"Radis is one of those places in which a young chef (Juanjo Mesa) with the restaurant business in his blood, experience working in leading restaurants behind him, and an undeniable desire to please has set up a business with a view to revolutionising the city’s dining scene. In 2023, Mesa won the title of “Best Olive Oil Chef” at the “Jaén, Paraíso Interior” contest organised as part of the San Sebastián Gastronomika festival, and in this small, centrally located eatery with a contemporary bistro feel and open kitchen he puts all his efforts into two surprise tasting menus (Bercho and Charca, with 9 and 15 courses respectively) inspired by tradition and his childhood memories from the small town of Pegalajar, in the municipality of Sierra Mágina. He has brought this cuisine fully up to date thanks to strong technique, a delicate touch and superbly crafted French-style sauces and jus. The essence of his cooking is summed up by one particular dish: broad beans, cod and radish, a delicious homage to his mother and to his roots." - Michelin Inspector

The least expensive Michelin-starred restaurants in Spain

"A few minutes’ walk away in Jaén, this newly starred restaurant, Radis (the French word for 'radish'), presents the 58€ AL-HAYAR menu on which chef Juanjo Mesa revisits timeless, traditional dishes, distilling his own vision of childhood flavours into a 9-course format that showcases his delicate technique and passion. Having earned his spurs at Nerua Guggenheim Bilbao, Mugaritz, Noor, and Bagá, he now declares: 'Radis is all about time-honoured recipes and home cooking, the type of dishes my mother would cook. And as I’ve always said, and will continue to do so, there will never be a shortage of croquettes on the menu at Radis!' The AL-HAYAR menu is complemented by a more extensive 15-course option, with no à la carte; it costs 58€ for 9 courses, excluding drinks and bread, and is available for lunch except Tuesdays (closed) and for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday." - The MICHELIN Guide

Great culinary experience. Very balanced flavours. Chef has great respect for the ingredients and is using a lot of local products in a creative way. The restaurant is really small, just 5 tables, but provides enough privacy and good view to the open kitchen where team works in harmony. Each dish gets explained (NB! If you are English speaking, then best have Spanish speaking friend at the table to help translate all the nuances). If at times set menus in Spanish restaurants may end up being quite heavy then this was not the case at Radis. Even after 15 courses you don't feel like you have been overeaten. Michelin star well deserved!

Warm welcome, with a passionate chef, pretty decoration with only 5 tables very pleasant guests. A shoutout to the waiter who takes great care of his customers and explain each dish. However, the dishes were all very salty, the pumpkin soup, las habas legas, and las migas were too salty that I couldn’t finish it. Otherwise the rest was very good.

Pues no, no coló.
