Cape Town, South Africa, Travel Guide

"Communal dining doesn’t get more intimate: with just one table, this is the Mother City’s most exclusive epicurean experience, where I make new friends over a five-course dinner built around “hyper-seasonal” ingredients handpicked by head chef and owner Julia Hattingh; book well in advance and arrive early for a glass of South African wine in the back garden." - Katie Jackson Katie Jackson Katie Jackson is a New York City-based writer who covers travel, food, and more. Guide to Cape Town, South Africa

"An ultra-exclusive dining experience built around a single communal table serving a five-course, hyper-seasonal menu curated by the on-site owner and head chef, Julia Hattingh. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to sip South African wine in the back garden, then mingle with fellow diners over a carefully orchestrated meal." - Katie Jackson Katie Jackson Katie Jackson is a New York City-based writer who covers travel, food, and more. OMG - this place is a MUST if you are visiting Cape Town and looking for an incredible dinning experience! It was absolutely a 10/10 for me and my friends. The food and wine were insanely delicious - no notes! The vibes were immaculate and the best part was meeting people from all over the world. It's an intimate dinner that cultivates an atmosphere where you get to know all other people at the dinner. We met couples from Mexico City, Canada and more - young and old. It was truly an experience you do not get often. We left with so many memories and we'll be talking about this dinner for years to come. It was so inspiring!

At Reverie Social Table, guests gather around one beautifully set communal table, accommodating 12–16 people. The atmosphere is warm and engaging, encouraging conversation among a diverse mix of diners from around the world. Attentive service ensures a seamless experience, while locally sourced, seasonal dishes are thoughtfully prepared and expertly paired with wine, enhancing every flavor. The curated menu showcases the best of Cape Town’s produce, making each meal a celebration of the region’s culinary excellence. For those seeking an intimate yet social dining experience where food and connection are equally valued, Reverie Social Table is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

We visited Reverie last night and the whole experience was faultless! Saw another review that mentioned the bread and butter, can confirm best we’ve ever had too, amongst everything else that was served. Thank you Julia and team for the incredible food and wine pairings!

The chef is amazing. Her team is great. The food was delicious and she masterfully paired the food with great wine. I highly recommend. It’s great if you come alone or with a guest. The concept of dining either people you don’t know at a communal table is fantastic (especially when paired with amazing food).

We were so looking forward to our evening at Reverie Social Table when we were in Cape Town in September. The evening lived up to our expectations and exceeded them. From the moment we entered and were greeted by Julia with a wonderful glass of wine, the evening began on a perfect note. We mingled with some of the other guests until it was time for dinner to begin. It was fun and interesting to learn about where people were from and trade stories of our Africa adventures. When dinner began, we were served one delicious course after another with an explanation of each dish by Julia and the sourcing of the ingredients. Each course was paired with the perfect wine from a local wine producer who was present at the dinner and offered insightful explanations of each wine. As the evening progressed, Julia suggested that we switch our seats around to speak with some other guests. This was such a great idea and afforded the opportunity to connect and share some more stories. Our evening at Reverie stands out as one of the main highlights of our trip to South Africa and we highly recommend this experience if you travel to Cape Town. We thank Julia for her hospitality and for the best dinner party we ever attended.

This was an experience I can recommend to everyone. Upon arrival you were greeted with a glass of wine. We had a good time meeting new people. The food was great and so was the wine pairing. It really feels like the owner wants this to be memorable for everyone.

What a fantastic experience! The concept is genius, met lots of fun and interesting people, the food was exceptional, Julia and her team know exactly what they are doing, and the wine pairing was just perfect. Eveything was top, food, company, ambience, cannot reccomend enough, will definitely be back! Does get booked up very fast so make sure you book well in advance.

Julia basically hosts us in her 'dining room' , which is dominated by a huge table for ~20 people. We met our partners in crime in the back for an aperitif and then sat for a 5 course meal. Julia has chosen the wine for each course while we are busy to get to know each other. What a lovely idea to meet strangers over dinner with all of them having the same purpose in mind: being curious. The food is outstanding, the service too. The whole experience lasted for ~5 hours and it was a blast.
