Best Places to Celebrate the Holidays in Toronto (2025 Guide)

"Chefs Ricky Casipe and Olivia Simpson’s second annual holiday lounge brings “A Filipino Christmas” to Queen Street East, an intimate pop-up nestled between the front-of-house bottle shop and the open kitchen and dining room and decorated with festive finds from Casipe’s parents’ home, from traditional star-shaped parol lanterns to Pinoy music CDs covering the walls. Themed cocktails blend Filipino and holiday flavors with local spirits—the Halaya Sour (Niagara white rum, house-made falernum, sweet potato syrup and citrus) and the Leche Flan Nog, which purées baked Filipino leche flan into a rich base with Elora Distillery spiced rum—plus party shots like the Gin Bulag (named after the Tagalog term for a blindingly strong gin) with apple pie moonshine and cranberry. Guests can pair drinks with favorites from the Bib Gourmand restaurant’s regular menu, like the carrot and ice cream (roasted carrots, fried chickpeas, bay leaf ice cream and melted brie), tartares and burgers, or drop in for seasonal Meet Your Makers tastings with Ontario producers in the bottle shop; the lounge is open until New Year’s Eve, except December 21 to 25 when the restaurant is closed." - Julia Eskins

Had a really wonderful first meal here for our anniversary. The food was incredibly playful and delicious. Their burger and pulled pork dish were stellar. The burger is among one of the better I’ve had in this city. We also tried their tartar, the liver mousse with donuts and carrots and Ice cream which were alll really tasty and unique. We probably got one too many dishes that had a sweeter element but the overall meal only wanted us to come back and try more off the menu. The cocktails were great. I had a blue cheese washed, old fashioned style cocktail that was mind bending, and their martinis are very well balanced as well. The ambiance was perfect. So glad to be in a restaurant where the tables aren’t crammed together. And finally, the service was exceptional. Olivia was our server and we felt very taken care of. It was a great chatting about our favourite neighbourhood spots in the east end between courses. You won’t have a bad time here!

Four of us went to Ricky + Olivia and had a great time. The staff was very kind and took great care. Carrot ice cream and chicken liver mousse was good but a little too sweet for me and perhaps more of a dessert item. The burger and steak tartare was very good. But the best dish was the special which was like an elevated poutine which pork belly and beef on white beans with cheese curds and gravy. Highly recommend. The ambience is very nice also.

Bored of a lot of restaurants lately that seem to follow the same formula, I wanted to pick somewhere interesting for my birthday dinner this year. I had heard wonderful things about Ricky + Olivia since their pop-ups in Niagara, and had heard no less since opening their brick and mortar restaurant. I loved the sound of their quirky menu, filled with personal touches. I am so pleased to say that they totally lived up to the hype! From the moment we entered and told them our reservation name, the staff asked who's birthday it was and wished me a very genuine "happy birthday." The vibe was casual, fun, and buzzy – just what we had hoped for! The food – delicious and so unique! Every dish was fantastic (and yes, the burger and fries do live up to their shining reputation)! Our server was so lovely and knowledgable and made some great suggestions for us throughout the meal that helped guide our experience. The cherry on top was a birthday card at the end, signed by all the staff who worked that night. It was such a sweet and thoughtful touch that demonstrated how they truly go the extra mile for their guests. Highly recommend!

Had a great experience at RR+O, the service was a delight, and the ambiance is great. So many items on the menu were very interesting, loved the pairings. We were really happy with the tartare and the rainbow trout. The tartare paired with the saltine crackers was a real homerun. The trout was cooked perfectly. The chicken+duck tasted great but nothing really stood out about it. The duck sort of gets lost and it ends up being a chicken meatball. It was great it just wasn't as striking as some of the other options. We'd definitely go back.

Ricky+Olivia was on our list even before they got recognized by Michelin and it did not disappoint. The space is really unique and we liked the open kitchen. Service was great, the menu has some very unique dishes. We had been looking forward to the Big Mac tartare and it was even better than we expected, and the carrot and ice cream was one of the most creative dishes we’ve tried. Love the focus on Ontario wines and liquor. It’s been awhile since we’ve been so excited when trying a new restaurant. Looking forward to coming back.

Quirky and full of fun surprises! This restaurant has so many dimensions - from a front desk that doubles as a bar to a long, open kitchen that feels like a runway, where diners can watch the chefs at work. The staff were friendly and engaging, and the food was playful, creative, and delicious.

Absolutely fantastic. Service was impeccable, food was divine, and such a cute spot. Had the carrots and ice cream as a recommended dish and it blew us out of the water. Tartare and spaghetti squash salad were also 10/10. They were also very accommodating for gluten free substitutes- will definitely be back!

It's a beautiful space! The staff is Lovely and courteous, it has a very homey vibe. Dogs are welcome on the patio, a plus! The cocktails were beautiful and delicious. My personal favorite was the chicken liver mousse, an interesting flavor combination of sweet and savory served with fried donuts instead of bread. The food was good but I personally found it a bit under seasoned, it might be the style as it seems most of the flavor is in the oil, which for us was too heavy —this might not be for everyone depending on what kind of texture and flavor or flavor profile you like. I tend to prefer a good amount of classic old Pepper and salt but regardless it doesn't make the experience any less enjoyable. Prices are reasonable. I do recommend that you visit this lovely restaurant in the east end.
