2 Days in Dublin

"If you fancy going all out for your last dinner in Dublin, Patrick Guilbaud is one of only two restaurants in the city which holds Two MICHELIN Stars. A truly special place, it has been a leading light in Irish gastronomy for decades. The cooking is classically French in base, thanks to its eponymous founder, but has done a brilliant job of keeping up with the times. What’s more, it’s located within the luxurious The Merrion hotel, making it ideal if you’ve already chosen this as your base." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Patrick Guilbaud

"This iconic restaurant has been thriving since 1981, thanks to both the eponymous chef and the exceptional team he has around him. It sits hidden away within a Georgian townhouse and oozes sumptuousness and sophistication thanks to features such as a gilt barrel ceiling and hand-crafted marquetry. The accomplished cooking isn’t to be upstaged, however: it is French at heart yet has a restrained modernity and showcases some bold yet superbly balanced flavours. The Irish ingredients are certainly luxurious, and both the wine cellar and the wine list are works of art." - Michelin Inspector

"Starched white linen, stellar service and consistently delicious food are what keeps diners returning to this two-Michelin-starred institution in the luxurious Merrion Hotel. The emphasis is on Irish produce paired with classical French cooking—think an artfully presented plate of Clogherhead lobster ravioli. In-the-know locals book for the excellent value lunch."

By far the best food and service I have ever had in my entire life. Every dish was a culinary delight 11/10. Unbelievably good and well worth the money. I think this is my favorite restaurant I've ever been too. Will definitely be back. I couldn't recommend enough. Brilliant. Just Brilliant!

The food at this Michelin restaurant was simply outstanding — every dish was so delicious that there’s not much more to say; it really lived up to its reputation. However, the dessert didn’t quite impress me and felt like a step down compared to the rest of the meal. One thing that left a negative impression was the service. There was a man, possibly the manager, who was walking around and engaging warmly with customers at almost every table. Strangely, he skipped our table and another with young Asian couples, despite us making eye contact and there being a quiet moment. It felt uncomfortable and left us wondering whether we were being intentionally overlooked. For a place of this calibre, you expect warm, inclusive hospitality — and unfortunately, that part missed the mark.

Simply amazing! The food is a taste adventure, pure deliciousness! The service is excellent, friendly informative staff. Wonderful atmosphere. Patrick I'm sure is very proud of this restaurant still hitting the high notes after all these years.

Google
Fine dining at its absolute best! I’m a huge foodie and have been to quite a few Michelin restaurants. I’ve had this place on my radar for years and finally got to experience it while visiting Ireland. Of course, the food is delicious and the quality of service and the atmosphere and ambience is one of a kind. The staff are all top notch and I must give a special shout out to Diego who was absolutely wonderful and made my wife and I feel so special. They truly elevate the experience to a whole new level of art. A lovely man sat down next to us and asked us how our experience was and my wife said “Oh it’s lovely, are you the manager?” And he said “I’m Patrick Guilbaud.” He was so humble and warm and welcoming and chatted with us and took photos too so that was a perfect cherry on top. Worth every penny ten times over! 🍽️ 😋 ❤️

Google
Michelin star restaurant with top rated service 😂. Five stars to the team of hosts who made us feel very welcome. Kudos to the team and well done to my amazing colleagues who chose this place. And to the customer we had the pleasure of spending time with, thank you again for giving up your lunch time to be with us.

Impeccable attention to detail! The food was as inviting on the eyes as it was delicious! This experience was an amazing part of an incredible vacation and punctuates all of our positive memories of our trip. We cannot say enough to do justice to how much we enjoyed it!

A couple of months before the reservation my wife asked them if they can accommodate a guest with gluten allergies. Response was of course we can. A couple of weeks before she asked again and the response was definitely. The day before arriving (we were staying at the hotel and the restaurant is inside the hotel) again she let the restaurant know. We arrived and they Literally had no idea. What? Oh dear, you are gluten free? Oh my, okay we will let the chef know and we will see what he can do. Three times not once not twice but three times servers put a gluten item in front of her. I can show you a one star Michelin restaurant in Los Angeles that keeps track of what item and preferences each and every guest they have ever served since day one! Presentations were very nice. Their tiny baguette and butter was my favorite. I can go to Bastible with no star and one third of the expense and get a better meal. To be fair their lamb dish was very tasteful. I waited two weeks to write this as I didn’t want to write this. A beautiful presentation of chocolates. That was a wow! I liked the art pieces on the tables.

Google
Service here is second to none. Some of the most amazing front of house and wait team I have ever encountered. Good food, cooked well although - a little out dated for Dublin. Atmosphere can be good, but often empty tables can leave the ambience lacking. A very reliable dinner/ lunch in Dublin. Would I go often, no, you can get same, yet more exciting Michelin star quality food in Dublin.

Yelp
This restaurant is a class act from arrival to departure. It deserves the 2 star Michelin recognition. I've been to many restaurants that are highly rated that dont live up to the hype, but this one does. Once you arrive you have the option to enjoy a cocktail in the bar/waiting room or go directly to your table. We opted to go straight to our table. You are then given the choice to select a 3, 4, or 5 course menu. You select the courses you want from each of the sections. Favorite Dishes 24 month comte tortellini Hand dived scallops Ravioli of blue lobster Irish Beef Fillet Don't miss out on the bread - freshly made onion sourdough and tasty baguettes. If anything, I'd skip the dessert and double up on the 1st course items. There will be plenty amuse bouches, palate cleansers, and petit fours (and chocolate truffles) to hit your sweet spot. We overdid it on the desserts, so save room! The wine list was great and they had wonderful options by the glass. We also partook in a few a cocktails and they were stellar (super balanced). This was probably one of the best dining experiences I had during my 2 weeks traveling around Ireland.

Yelp
This was an unforgettable dining experience to be sure and completely worth the splurge to not only get to experience 2-star Michelin food but also that level of service. The restaurant has romantic low lighting with generous spacing between tables for intimate conversation. The simplistic art and wall designs had an elegant upscale contemporary feel. My friend and I ditched our husbands for the night to treat ourselves to this luxurious experience. The kitchen had no issue substituting ingredients for my gluten allergy and made it absolutely zero effort on my part. I had alerted them when making the reservation, and in every course that came out, they addressed the safety in regards to my allergy. The food was superb. Artfully plated and presented and intricate in every detail. The 8 course tasting menu had many bonus courses as is customary with many prix fixe menus. Portion sizes were perfect, and there were so many of them we actually had to box up dessert we were so full. My favorite course was the venison, which was executed perfectly. Upon equal par to the gastronomic experience was the service. My friend and I have never felt so well attended to in our lives. You stand to go to the restroom, and someone is at your side to guide you. Need to take off your cardigan? Someone has magically appeared behind you to assist. I never had to touch my napkin..it was placed and replaced (if I got up) in my lap like some form of sorcery. The gentlemen serving us were beyond polite, professional, and masterful at their craft. If I find myself in Dublin in the future, I have no doubt that returning will be at the top of my priority list.

Yelp
One of the best dining and food experiences ever. We have been to some great places during our travels but this night was almost perfect. Seriously!!! Maybe the wonderful company of great friends made it over the top but the food and service was also truly amazing. They really know what they are doing for food, experiences, and service! No wonder they have existed for over 40 years. We enjoyed some cocktails then a tasting menu with a matching wine tasting. We ended the night on a fabulous patio with more wine. We had the food tasting along with wine paring and we all were full but didn't want the night to end. I'm still thinking thinking about the food..,I will be back soon.

Yelp
This is no doubt the best restaurant in Dublin. Located right next to Merrion hotel and Michelin two star rating. I had scallops for appetizers and blue lobster as a main. One of the best lobster dish I ever had. Not too chewy and perfectly seasoned. Sauce was not overwhelming and complemented lobster. My BF had veal dish he loved. He had chocolate tart and he almost leaked the plate at the end. My orange soufflé was reflecting and airy. Patric himself made a round and greeted all the guest was very nice gesture. Highly recommend for special night.

Yelp
My husband and I came here a few months ago while we were in Dublin for the weekend. We came for lunch and had an amazing experience and thought the value for the amount of food was very good. The restaurant is beautiful, with high ceilings and an open air feeling. The service was also impeccable and the presentation of the food was great - see pics posted. Make sure to come a little early to walk around the hotel, which is lovely.

Yelp
Awesome food, average-poor service. We were forgotten about multiple times and watched as other tables got faster more attentive service. We probably could have gotten up and left without paying and they wouldn't even have noticed, to be honest.

Yelp
PG Restaurant is the only 2-star Michelin restaurant in Dublin city. There's a lot of hype that comes with that, and in my experience, the menu I tried did not live up to the hype. I was satisfied with my experience, but of the three Michelin restaurants I dined at in my time in Dublin, I would recommend PG least. The menu has changed a bit since I dined there but here's what I ordered: -tomato sorbet and feta cheese: This was actually the highlight of the menu for me. The tomato and feta go so well together..it's such an expected combination, but the coldness of the sorbet throws you off, adding an unexpected element to something that should be business as usually. I felt inspire after trying this small, simple starter. -ravioli with blue lobster: A bit disappointed by this dish. The ravioli was bland and the lobster meat was minimal. -veal and mushroom: This was a lovely dish, definitely bounced back from the previous one, but I've had better veal elsewhere. However, I really appreciated the portion of mashed potatoes that came with it. Without the potatoes, I would've been so hungry afterwards. Overall, I thought there wasn't a clear vision with the menu...it didn't really come together. The owner of the restaurant came over to my table mid-meal and I was able to ask him about the chef's vision. What he said surprised me: "We believe food should look like what it actually is and tastes like." I didn't really buy into that answer. Overall, I would choose a few other Michelin restaurants over PG. I thought the cost was way too high and there was a lack of direction with the menu.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed our time at this restaurant. Exceptional service and welcoming smiles from the staff. The food was a delight and made my trip of a few days memorable. We were there for a birthday celebration for a long time dear friend, they definately made it a very special evening. It was a huge treat to meet Mr. Guilbaud also and get a group photo with him.

Yelp
The Patrick Guilbaud restaurant was my first experience at a 2 star Michelin rated restaurant. I was later to learn that they are the only Michelin 2 star rated restaurant in Ireland. I was not prepared for the cold weather so I only had my Steelers jacket. I took it off before going into the restaurant because I was sure that I will soon be met by an opulent atmosphere. Sure enough the coat check girl took my jacket with a smile and we were lead to the entryway bar area and offered something from the champagne cart. We were given our dinner menus and served blue cheese puffs. The waiter took our order and soon thereafter lead us to a table in the main dining area. I had the raw oysters on the half shell and steak. Atmosphere, service and food were all amazing. Be sure to take a short walk to the back of the restaurant and check out the wine room and solarium. It was too cold to sit in the Solarium but it looks like a great place to chill if it was a little warmer. Strongly recommended! See my many pictures!

Yelp
Ignoring other reviews, at the time of dining (2019) PG is the only 2 star in all of Dublin, and it stands out in terms of fine dining. The service was that of a 3 star, the staff extremely attentive and caring. I had just finished having a long day - left exhausted, so their attention to my needs was comforting and made me feel welcome amongst their clientele. Many of the diners were dressed very well and very proper, so for a young person wearing a simple outfit to still be treated with respect and attention places this venue very highly on my list. The entire chefs tasting menu was stellar in many ways. Their plates used were all very simple, but the plating of the actual food was gorgeous and picture perfect. Simple things like a bread on a sauce looked like a magazine cover, while protein dishes like the crab wrapped in vegetable had style and elegance. Their green bean and truffle was so gorgeous, incredibly seasoned with a delightful crisp and all the right textures. Other dishes like the pasta covered in black truffle looked unique and earthy, juxtaposed atop the white plate. The primary protein dish looked playful and tasty, many colors on the plate and the meat had a little ravioli "hat". Besides all the dishes being a great mix of being fresh, savory, buttery - there was multiple taste buds being exposed with the sauces and creams. Also, one of the best chocolate deserts I've ever had - while the gold isn't my style, still looked gorgeous and will please many. Everything PG did was done with excellence and class, being one of the best restaurants I've visited EMEA. Very highly recommended.

Yelp
My first 2 Michelin star experience and I am not sure what elevated here compared to the three 1 star restaurants I have eaten at. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. The dining room is stunning. The wine pairing with 4 course was 90eiro pp. The food was as you would expect but my Souffle was very eggy and not for me. The wine pairing were well thought out and the sommelier was super friendly and knowledgeable. 600e for 2 people with wine. Hefty price tag indeed just not quite the 5 stars I expected

Yelp
Elegant room, GREAT staff, fabulous wines and very well finished plates. Started with the Deutz blanc de blanc. Absolutely killer. Order in the bar area while drinking the champagne. Staff was brilliant. Had a mousse of salmon, pheasant and partridge pie and The large plates were the seabass with fennel and truffle and the slow cooked lamb loin and neck. I found the lamb interesting, but dull, and the seabass more interesting. Both were under seasoned to me, but clearly what was intended. Three petit fours each and then time for another amuse bouche. Oh, yes... the Marsannay. Great bottle 2015 and even better price. If you like perfectly stored burgundy, you'd love this. It opened softer, and was just what we wanted. Time for a tip, we added 15% and it seemed right to us given the meal. In all 400E. It would have been twice that plus for dinner with more wine. Glad we went for lunch. Sad we didn't go for dinner. Terrific time. Will remember well.

Yelp
Patrick Guilbaud is absolutely the best -hands down- restaurant in Dublin! This is a 'mecca' for foodies in Ireland and for those who want an extraordinary dining experience. Here's what I ordered and enjoyed: lobster ravioli, black fillet of sole, and peanut chocolate salted caramel dessert, all paired with lovely french white wines selected by the sommelier. Here's what they added (on the house): blue cheese filled pastry balls; bacon onion rolls, rosemary and tomato fennel rolls; crusted walnut in coconut cream; beautiful petit fours; and dark chocolate caramel truffels. It's these extra complimentary items that literally *add* to the experience! We left feeling completely satisfied yet not over-stuffed. This is an experience of tasting some amazing flavors in an artistically designed contemporary dining room. Start off with drinks in the 'Aqua room' - you'll feel like you've entered a Picasso blue period painting. Then enjoy the lovely dining room space. Ask for a crescent shaped 'booth' as the sweet real estate will give you quite a view of the room. To top it all off, Mr. Guilbaud himself vists each table to welcome you to his restaurant. Now that's class! Yes, it comes with a bit of a higher price tag but once in a while a bucket-list dinner is in order!

Yelp
Well done and clearly they've earned their two Michelin stars and 289th place on La Listes Worlds 1000 best. The warm, light dining room was clean and neat and filled with natural light. The staff was beyond exceptional. Well informed of everything they were servicing down to every piece of cheese and glass of wine. Make reservations in advance. I had lunch at 1pm on a Tuesday. My sister and I did the three course lunch and for €60 per person well worth it. The menu changes daily. The portions aren't gigantic but with three courses and tea it's filling and delicious down to every bite. Ireland's best restaurant! Must eat! And that's all I have to say about that. Jackée

Yelp
This place's reputation speaks for itself. It's just been awarded the RAI best restaurant in Ireland and is Ireland's only 2 Michelin star restaurant. I brought my 9 year old nephew here for lunch last month and he absolutely adored it. He was overwhelmed by the food giving his fish course "12/10, even though that doesn't make any sense". He go loads of attention from the maître d' and waiting staff which was super cute and he was wide - eyed at the trappings of a such fancy restaurant: being presented a straw on a silver platter; the silver domes being simultaneously removed from our mains, his napkin being put on his lap..etc. I've been before and always had an amazing experience but I can honestly say doing something like this with a budding gourmand really made the experience so much more enjoyable. The food and service were absolutely flawless and €50 per head for the 3 - course lunch it's an absolute bargain. I've been for the dinner tasting menu as well and that came in at around €150 per head including wine. If you're seriously into your food I think Guilbaud's is a must in Dublin and the lunch is a really good value way to tick it off your list. Make sure to book well in advance as it is often booked out.

Yelp
OUTSTANDING dining experience. Worthy of its reputation, its two star Michelin rating (only such restaurant in Ireland), and its high price tag. From start to finish, this was a spectacular experience. We dined with our three children (which likely annoyed several of those dining), but the staff was as supportive and helpful as imaginable and they made our experience (despite having three small children with us), perfect and outstanding. The service was the best we have ever received. Every direction you turn at the restaurant, there is a staff member eager to assist you. Never in your way...but always ready and eager to assist. We tried their tasting menu which was delicious (and they were kind enough to make us children's meals as well). From the moment you walk through the door, you are treated as a VIP. You sit in a living room area for a drink while your table is being prepared, and although it's dressy, the atmosphere is chic rather than pretentious. Their wine list is exhaustive and their drinks are excellent. Service is the essence of perfection. You have a waiter per person at the table and they work in perfect sync to make sure everything is timed to perfection. The staff was as attentive as they come, yet remain completely unobtrusive. The food was perfect! Every dish outstanding. The price tag is ENORMOUS, but if you are looking for an incredible dining experience, this is your place! 5-Star amazingness!
google avatar

Yelp
Well worth the price and I can see why it's gained two Michelin stars. We did the eight course meal with wine pairings and it was phenomenal! I still daydream about the food.

Yelp
First Michelin rate restaurant overseas! I have to admit the service is way better than any Michelin restaurant service in the US. Maybe it's just a different culture, but the people there are a lot more polite. The meal last for about 3 hours long, which is pretty standard for a Michelin rated restaurant since they tend to serve your meals spread out so you have more time to enjoy and converse with your dining companions. Meals are brought out at the same time so that everyone can eat at the same time instead of waiting while another person is already eating. Employees escort you to the restrooms and helps fold your handkercheif while you are away. The food itself was good, but not amazing. However, the presentation was great. There are also lots of additional complimentary items for dessert. They also bring you bread occassionally.

Yelp
Patrick Guilbaud's ... now there's name - Ireland's only two star restaurant. We went there with work last week and God was I looking forward to it. Not my first Michelin star dining experience, but so far I'd only ventured into the one star league. If there's one word to describe the whole experience, it'd be classy. The service was impeccable from welcome desk (let me take that umbrella for you, sir) over champagne reception to dessert (at around midnight). We were a bit unlucky with the weather, since we had booked the terrace for our champagne reception, but it was roofed and they put up heaters to make it bearable. The (French) servant (waiter doesn't really do him justice) fit my stereotype quite well and was very courteous. We then moved on to the hotel bar to accommodate the ladies while waiting for our tables. The dinner, oh the dinner. With our group of ~25 we had arranged a 3 course menu and I chose crab cannelloni followed by steak with foie gras and the cheese plate for dessert. The food was absolutely delicious. The cannelloni were a nice combination of flavours with their sauces and the steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare, as ordered). The combination of foie gras and steak worked surprisingly well. The side of mashed potatoes was a bit too creamy for my taste. The poor service personal was in for a treat, since we switched up the tables to make sure everybody got a chance to talk to everybody and that messed up their notes as to who ordered what. But they handled it brilliantly. The dessert itself let me down quite a bit, unfortunately. The cheeses were quite pungent and that's one of my pet hates. And seeing the other dishes I deeply regretted my choice. Even though I wanted to go out of there singing "je ne regrette riens" ;-) As a matter of fact, I seem to remember that some of us were singing when we left at around midnight ... but that's probably for other reasons ;-) Why am I only giving 4 stars? First of all, I'm obviously no Michelin critic. Secondly, I expected to be blown away and that just didn't happen. I had a brilliant evening, thought the experience was excellent and stylish and will absolutely come back, but I didn't feel like the food catapulted me into a different galaxy. It was excellently executed and tasted great, but it was just that. Any other restaurant would have earned a 5 star for this. Hats off to the service though, world class. If you're looking for a special experience, maybe for a special occasion, then Patrick Guilbaud's is for you. Dress up and take your partner for a treat! Oh and make sure that you booked a table months in advance ;-)

Yelp
We were in Dublin for a short mini break and after a bit of debate about which Michelin starred restaurant would get our custom for a birthday meal Patrick Guilbaud won out. Partly because he has been around in Dublin for ages and has two stars but mainly because the €50 lunch seemed like a relative "steal" compared with the cost of an evening meal. We arrived just after 1pm and received a warm welcome from the girl on reception who took our coats and showed us through to the "lounge" where we decided to have an aperitivo before going through to the main dining room. A nice place to have a drink and muse over the menu but I can imagine that some might find it a little bit "stuffy" - worry not because the staff are all very professional and friendly so kick back and enjoy. As always with these "high end" restaurants what will kill your wallet if you are not careful is the drinks bill so proceed with caution if you are on a budget. My top tip for an aperitivo would be a glass of the very lovely fino campo de guia which is a "bargain" at €7. The wine list reads like war and peace so you might want to take some advice if you fancy something a little out of the ordinary. I didn't notice anything under €40 but there are a few decent bottles for under €60. We had a stunning St Joseph Monteillet Blanc which was a great companion to our monkfish main course and didn't break the bank. The main dining room is just lovely with high ceilings, simple classic decor, great acoustics and plenty of space between the tables. You certainly feel like you are in a two star Michelin restaurant and it's very easy to spend the whole afternoon here wining and dining. The food itself is pretty near perfect, well executed and beautifully presented. With the set lunch you will have the choice of three starters, three mains and three desserts - on our visit I could have ordered everything. Unlike many other restaurants if you want cheese this comes without a supplement and is a very generous selection of 4 cheeses from a fantastic trolley which is wheeled to your table. As the service was nearing a close Patrick himself had a wander round the room saying hi to both the regular crowd and one off visitors such as ourselves. A very nice touch and he seemed to be a genuinely likeable fella. Highly recommended for lunch and people watching.

Yelp
a great french style restaurant A very good 4+ tasting menu (98 Euro) a great amuse bouche Foie-gras was amazing Great turbot fish Very good duck, great souse and mush pre-desert tapioca - very good Petit fours - great Chocolate cake - very good I added cheese selection - exceptional, 3 stars restaurant level - non-pasteurized cheeses, like Appoise-du-bourgogne (included matching wine tasting !) good wine selection by the glass Overall - meet the expectations as a 2 stars Michelin

Yelp
The best thing that I can say about this traditional French spot is that it's incredibly convenient if you check-in late to The Merrion Hotel or you are otherwise jet lagged or tired. Otherwise, most of the food is good but some dishes are NOT. The amuse-bouche was ridiculous and so was the encyclopedic Wine List and we are publishers of a major wine & food publication. The two bottle we chose were terrible, and we utilized input from the Somm.

Yelp
Came here for their 3-course lunch menu and left full and happy. The food, service, and ambience was perfection. I ordered the lobster/chicken sausage appetizer, the fish, and the panna cotta with yuzu and rhubarb. An amuse-bouche of fois-gras with tart cherry and 6 petits-four were also served. The lobster and chicken sausage was so tender. The fish was well cooked and I loved the couscous-like side that came with it. The hubby LOVED the complimentary mashed potatoes and liked up the bowl. The panna cotta was one of the best desserts I've ever had.

Yelp
Went here with a party of four for work; and let me first off say it was none of our first time dining in a Michelin star establishment. Was told this is a 2 star restaurant, but have had better service/food at, I dare say, a local steak house. First the service--- was atrocious. The group was given their menus, and offered no explanation of the menu. We weren't certain who our actual waiter was, but when we started asking questions of wait staff, was told "a manager will have to talk to you about that." Weird. When we sat, dark napkins were not offered to any of us (wearing dark clothes), nor did any of the staff place the napkins in our lap-- I think a hallmark of a 2-3 start establishment. We ended up having to refill our own water glasses, and serve ourselves food. In fact, as one member of our party made a request, the waiter actually walked away as she was still talking. Wtf? As the eventual bathroom trips were needed, only one of us got pointed in the general direction of the facilities. Otherwise we were on our own. The wine/food pairings were not served at the same time either. And while we are on that subject... The food So for the record we all ordered the 8 course menu plus pairing. To circle back to the pairings were okay at best and at times absolutely clashed with food. One selection was almost undrinkable. We got served foie gras and the membrane had not been removed and paired terribly. When asked by the waiter if I didn't like it, I replied yes , and he just shrugged. Uumm okay. The crab roll was fishy. The lobster was clearly over cooked and chewy. We could barely cut it with our silverware. The mash potatoes served with the venison was grainy. However, we were hungry and when we wanted more, we actually had to serve ourselves from the side table. With the cheese course, my friend tried for 10 min to get a waiter, any waiters, attention to get more crackers (they had given her 2 water crackers for an entire cheese tray). The food was not innovative at all. Needless to say, I would not recommend this place at all. And the dining experience was not worth one Michelin star let alone two. To quote Michelin: a 2 star restaurant is "worth a detour, indicating excellent cuisine and skillfully and carefully crafted dishes of outstanding quality." I would recommend "carefully detouring" to the local fish n chips establishment and save yourself the time.

Yelp
Everything from the service to the venue to the food is flawless, the wine list is the best I've seen in Dublin. Yes it's expensive, but for a once in a while treat it's worth it. Treat yourself, you deserve it!

Yelp
I was extremely excited to try the cuisine as well as to experience the two star hype that the restaurant is expected to live up to. Unfortunately, I feel that the price and the quality and the service just didn't add up. Being a self professed foodie and lover of all good cuisine, I made a point to book reservations three months prior to my Dublin trip. We arrived at 6:52 for out 7pm dinner reservations. When trying to open the door, we found it locked, only to wait in the drizzle and cold until 7pm when they opened... to let other guests out. point one down. They took us to a bar waiting area that had some beautiful art but looked a little worn and dated in the sagging and stained upholstery on the lounge chairs and faded sparkles in the carpet. There they hand handed us menus. They asked us if we would like a cocktail and I ordered a Manhattan (now, I know this is not the best drink for dinner BUT I hadn't met a bartender in Dublin that could make one until now so I was rather excited). Then I noticed their selections for alcohol. They actually offered Canadian Club whiskey for my manhattan (!???). boo. Then they came around and offered us the best part of the meal. Small puffs of cheesy goodness. I was stoked... if the meal was going to be that delicious I was in for a treat! Then a server came over and asked if we were ready to order. Mind you, we were still in the waiting room (???). We placed our order. I got the lobster ravioli and the pigeon for a main. They took us into the main dining room and it was a blast from the 80's. The decor was very tasteful though. I loved the serge mouille-esqe light fixture in the main room. I could get really winded on this review but let me just sum it up. For two stars, you expect the food to be better than it was. The amuse bouche was some sort of cream over a cold gelly with meat in it. I would love to tell you what it was but the server we had didnt really speak english and had to repeat it several times and I still couldn't understand him and I gave up. Honestly, the best service we had was from the chipper young bread guy who kept giving me seaweed bread. The bread tasted good, but my mouth definitely was cut and my friend complained how hard it was too. I tried my friends risotto and it was one dimensional and overpowering in the one flavor. The lobster ravioli was good enough. The lobster cooked perfectly, but there was no hint of curry as the menu described. The pigeon was underwhelming and unbalanced as a dish. My friend had the Sole and it was extremely bland (although plated beautifully). They gave us mashed potatoes to share and while those were good, they weren't any better than my own at Thanksgiving. I tried to take photos but the lighting in there is odd and made all the photos of the entrees a little stripey. When I was asked if I would like another manhattan, I said yes and then when that finally arrived, they placed it in front of my friend. ? isnt this supposed to be one of the best restaurants in the country?? there were only two of us at the table... how hard is that? Then when I was done with that one, two separate servers asked me again if I wanted another one. If a guest declines, the first time and they are working as some sort of a team, shouldnt that be communicated to the other servers? When I visited the ladies room, there was water splashed all over. We opted out for the dessert at this point. just not impressed with the price and the quality. They did give us an assortment of small dessert items anyways. (its offered before the actual dessert course) That was nice and they had the largest box of truffles I have ever seen. But compared to what was going on before that, I was not impressed. All in all, when we asked for our bill.... and asked for it again.... and finally asked for a third time.... it finally came and we paid. The restaurant is NOT worth the hype and I hope that they take this into consideration in the future. I have been to other one stars that blew this meal out of the water. My friend and I left feeling let down.

Yelp
A group of lads (ok, confession, we are 50 somethings, but feel like lads) on tour booked here as our final dinner for a two week jaunt around the region. As reputedly Ireland's top fine dining establishment, with two Michelin stars, we had high expectations indeed. And these match the prices, of course. We are definitely The Hard Table, as we are all seasoned fine dining acolytes with experience around the world. So, it is in this light that I award only 4 stars to this fine establishment. Seriously, it could have been 5, but you see when you have very high standards to live up to, well, you need to live up to them. The restaurant itself is in a hotel and has a rather interesting waiting area that is essentially a lounge room. A drink is to be had while waiting and then through to the restaurant itself, which is well designed and beautifully fitted out. Each table is highlighted in a pool of light and the sound is suitably muted. The maitre'd was very helpful and before long we have ordered food and some wine is on the way. However, it all felt a tiny bit rushed and disorganised. This came to a head when after tasting and approving of a suitably expensive white wine the server filled all of our glasses - and the tasting glass. And didn't notice. Whoops. So five glasses of an exquisite wine for 4 people - ok you say, a small enough mistake, and I agree. But nevertheless, a small strike one there - it was very expensive wine. However, the next issue was more challenging. After some bread and an amuse bouche our first course of lobster tail arrived. It looked beautiful. It was, regrettably, very tough. In fact, almost too tough to eat. But eat it we did. Strike two. One of our party, on a trip to the amenities, alerted the maitre'd to the fact that they needed to lift their game, explaining why. In short order the next bottle of wine we ordered turned up as a much more expensive vintage, courtesy of the house, and a course or so later Chef himself, Patrick Guilbaud, came out to apologise to us for the mistake. A great recovery, I must say, and from there on the maitre'd hovered over our table all night and indeed added some additional bits and pieces to our evening. So, a great recovery. On the other hand, if we had not spoken up, what then? Most diners would not, in all likelihood, have done so. On that basis I deduct one star - for a 2 Michelin star restaurant to get 5 stars, it should, indeed, be faultless. Despite all that, the food is wonderful, I must say, and the experience generally fantastic. The maitre'd was a real sport and even joined us for some whiskys and a selfie afterwards. Well worth a visit if you are up for dropping some serious money on a great meal.

Yelp
Wow! Amazing restaurant! We came here with low expectations because our dinner at a different restaurant the night before was a disaster. But this place blew us away. Probably one of the best fish I've ever had. Try the Sole, it's amazing. The foie gras is excellent and the Irish filet was cooked perfectly. The night ended perfectly with dessert and their homemade chocolate truffles. For a Michelin 2 Star restaurant, it's as good and even better than some of the 3 Star restaurants I've eaten at. Great atmosphere and kind wait staff. Drinks were very good too. Old fashioned was fantastic and margarita was tasty. I'd be more than happy to come back here again when we visit Ireland next time.

Yelp
Save your money. Not worth it at all. Ran out of a few things on the menu, lobster, fish and partridge, from a very limited menu to deign with. Then substituted with things not in the menu. Claimed they want to keep only the best ingredients. Really? We had a big group by the time the waiter got everyone's order we all had different fish. The bread could probably be used as weapon it was so hard. The service felt cold as if they were just going through the motions. No interaction with the group. The food is mediocre at best. Had much better food on our trip at other places.

Yelp
This place oozes class and sophistication. Boasting two Michelin Stars, expect long island iced teas, cocktail dresses and seamless silver service. The waiting list can be pretty long, so make sure you book weeks, if not months, in advance. The menu is uncomplicated and although it is extremely expensive for dinner, there is a three course lunch menu available for €50 per person. The food on the set menu is the same on the a la carte, so you're not missing out on any of the opulence - you're just being smart. From the moment you walk through the door, you are treated like a VIP. You sit in a living room area for a drink while your table is being prepared, and although it's dressy, the atmosphere is chic rather than pretentious. Just so you know - the gin and tonic was perfect. Everything about the service is immaculate. You have a waiter per person at the table and they work in perfect sync to make sure everything is timed to perfection. You won't lift a finger to pour wine or water - these guys are as attentive as they come, yet remain completely unobtrusive. The table setting is divine and I love the Guilbaud printed plates. There's no expense spared or detail missed. The wine list is plentiful, with plenty of mid-range priced bottles available. The food was perfect. I'd be willing to bet you've never tasted foie gras so delectable. Also amazing is the cheese plate - you can have as many types as you want and they're not stingy with the portion sizes. I had a desert and there was enough cheese on my friend's plate for me to help out. I've never heard a bad word about this place and after the most decadent lunch in history, I understand why. It's a wonderful experience from start to finish. Treat a loved one or treat yourself. Failing that, find any excuse you can.

Yelp
We decided to go all out and try Ireland's only 2 star Michelin restaurant. It was very good - we went with the 8 course degustation menu. The staff are all from France and were very attentive for most of the meal. I wanted to give this place 5 stars but something is holding me back. We started with a couple of glasses of champagne and had an amuse bouche of gougeres. After perusing the wine list we settled on a couple of wines from Burgundy - a chassagne Montrachet and a chambolle musigny The courses we had were all quite delicious - soup with some confit of lemon on the bottom with a deconstructed bite of caprese salad. The next course was a perfectly cooked scallop with some fresh peas followed by an onion tart with some frisée . Next courses - duck breast with potato purée - cheese course with all sorts of different French cheese - even epoisses! Then there were 3 dessert courses - interesting that the one course gives you a small assortment but you have to share them. Not bad if you are close to the person you are dining with but could be interesting if you were not close. At this point in the evening it seems like the service sort of fell flat - we wanted more coffee and more water and our bill to settle up. We had to search for someone to help us. This is where they lost the 5th star - We sort of felt ignored a bit. And when you are paying the kind of money to dine at such an establishment with 2 stars the expectation is that from start to finish you are taken care of...

Yelp
This was our first time to the restaurant and we had received a voucher as a wedding present. The booking we made was for 8 o'clock and at no time during the meal did we feel rushed, there really is a relaxing atmosphere about the place, from the décor to the service, which is attentive and polite without seeming intrusive. When we arrived we were offered drinks in the lounge and had time to peruse the menus, which included the very extensive wine list. (A word of note, the tasting menu is not available on Saturday evenings.) Having made our choices for food and wine, and finished our pre dinner drink we were escorted into the main dining room. A lot of thought has gone into the design of the restaurant; the tables are well spread out and private. You sit inverted to your partner which is great for chatting etc. The wine and water we ordered were at our table when we were seated (nice touch). Now on to the food, there was a pre starter of Carpaccio of tuna with wasabi paste, this was a first for my wife and she enjoyed it. It was excellent and whetted the appetite for what was to come. The bread was fresh, tasty and beautifully made. The starters of truffle tortellini and crab cannelloni were excellent, some of the best pasta I've ever tasted. For the mains we had the roasted turbot with tarragon sauce and the wild mushroom risotto. Now, the only problem with the whole meal - the rice was slightly over cooked, this was disappointing as the flavours were exceptional. The fish was delicious and the sides were well suited. My wife ordered a strawberry desert which was good and I had a cheese board - has to be seen to be believed - 18 cheeses to choose from! There were numerous petite fors after dinner. All in all this is an expensive night out, but if you have a very special occasion I can't recommend it enough. The patron Patrick Guilbaud came around to say hello and make sure everything was to our liking. Just go and don't worry about the price!

Yelp
Party of 10 at a 2 star Michelin restaurant and the execution was still as expected. Appropriate knowledge of the food and wines by the staff. It's very hard to make diners not feel as though their dinner is last too long and I will say the rhythm and flow of this dinner was as good as it gets.

Yelp
Absolutely the highlight of our 'foodie' stay in Dublin. No point in offering redundant superlatives, except to say that everything: service, ambiance and, of course, food were what you'd expect to experience at a Michelin establishment. If you are visiting Dublin, don't miss Patrick Guilbaud Restaurant!

Yelp
What a treat for the tastebuds-- as well as feeling like complete royalty... my mom was in visiting and took her for her 6..something birthday (she would kill me if I told her age...) We opted for the Autumn Tasting, Four Course Surprise Menu, Created by: Chef Guillaume Lebrun at the hefty cost of €85 /per person. For us, it was worth every last pence. As the menu is chosen by the chef, they ask if you have any allergies-- so after viewing the menu we let the waiter know what we thought looked 'best'... and surprise, we received all of the best on the menu. Started out with: soup, then Castletownbere King Scallops...if I could have eaten the plate, I would have.... third Course was monkfish and ended with Fillet of Wicklow Lamb, Polenta Gratin, Parmesan, Tomato, Tandoori Spice. It was all heaven ...here in Dublin. I recommend for a splurge... you will not regret it!

Yelp
It's hard to put in words the experience we had here. Voted the best restaurant in Ireland. It fully deserves this title. The meal was out of this world. The wine was the best I've ever tasted. I promise to eat here once a year. Patrick Guilbaud came round to chat with us and we got a private tour of the wives cellar! Thank you.

Yelp
One of the most amazing dining experiences ever. From beginning to end. We even spent some time with Patrick Guilbaud and he is very nice. The seaweed wrapped lobster was amazing. The deserts were to die for. This is an EXPENSIVE night out, expect to spend 200-300 euro's.

Yelp
A very fine place to eat. Attractive relaxing surroundings, attentive friendly staff and just beautiful food. And some reasonable wines on the list. A Must do.

Yelp
This was my first trip to a michelin star restaurant and it exceeded my expectations. The food was amazing and the service exceptional. The way the food was served was a real spectacle - fantastic. I have attached some photos. We had a pre-dinner drink in the merrion which set the scene. The artworks displayed on the walls are exquisite. Definitely worth a visit as a treat. It is expensive but rightly so. Finally, Patrick himself came around to everyone to ask how their food was - nice touch!

Yelp
Impeccable service and food. My family enjoyed the four course tasting menu. Beautifully plates courses. Well deserving of it's reputation.

Yelp
This is not the place to bring your colleagues or go for a night at the pub. This place is CLASS, and you're bringing your date here to impress them, or someone to whom you're breaking SERIOUS good/horrendous news ("drown your sorrows in this KILLER wine, my friend!"). I went here on a date, and the food was great. It might not be the BEST I've ever had, but this place has the right combination of VERY good food, excellent ambiance, and fantastic service. I mean, dang, even if your date is a wash (mine totally was, I went for an older man and it turns out that "dating" wasn't what he wanted - oh well), at least you go home thinking, "yeah man, but that dessert left my taste buds singing!

Yelp
A wonderful dining experience all around living up to its reputation. We had the tasting menu which consisted of highly balanced dishes from start to finish. I in particular loved the oysters that were utterly deliciously dressed with flavored oils, vinegar, ginger, cilantro and more. Perhaps the best oyster dish of any kind. I also enjoyed the foie gras with pineapple appetizers, followed by fish and meat main, cheeses and 2 deserts. The pacing between the courses was perfect as well as the portions. We finished the dinner in about 2.5 hours without feeling overstuffed. It clearly separates itself from 1 Michelin starred restaurants in both quality of food and service.

Yelp
Having dinner at Patrick Guilbaud, Ireland's only 2 Michelin star restaurant was a perfect night of delicious, beautiful, perfectly cooked and presented food. A modernly elegant and sophisticated ambiance that remains relaxed and fun at the same time. A beautiful space wrapped in the glow of the pink gold ceiling which flatters everyone frames crisp, efficient service from a warm and personable staff made us feel welcome and pampered from the initial greeting and offer of an aperitif to the closing presentation of hand made chocolate truffles nestled in a bed of chocolate and cocoa nibs. We both had the 4-course dinner (appetizer, fish, meat & dessert) and every dish was simply perfection in taste and visual appeal. Sprinkled throughout the four courses were perfect breads (the mini baguettes, amazing), savory and sweet bites, palate cleansers and a sommelier who paired perfect wines for our dishes. It is easy to understand why Michelin gave Patrick Guilbaud 2 Stars and if you like formal dining, this is as good as it gets and definitely should be on your list of fine restaurants to experience and enjoy. Incroyable.

Yelp
Gorgeous, palatte satisfying cuisine along with an impeccable staff. We enjoyed a long leisurely lunch and cannot stop talking about this pristine establishment. Enjoyed a nice 2007 Valpolicella from Italy as well. We look forward to returning for their diner service. Well done Dublin for keeping such a grand institution in your city!

Yelp
We had a dinner with a bunch of friends in this restaurant on March 29 and the whole table ordered tasting menu where there were 8 small dishes served of chef's creation to our surprise. Exceptional service and several dishes were exceptionally good. And, therefore two stars. There were, however, a few disappointments. Number one - raw oysters. I am not sure I can qualify raw oysters as chefs creation or a surprise. Number two, way too much bread throughout the dinner. Bread was exceptionally good - but waiters kept bringing and bringing it as if they did not want us to eat after dish number 4. And after dish number 5, everyone was full up to their necks. Number three, cheese. When dish number 6 was rolled out to us on a wagon with just cheese on it I was deeply disappointed. The waiter excellently presented each cheese with deep knowledge of where the cheese is from . However, it was just cheese - nicely cut and put on a plate! I can hardly call it Chefs creation. A disappointment number four was lamb cooked to perfection on a precision cooker. They called it something fancy like "souse vide". But, behind a fancy name it was lamb simply cooked on a simple precision cooker which makes it very easy for anyone- even me - to cook lamb to perfection in any kitchen. "Souse vide" ! Good but disappointing dish. Two stars, therefore. Sorry. It seems like 8 creations was too much of a stretch.

Yelp
€55 lunch menu! Really is 5 courses with unlimited bread. Drinks were amazing. Service truly outstanding. Food was amazing!

Yelp
It is probably unnecessary to review a 2 Michelin star restaurant and of course it was phenomenal. We had the eight course chef tasting with wine parings. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The service was impeccable. The food incredible. However, be advised that this experience will set you back quite a bit. All in all not a bad way to spend a night in Dublin.

Yelp
very nice food and service is very good and they are french so what else can you expect ! The wine list is pretty good also. the outside terrace is very nice touch of space.
