"Chef Esdras Ochoa (Salazar, Mexicali) has closed his Austin, Texas restaurant Reunión 19 after less than two years, reports Eater Austin. The East Austin restaurant was a collaboration between Ochoa and Christopher Haydostian, with the latter telling Eater that labor shortages, landlord issues, and increased costs for goods led to the decision to close." - Farley Elliott

"Reunión 19 was a California-tinged Mexican restaurant in East Austin, opened in February 2020 by chef Esdras Ochoa and Christopher Haydostian. Due to labor shortages, rising costs, and landlord issues, the restaurant closed in October 2023. It was located at 1700 East 2nd Street, a place that previously hosted other establishments like Gotham and Al Fico." - Erin Russell

"Reunión 19 is a Mexican restaurant in East Austin. The chef is from Los Angeles, and the menu reads more West-Coast-inspired than most Mexican spots in town, with dishes like aguachile, tuna tostadas, and mulitas. But you’ll also find homemade tortillas, al pastor cooked on a trompo, and San Diego-style burritos." - Raphael Brion

This was such a lovely restaurant experience that I won’t ever forget. We happened to be the only people eating there that night, as austin was only just opening back up amidst covid lockdown. Reunion had its grand opening on February 14, just a mere one month before the country shut down. This explains why it hasn’t yet fully gained traction, but I’ve been telling everyone I know about it!! The house made salsa was so so good, and I’m not usually a fan of verde. THE STREET CORN. OH WOW. You 10/10 must try an order of this, even if you think you don’t like corn. The tuna tostada was fresh fresh fresh. We got a LOAD of tacos: banh mi, carne asada, k town shroom, cali-flower, shrimp, and pollo. All of them came with generous helpings of meat, and you could tell they take care to procure the best quality meats/seafood available. The k town shroom had an indescribably delicious flavor, I’ve never had anything like it. We also ordered drinks, and the frozen marg I had was the best ever - I’m usually an on the rocks type, but this was made to be so smooth. The owner treated us with the highest degree of hospitality, and took the time to get to know us and share with us the passion he has for his brand new restaurant (while keeping two layers of masks on the entire time). Definitely in love with this place, and I’ve been telling everyone about it. I can’t wait to be back in austin so that I can visit again!

I would give more stars if I could! The salsa and guac was the best I’d had because they were fresh and simple. The chips were also fresh and the perfect thickness. The food was incredible! I’m from El Paso and was missing the more authentic border Mexican food flavor, and this felt like a bite of home!! The enchilada sauce was rich and flavorful with a perfect amount of spice. They were also packed with chicken and cheese. Lastly, the dessert was light and sweet. The churro was crunchy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The service was friendly and warm! Will definitely be going back!

The TacoLover Meal [$45] for FOUR is To-Go only, offers two-ish pounds of 2 proteins to choose, 8 house-made corn tortillas, choice of their Circo Street Corn or Black Beans, Guacamole, Salsa, Chips, Limes, Cilantro, & Onions. »» Choices of Protein: 〰️Al Pastor (Spit Roasted Achiote & Pineapple Pork) 〰️Pollo (Tandoori MX Inspired Marinated Chicken) 〰️Carne Asada (Chargrilled Texas Angus Chuck) - MY FAVE! 🔥 〰️Camaron (Chargrilled Lemon & Garlic Shrimp) 〰️K.Town Shroom (Gochujang Laced Crimini Mushrooms) 〰️Cali-Flower (Cauliflower tossed in Adobo Sauce) They also offer Cali-Burritos, singular Tacos, Aguachile, Asada Fries, Enchiladas, Tres Leches (with Cinnamon Toast Crunch!), and more eats you cannot miss out on. To top it off, I got a Slush Box, which might be my new favorite frozen margarita in Austin. They serve you two in one bottle for $22 and you get premium Blanco Tequila, Cointreau, Lustau Fino Sherry & Spent Lime Husk Cordial. They also offer Cali-Mexi burritos, which are GINORMOUS and filled with french fries! Everything was DELICIOUS. I think that my fiancé and I ate ourselves into a food coma!

Absolutely delicious!!! Fresh, bright flavours with just enough spicy to sweet! I can’t wait to go back!!! I’ve tried 6 different items on the menu, and I’ve been impressed by each. The grilled shrimp was perfection (I’m picky)! The cauliflower taco was to die for! Never had anything like it! Perfect place to sit and work in the afternoon!!! You will go home, and keep thinking about what you ate!!! 💕💕💕

And I am super serious. Everything was fresh and authentic. I cannot wait to go back to try more things! Also the have real spicy sauce to add to your food. I think I fell in love😍 Also there is parking

Their margarita alone is an easy 5 stars and a welcome relief from the mundane over sweetened ones typically found around Austin. Menu offers the standard yummy fare with a tasty twist. Carne Asada taco is simple and designed to be enhanced. I’d for sure come again. Lots to explore here.

Very clean , cute restaurant, staff is awesome, Easy parking too! I opted to sit outside, enjoy the nice breezy day and listen to their great music. All tacos on a large, fresh made corn tortilla tasty enough to eat alone! They fill up your tacos too. The shrimp taco is baja style. Both pollo and asada are very flavorful, you can taste that the ingredients are fresh. Aguachiles- the best in atx, this is one of my favorite foods, I could never find authentic aguachiles in atx, until now. Price - pricier than your taco trucks, but I'm also not sitting on a fold-out table and chairs under a popup tent and eating off of a paper plate. (not that there is anything wrong with that!) my point is that Your not just paying for the food, your paying for the experience, the ambiance, the close parking, lol! I personally would not choose to come here with my 3 kids (too expensive) but I would definitely come for a girls night or a dinner date, anniversary party, etc.

Reunion 19 is definitely an interesting addition to the "Heart of Tex-Mex". I'm not particularly a huge fan of Tex Mex but "Cal-Mex" as a cuisine/fusion that didn't fall too far from it's southern cousin. Anyway, this was my first trip and at least I know I want to try more. I split a Tostada, a couple tacos (Al Pastor and Cali-flower) and a dessert (tres leches) so get a feel for the flavor profiles. Tostada was fine but I was surprised that with guac, pineapple, jalapeno and savory tuna, we would hit on all my favorite flavor g-spots but it was surprisingly bland. Tacos were deep and complete in flavor. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu! Tres leches was gorgeous but dry. I really liked the side of evaporated milk to fix that but there was a missed flavor opportunity that the cake gets by sitting in the milk over time. Basically, Im just not a fan of pouring milk on vanilla cake and calling it tres leches... Any who! I can't wait to try the rest of those tacos, and the crispy barbacoa and the loaded fries... And the street corn.... Thanks all.
