Restaurante Solana

We went for the long tasting menu, menú degustatión sotombo, on 10 September 2025. A few of the dishes were excellent, mostly the appetisers, but the three of the largest dishes were almost inedible and much too salty. The cod (bacalau) intestines, the Celtic porc sauce and the caricos (beans) dishes were way too salty and otherwise also not very nice tasting. The sea bass was replaced with another white firm fish which was not particularly nice in flavour, a much too large piece (large menu) and not accompanied by a nice sauce or sides. Even the lobster and prawn dishes were not of a very high level and slightly overcooked, though others at my table were less critical of those, but agrees on the issues mentioned before. The famous croquettes were nice but I've had better in basque country as a simple pintxo. Sparkling water bottles were quite expensive. The only enjoyable parts were most of the appetisers, the bread and the cheese ice cream dessert was interesting and tasty. Presentation of all most of the dishes was great, especially the appetisers and the cheese dessert. Staff was friendly but the one waiter who served us that was appointed to speak English was not very fluent. There was no real wine advice given, since I don't think the sommelier spoke English, but especially the bottle of red we chose ourselves, which the sommelier did compliment, was excellent and not too over priced. The view into the valley was beautiful, but you could book earliest at 20h and we could only enjoy it for 15min before it went completely dark. The interior was nice but not very special. Pregnant person with us, and they were not very sure what to do or how to substitute. They were asking us how we'd like to change the dishes which may be too raw meat/fish, the chef should know or give options/suggestions on how to change. When something couldn't be altered easily they gave the vegetarian alternative but they said those weren't wow either. The raw tuna dish was amazing and I just wish I could have had that one a few more times instead of all the disappointing dish we got after... A few outstanding dishes but so many missers that for the price I can't recommend.

Had dinner in the bar area and was completely blown away! One of the best meals that I. Have had in Spain! Absolutely delicious! You need to try their croquetas and the oxtail sliders!! Yum yum!

Woaw, que sorpresa! Everything was excellent, really worth it driving up the hill! Loved it!

Nice place, close to the Sanctuary. Breñas menu is great. Quality elaborate food in 12 small bites. Service was correct, efficient, and with smooth timing. Good overall experience.

Highly recommdable. We had dinner at the terrace and it was great. We ordered different raciones, all of great quality and finesse.

Unfortunately the cook was already gone but great service and nice people. Still want to go :-)

Solana has a Michelin star which based on the food, is well deserved. Three menus, long and narrow pre fixe, traditional dishes with a touch of invention, and modern interpretations. The food, presentation and location deserve more than a single star. The interior however, with its suspended acoustical tile ceiling, stacked stone columns and appointments does not reach the level of the food, and as an architect, a bit disappointing. However, no reason at all to not revel in the kitchen's stellar work. 5 stars.

We've been at this place early this year and were really impressed by the quality, variety and spectacular presentation of the food - will be back!
