Denmark's Northern Coast Has 19-hour Summer Days and a Quaint Surf Town Called 'Cold Hawaii'

"An ambitious, tiny-town fine-dining restaurant led by chef Nicolas Min Jørgensen that celebrates regional ingredients—often sourced directly from arriving farmers or recent foraging trips—and has been recognized by the Michelin Guide with both a star and a special green star for sustainability." - Liz Provencher

Tri

"In a small coastal town by the North Sea you'll find this contemporary greenhouse-like building. Made from wood and glass, it is a bright and airy space that is filled with customers enjoying quality cooking. Chef Nicolas Min Jørgensen has created a menu themed around seasonal and local produce, which is used with a nose-to-tail, low waste ethos. Dishes provide pure, natural flavours and are prepared with care and precision." - Michelin Inspector

Restaurant Tri in Thy is honestly brilliant. Food's spot on-every dish bursting with flavor, thanks to locally sourced produce. The chef's a creative genius, weaving magic with ingredients that shine on their own. Tastes incredible, and the cozy, intimate vibe at night. Pure charm-think warm lighting and a hum that makes you feel right at home. I'd rate it a solid five stars.

Stepping into this contemporary greenhouse-like building, with its beautiful blend of wood and glass, feels like entering a sanctuary where nature meets modern design. Each interior detail and handmade local decoration tells its own story, making the space feel intimate and authentic. The attention to detail is evident not just in the ambiance but also on the menu, which is thoughtfully crafted around seasonal and local produce. Their commitment to a nose-to-tail, low-waste ethos is not only admirable but truly shines through in the flavors of every dish. Each plate is a pure expression of natural ingredients - simple yet deeply satisfying. There’s a sense of harmony between land and sea, where the freshness of each element is celebrated. It’s as if nature has been brought to the plate, allowing you to savor the essence of the Danish landscape with every bite. The experience is more than just dining; chef Nicolas takes you on an exclusive journey into the heart of Danish fine cuisine, where sustainability and taste go hand in hand. For all of you who are seeking for an authentic, mindful, and delicious culinary adventure, TRI is an absolute must-visit!

The sence of place and seasons in the food is fantastic :) and the subtle flavors that lets the amazing local products shine, combined with great cooking techniques and sense of balance. The small and intimate setting with a feeling of being outside almost - all together makes for a wonderful experience :) we combined this with a long walk on the beach before, bringing our tents and bags to sleep outside in the nature, where we saw deers like we just ate, local geese which was also on the menu… and felt and experienced the landscape and nature condensed into the food we ate… magical

We are in Jütland tri guys! Way too thin servings, specially on the drink menu, glasses almost empty! Needs a step up.

We had a great evening. A very very nice place where is fine dining at home. And please try the juice pairing. All juices are self-made and all have a special individual flavour. The 15 courses, I'm still flashed. And what's absolutely fabulous it's the locally concept. All, really all foods come from local producers. Fish, goose, dairy, beer are from surrounding. A lot of restaurants following these concept but I know less restaurants do achieve that. It's almost a definition of what is local? Many thanks to TRI team.

This was our third visit to a Danish restaurant rated by Michelin - and all in all the one we would give the lowest rating (the other two restaurants are Mota and Novel). The presentation of food was at times lackluster and most courses were quite small. Tiny even. One or two larger dishes to make it a meal - the amount of food is too small. We were given menus to take home and to our surprise chocolate and waffles, supposedly the last course, wasn’t served. As far as taste and depth of taste the courses at Tri were average and at times just strange. A highlight was the juice menu we chose instead of wine. We spent about 5.000 DKK and felt like 3.000 would have been more appropriate.

We had 15 great courses all with a good story about their origin. The non-alcoholic pairing is made in house. All the food and drinks are inspired and produced with local ingredients from Thy and the rest of Denmark. ‘New Nordic cuisine’ can be found here.
