"This neighborhood bistro run by a young French chef has a classic decor that is given a lift by the light fittings, orange banquettes and a 1980s playlist. From the large blackboard on the wall, you get a sense of the chef's respect for the seasons, even as he seeks to surprise his guests. The Arctic char crudo is boosted by an invigorating and spicy leche de tigre; the cod meunière is accompanied by a tasty prawn cream. Polenta gnocchi with mushrooms fromQuébecare the chef's specialty. Customers bring their own wine bottles. The restaurant is open every evening, seven days a week." - Michelin Inspector

The Best New Restaurants in Montreal, January 2023 | Eater Montreal

"Say hello to Villeray’s newest culinary destination, Les Mômes. Chef Yoann Van Den Berg brings expertise from big-name fine dining restaurants like Europea and Pastel, but this endeavour conjures more of a dinner party vibe. It’s a BYOB, with a small, ever-changing menu driven by French influences, local ingredients, and a sustainability mindset. Cromesqui (fritters), foie gras with prunes and ginger, PEI beef with celeriac, and polenta-based gnocchi with eggplant and burrata are examples of what’s been served." - Valerie Silva

Montreal’s Most Anticipated New Restaurant Openings, Fall 2022 | Eater Montreal

"French fine-dining techniques will meet a homey BYOB atmosphere in this Villeray project from chef Yoann Van Den Berg (with stints at Europea, Le Fantôme and Pastel) and Marie Van Den Berg; expect a concise three-course menu that shows playful irreverence toward tradition and a deep admiration for local produce." - Valerie Silva

It’s a bring your own wine restaurant. The service was great. Nice staff. We reserved a week in advance. We chose Table d’hôte for $80 per person. The amusement-buche was arachini, fried rice ball. It was delicious. I had the grilled pieuvre started. It was very tender and tasty. The main dish was Wellington Beef. It was the star of the night. I had chocolate mousse for dessert. It was savory but I think it could have been better. In general it was a special night. We liked it.

Google
During our trip to Montreal, we chose this restaurant after doing some research for a nice dining experience. The flavors of the dishes were absolutely amazing, but the portion sizes were quite disappointing. I’ve been to restaurants of this level before, and for one that has a Michelin Guide recognition, I found it surprising since Michelin also considers whether the dishes are satisfying. We tried the tasting menu and, honestly, we were not impressed. Another important point: at restaurants of this caliber, the explanation of each dish is essential. Unfortunately, the staff did not present or describe the dishes in the way we expected.

Les Mômes strikes a balance between casual dining and an elevated menu, making it an excellent choice for group celebrations. While it doesn't venture far into culinary innovation, the dishes are a testament to well-executed Western European classics, such as the beef Wellington. That said, for the price point, a touch more refinement in the service would enhance the experience. For example, providing menus for every guest and replacing cutlery between courses. On the bright side, thoughtful details like complimentary warm bread and pitted, heated olives added a layer of care that didn’t go unnoticed. Overall, despite minor service hiccups, Les Mômes left a positive impression, and I’d happily return to explore their tasting menu.

I tried their pulled pork sandwich at a food festival and couldn’t even finish half due to the unappetizing taste and texture. Another person saw my partially-eaten sandwich, came up to me and said the same, saying that her family had already complained and the staff didn't care. I went back and politely told them it tasted "off", but the woman was defensive, dismissive, and blamed it on my own personal preference. She claimed there was nothing wrong since I was the first to mention anything (which was obviously a lie). When I told her I spoke to the other customer she suddenly backtracked on that story, but still doubled-down on saying the issue was with me. I rarely complain about food, and this clearly wasn’t just a preference issue. I wasn’t even asking for a refund, just trying to give feedback. But the lack of empathy, accountability, or even a basic apology made the whole experience much worse than it needed to be.

Google
Great food, everything we had was wonderful but the deserts were exceptional , very good value for money , as it is BYOB we were able to match these great food with a nice wine without spending a fortune.

Google
The décor is nice, the staff was very friendly and helped us figure out the menu. Our waitress even brought us more sauce which she didn’t have to do. However the food was somewhat disappointing. Although the octopus was to die for, everything else was very ok at most. The beef tataki was made with stringy poor quality meat, it was very hard to chew and swallow, and the portions were very hard to justify given the prices. It cost us 200$ for the two of us (no drinks cost btw it’s byob) for a very average standard three course meal, and we left hungry.

Food was absolutely delicious. We took the tasting menu Service could have been a little more attentive. Plate explanation was appreciated and well done.

Yelp
Found this place online and so happy I did! The food was sooo good and it's run by a sweet couple. Had the steak which was super tender and the gnocchi. It's a little out of the way from Old Montréal but worth the trip! Also it's BYOB, highly recommend and look forward to going again!
