Sometimes a little luck goes a long way. Driving from Madrid to Bilbao, and a friend suggested I stop into a town called Miranda de Ebro along the way. "They have great roast lamb there". That's all he said. Okay...
Armed with that knowledge we pulled off into this town for lunch. On the road entering the town it didn't seem like that much. It was very industrial, very ugly looking, and we kept thinking we made a wrong turn somewhere. However once you get into the city center it's much nicer. We were walking around looking for this lamb, and stumbled into awkwardly into this bar asking if they had any food. "No", said the proprietor, "but go to la Vasca. Muy bueno".
Muy bueno indeed. It's in an alley, and it looks quite empty from the front. However when we went upstairs it was absolutely packed with locals. We proceeded to have a pretty amazing meal. It's definitely not cheap by Spanish standards, however, very worth it. The roast lamb was literally falling off the bone. Highly worth a stop if you're driving by this town.
