Magoga

"What we particularly like about Magoga is its young, modest yet professional team with clear ideas and a desire to serve the best cuisine possible. We could easily talk about the duo of chef María Gómez and her husband (sommelier and front of house manager); however; what is most striking here is the sensation of balance and harmony. The updated take on traditional cooking, including a flurry of modern touches, seeks to explore the roots of Cartagena’s recipes while showcasing locally sourced ingredients such as fish and seafood from the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor lagoon, fruit and vegetables from around Cartagena, and Calasparra rice. Added details include the excellent cheeseboard and the nods to the history of the city in its crockery (some of which is inspired by the famous submarine invented by Isaac Peral)." - Michelin Inspector

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Magoga while in port with our cruise. The service was excellent and matched the food which was extraordinary, excellent and generous. We ordered a la carte. The suckling pig, cheese coarse and tuna stood out. Save room for all of the extras! I wanted to order the Spanish potato salad by the quart ;). The wine pairing was spot on and it was relatively affordable for a meal of such quality. Final commendation to the staff who were extremely gracious and knowledgeable. I would say it is my best meal ever but hopefully that is yet to come. If you have an opportunity to dine at Magoga, by all means do so.

Magoga is an absolute gem in Cartagena! We had an incredible dining experience – the food was truly delicious, the service was immaculate, and the ambience was lovely. What really stands out is how beautifully the dishes are inspired by local products, creating a unique and authentic taste of the region. Every plate felt like a thoughtful journey through the flavors of Cartagena. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable meal!

We detoured to Cartagena specifically to see Magoga. Totally lived up to expectations. If you eat to live, go elsewhere. If you live to eat, think about it. Not cheap, but the experience is relaxed and friendly while being an elongated entertainment that is sophisticated and satisfying. The standard of service alone is impressive and the food is memorable. As Michelin says, worth the detour.

The food at Magoga was spectacular. We ordered the Anima menu. Great flavours in the dishes which were combined with a nice wine pairing. In the wine pairing was a lot of great heavy white wines, they were nice but they could have filled the glasses a little more. The dishes were well balanced. The chef used a lot of (chicken, beef, lamb and vegetable) broths. These broths were very rich and complex in flavour. For our taste it was a little to much throughout the whole dinner. The dresscode at Magoga is informal, so we expected the atmosphere to be a little less stiff. In the end we had an fantastic evening with our favorite dish being the smoked eel with fennel and foie.

We went for my boyfriend's birthday and tried two habitad menus. The choice was excellent. We fell even more in love with Cartagena and its gastronomy. Excellent service from the reception and waiters. The sommelier made an excellent wine selection, the wine we took was a famous german wine. Thank you.

Incredible service. Even the chief came to serve us. Delicious food cooked expertly. Lovely decore, clean and tasteful. First experience fine dining and a walk through Cartagena was a wonderful experience. That brioche bread was to die for and that wasn't even the best part!

Our 1st time dining at this level. Service is superb. It is like a pageant. Well rehearsed & delivered impeccably. Attention to detail & menu knowledge outstanding. Our starters confused us as they were served raw. Raw squid is a new experience I wish to forget. The suckling pig was out of this world good. The lam & tuna were also great. Pavlova was divine. The best coffee experience I have ever had, hand pressed Nicaragua beans roasted onsite. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

Fantastic tasting menu with pairing wines. Quality of ingredients really shines throughout this meal. Unique combinations that worked and presentation was exceptional. Staff were welcoming, polite, friendly and relaxed And very knowledgeable of food and wines. I was very sad to see and hear and the rest of the guests heard too an very rude and obnoxious American couple treat the staff the way they did. Constantly in and out for cigarettes. In my opinion people act like that at the start they should be asked to leave. However the team handled this couple very well. It did not ruin our experience one bit. I would consider maybe changing the restaurant music or a longer loop to enhance the atmosphere. Wonderful. Best wishes.
