My wife and I have had two mind blowing dining experiences in our life. This was one of them. When I booked the reservation, the restaurant had no Michelin stars. By the time we arrived three months later, it had been awarded two, and rightfully so. A truly magical experience. I highly recommend the chef’s counter. It provides an intimate connection to the chefs and the kitchen. It connects you to the food and the food prep. It’s easy to feel their passion and devotion to food, sourcing locally, and creativity as an art form in design and flavor. It was transcendent 🧘‍♂️ And it’s cheaper than taking the family to Disney world for a day! 😂

Google
The experience was sensational. Food and service were the best we have had. Definitely deserving of its Michelin Stars. We were referred to by our names multiple times, and moved to different parts of the space as the meal went on. Each dish was thoroughly explained including its ties to Quebec. Would highly recommend.

I visited Tanière recently and the food was honestly fantastic. Every dish was beautifully made and full of flavor. The ambiance and atmosphere were also top notch. It really felt like a special experience and truly deserved the 2 Michelin stars. I was so happy with the whole experience. I really enjoyed the meal and would definitely recommend Tanière to anyone looking for a unique fine dining experience in Quebec City.

Google
Probably one of the best dining experiences I've had in my entire life. The food is absolutely delicious, with an emphasis on local ingredients from Quebec and the Boreal forest. The location is a "speak-easy" style in a historic setting, and you move to 3 different seating sections throughout the approx 3 hour dining experience. The staff are fluently bilingual and very attentive to your needs. The finishing touch of the personalized menu at the end was a highlight! Overall, an incredible experience and my personal highlight of my trip to Quebec City. Deserves a Michelin Star for sure.

My husband and I visited your beautiful restaurant 3 years ago while on our honeymoon and I haven't stopped thinking about it since! I am currently in Québec City with my granddaughter, celebrating her graduation and had to bring her to experience the amazing food and hospitality that are second to none. She loved every single moment of our time with you! She is a true foodie and watches videos on meal tastings and Michelin star restaurants so, she was very excited about going to your restaurant. You surpassed all expectations in every way possible! The food was incredible, the wine pairings were perfect (this coming from someone who truly does not normally like wine), and the level of customer service and care from your amazing and friendly staff was unmatched! We are blessed to travel the world and to be able to try food from many countries. I am afraid that you have spoiled us for any other restaurant's tasting menus and I am not mad about it! The ambience of your establishment is incredibly beautiful and so warm and inviting.it was a perfect evening and we are incredibly grateful to all of you. Merci beaucoup 🫶🏼

Google
A beautiful concept, but overall underwhelming. Tanière offers a visually unique and immersive dining experience—the entrance with the code and moving through different rooms was creative and fun. I also really appreciated the focus on local, Quebec-sourced ingredients. That said, the overall experience didn’t live up to the hype. We were passed from one server to another, which made it feel a bit impersonal. Our original waiter also misunderstood my husband’s allergies (to crab, lobster, and scallops), and initially removed oysters and sea urchin from his menu unnecessarily. While this was later corrected, it caused some confusion. In terms of the food: the oysters at the start were truly exceptional—but everything else was, unfortunately, mediocre. The venison, though cooked well, lacked excitement or depth of flavour. The sourdough and foie gras dip was a miss for both of us. Nothing really packed a punch or left a lasting impression. The non-alcoholic drink pairing was thoughtful in technique, but none of the drinks were particularly memorable or crave-worthy. There was a lot of presentation, but the substance didn’t quite match. It felt like one of those fancy restaurants where the experience is prioritised over actual flavour. I wanted to love it, but for the price and prestige, it didn’t deliver the wow factor I expected—aside from the oysters. Food: 2/3 Service: 3/5 Atmosphere: 4/5

Wow. Just wow. My fiancée and I had her birthday dinner here, and days later Tanière³ got its two Michelin stars. I'm not surprised at all – they absolutely earned it! This was easily the best meal I’ve ever had in Canada, and I’ve been to a lot of top spots. The whole experience starts with this cool sense of mystery, showing up to a yellow door and using a code to get in. Right away, I knew this was going to be special. We started in the "first vault" with some incredibly tasty mocktails and amazing small bites. Then, after a quick peek into the back kitchen, we moved to the "chefs counter vault" for the main event. Honestly, it's hard to find the words to describe how good everything was. Every single dish was a 10/10 – no misses, nothing that was just "good but not great." The amount of thought they put into sourcing, preparing, and presenting each part of the meal is just perfect. Chef François is a true master, and you can feel his passion when he explains the dishes; he's not just reciting a script. All the staff were fantastic too, super attentive and seemed to know what we needed before we even had to ask. We did the wine pairings (highly recommend with a tasting menu like this). They have two options, the "Experience" and the "Collection." Hot tip: if you're there as a couple, get one of each. You get to try way more, and it was cool to see the difference – like tasting a 2017 French Pinot Noir next to a 2023 Quebec one. We finished up in the "dessert vault," which had this amazing ceiling covered in paper hummingbirds – a really special touch for my fiancée. The desserts were out of this world and the perfect end to an incredible night. The whole dinner was about 3 hours, but it was paced perfectly. We never felt rushed or like we were waiting around. Seriously, I'd 100% recommend travelling to Quebec City just for Tanière³. It’s not just dinner; it’s a whole experience. If you want the absolute best of Canadian dining, this is it.

Google
Absolutely incredible dinning experience. Words can hardly describe how perfectly curated everything was. The rooms, service and most importantly, the food were unbelievable. Every single ingredient is locally sourced and succinctly described. Fantastic and unique wine pairings. One of the most memorable gastronomical experience of my life. Bravo!!!

Yelp
(We visited Restaurant Tanière³ a year ago; this review is therefore from my long term memory; I thought I had written a review, but apparently not) We visited Quebec City during the summer, actually during the week of the music festival, and were delighted to secure a reservation here relatively last minute because when we travel, we like to go to a "destination" place. Restaurant Tanière³ definitely qualifies as worth a special trip. At the time though, we didn't really know what to expect. The restaurant seemed to be rather under the radar for those outside Canada, and even just a year ago (that is to say, 2023), the pricing was pretty reasonable; looking at their site today (2024), it's gone up appreciably, presumably because seats are now more in demand. Good for them! I won't go into details of the dishes. While we have photos, and everything was really good, the experience was more than just the food. The setting is fantastic, with the coursing through various atmospheric rooms, after the entry through the purposely obscure unsigned doorway. From the bright outside, we were suddenly in a cool dark place. We were served champagne and some initial bites in the introductory room, then the main courses in the fantastic main room, a sort of stone wine cellar-ish space with arched ceilings. Not claustrophobic in any way, by the way. Followed by dessert in yet another room. The meal flowed, nicely paced, somewhat slow in parts. We had the wine pairings, which were good, but because we were eating with a kid, we ordered their non-alcoholic pairing for her. Honestly, we should all have had the non-alcoholic pairing -- it was so good. Inventive, interesting, tasty. Who knows what those drinks were made of, but it was so different to have pairings with each dish that were not wine. Don't get me wrong, we've had some really wonderful wine pairings, where the taste enhancement was almost surprising, but when you get down to it, wine is wine. This non-alcoholic pairing just showed how much more versatile drink pairings can be, and a good side effect is that one's tasting capabilities are not stymied by alcohol consumption, nice as that might be. (BTW, and we tried to investigate this before we went here with the kid, they are very kid friendly. They told us it's not uncommon for them to see kids as guests. Ours was 6 at the time. She was already a foodie, appreciating good food, and she ate everything with gusto, only complaining toward the end that she was kinda full. As I mentioned, at the time, the price was relatively reasonable, but with the now higher cost, might have thought twice then). We loved our experience here, and if we've ever back in Quebec City, we'd go here again.

Yelp
Went years ago, it was fantastic. Especially loved the corn dessert. Pricey but definitely on par with what you'd expect for the price. Great place for a special meal. I am writing this review now because I happen to be in Ottawa during a special occasion and was trying to remember what this restaurant was so it could be an option (even though it's a 5 hour drive away). Took me awhile to figure it out and writing the review for my own sake so I can make sure I can always find it. I think they had a mocktail pairing which is amazing because my partner and I aren't into most alcohols but love tasty drinks.

Yelp
Restaurant Taniere is more than a nice dinner, it's an experience and one their staff does so well! First, you have to find the hidden door, enter in a secret code, and then you walk into a romantic, historic cellar. The meal begins in the bar area with bites and drinks before moving into the main dining area (or in our case the chef's counter) for the main portion of the meal before finally moving into a separate section for dessert. I love rotating spaces in a restaurant because it gives you a chance to see the whole restaurant and gets you moving around during a long meal. Having been to several Michelin restaurants around the world, my husband and I kept saying how Taniere rivals many of them. The food was delicious - very well balanced and creative but more than that the service was incredible. We were very well taken care of and everything flowed effortlessly. It's always fun being at the chefs counter to watch the chefs at work and the kitchen ran like a well oiled machine. One thing to mention - we stuck with mocktails during our meal but for those who did the wine pairing it was definitely some heavy pours. Some of the folks at the chefs counter with us were struggling walking over to the dessert area. Be warned! Restaurant Taniere was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Quebec!

Yelp
5 stars from beginning to end. I've eaten at several James Beard winner restaurants and Michelon star establishments and Tanière ranks near the top. A Michelin star is in order! There is no point describing the food because it will change within the week. However, feel comfortable allowing the chef and bartender to bring what they think is best. This is not just a restaurant, it's a 3 hour experience, you will love it.

Yelp
I don't even know how to describe this experience in a way that will do it justice. It was an experience unlike any other and we are still thinking about it 2 months later. I recommend the chef's table for a more personalized experience. It's worth the extra $50 to do that. We didn't do a drink package because I really wanted to just have the flavor of the food, but might consider it in the future. Overall, it was one of the most memorable nights of my life with great food, great service, and a gorgeous atmosphere. The night we went, there were 18 courses served. We thought we would not be full with such small portions, but by the end I think we may have left dessert behind. It's amazing. If you're even slightly considering it, just go. You won't be sorry.

Yelp
Honestly I've eaten at many michelin star restaurants and Taniere rivals the best of the best. Great experience, great food. We got the non alcoholic drink pairing and loved having a delicious and creative option since we are not big wine drinkers. Hubby and I both said we'd come back to Quebec City again just to eat here!

Yelp
This restaurant is really interesting and it take you the journey in exploring ingredient used in Quebec. Service is smooth and staff are polite. The env is quite artistically decorated with very comfortable seatings. There are many food courses and each course can be paired with an alcohol or non alcoholic drink package. I personally feel don't bother with the non alcohol package because from my opinion, only a few drinks do compliment on the food course and the cost is $85 for the non alcoholic drink pairing. The dish presentation are very pretty and also taste very good at the same time. I like the fact they move you to 3 different area during appetizers, main courses, and dessert phase. So u have different vibes based on what u r eating! But it is expensive and we also get the alcohol and non alcohol pairing, this meal is the most expensive meal I ever had in my life for two! so u better visit this place hungry so u can enjoy all courses with a hungry tummy . I really do enjoy the night and the meal but the bill at the end.. ouch ! but do give it a try!

Yelp
My friends and I had such an amazing experience at restaurant tanière. We were amazed at how each dish was carefully curated for each room (yes, we changed rooms at different parts of the course). Each dish tasted fresh and had great flavor. My favorite dish was the caviar with cream on the bottom (it was their signature dish). I definitely recommend the "experience" wine pairing as it really elevates each dish. At the end of our meal, our last server ordered us a taxi, which was very sweet:)

Yelp
My main question - why isn't this on the World's 50 Best Restaurants?! This was the highlight of my trip to Quebec - the food, service and ambiance of Taniere were all excellent, and in my opinion rivals Central (currently #2 best restaurant in the world). I got a little confused because on Google maps the address says to go to 36 1/2 Rue Saint-Pierre (where Bistro L'Orygine is) and the hostess told me to go to Rue du Don-de-Dieu to a door with the number 7 on it, enter the code I was sent and walk through the door. The hostess greeted me by name (probably knew from the unique code I was given) and I was seated in the 1st room of 3. You don't know what is going to be on the menu as the whole meal is a surprise! Definitely get the alcohol pairings - this enhances the meal greatly. I will recommend anyone who is going to Quebec to eat at Restaurant Taniere!

Yelp
It is really really hard for me not to give Taniere a 5 because they GO ALL OUT in terms of immersive environment/experience and service. As in you are literally moved between 3 different gorgeous locations in the restaurant (1 for apps, 1 for mains, 1 for desserts), their are a couple of fun games/tricks they incorporate into the meal (can anyone say locks and keys?), and you even get a multi-page personalized menu at the end that looks like a clue out of National Treasure. In addition to that, the visual construction/presentation of the dishes is GORGEOUS. As in 2-3 Michelin star level looking dishes! The reason I can't give Taniere a 5, however, is once you strip away all the bells and whistles, what matters with food is the taste. And far far too many dishes at Taniere just didn't wow me. In fact, other than an AMAZING absinthe flamed pork belly and cheese skewer appetizer, I'm not sure a single other dish at Taniere made me say "wow, that's delicious!" Most all of the dishes were average to slightly above average. For a restaurant that clearly is trying to be 2-3 Michelin star level, and at a price point of about $200 per person without drinks, you have to deliver on the tastes. The sauces just weren't strong enough, the creams not heavy enough, the sweets not "drool-inducing" enough, the spices not tantalizing enough. As an example, in one dish, you spend about a minute shaving a pepper over a dish on your own, but despite that effort, I couldn't taste the pepper at all (and I was very liberal in my shavings). I'm not sure if the new Taniere is just too new that they haven't perfected their dishes, or more worrying, the chef actually just can't hit peak flavors, but despite enjoying the experience and a couple of dishes, I probably wouldn't go here again (and a place like Legende at half the price is just far more tasty).

Yelp
Tanière is a top notch gastronomic experience in the heart of Old Québec. Every plate and cocktail is served with a story that links the local ingredients, the history of the house and the modernist cooking techniques. The experience takes place in the vault of two 17th century houses decorated in a cosy and hospitable way. The wine pairing made me discover a lot of new regions and varietals. Throughout the evening, the staff was happy to answer questions and pace the 20 courses to our rhythm. An all around outstanding evening that enchanted us from start to finish!

Yelp
This is a true food journey prepared by the best. My husband and I love a tasting menu but this was next level in so many ways. The atmosphere of each of the rooms we were able to dine in throughout the evening were intimate and beautiful. The wine and cocktails were unique and paired perfectly throughout the night. I forgot several times that every dish was comprised of only Quebec grown ingredients, which is even more mind blowing. Very grateful to have been there during tomato season as they provided a dish serving 9 completely different tomato preparations on one plate- it will haunt me! This is a must for any foodie and a dining experience we will never forget!

Eric R.

Yelp
From having the code to the non descriptive door text to us mere hours before we arrived to being greeted by name as we entered, I couldn't describe a more perfect experience. This was the best dining experience I have ever had. Everything was choreographed from start to finish with surprises from start to finish. Service was awesome with every detail attended to. If you are going to Quebec City, make a reservation for the Chef's table months in advance! You will not regret it.

Erica S.

Yelp
The quality of the ingredients was good, but the overall taste was similar, and it was mainly a mayonnaise-based sauce, which was disappointing because it did not preserve the unique taste of the good ingredients. Although it is a high-end restaurant, I was very disappointed in the fact that customers kept leaving food, but they never asked if it was okay, and even though they said they would not eat the last few courses, they took the money without even asking why. This is an unrecommended restaurant run by someone who only cares about showing off and is obsessed with extreme chauvinism.
google avatar

Lloyd M.

Yelp
A fantastic, unique experience. I was looking forward to visiting but also a little nervous, as the experience sounded like it might be more style than substance. Fortunately I was wrong, the experience worked and the food was incredible. The meal is split into three phases in three rooms. Each room is unique but great. The first, warm and cosy, the second, a vibrant dining room. The third, a good way to wind down. Food is great, many different flavors and very unique preparation. Some were mind blowing. I was particularly happy with the breadth i]of dishes, seafood, lamb, venison, duck, seemed like a little of everything and it all worked well. I was also happy with the wine pairing but actually envious of my friends who had the non-alcoholic pairing, which showed a tremendous level of creativity and care to meld ideally with the meal. When Michelin makes it to Quebec, easily 2 or 3 stars.
google avatar

Jenny B.

Yelp
A once in a lifetime experience. Sorry that we didn't take pictures of each course. Impeccable service. Beautiful ambiance; felt as if we were the only ones there but all seats were filled. Expect a minimum of 3 hours to enjoy each course with wonderful wine pairings.

Yelp
Probably the greatest dining experience I've ever had. Not cheap, but if you're a foodie you'll love it. Really amazing the things they create!

Patricia P.

Yelp
Amazing experience that is up there with the 3 Michelin starred restaurants where I've dined. From the moment who punch in code and enter cave like rooms, you know you're in for a treat. But this restaurant is not style over substance, every bite is well thought out and delicious. We did wine pairing with meal and it was worth it.

Patti P.

Yelp
Loved every minute and bite in this fabulous establishment. The discovery menu is the way to go. Learned a great deal about local cuisine and ingredients. Would absolutely recommend this great restaurant to those looking for a culinary experience OR just an night of excellent food. Totally agree with previous reviews; this spot is Michelin worthy.

Yelp
Wow! You go here for an experience, not just to simply enjoy fine dining. My travel to Quebec City ended on the highest of notes here at Taniere3. You eat at 3 different and each very awesome in it's own way rooms. Then you find out that you are dining in a rehabbed storage room of a 1600's building. I must admit that I was a little apprehensive about not knowing the menu before the dinner but all 15+ courses were very well done and delicious with a story behind every course. Some were odd combos that somehow worked in my mouth even though it didn't work in my ears. This next part maybe a little bit skewed because I live in NYC but the price is cheap compared to the entire experience that is served. Not to say it's cheap but you get more, way more, than what you pay. Quebec City offers really yummy choices for such an tiny, old city but this place is definitely where you should end your trip to Quebec City!

Yelp
Words can't express how much we loved the dinner!! It was one of the best dining experience I've ever had!! Love every moment of it. Starting from the Harry Porter-like address, to speak easy entry, different settings for amuse, meal, and dessert, farm to table dishes with all kinds of local ingredients, dishes with history, stories, or inspired by local artist. This is way more than PERFECT!! So glad we came!!! DO NOT READ THE REST IF YOU WISH TO KEEP THE SECRECY We had a hard time finding the restaurant cause I totally didn't read their Email clearly. It is 36 1/2 on the street, and the door is on the back of it. They Emailed you the code for the door lock. Make sure you don't miss it! The dinner started at their bar area. It is their first theme of the night, the Jardin d'Antoine . We had our 6 mini-appetizer/ amuse there. The present was beautiful and they are super refreshing and delicious too. Then we moved to the main dining room, on the way there, you got the 7th mini-appetizer. When you got to your dinner table, you will find a key on it, which leads to the locked drawer. You can find the menu for the night in it. Btw, Your napkin is hidden in the other drawer. It took me a long time to realize that they didn't give me the napkin... lol Now they start to take you from the sea to the land on your palate. It started with a 8. tuna sashimi with a kind of local poisoning flower, milkweed. The fish was really fresh. The flower was specially cured. 9.Scallop with buttery seared potato and caviar on top. It's a very good balance of savory and buttery, super flavorful! 10.Lobster with beans and grain rice. It was sooo good! The lobster was tender and fresh. The beans and rice were wrapped with lobster sauce. Super delicious! 11.Seared Eel. It is the first time I had eel in tasting menu.(exclude Japanese restaurants) it came with local strawberry, which cleans away the strong fish smell/taste from the eel. Very interesting and good! 12.Duck with creamy porcini ravioli. They gave you the introduction of how duck came here, and some anecdotes about the difference between French and British building the city. Anyway, super flavorful and loved it! 13.Deer with lobster mushroom and spice. There was a spice merchant lived in the building where the restaurant located at. This gave them the inspiration of trying spices in their dishes. The deer was super tender, fresh but not stinky. It is very rare to find restaurant cooks deer that well! 14.A replica of Canadian artist Marc Seguin's art work with cheese, tomato paste and bread. The idea is really brilliant! And the food is delicious too! Now they lead you to the dessert room/ Pavillon Leber. The whole atmosphere changed! The music becomes punk and interesting, with romantic starring lights above you. 16.the first dessert dish was blueberry with caramel-like crack. The menu says Shiso-Pear. Don't think I had anything taste like shiso tho.. Anyway, the dish was tasty and cleans the palate. 17.Canoli with chamomile ice cream sitting on the fresh whipped cream with local strawberry. Refreshing and yummy! 18.Dream box that waits for you to discover. It is not a regular jewelry box, but a secret one with drawers open in different ways! You really need to find your dessert closely! The dinner is definitely the highlight of our trip! It was opened at this new location in March. They definitely brings the dining experience to a different level. It's not just about the food, but the whole experience and feelings. They name each dish, and the food corresponds with local history and stories. It also has the escape-the-room feeling as you are always discovering and finding during the whole dinner. Although they don't have Michelin in Quebec, Taniere definitely worths a two stars or more! The only difference I think it lacks of is that they don't clean your table when they see crumbs, but this is a very minor thing. So glad that I found it! Ohh, forgot the best part! They charges 1/3 as usual Michelin 2 stars in NYC.. Hope they stay this way next time we go! This place definitely worth a trip to go to!

Yelp
Overview: Best experience we've had in Quebec. Food: Everything was delicious. Some dishes such as an scallop potato dish, and an eel dish, were particular standouts for their ingenuity and complexity of depth of flavor. Many or most of the dishes focused on incorporating unique local oddities, presenting novel flavors, accompanied with very brief background stories or facts to explain the items in relation to Quebec. Who doesn't love a brief nice story? It was like a fun bed time over and over. Sure, it is not inherently novel, but it was done well in a manner that felt natural, and not forced or theatrical . Desert was comparatively underwhelming in flavor, but still pleasing. Pacing was perfect in between courses. Drink paris: Well timed, well explained, sometimes innovative (tea of thorns? sure, why not), and thoughtfully matched the corresponding dishes well. The sommelier Jonathan was a sweetheart. Service: Professional, friendly, and inviting. The only criticism we can muster was that their parting gift to us was a nearly baby-size jar of homemade mustard that was too large to be taken aboard a flight. Ambiance: Located in a hard-to-find swank cave-like area (without the bats). We were led to different areas and tables for the different parts of dinner (pre-dinner cocktails, snacks, dinner, and a dessert). Perfect for the short attention span generation. I almost barely needed to check my facebook.

Yelp
We read about this place on QC's "top new restaurants for 2019" and we are so happy we decided to go! The price is well worth what you get. It's a full culinary experience, ranging from the creative dishes, to the presentation, the service, and the ambiance. You start the evening by entering the restaurant with a code, and the surprises do not stop there! Highly recommend this place to those who are adventurous when it comes to food. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! I wish I could describe the experience but it will ruin it for those who have not been there so sorry but no food pictures! Better to be surprised it's worth it!!! I can only say it is a place that for sure will be memorable. The people, the food, the drinks and the ambience are perfect. I have been to multiple places for tasting menu around the world and this one is UNIQUE!

Jeanie L.

Yelp
Exceptional restaurant, very memorable experience. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a one of a kind tasting menu. They pay attention to all the small details that go into curating an unforgettable experience. I won't spoil all the details, but it starts with the secret code you have to enter to find the restaurant, and that is just the beginning. Very neat idea moving through the restaurant for different courses, along with their wonderful sommelier and knowledgeable staff. This restaurant has a "why" and you can feel the energy throughout! Took a few photos

Rick S.

Yelp
This is a unique excellent restaurant but very expensive at $15o Prix Fix per person. There is no indication that it is a restaurant that offers only its prix fix which I found disrespectful of their customer. That being said if that price point is workable it is worth a visit. The service presentation and ambiance and food in three old arched ceiling basement rooms is exceptional. During the evening you are seated in each room as you progress through a 12 course meal. Portions are perfect for the number of courses. This is a restaurant where the experience is as important as the food. We had a wonderful evening but would not return because of the price.
