OXA

"The pretty suburb of Oxton is home to this attractive neighbourhood bistro which offers an appealing selection of small plates and sharing dishes, as well as an excellent value lunch menu. Cooking has a British base and the occasional Asian touch, with dishes such as tuna with dashi and onions providing great depth of flavour. There’s a lovely atmosphere about the place and the interesting wine list features almost exclusively British choices." - Michelin Inspector

Very reasonably priced tasting menu with accompanying wines. Each course was unique and delicious. My fav was the pork which is surprising because I don’t usually eat pork! It was lush. Great wine pairings. Staff were ace. We had an excellent night and would recommend

We had a gorgeous Friday night dinner here. The food itself was to such a high standard, we were so impressed. Every course was a delight. Our waiter was lovely and friendly and engaged with us throughout, explaining the flavours and wines and chatting effortlessly. Both of the chefs also served some courses which we loved, as we got a chance to see who was making the food! The place was quite empty, only us and one other table, although I overheard it was booked up the following week. Great experience and great restaurant!

We had a very enjoyable experience at OXA. The menu was well balanced, with some great flavours and ingredients. The service was very warm, with a good pace between courses and a relaxed atmosphere. We would love to try some of Andrew Sheridan's other venues. Thanks also to Jake and the team.

Every mouthful was an absolute delight in the tasting menu. Taste profiles, ingredient combinations and textures with great and complimentary wine pairing was just lovely. We especially appreciated the care taken of allergens for our coeliac and the inventiveness used to ensure a very special experience for her also.

Amazing experience, food is off the scale good and they are Michelin for a reason. The food menu changes seasonally for the best and most local ingredients, which are then used fantastically. The wine pairing was very clever too, genuine linking to the food and most places can't get that bit right. Small, busy, fantastic waiting staff who really understand the meaning of hosting and making sure the entire experience from arrival to departure is a cracker.

This review is solely for the accuracy of this Google profile. It says that the restaurant is open from 1700 on a Monday but when I got there at 1715, as you can see from my photos, there's no food until 1930 on Tuesday. Photos of the menu attached too. Free on street parking (after 1700)

A gorgeous Michelin recommended neighbourhood restaurant in Oxton, Wirral, @restaurantoxa is headed up by @chef_andrew_sheridan and @jake12smi12_chef and was our venue of choice to celebrate me getting back on the transplant list last week. We went for the 8 course tasting menu at £80 each and Chef was more than happy to adapt the courses for Steve’s allergies. He even got a few treats that I didn’t! 🦪Chef’s Snacks 🥖OXA Sourdough 🐐Goats Cheese, Pickled Beetroot 🐟Hake, Cornish Mussels, Cauliflower 🐷Salt Aged Pork, Spilmans Asparagus, Carrot 🥭Passion Fruit 🍫Valrhona Chocolate, Herefordshire Strawberry 🧀Yorkshire Blue, Pickled Shallot Being presented with oysters was a great start as we’ve not had them in ages and the gluten free bread went down a treat. I’m now obsessed with Marmite butter too! The Hake was incredible and the little pot of passionfruit was just beautiful. All in all this was a fabulous experience in such a nice, relaxed setting. The staff were very personable and Chef brought every course to us with an explanation of what it was. The menu changes with the seasons so we will have to come back next time it switches up! Any excuse hey.

Last night I had the vegan 6 course menu and accompanying wine flight. It was mainly ok and two of the dishes were incredible. Unfortunately the two sweets were really, really disappointing. When I saw what the others at my table had compared to mine I was really disappointed. They had multiple beautiful components presented stunningly and I had a half filled pot of chocolate with chopped up strawberry and almonds on top. There was nothing special about it at all. I make that at home with avocado. So that let the meal down a bit. However, as I said earlier the savoury courses were phenomenal! Unfortunately the main issue was the service. It was SO slow and the whole experience took 3 hours. There was a wait of 40 minutes between the 5th and 6th course and because the wine came with the course we had no drinks either. So overall I had an ok experience but was excited to leave and we all had a sandwich when we got home. I've attached pics of three great savoury vegan dishes and the comparatively disappointing vegan dessert. EDIT: I bought a vegan chocolate pot from tesco the other day and said to my gf this actually has more flavour and better texture than that chocolate dessert I had at OXA! It is true!
