The 28 Best Restaurants in Quebec City, Canada | Eater

"At Wong, the broths are made from scratch, dumplings are hand-crafted, and the rice is always stir-fried in a wok. But what truly makes this historic dining establishment stand out from the crowd is chef and owner Steven Wong’s ability to showcase his Chinese roots with flair in dishes featuring unexpected ingredients like mussels and burrata. Among the staples is a generously flavored beef and tomato saute." - Allison Van Rassel

Creative new twist on Asian food. They make their own beer which is very unique and taste great, even my wife who doesn’t drink beer has one. Really liked lamb cumin spring rools and ribs

Outstanding food, ambience and exceptional friendly staff. We have dined several times at Restaurant Wong. We go there as the food is made fresh, with wonderful fresh produce. The staff and restaurant ambience are exceptional. This restaurant NEVER disappoints. I can't imagine anyone giving less than 5 Stars to this wonderful restaurant.

So happy to visit Quebec City again for the holidays and our tummies even more happy to dine again at Wong’s! We are a Chinese family and Wong’s is a must stop for us each time we visit …the food is excellent and the restaurant makes us feel at home. Chef Steve Wong (Grandson of founder Fred Wong) is a great chef and most charming!

Fabulous culinary experience! Went to this restaurant on a Saturday night with my two adolescents kids and all of us enjoyed everything about this place. From the warm reception, the classic asian decor, lights were low with nice music for atmosphere, the quality and politeness of the service and the food we had was so so delicious 🤤! We started with appetizers : - WONTON SOUP; it had plenty of « Quebec Porc » wonton in the soup and their Pho-inspired broth (chicken, porc, beef) was out of this world good. - QUEBEC WAGYU BEEF-CURRY DUMPLINGS; Five, medium size fried dumplings, filled with this Wagyu beef preparation were very tasty and the mango chutney added a beautiful sweet taste to them. We had three different main course: - SAKE ORANGE CHICKEN; The lightly breaded chicken pieces were juicy and of good size, cooked perfectly and delicious. The orange-sake sauce was exactly has described (sweet, spicy & tangy). Rice is served in a separate bowl at an extra cost. - GENERAL TAO’S CHICKEN: Exactly like you think a Tao Chicken tastes like but so much more tastier 😋. The chicken is lightly breaded with a very nice portion . Rice is also served as a side dish for an extra cost. - SAKE ORANGE BEEF: It’s basically the same as the Sake Orange Chicken except the beef strips are marinated in Sake which makes it so much more delicious to me. Add the sweet, spicy, tangy sauce to it and green onions on a bed of rice (sold separately) is a perfect dish! Fortune cookies were very good and always fun to read. We had a good laugh!😂 If you prefer to eat with chopsticks,🥢 you can, just ask for them, they will gladly bring some to you. All the portions were perfect to all of us. Better reserve a lot in advance because they are always full almost every night, that’s how good this restaurant is. (not open on Mondays & Tuesdays) We will go back for sure 👍🏻 GOOD JOB 👏

It was awesome! I went with my parents, we got the specialty menu and everything was perfect! No complaints whatsoever, I highly recommend stopping here for some fine Chinese cuisine:)

Google
Very cozy and warm atmosphere. The staff is friendly and professional. We had an edamame appetizer followed by the lobster dumplings, the general Tao chicken and the Singapore noodles (maybe the best i've ever eaten) with shrimps. Everything was hot and savory. Very impressed.

Google
I had a delicious and memorable meal at Restaurant Wong. The restaurant at has been in the family for several generations, and the current Chef, Steven Wong and his team have created a contemporary upbeat vibe. Classic Chinese dishes are elevated with a fine dining touch. The natural wine and cocktail program is well curated to pair with the cuisine. Although I loved each dish, the seasonal wonton soup and dumplings were awesome! The fried wontons that came with the gorgeous edamame hummus were also delectable and I could have shamelessly eaten them the whole dinner. Service was friendly and attentive. Restaurant Wong is a must visit for anyone seeking a fresh, modern Chinese dining experience and I can’t wait to return. As a note of caution, this little gem is very popular with locals and tourists alike. Booking in advance is essential during peak holidays and weekends.

Google
Love this restaurant! I’ve lived in San Francisco & New York City with great Chinese restaurants, but always hard to find really crispy chicken. Yours is the best! Also love the spice you add to the Endamame. So good I visited twice on my trip!

Yelp
This was the first time on this trip that we had Chinese food. At first I was somewhat hesitant because I didn't see too many items that were GF. However, the waitress pointed out a few items. I didn't expect much since the selections were few for me. What a pleasant surprise when the edamame came out and I couldn't get enough of it. The seasonings on it were sensational. The server told me the chef won't even tell him what's in it and they're good friends. I also order the rice vermicelli shrimp madras curry bowl ~ wow! It was phenomenal tasting. I shouldn't have eaten so much edamame because I was stuffed trying to finish the rest of my meal. My husband had the fried rice and General Taos chicken. His was good but I know he wished he ordered what I had. The atmosphere in this restaurant was quaint while also somewhat elegant. We had a table by the window which was across from the Norte Dame Basilica. I don't think the people who looked at the menu realized just how good the food was at Wong's

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by how delicious the shrimp fried rice, and beef broccoli was, with that smoky wok hay flavor.

Yelp
This was one of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever eaten at. The food was spectacular and the service was stellar. However, they made one fatal flaw with me. I was standing outside their restaurant at 5:20 when they opened at 5:30 on a Sunday evening. Not a soul in sight. We wanted a table for 3 with a baby. I called and was told there were no tables available all night. But when my French speaking Canadian daughter called back just 5 minutes later without mentioning the baby, suddenly there was space. Either it was the English I spoke or the baby I mentioned that chose them to discriminate against me but it was totally unprofessional and illegal if done in the US...not sure about Canadian discrimination laws, but surely babies and tourists make up a large bit of their revenue so the owners should take note! Mothers and tourists won't eat here if this is the way we will be treated. The food is excellent, so why mess it up with discrimination against English speaking patrons (which are their bread and butter) or mothers with babies (people who really need a night out, but have to take the well behaved, breast fed infant with them)!

Yelp
This place is only open Th-Sunday so plan accordingly if you want to stop by. Made reservations (called ahead) same day. Service was very attentive and good. Hot or not? General Tao Chicken: (requested it spicy) 10/10 bites. Hot item & boy did they deliver on the spice level. Very enjoyable crispy and savory. Chow Mein (beef): this was a long flat noodle with beef 6/10 bites for me but beau loved it. The hot & sour soup: beau loved it. Wine: 10/10 sips. Absolutely delicious options.

Yelp
I got the mapo tofu with vegetables and my wife got dumplings. Rice is an extra charge, and we got that too. The mapo tofu was tasty, with a sauce that was more the consistency of broth, not as thick as I am used to. And it was quite spicy. I was disappointed that the restaurant did not have more vegetarian items, but I didn't ask if any of the other dishes could be tailored to vegetarians. The hot and sour soup is vegetarian and delicious. The atmosphere is absolutely serene in a beautiful room with exposed brick walls. The staff was helpful and pleasant. There was no rush to eat and leave.

Yelp
We were a party of 8 with 2 very young children. We booked for 5:30 per their suggestion and it was wonderful. Service was excellent. Food was very good. A bit too much 5 spice in the Wonton soup but otherwise excellent.

Kristina M.

Yelp
The drink and food was so good. The service was great and I was very well taken care of during my dining. The ambiance is great...cute restaurant and quaint. Would visit again!

Yelp
No self respecting Asian person should dine here. Food is horrendous. They put five spice in everything and call it Chinese food. Service was slow.

Yelp
In the mood to switch gears away from French Quebec food. Had hot and sour soup with a watery base. The wonton soup was good. Vegetable lo mein was a huge portion which was only fair. The mixed vegetable dish was swimming in sauce. No problem with the fair food and worse service. It was just what we were in the mood for.

Yelp
SOOO disappointed. This restaurant is on every Best Of list and I have no idea why. When we went, they were not offering any of their signature dishes - no Asian burrata and no duck breast with tea.. we did get the pork flank soup which was not very good. The broth was too strong and very salty. It reeked of Chinese 5 spice. The noodles were undercooked. The mussel dish was also plagued by the same issue - intensely salty and strong flavors. The sauce was more like brown gravy. About one third of the mussels were closed and therefore inedible. Even the plain rice was dry and tasted like yesterday's leftovers. Jasmine ta had no hint of jasmine flavor. A total fail

Yelp
As usual, the need for Asian cuisine is innate in us whenever we travel. I admit, my expectations were low after seeing the all too-familiar fast food menu of General Tao's chicken, Orange- flavored beef and pork fried rice. I do not know why I didn't expect to see those in a French Canadian Chinese restaurant. And yes, we got all three, plus a wonton soup. Their version wasn't as greasy, or as sweet as the ones here in the States. You won't get that bloated feeling, or guilt because the portions were just right. I preferred the hot and sour soup though, when we went back the second time around. We ordered the same exact thing, because we liked them enough, plus a cocktail drink. Our server was funny and entertaining. We've passed by more posh looking Asian fusion restaurants, ...but I'd go back to this one, when we visit Old Quebec again.

Yelp
While visiting Quebec City, went for friday night dinner with family, surprisingly restaurant was kind of empty. Live music was being played. Surprisingly not run by Asian, food was flavorful and good quality. 5-stars are mainly because we were pleasantly surprised. The server was pretty accommodating in terms of special requests. Definitely recommended if someone looking for Chinese food in Quebec City!!

Yelp
Food excellent. Service excellent. Ambience really fun and nice-- trendy and mainstream all together. Many Delicious options to choose. Easy venue.

Yelp
Restaurant Wong is a small intimate restaurant in Quebec City. The food is good and the service was great. The vegetables were extremely fresh and our food was cooked perfectly. The won ton soup was a bit spicy, yet we enjoyed this new take on an old favorite.

Yelp
After the downtown trip on our way back, my little one was hungry and asked something to eat. It was around 7pm and it was really early for dinner and found only "Wong" was the right place for my picky son to eat. The place was welcoming and we were seating quickly however our waitress was a bit of painful type. As we were going through the menu she was poking her nose to order more food since the portion size was less and to order more entrees.....on....on..... Really irritated and food was served after 45 minutes almost even though the tables were empty..... We got a veggie fried rice with eggs n veggie noodles with Sichuan sauce. Veggie Spring Rolls on the side. The taste of the food was good however the portion sizes was really huge and we had to pack the leftovers. Don't get lost with the convincing staff here, the prices are high n portion sizes are huge! The highlight was the live music played by a beautiful lady who looked like a doll. The charming music was a total winner!

Yelp
Very good food and generous portions. The singapore noodles, edamame, and soup were delicious and seasoned well. If you want to eat here you should book a table rather than walk in, as it is a small restaurant.
google avatar

Jonathan H.

Yelp
Very good service and very good food! Portions were huge too. Not super busy, and very relaxing atmosphere. Everyone spoke English too, which was nice for us visiting Americans. A hidden treasure!
google avatar

Yelp
Has a lot of history. Nice place. Amazing music. Okay food. Spring rolls were awesome.

Yelp
Who could say no to some hot Chinese food on a snowy afternoon? Not me! The ambience of this restaurant is great, and the servers were so nice. The food I got was full of flavor! Apparently I was in a spicy mood since we ordered hot and sour soup, spicy tofu, Szechwan noodles , and Singaporean Noodles. Also the menu items initially looked a bit pricey but their portions are worth the price!

Yelp
We have been visiting Quebec City in October with couple of families. We had a long day and was so hungry This restaurant was amazing, they seated us pretty quickly, We had a large group 12 ppl, so we were spread out, as they do not have tables for large groups. We like to eat spicy food and we got it and was tasting great. The waitress was really helpful and was sharing a lot of information about the dishes. We tried many dishes and each every one was amazing. Will go there once again if we are back in Quebec City.

Yelp
This place made me feeling just sad when I left. Usually when I go to a restaurant I at least leave full or content, but I left feeling like a rain cloud started overhead on a clear sunny day. My wife and I ordered the special for two people and while I am no Chinese food expert I know what I like. The soup was overly salty, although the dumplings tasted pretty good. The egg roll we got was also not that bad although my wife said it was too greasy. It tasted like an egg roll I would get at like a fast food Chinese restaurant, like Panda Express. The part that made me feel sad was the three courses. The Cantonese chow mein, Cantonese fried rice, and general tso chicken. The chow mein was watery and tasted pretty bland. The fried rice tasted burnt (apparently from the wok they used, which makes me think they never cleaned the thing, now I know you don't clean wok's with soap but have they never scrubbed the thing? And finally the chicken, which tasted like just chicken with some sort of BBQ sauce on it. Overall it was disappointing and I had to stop eating because I was getting sadder after every bite. I wouldn't recommend anything that comes from their wok and if you insist on eating her I wouldn't have high expectations.

Patrick E.

Yelp
It is one of the only Chinese places I found while I was in Quebec City. The interior is nice, and service was excellent and fast. The menu is rather limited so I chose the Roast Pork and Chinese vermicelli soup. It was ok and definitely not memorable, but it did its job. It was expensive for what you got. I recommend this place only if you're in the area and craving Chinese food.
google avatar

Guen S.

Yelp
The food was great! It was nice and ambient, and our waiter was very helpful! I didn't run into many Chinese restaurants in the city, but I'm glad I ran into this one!
google avatar

Yelp
Food is absolutely amazing and surpasses the bar in deliciousness. Staff is incredibly kind and pleasant.
google avatar

Cathy Z.

Yelp
Poor service. Food was overcooked, noodles are burnt. Will not come back nor recommend to anyine.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't waste your money...not good at all. There is so many nice restaurant around. Expensive with no taste... You CAN find Better asiatic food in some fast food court.
google avatar

Rommil F.

Yelp
We ordered the chicken sizzling plate. Very good dish. Not salty. The server is excellent. The ambience is nice and clean. Absolutely recommend this place.
google avatar

Stephanie F.

Yelp
We got the dinner special for two. My husband said the food was "phenomenal!" Honestly...delicious, more upscale cozy feel for an eat in Chinese restaurant.

Weihao L.

Yelp
One star would be too generous. Horrible and disappointing food. Rice was way over cooked, it tasted bitter. When I saw other customers coming in, I felt sorry for those victims. Taking a picture was wasting my time. So I am sorry for no pics. Sitting there for about 15 mins, I was already thinking about heading out. McDonald's is much better food for me now. God, I miss those burgers with normal taste. Last thing I wanna say, I want to start my own restaurant after having lunch in Wong. Can't imagine this restaurant is still open since 1960.
google avatar

Jenny R.

Yelp
Great restaurant! The food was very good. Servers are nice and polite. Outside is the square where many street performers do turn. Great place!

Denise L.

Yelp
Great food atmosphere even nice listening Chinese music. Downfall was 'no time to make Mai Tai' no Diet Coke just regular. Noted few had a glass of wine/beer. Waiter was nice telling us he normally doesn't work there. Seemed overwhelmed. Not enough dining help.
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
I guess we made a mistake by choosing eating Chinese food in old Quebec town. The food was disappointing, not mentioned it's so over priced. Won't recommend to anyone.

C P.

Yelp
Vegan in QC? Wong has a few options, and don't let the kitschy sign fool you- its fairly nice inside. There was even a woman playing a koto inside the night we went which was amazing! The waitress understood vegan, so: The only vegan app is hot and sour soup, the ( soft) tofu with vegetables and Singapore noodles with veg were both VERY good. Ask for no egg or fish sauce. Limited cocktails, but they were made well. Portions were HUGE! The reason for three stars is really limited selection, and they could use better tofu.
google avatar

Eva Z.

Yelp
Pros: nice staff, hot and predictable food, prices Cons: under sauced items , long wait times for Chinese food Overall 7.5/10
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
Perfection from beginning to end. The staff was warm and inviting. The service was perfect - not pushy yet always available. Recommended the egg rolls and they were delicious. Corn soup was very tasty. Our entree was perfect. The iced tea is made fresh there and different from the regular tea I've ever had yet it is not to be missed. Can't wait to go back!!!

Gianna A.

Yelp
Food was ok service was sub par, would definitely suggest eating else where. It took over 3 hours for us to get in and out (with noone else there)
google avatar

Mathieu T.

Yelp
The wong tong soup was awesome! The imperial roll was so good and the Chow Mein simply perfect!!! You should definitely stop to eat here!!!

Melody C.

Yelp
the waitress is the rudest ever. I called and asked when the restaurant will be open and she said 5. So we waited outside from 4:55 and it's freezing. She's been standing at the cashier and just watching use. she could've opened the door for us but no. When it's past 5 she's still standing there, not opening the door. when it's 5:10 my dad finally knocked on the windows, and the waitress just looked up and ignored us again. We left without eating there.

T L.

Yelp
This place is right around the corner from where we are staying, and after being completely burned out on the québécois crap we've been eating daily, this place has been a relief. This is not the Chinese-American I am used to eating, but I guess not only are we not in the US, but we are also not in like Toronto or Vancouver or something, so that said this place was super pleasant and even if I think the food is probably not worth five stars exactly, I'd say that situationally this place is a definite five stars. Plus live music that was amazing. I felt undeserving listening to it.

Leah G.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite Chinese restaurants ever! We have been to Quebec twice and made sure it was our first stop in the second visit. I don't agree with the last reviewer that it is Americanized- usually I associate Americanized Chinese food with fried, very unhealthy, and drenched in sauce-- Wong's Chinese food is all homemade, healthy, and delicious! I wish we could find Chinese food like this in the states. I did give them 4 stars instead of 5 bc the wait to get your food can be a bit long. This restaurant is well worth a try!
google avatar

Harry W.

Yelp
Came Here for lunch with my parents.they wanted to have Chinese food. The food is good, but overpriced.

Beetsi S.

Yelp
We are from New York City and have decided that it's the best Chinese restaurant in North America. The food is fresh, the service excellent and fun! The broth is house made. The wonton soup and matcha green tea creme brûlée outstanding!

Ray Y.

Yelp
Overall good experience. It's not a busy restaurant. The taste is quite authentic Chinese. The food is a little bit salty.

Wenxing L.

Yelp
I am giving one star not because this is Americanized Chinese food, but because this is NOT FOOD!!! Even the "safest" dishes are inedible.

DDSD F.

Yelp
5 stars cuz I could eat delicious rice noodle dishes without wheat & soup thickened with corn starch (I'm a mostly gluten free, gluten intolerant eater; not a celiac). Very fresh veggies, good sized portions & they specified that their soy sauce had wheat in it in case that would cause me problems. Thanks for the honesty! My rice noodle dish was truly the best I've eaten in all the years I've been gluten free! Just enough beef for some solid protein, al dente veggies and the all-important rice noodles. The owner-chef came out to chat and thank us for trying his family-owned and family-run restaurant. We chatted for quite a bit about living and raising a family in Quebec City. Charming, funny Chinese-Canadian gentleman. Very glad his family still takes pride in offering delicious, quality food at very reasonable prices! Best wishes, Restaurant Wong!
