The 16 Best Restaurants in Laval, Quebec - Eater Montreal

"This family-run restaurant — open since 2002 — bills itself as a healthy locale for fresh Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese specialties. Dishes worth leaving Montreal for include the steamed savoury rice cakes with shrimp and the flank steak served on a sizzling platter with sweet potato fries and a sunny-side-up egg. Many of Vien Dong’s dishes are also gluten-free or vegetarian." - Erinn Blicher, Eater Staff

The Best Vietnamese Restaurants for Pho in Montreal - Eater Montreal

"This family-run restaurant in Laval serves a mix of Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese specialties, but many just come for the pho, which include the classic rare beef, meatballs, tripe and flank as well as grilled chicken. Other soup options include long-simmered bun bo hue with beef and pork, tapioca udon noodles with pork and shrimp, and Vietnamese ramen with pork and seafood." - Amie Watson

Cute neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant. There is a certain authentic charm to it. The food was pretty good, without being exceptional. Ingredients were fresh. Friendliness of the service varies based on the server.

Totally disappointed. First of all the menu book is disgusting, the water bottle is dirty. Salad with a rotten tomatoe. Second the place is not inviting, smells awful when you get in. And lastly, its good to try so you dont need to go back.

Amazing place for Vietnamese and Thai food! The service was top-notch and the owner was super friendly. All of the dishes were well seasoned and presented. Overall, we had an awesome dinner here! Highly recommended!

I had big expectations for this place. The food was okay, I ordered the spring rolls (4$ for 2 small ones), dumplings (7$ for 4) and the vegetable Phò. The spring rolls were really tasty but they should be bigger for the price or they should add 2 more. The server did his job, he took my order and brought the food but I never saw him smile or say thank you. He didn’t look happy to work today.. Overall, the atmosphere was nice, the design was cute. I was actually sad about the fact that there were no chopsticks with the other ustensiles.. They had good vegeterian options!👍

It’s an OK place if you didn’t grew up eating Vietnamese food. There are some things that did not mark points. For example, they gave us a spicy mayo with the fried roll. Usually, it goes with fish sauce. Also, the pho was a bit disappointing. I asked for the original soup (Dac Biet) and it was missing some items like the beef and trips. On the bright side, the Vietnamese iced coffee was good.

I ordered Lemongrass beef vermicelli, and it was very delicious. Great food, great service. Will definitely go there again whenever i visit Montreal

Went there only once and had the Pho soup with beef and meatballs. It was pretty good! Meat seemed fresh and the soup was tasty. The only so so element of it would be the noodles. They used thicker noodles and they're harder to eat. Other than that the setting is good, better than other similar restaurants. The waiters seemed attentive with their customers.

Pretty bad pho I ever had in Montréal!! I ordered rare beef and well done flank but dunno what kind of beef they gave it to me. Stew beef and chewy. They don't prepare hoisin and sriracha on the table, they only give on the side small plate. For the price 14.95++ I m not recommended to eat here.

Yelp
Vien Dong (Viens donc?) provides a variety of Asian-styled menu geared towards a non-Asian clientele. You'll find Vietnamese options, a bit of Thai as well as Schezwan. The one defining option I hoped to eat was taken off the menu as the locals don't order it enough which is a damn shame. I was talking about their Bahn Mi sandwich! Laval has a complete lack of Bahn Mi options! The hunt continues.... I opted for their grilled beef and vermicelli instead and ended up being pretty decent. It was a big bowl and generously sized however I would have hoped for more meat and less vermicelli. The egg roll was decent and the side salad was refreshing. All in all, decent but not very notable... so I doubt I'll be back. Beautiful mural outside though, very well done. If the owner ever reads this and has started provided Bahn Mi again, please message me and I'll be back and be more than happy to change my review. :)

Yelp
Vien Dong been here for years and today was the day I finally decided to eat here and I was not expecting much but I figured give them a chance. I took the pad Thai and it was really good taste wise but I felt I should of had more on my plate my portion felt to small for a plate I paid 14$ for. Table service barely got any attention waiter never came to check on me or fill my water but I came when most of the staff was on vacation so maybe Maybe that had something to do with it . Don't think I'll come back.
