Pierre

"In the southernmost town of Burgundy, this unassuming house in a pedestrian street is home to a benchmark of local gastronomy. The traditional architecture (bare beams and stonework and an old fireplace) is enhanced by contemporary details. Since 1991, Christian Gaulin has been celebrating the classical union of regional produce and modern techniques. Whenever he can, this virtuoso technician sings a subtle ode to Bresse and Burgundy. Foodies can decadently indulge in tender Miéral pigeon and its millefeuille of cabbage and simmered offal, frog’s legs in garlic cream and parsley sauce, textbook-perfect quenelles of pike, a juicy Charolais tournedos steak and a Grand Marnier soufflé of head-spinning perfection. A believer in fine produce before all else, the chef cooks what he himself likes to eat – to our delight!" - Michelin Inspector

A very nice and charming place for one of the best table in Mâcon. Typical regional dishes, with a special touch from the Chef. Extended wines Carte, with a wide range of local whites. Have a go and enjoy your time at Pierre!

Just excellent! We could come back again and again just for the glorious bread! But on top there is pleasant and effective service by 2 lovely ladies, fantastic food by the chef and a particularly interesting wine list. On a Saturday noon we had been advised to taste the "market menu". So we tasted the best ever beef carpaccio and un unforgettable lobster tortellini. The dessert was elegant and all the mignardises offered very interesting and tempting. For this culinary experience a bottle of water, 1/2 bottle of local fuisse, a glass of local dessert wine and 2 coffees we paid 91€. Just sublime! A very serious reason to come back to Macon. Bravo!

Not worthy of a Michelin star... My girlfriend is vegetarian and does not like strong cheese. We confirmed this in advance and told it was not a problem. The 60 Euro vegetarian starter was a very basic garden salad (really just a bit of lettuce and tomorrow). The main course was pasta pesto; seriously, the type that you make from a packet as a student (see photo). Does a restaurant that can not cater for vegetarians really deserve a Michelin star??

Yelp
Worth a detour! Macon is not the most culinary part of the Bourgogne region but Chez Pierre everything just falls into place. The beautifully prepared dishes are culinary, creative but not too fancy and experimental. Actually we think they make a perfect balance between traditional French cuisines and the more modern techniques. We had a gourmand menu with small lobsters, lots of truffle, coquilles and pigeon and we loved it. We completed our dining with a beautiful chocolate ball that was 'finished' at the table. Very nice! Although they have an extensive winelist we choose all Bourgogne wines from surrounding areas. The wines were very nice and tasteful and very well priced. I would love to come back here.

Yelp
This meal was one of our highlights of our trip to France. We had a family of two adults and three older children. Firstly the exceptional value of this restaurant. The is a petit gourmet option for children consisting of a half portion main (generous still) and full dessert. The adults had several options including a special 3 course menu for 25 euro, 35 euro or other more elaborate options. Example; one of the kid had main of Bresse chicken with a gorgeous truffle sauce. We were offered a choice of rustic or olive bread with delicious herbed butter. This bread was the nicest I tasted in France which is saying something. The food was good regional and seasonal fare presented with flair. The flavours were very good. The wine list was very extensive but also contained a good array of options by the glass. The wine matched with my seafood main was a marriage made in heaven. There was a tray of five complimentary titbits each between main and dessert all of which were delightful. One of the desserts was a sphere of dark chocolate with gold leave on top. The waitress poured warm chocolate sauce over the top melting a hole revealing apricot ice cream and other delights inside. This was theatrical and delicious. Coffee was served with complimentary cherries dipped in dark chocolate and rum. Yum. I would most strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting this region or would advise a detour to experience this gem of a restaurant.
