"Catalan chef Stéphane Modat has set up shop in this historical house in Old Québec. Above its glass-fronted kitchen on the ground floor, it has dining rooms decorated with hunting and fishing trophies (in keeping with the chef's passions). The tasting menu celebrates ingredients from Québec: fish, game, and red meat make up a menu inspired by quintessential boreal traditions. His candied Arctic char on a bed of smoked salmon, seal tataki, seaweed salad, and fish roe suvalik pays homage to the fishermen of Salluit, the northernmost village in Québec. The meat dishes hold their own, with buffalo cappelletti and chanterelles." - Michelin Inspector

Where to Sip, Eat, and Stay in Quebec City

"Opened in 2021 with an urban hunting-lodge vibe, this restaurant focuses on local producers — bread from the city’s best bakery and salmon smoked using traditional Wendat techniques are examples — and serves a tasting-menu-driven meal beneath stuffed animal heads that might distract if the dishes weren’t so good." - Nina Caplan

"Set in a historic building on a side street in the heart of touristy Old Quebec, Le Clan serves food driven by chef Stéphane Modat’s incomparable passion for Quebec’s terroir. Modat sources ingredients from friends on the Lower North Shore of the province — whom he calls “le clan” — to produce dishes free from conventions. Pier-Alexis Soulière, dubbed Canada’s best sommelier in 2021, orchestrates the wine menu and pairings." - Allison Van Rassel

We visited Le Clan last night, and unfortunately, dinner was a complete miss. We were in town solely to visit some of the highest rated Michelin establishments and Le Clan fell very short in comparison to our other dining experiences. The food: VERY beautifully presented. Unique and exciting to the eye. Unfortunately, the taste was very lack lustre, with muted tones and no discernible flavours. It was surprising considering the presentation. We thought perhaps the next course would be better, but with each passing dish it became apparent that the attention was not placed on how it tasted. It really was a shock after seeing what QC has to offer! The service and atmosphere: When I sat in my chair, I noticed it was covered in crumbs… the edges of my chair had food crumbs all around. The service was punctual and effective, but it would have been nice to be asked how the meal was going. We tried to make it known that we were underwhelmed, but it wasn’t until we were paying our bill that the server actually asked how it was and we expressed our disappointment. He wanted to offer us something, but after 6 courses of food that were not enjoyable, we just wanted to leave. I would never recommend visiting. We truly were left bewildered.

Le Clan: A Culinary History Lesson (and then some!) If you're looking for a meal, go somewhere else. But if you're looking for a culinary pilgrimage that will redefine your idea of "eating out," then you've found your Mecca. We went all-in on the chef's tasting menu at Le Clan, and I can honestly say it was one of the most incredible meals of my life. Each of the six courses was a work of art—a beautiful, delicious love letter to Quebec's heritage, all made with hyper-local ingredients. But what makes Le Clan truly special is the narrative that accompanies each dish. Our server didn't just bring us food; they delivered a story, a history lesson, and a passionate explanation of the "why" behind every bite. It was an experience that engaged all the senses, from the first course to the last. The service was impeccable—super friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and perfectly tuned to the rhythm of our evening. This isn't just dinner; it's a one-of-a-kind adventure. So, if you consider yourself a true foodie, do yourself a favor and book a reservation. Your taste buds—and your inner history buff—will thank you.

Google
Sometimes you just find a restaurant that hits the ball out of the park (so to speak) - this one did not fail to do that the time I went for a lunch with a friend. Mathew the server was professional, who spoke English, was very knowledgeable and a perfect host/staff member. The various dishes were creative, and simply a wonderful tasting and dining experience using locally sourced ingredients. Would visit again without hesitation, just sorry I don’t live in Quebec.

Dining at Le Clan was an unforgettable experience. We chose the four-course tasting menu with wine pairings, and each dish was a showcase of local ingredients elevated through impeccable technique and creativity. The wines were expertly selected to complement each course, creating a harmonious flow of flavors from start to finish. What truly impressed us was how thoughtfully they accommodated dietary restrictions—my intolerance was handled with care and precision, without compromising the integrity of the meal. The warm, intimate setting of the heritage building paired perfectly with the attentive and passionate service, making the evening feel truly special. It was my first time there but definitely not my last.

Google
We discovered Le Clan unexpectedly during a food tour, where it was one of our tasting stops. After just that brief introduction, we knew we had to return for the full experience — and we’re so glad we did. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is something special. Entering through the kitchen, you’re greeted warmly by the staff, giving you an immediate sense of welcome and connection. It’s clear they love what they do, and that energy sets the tone for the evening. We chose the six-course tasting menu, and every dish was exceptional. Each course was beautifully plated, thoughtfully explained, and absolutely delicious. The attention to detail in presentation and flavor was top-notch. Opting for the non-alcoholic pairing was another highlight — the mocktails were perfectly matched to each course and stood out as creative, refreshing complements to the meal. Service throughout was attentive and friendly, and the whole experience felt personal and memorable. By the end of the night, we truly felt like part of the “clan.” In fact, we even ordered a shirt to mark the occasion! This was easily one of the best meals of our entire vacation. Le Clan is a must-visit if you’re in Quebec City — we’ll be back every time we’re in town.

Google
Serious gastronomy highlighting Quebec fish, meats and produce with thoughtful wine pairings, including a few less expected selections that worked wonderfully with our dinner. Come hungry and unrushed and enjoy the six course tasting menu. Shout out to the pastry chef - it was no small feat putting a memorable coda on the evening but she pulled it off with not one, not two but three sweet goodbyes. Service was professional but not at all stuffy. Highly recommended.

Google
It’s an expensive restaurant. If you don’t want to spend that much money, go at lunch time. Reservations strongly recommended. The kitchen closes at 2 but as long as you’re there by 1:45, they will serve you. That was what happened to us. For lunch you get soup/salad, an appetizer, and an entree for up to $39 Canadian dollars. You can add a dessert for an additional $5. The food was great. Strongly recommend the charcuterie board for appetizer. The asparagus risotto was wonderful and the halibut tail was fresh.

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences we've ever had! A true French encounter. We got the six course meal, which were various delicacies from the area. The wait staff is exceptional across the board - especially Stephanie. Shout out to the pastry chef, Josh!!! Nourriture excellente xoxoxo {{*.*}}

Yelp
One of my goals while visiting Quebec City was to have some fabulous French food, and Le Clan exceeded all expectations! I thought we were in the wrong entrance because when we walked in, the kitchen was right in front of us. Immediately, they saw that my sister- in- law was in a wheelchair and offered the chef's table, which is downstairs. All other seating is upstairs. What a fortunate turn of events that was. We were lucky enough to watch the chefs at work. The whole staff was so warm and welcoming and our waitress, Lucy, was absolutely lovely! When my sister-in-law had to negotiate the stairs to use the restroom, the chef/ owner himself escorted her. When my sister- in- law protested, he would not take no for an answer. He simply responded, "My pleasure!" Now the food! We had the 3 course menu which was so economical and absolutely delicious! It was as good if not better than any food I've had in Napa, San Francisco, or New York. If you have a couple of hours for a great meal and an incredible experience, you must go to Le Clan. Also, check out the table with the elm tree that grew around a cannon ball.

Yelp
We were only in town for one night, and this was the best place we could have chosen for dinner. The aesthetic was a unique, upscale dining room decked out with fantastical jackalopes. Our waitress did a great job walking us through the menu and tending to us. She was very knowledgeable about the chef and the ingredients and was very pleasureful to talk to. We chose the 6 course tasting menu and we couldn't have asked for more creativity and exquisite tastes at this price point. A must visit for a fine dining experience in Quebec City!

Yelp
What a great meal in the heart of Quebec City! It was only a few blocks away from our hotel which was very convenient and when you arrive, you walk past the kitchen and up the stairs (we also noticed they have a chefs table next to the kitchen). You can choose 4 or 6 courses but that's the only choice you get! The meal is a complete surprise (though the menu was rolled up in a little holder on the table if we wanted a sneak peak to what was coming) which really gives the kitchen creativity. I chose the 4, my husband the 6. They were also very accommodating with me being pregnant, offering mocktails and making sure things were cooked through which I appreciated. The "mushroom" dessert was my favorite though - it was absolutely delicious and so fun. A few small things - they seemed to have a hard time regulating the air temperature. For most of the meal we were warm and then half way through the air came on and it was cooler, but then turned off and it got warm again. We also sat next to a large table of 7 who got louder as their drinks flowed but their dishes definitely held up the kitchen. We weren't in a rush or anything but noticed some of our dishes taking longer because of the big table.

Yelp
From start to finish we had a wonderful experience we had at Le Clan. The service is spot on, exactly what you would expect. We got a great story to setup the meal, the chefs story and love of fishing and hunting. Why the meal was setup the way it was, and a request to let the menu be a secret, the courses unwind before us. The starter was a lovely morsel of wagu pastrami and we then transitioned to to the shrimp pancake appetizer. Two fish courses of smoked sturgeon and walleye followed. Each delicious, perfectly balanced. Transition to the meat course of rabbit medallions. Superfluity tender, just melting in your mouth. The main meat course was a succulent veal tenderloin. Tender and juicy, full of flavor. Desert was equally amazing. A little dark chocolate pre-desert to transition the pallet. Then a desert mushroom with a crunchy meringue base, mouse like top and chocolate finish covering. A meal that was up there with some of the best!

Yelp
We called and received a same day reservation on a Tuesday evening, and were the last guests to be seated in the cozy main dining room of Le Clan. Antoine, the sommelier, greeted us unassumingly, letting us know our table was almost ready and that Julia would be our server for the evening. And oh what an evening... Julia carefully explained the 4-course, 6-course, and a la cart menu as well as the wine pairings to go with each and gracefully accepted my wish to substitute veal for something else. In the end, we chose one 4-course plus oysters a la carte with the 4-course "exceptional" wine pairings and one 6-course with the 6-course pairings. Oooh la la ... la la la la! Antoine came over to explain the wines and has an encyclopedic knowledge of wines, the varietal grapes, the geology and geography of France and Spain, even managing to come up with the flavor one of the exceptional wines reminded me of (a white priorat), and ever increasing array of dazzling and fascinating wines to sample with the meal. Formidable! And the food... also one of the best meals in my life. Look at the photos and then GO! You will not be disappointed no matter how high your standards aim - simply MAGNIFIQUE!

Yelp
Doesn't look like much from the street. But once you walk upstairs, you feel like you've been transported to a completely different place. We had the 6 course menu with a wine pairing. Each course was exquisite and the wine pairing was perfection. Our server Julie explained every dish and pairing. Pace was slow compared to "normal" restaurants but it allowed for us to thoroughly enjoy each portion of the evening. It's a bit pricey but so worth it!

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. I'm glad I saw the gentleman standing outside the door so I knew they were open! (Yelps hours were not updated). First, the greeter explains the menu so that you know what to expect before getting a table. When you walk in, you see the kitchen. The host then pushes a button on the door and the door opens to a stairway. At the top of the stairs is another host to seat you. I was alone and they sat me at a high top table that kind of overlooked the room. I felt a bit on display, but it was super comfortable and cozy. My server, Yulia was phenomenal! She was adorable and clearly explained the menu and the course options. She was such a great salesperson that I definitely over ordered. I started with a glass of champagne and oysters. The oysters were fresh and so tasty. There was no rushing here-they gave time to enjoy every bite and explained the origins of the food in each course and described all ingredients. I chose the 4 course meal with the lower priced wine paring. The wines all went perfectly with each course. For the 4 course meal, they brought out a beef tartare tartelette. This might have been my favorite! I then had the mussel flan with a fresh mussel on top. It was so good. And the bread they give you is truly irresistible! The next course was the salmon which was probably my true favorite. So fresh, flavorful. The next course was the veal. It was well seasoned, but it was a bit rare for me. It was probably my least favorite but I think a lot of people would like it. Before the 4th course, dessert, they gave me a pre dessert! Another favorite-it was basically a lychee ball in liqueur and I could have eaten a big bowl of it! The dessert was a road trip in Quebec with ingredients from different areas. I really liked the one that was ice cream like (the white one). This was an incredible experience and was worth every penny. The service was outstanding and j would highly recommend you try Le Clan while in Quebec City!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing experience. What a jewel- the restaurant was elegant, Jeromy our Host was so inviting & knowledgeable of each dish we were served. A 19 small plates course. The food, all the entrees, was amazing. Jeromy went into detail if each plate. Wish I could remember the Manager's name, he was very inviting, very proud of the restaurant. Restaurant is very elegant, quiet and clean. The staff very friendly. Perfect

Yelp
The ambience and service are outstanding. Our group of three shared the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Not only was the food tasty, well prepared, and well presented, but the wines- with one exception- definitely were well chosen to enhance the flavors of each course. Definitely worth the expense for a special occasion or night out in Old Quebec City!

Yelp
Spectacular meal, all made with local Quebec ingredients. Highlights included the Arctic Char that was cured in salt until half-cooked and then sous vide until perfect, the guinea fowl cooked until absolutely silky and served with rosemary hollandaise and porcini mushroom puree, and the sasparilla cheesecake "Smurf House". Wonderful meal. Best I've had (so far) in QC.

Yelp
My husband and I visited from Florida and made it a point to have a date night at this beautiful restaurant. I must say I have eaten all over the world and had the privilege of eating at fantastic and highly rated restaurants. The service and servers were extremely knowledgeable and unbelievable. I should also mention, I have never in my life had a dish as good as the arctic char offered this evening. I cannot stop talking about that dish, c'est incroyable. We cannot thank Chef Modat and the staff enough, this was a night and dinner we will never forget. Merci beaucoup, thank you all.

Yelp
One of the most memorable meals we've ever had. You enter the restaurant on the ground floor, almost feeling like you are walking into the open kitchen. Then you are "swept" upstairs to the unique and beautiful dining room. The service was the best we have ever experienced - friendly and knowledgeable. We opted for the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Each course (starting from the beautiful wagyu beef tartare amuse bouche) was both beautiful and delicious. The first course was asparagus. The second and third were fish dishes (the third course in particular was a work of art). Next was a unique poultry dish (I think pheasant, but I can't remember) followed by a tender medallion of veal. The dessert course was a journey unto itself. We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Yelp
A gourmet three course lunch experience on a Friday for $26CAD? Are you kidding me? For some reason, it is not advertised on their website, but it's there! Excellent food with great friendly service. Best deal in Old Quebec!! HIGHLY recommend!!

Priya R.

Yelp
As a vegetarian who also eats fish, I felt incredibly welcomed by the wait staff. They were so generous with their time in helping me understand the menu and reassuring me that they would make everything to accommodate my dietary restrictions. And the food itself -- my goodness, this was an incredible meal!! Every dish was delicious in its own right. I was so full by the end, but I couldn't resist finishing everything on the plate. A side note - I also LOVED the plates and cutlery. I found myself observing the food as well as the plates/presentation in equal measure (which is not typical for me!). The ambiance was also great - very warm and inviting. Please make this a priority on your next trip to Quebec City -- I can't recommend it highly enough!

Eric R.

Yelp
The food was good but mediocre for the price. We were spoiled by dining at another tasting menu restaurant two days earlier. The "surprise" was not there and while our server was good, she was not great. Bread dishes and butter left until the dinner plates were cleared, Water was empty and not replaced. 2 hours and 15 min for a four course tasting menu was way to long. Kind of left us disappointed after high expectations.

Yelp
My wife and I enjoyed the best meal, wine pairing and service we have ever had in North America (and probably anywhere, including our 7 years while living in Europe) with a 6 course delicious food and wine pairing. We chose Le Clan, based on the recommendation from my hotel Manoir d'Auteil and reading the outstanding reviews, to celebrate notre 50e anniversary de mariage. The whole team, especially the sommelier Antoine and the server Thomas, were gracious and knowledgable. This reflects the outstanding culture apparently created and maintained by management. Every course and wine selection was perfect - with thorough and helpful explanations by team members, especially Antoine. Merci Beaucoup to the entire team!

Lauren S.

Yelp
My husband and I visited Q City in August 2023. Though we have travelled Canada extensively, and dined in many top restaurants including both here, and aboard in Europe - this THIS was most certainly one to give the others a run for their money. By luck, when the Grand Feux displays were cancelled we were seeking a rainy evening activity that would please our palates and BAM there was a last minute table available at the end of the night. Recommended in the Fairmont Chateau activity guide (for damn good reason!!) we went for it. We settled on the 4 course tasting with wine pairings and let me tell you - it did not disappoint. We have dined at Michelin stars all over the world and this little gem is right up there. Everything source local, beautiful flavours, rich wines - service fantastic. Our sweet server Thomas boasted about the wines, including the dessert selection from Lyon which he spoke fondly of as his home town. Peak dining - don't ask questions just slam your credit card down and put the food in your face hole. You will NOT regret it. Actually, our only regret is that we didn't do the 6-course!! Stones throw from our room at the Fairmont, quiet, classy, dressy casual - it was a knock out. I will come back to QCity JUST FOR THIS PLACE! VIVE LE QUEBEC !!!!

Ryan C.

Yelp
Perfect. Literally, perfect. Artfully crafted menu and wine pairings. Top notch cocktails. Incredible atmosphere. Service that sets the bar for others to follow. The absolute best of Quebec on a plate. Farm to table, adventurous and refined. Shout out to Johnathan who made our anniversary and first trip to Le Clan spectacular. This is the place. Just go. Best of the best!

Marek L.

Yelp
Walked by Le Clan early in the morning while exploring Quebec City and liked what I saw thru the window looking into the kitchen. By 6:30 that evening I was about to experience the best epicurean experience since I moved the the East Coast from CA. Every staff member was professional and nice, not overdone. Kudos to the hirer. Successful wine paring, sommelier introduced us to some rare Spanish wine from the Basque region and a rare varietal from the Piemonte area of Italy. Now for the food. Five stars all around from the first to the last bite. Presentation, temperature, flavor, spot-on. Quebec City is becoming one of my favorite places to visit and I will go back to Le Clan, this time I will plan ahead.

Yelp
Fantastic tasting menu and appropriately attentive staff. The entire experience will be long remembered as one of my best dining experiences anywhere ever. Bravo!

Yelp
