot himself at a fairly-young age. If that doesn't make you want to stay and dine at his legendary hotel and restaurant, well, read the book, and then book it. Tucked away in a small town in Burgundy, lies the Relais Bernard Loiseau. It is a gorgeous, yet unconventional, hotel. It has large cabin-like rooms, and a beautiful spa downstairs where I did indulge in a treatment or two. While the hotel is gorgeous, gourmands flock far and wide for the legendary food and to clench a bit of the legend. As an ignorant non-foodie, I did not know much about Loiseau, when I arrived, but, was quickly educated. There is not much to do in this little town, with the exception of a few bars and the hotel and gift shop attached. It is very quaint and lovely. The restaurant is in word: astonishing. Each course is elegantly and gloriously prepared. I still think about their signature cocktail, my first frog leg, and the tenderness of the beef. The dining rooms are incredible, as is the lounges where you enjoy your cocktails and wine. I would recommend challenging your palette to one of the set menus. The pastries are divine. The hotel in general has exceptional service. They even provided us with our own driver/certified sommelier for wine tasting throughout burgundy. It really doesn't get any better than this. If you ever find yourself in France, it is worth the drive (only two hours if you don't get lost from Paris).
