A Definitive Ranking Of Literally Every West Hollywood Gay Bar

"You’re probably at Revolver because you’re too drunk to realize it’s not Micky’s and you’re under the impression that go-go dancer is in love with you. Revolver could be any gay bar anywhere in the world, which also means it’s quite popular. It also benefits from having dozens of TVs playing iconic music videos and a great corner location where hundreds of girls finally decide to take off their high heels and cry." - brant cox

The LA Break-Up Guide: Where To Go When It All Falls Apart - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Of course you’re going to miss him, but your sex life also had the vigor of a high school production of Our Town. Nothing a night out in Weho can’t fix. But in the event several hours of bar-hopping with your friends proved unsuccessful, just get yourself to Revolver on Santa Monica and Larabee by 1:30am. You don’t even have to go in. Just stand there and let the magic unfold. " - Brant Cox

Came to see the first 2024 presidential debate. They were sponsoring an official watch party. The crowd was really having fun. My candidate did exceptionally well! Had a drink and it was good plus it was only $7. Typical WeHo service lol. Whatever. The bar looks pretty cool. The building facade is really nice. Meter parking available. There’s a nearby parking lot on Larabee. I only paid $10.

If you want to go to a place where the bartenders are totally okay with drugging drinks, the totally go here. If you want to go to a place where management isn’t held accountable and creates an environment for thieves to drug and steal your belongings… then go here. If you want to have an experience that is like the movie The Hangover… then you betcha this is your spot. This didn’t happen to me, but to my friend who was born and raised in a small town of Colorado.

Google
Best Dancing corner in West Hollywood. No entrance fee, affordable drinks, best gogos. Friendlier vibes and interactions, best experiences everytime 👏👏👏

Google
So I have mixed feelings about this place. It’s usually our first stop on a night out. Good vibe but watch out for pick pocketers!!! My phones been stolen right out of my pocket at the urinal and I know 2 others who had their phone stolen at this place. Keep an eye on your sh*t! Also tonight in particular the bathrooms smell rancid! Yuck

Samuel Lynn

Google
Never had to ask for permission to use the bathroom at a club. What a weird vibe. 0 stars if possible.

Back in the early eighties revolver was one of the first video bars I've ever been to. It's a legend and one of the gay hot spots you need to visit if you're in Los Angeles. The pictures are from Bros for Hillary party on the night that Hillary made her speech at the Democratic National Convention. Great looking guys at this bar hand ateres where you can watch guys walking by coming home from the gym. You have to come the revolver if you visit Los Angeles.

Google
The bartender was really polite and made great chat, shame I didn't get a name but he recognized me after coming in for a third night this week. Went with my friend while he visited and I gave the dancers some tips for their service, lol. Great atmosphere and lively as well. Would come back again when I am off for the weekend.

Google
The bartender older man with a beard refused to serve me a drink because he said my pants were all down but the security said it wasn't douch bag not great at all tonight 11pm on 2/05

Yelp
In my opinion, Revolver Video Bar is a highly underrated spot on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood. I've been here a couple of times over the past few months and have had only positive experiences. While definitely on the smaller side, the ambiance is nice and intimate. The music is always top notch. Featuring great drink specials, an outdoor patio, and even a beer pong table, this place is definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Bad experience coming to this place two weeks ago when my sis was visiting from mexico,, we were i. The line ready to go in after we show our ID to the white security man and suddenly the hispanic security call us you guys out of the line pls, i ask him is there any problem and he says, you guys are not going in.. i ask him why and he says just because i say so what an ass.. i loved the place for many years, but not anymore... poor guy hes life must be so miserable..

Yelp
I had an issue regarding 2 female attendants at the restroom being quite rude and aggressive, even saying a homophobic slur behind my back in Spanish when asking if I could look for something I dropped around the bathroom area. I also had an issue with a drink we Chad purchased. I did speak with Rich, the owner of the establishment, and he was understanding and apologized for the situation. I like how Revolver does take its patrons seriously, and how it offers solutions when a problem arises. I've also had help in previous visits from the bartender themselves when I had dropped some glasses and they handled it very quickly and professionally despite there being a lot of people and noise. Overall great customer service.

Yelp
Revolver is a decent bar (the second incarnation of the original), good drinks, decent music, hot go-gos. But my 2 star rating is for not accepting CASH. WTF with not accepting CASH. I'll go elsewhere where cash is accepted.

Yelp
Horrible bartenders in all of West Hollywood!! Sooooo rude and no customer service skills what so ever! I asked for a vodka soda and instead I got a tequila soda. The moment I corrected the bartender that gave me a tequila soda he told me to "shut the fuck up and get out of his bar" . Mind you I never saw this bartender ever before in my life. I been coming to revolver since day one of its opening. So if anything he's the new guy in the block. This bar has always been my go to spot but after the pandemic these bartenders are rude as fuck!!! I hope management see this and a little word of advice don't hire people that can't take the heat of a busy bar otherwise your just loosing loyal customers. I heard flaming saddles bought this bar! I hope they did and they fire everyone and start from fresh. It's not like those bartenders wanna be there anyway. Also , I read a comment about that one female bartender saying how horrible she was. Let me tell you she slammed the lime case protector on my hand after grabbing a lime. Then she told me "ask" which I did 5 times , after the 6th time I grabbed on my own not my fault she couldn't here me. She's lucky I didn't press charges of assault on her. Always problems with the bartenders . I can't wait for flamming saddles and "hopefully" their new staff.

Yelp
Cocky bartenders . It's card only no cash because of Covid but cram more than 100 people in there lmao.

Yelp
Beware! RUDEST BARTENDERS in all of West Hollywood! Starting with the good, I have visited Revolver frequently throughout the years and have noticed a slow decline in the upbeat, lively energy that initially attracted me. Recently, the last 4 out of 5 visits have been horrible. Four different bartenders on four other dates have given me the worst attitudes I have experienced in West Hollywood. What's worst than a bad day at work and deciding to have a martini at one of your favorite bars? An arrogant bartender argues with you saying your favorite drink, a lemon drop martini with Tanqueray, is "NOT a martini, and you don't know what you're talking about." Another time I visited, a bartender asked for my order, and I, like always, greeted them with a smile and asked, "Hi, how are ya?". Many bartenders at other establishments in the past have smiled back and said, "I'm ___; thank you for asking; you're the first person to ask me how I am doing today"! No, this bartender responds, "Hurry up! You're wasting my time! What do you want"? The first time I noticed the decline was earlier this year when a few bartenders were chatting behind the bar, seeing me with my card in hand, whispering to each other, and blatantly ignoring me. After about 10 minutes of me patiently waiting, one of them rolls his eyes, huffs, and annoyingly says, "yes?!" as if I am bothering them for my first drink of the evening... It saddens me to see this once great bar fall short of such terrible customer service / nasty bartender attitudes, and I, unfortunately, will never come back. I never leave Revolver feeling great and lively like I used to in the past. In the last 4 out of 5 experiences, I had left that bar feeling worse than when I walked in.

Yelp
Revolver is always a fun time, but it does get extremely crowded here on weekends since it's not super large so that may not be everyone's cup of tea. However, the music is usually on point (and they play music videos on screens throughout the bar as well, like many other WeHo establishments) and the dancers are hot! Plus, the drunker you are here, the less the crowded factor matters anyway

Yelp
I've been coming to this bar for over 7 years, however, I came tonight after a 3 month hiatus and the Latino security guy decides to pull some racist shit tonight 06/08/2023. He allowed the two white dudes in front of my friend and I to walk right in without hesitation.. but as soon as I came along he stops my friend and mfor ID. When I asked him why he did not ask for the two first guys ID cards, he said "because you guys look younger and that's a compliment" .... when in reality I have a full beard and so does my friend while the two white dudes In front of us looked at most 19. I told the guy he doesn't have to be racist and should treat everyone the same and he just ignored me. I've been coming to this bar for over 7 years; and it may have been my final time. Do better.

Yelp
Fun place! Drinks are decent and bartenders are cool. Watch out for pickpockets, as they frequent this place and the entire area. My phone was stolen right out of my pocket without me even noticing. My friend had the exact same thing happen here.

Yelp
I don't know who the owner of this place is but they are about to have a major law suit on their hands. I am filing legal action against based on discrimination towards me. I have a disease called "En Coup De Sabre" which manifests as a indentation and discoloration of the forehead. This is a rare disease that is very noticeable. Attached pictures of my forehead. The bouncer stopped me and shined a flashlight on my forehead after checking my ID and asked me what is on my forehead. I said I have a disease, then he is like "what is the disease called" and at this point I was pissed and asked for his name and told him that it's none of his business nor should I discuss my medical condition with him as it does not pertain to me going into a bar. He stopped me further and wouldn't let me in, and refused to give me his name. I pushed my way into the revolving door and he was trying to push the door the opposite way so I would not get in, and I was strong enough to overpower him to get inside the bar. He then chased me around the bar telling me I have to leave and I asked to speak to the manager. The manager "Dave" told me that his name is "John" and that he was just doing his job and that I need to cool off and stop being angry. I asked for an apology that I did not get and they wouldn't still let me stay at the bar and threatened to call the police for anything that I had not done. His reasoning was to make sure he doesn't let anyone in the bar who was drunk and had stumbled into the ground and hurt himself and cause liability for the bar. Attached is a picture of my face and my disease. You tell me after flashing a damn flashlight and seeing the instant skin and the discoloration of my forehead you still think that I fell to the ground and I was drunk and that is why It warrants you to be a compete ASSHOLE? The manager and security need to be fired. Well they will be fired after the owner received my discrimination law suit that will be filing very shortly. I was completely sober, not belligerent or trying To cause a scene. I was simply trying to go meet mh friends in the bar where I was harassed and discriminated for no reason. Shame on management for employing such animals with no sense of decency or customer service from the management.... instead of apologizing and offering a drink to keep me calm they kicked me out. Well guess what HUGE MISTAKE.

Yelp
Came here back on April 15th. I was one of the many people that got their phone stolen. Called the place to inquire about their lost & found and nobody answers. Typical. The last location that FindMyIPhone detected was in a place a block away where I never was at the night it got stolen. Go elsewhere. This place is packed shoulder to shoulder which makes it easy for thugs to pickpocket you especially while you're drinking, so beware.

Yelp
This place is LIT!! The gogo boys are HOTTT! The place is jam packed and the music is on point. I like that each night I went it was a diverse crowd. All around just a nice place top pop in, dance and have a good time.
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
Fun bar, good drinks and very good service. This place has been around but feels new. Great Patio. Good music. Extra streetside/ non covid patio. Thankfully they check for vaccinations. Drinks are pretty good depending on the bartender. Parking on the street.
google avatar

Lindsay L.

Yelp
Been here a few times this past year and this the second time my friends and I get terrible service from the bartender. Different week. Same shitty attitudes. Used to like this place. Now I'll be skipping. Managerment needed a meeting on greeting customers and managing under heavy crowds. Very unpleasant and unwelcoming. . Blah
google avatar

Jesus C.

Yelp
The bar tenders last night really gave me a hard time because I didn't tip! I've never in my life seen an employee press a customer for not tipping when i was barely on my third drink I was still gonna buy more. I didn't because that really ruined my night.
google avatar

Tony T.

Yelp
Pretty active place. Lots of people during the week nights and weekends. Also pretty active during Sunday Fun Day. Music seemed to be played every second of the bar hour. Feels a very more upbeat and modern crowd. Primarily modern wear that people seem to dress into. Drinks are at a reasonable price.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Currently at the bar. Love the Sunday Fun day. But what is it with the smell lately. Seriously like a sewer. This bar needs a good douching. Please fix it. Thanks Boo

Ben J.

Yelp
Bathroom situation is a nightmare. Long lines. Ever time I go to this bar, which isn't often, a urinal is broken or a full bathroom is closed again! Can't you afford to fix your shit?

Yelp
It pains me to write this. Revolver used to be my favorite bar. It's gone downhill since its post-lockdown reopening. The bar used to have a couple courteous and good bartenders. Those days are gone. A few nights ago, I pointed out that the Coke was off in my Bicardi Coke. In other words, there's something wrong with the syrup or carbonation. Coke is a popular mixer; you'll be serving it all night. Fix it. The aloof bartender replied, "It's the only Coke I have." Fixing the problem doesn't require NASA's intervention. I returned the following night and got another undrinkable (super sweet, under-carbonated) Bicardi Coke. (Maybe they're using a knock-off brand.) I went to a different bartender on night 2. We were slack-jawed at how rude and inattentive this guy was. I'm normally great at finding at least one solid bartender at my usual haunts. I'll stick with them and go out of my way to avoid people who aren't great at their jobs. I have no options at Revolver. None of the great people returned after it reopened. IMO, this is reflected in the bar's devolved crowd. Revolver doesn't pull in its quality pre-pandemic clientele. My guess is that service has played a hand in this change. My second issue is that management has inexplicably shut down the back room since the bar reopened. This change is counter-intuitive in the midst of a global pandemic. The front (and now only room) is totally over-packed, making it difficult to get cocktails. The dancing crowd currently bleeds over in the lines of people waiting for drinks. Why would you want to make the space MORE compact during a pandemic? Opening the back room would help ease Revolver's congestion problems. One improvement I've noticed is security. Oh, and David is fantastic. More people with David's energy, please. If I'm with 3 other people and we all stand slack-jawed at a bartender's aloofness, there's an issue. Two undrinkable Bicardi Cokes on two consecutive nights= problem. How hard is it to produce a drink as basic as a Bicardi Coke? All of these problems are solvable. Let's hope they get solved.

Yelp
After reading all the reviews, it appears that several other people have had issues with the security at the door not allowing people into the bar for various reasons. This place should really invest in a ID card verification reader or replace some of the staff who are on a power trip. My friend was denied entry because they didn't believe his ID was real. The security actually told him it was fake. It was an AZ driver's license, so how would he know it was real? We had been to 2 bars prior to coming here and had no issues. After refusing to let him in, we called a manager out who was basically useless and said "well I trust their judgement because they are out here more than me." My friend even returned with a picture of his passport, further verifying his age, and still wasn't allowed in. There are so many other bars in the area, so I would suggest going there instead.
google avatar

Christopher S.

Yelp
The times I've gone, extremely sloshed, irresponsible and belligerent packed crowds with loads of thieves all over. No authentic security. This establishment also appears to practice unjust rules and policies in my opinion. Stay away from these types of patrons and establishments. Could end up costly. Choices.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Best gay bars for dancing seemed to be revolvers, hi tops, and the abbey food and bar. Revolvers was playing good music, Beyoncé and top hits. Had multiple male dancers.
google avatar

Rebecca W.

Yelp
Did not know Monday night bar hopping is usually Musical monday. Woops. Well、it wasn't a busy night but regardless、 the bartenders can care less. They weren't the friendliest and I was ignored for a while before being noticed. Basically got my drink asap and they took my money asap. I unfortunately noticed it later on but the gave the wrong change as well. It's dark and they're rushing to do everything but make sure you double check your money. They handed it to me all folded and walked away pretty fast so I didn't pay attention until last minute. Read a few reviews about this problem so be careful! The drag show was pretty nice to watch but my friends and I chose the wrong day to wanting to go clubbing at WeHo. No bouncer problem for us that night though. Overall、 cool interior with shows as well. Really nicely decorated. Feel free to check them out but as usual、drink responsibly and make sure to double check the change you receive!!

Yelp
My phone was stolen here tonight. Terribly crowded. I told security that someone stole my phone out of my purse and they did nothing about it. They could've searched bags, nothing was done to be helped. my friends couldn't get a drink at the bar for 30 mins. Not to mention -I wasn't drinking. Be weary of this place, extremely sketchy!!!

John R.

Yelp
I fucking love this place one of the few remaining truly gay bars in the area. I always have a good time here Mustafa friendly and the drinks are generously poured x Saturday afternoons are great fun I always make a point of going here with my friends and have yet to have had a bad tongue the one blazing good point In this place is a bartender call BRANDON Who is always friendly and engaging and also happens to be one of the sexiest fucking men I have ever seen in my life I freely admit I go there sometimes just to drool over him. Lol
google avatar

Stella S.

Yelp
was here last night with a group of friends, shoutout Nova for the wonderful service and for being so down to earth!! as someone in the industry myself ik Saturday nights can be crazy and she handled everything so professionally and was super sweet

Jesus S.

Yelp
Smells like mildew or mold. Not at all a pleasant smell to walk into. Hopefully they fix that soon. But when you walk in it's literally instant.
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
What can you really say about a gay bar in weho...You'll often get the same thing everywhere you go. It's small compared to some of the other bars in the area. Drink prices are comparable to most bars. I think that they shouldn't allow smoking in the patio area because it's so small. One smoker there means everyone else in the patio will be inhaling it all in too. It's gross that people don't see an issue with smoke blowing into others faces. It's okay if you want to die, have bad breath, and ugly teeth....just don't make us suffer too. 3 stars for the ratchet queen blowing smoke in my face. Oh, and the dirty bathrooms.

Bayley S.

Yelp
My phone got stolen as well out of my purse. The security guard was pretty nice and said they try not to let the thieves in.

Jefferey M.

Yelp
Great music! Bar tender remembered our order every time we came back to the bar! Dancers were hot and hyping up the bar! Highly recommend, especially if you're out in West Hollywood on a Sunday!

Yelp
Finally stopped by this place the day before the 4th of July. It was crowded, and I hadn't stepped foot in this place in quite a while. First of all, it's a video bar, and one would expect good quality video. I'm not talking about the content; that's another issue. But the video being displayed was of such of poor quality that it barely was of better quality than the videos that were displayed during the first iteration of Revolver. Grainy video in the era of HD is perplexing. It looked like they were streaming video from an Apple laptop. Second of all, I'm not convinced that my drink was what I ordered. I ordered a mixed drink, and the waitress (who was nice) asked if I wanted to up the vodka to Absolut. I agreed, had two of them and ended up with a pretty nasty hangover the next day. I'm no lightweight. (References available upon request.) And finally, yeah, I'm a bleeding heart liberal, and the Second Amendment isn't my favorite one. In fact, it's not even in my Top Ten. But their Friday promotion is Big Gun Fridays, and on the Friday of the Aurora, CO shootings, they continued to keep this promotion and post pics and videos of guns on their Facebook site. That's pretty heartless. The least they could have done was suspend that promotion for one Friday. It's just gross.
google avatar

Bill T.

Yelp
The music here is awesome. And I'm not just saying that because I watched nothing but MTV between 1983 and 1990! Oingo Boingo, Rick Springfield, Human League, Def Leppard, Eddie Money, Cece Peniston, Bananarama, Expose, Gloria Estefan, Jermaine Stewart, Men Without Hats, Madonna, The Cure, Erasure......just some of the awesome artists they spun on the video machine. The only way this could've been better is if they played "We Built This City" by Starship. The crowd was also fun. Friendly, talkative, not too cliquey....this would be my go-to spot in LA if I lived here, which thankfully I don't. Bartenders were nice, drinks were reasonable. I don't know why you'd go anywhere else.
google avatar

Derrick C.

Yelp
I swear to the heavens.......... Everytime I come here it's just an amazing time. They def cater to the industry crowd and as a professional recording artist this is a great hangout. It's great to be around other great performers that just want to connect and have a great time. Remy and his security team always makes sure that I and my team are safe and satisfied. I thank them so much for making sure I feel comfortable and safe from harm. This is the high end West Hollywood experience.
google avatar

Charlyn D.

Yelp
We were hopeful lesbians from out of town who got 3 vodka sodas and a drink for $14 and once we received our drinks we had to use the restroom so had our friend (who took us here and knew the previous owner who passed away) hold our drinks while we used the restroom. Apparently we took too long and we're accused of doing drugs harassed by being called "straight girls" and fat. Coming from someone above 6 foot in a tacky dress who apparently worked there...who was very aggressive and threatening. The security guard was sheepish and kept saying we should leave instead of just saying we were being kicked out. We should have stayed at The Chapel. Inclusion is where it's at...its 2019 and get with it.
google avatar

Jay S.

Yelp
Crowded - pretty rude bartenders - and pretty up-tight bouncers. Not a good time here at all. Good luck.
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
I'm not sure what was going on tonight but I was at the front bar for 10 minutes trying to order drinks for me and my friends and we couldn't get anyone's attention to come wait on us! It wasn't crowded and there were five bartenders behind the bar chitchatting with one another (Did I mention there were FIVE bartenders behind the bar?). As we left, we mentioned this to the Security guy working the front door, and he just shrugged. We left and went down the street to another bar. I'll never understand why bars who's livelihood depends on serving drinks has difficulty in fulfilling that simple task?? My recommendation is DON'T go here on a Sunday night!
google avatar

El Z.

Yelp
Super fun gay bar with bartenders who completely over serve you. Unfortunately they lost a star bc they have world's WORST go-go dancer. The dude wore a fake dick, stood there on stage counting his singles, and checked his phone nonstop. He couldn't have looked more bored.
google avatar

Tyler B.

Yelp
Definitely the classiest local Gay bar hang out and with by far the best staff imaginable.

Yoli G.

Yelp
I had an extremely bad experience with the bouncer at the front of this establishment. I am a 29 year old woman who is on the heavier side. I was waiting in a sea of thin, white, blonde women and when it was my turn to get my ID checked he looked me up and down and laughed at me. He said that I did not match my ID when I clearly did! I just had slightly darker brown hair at the time my ID was taken. The way he looked me up and down was disgusting and did not give ANY problems to the thin girls in front of me. Mind you these girls looked EXTREMELY young. He said he could not accept my ID when he definitely did not let me in because of my weight. He was trying to claw at any excuse. This bouncer is horrible and fatphobic. Shame on this club. I added a picture of the body shaming bouncer from the previous reviews!
google avatar

Andy G.

Yelp
Absolutely bizarre. The bouncer was so unfriendly...he said "you're drunk, you can't come in" when I only had two drinks previously. I had friends inside I planned on meeting, but I couldn't for NO REASON aside from "well you must be a lightweight". I understand it's his job and I wouldn't want a gross drunk next to me inside, but how would I be able to talk to you in complete sentences in an educated fashion, without swaying or slurring, and politely explaining in detail how you must have the wrong idea all while I'm "too drunk?". Then you push me away and threaten me!? What is going on here!? I ended up doing a dance near the entrance that required lots of balance because i was irritated and wanted to prove a point lol. Really weird, I mean if it's a capacity issue or you're closing up just tell me, but don't be a complete asshole. Thank god I live down the street, but image if I drove from a distance...I'd be pissed! I only write reviews when the circumstances are absurd and this was, he was on a power trip or something, idk. He's gotta go.

Chloe S.

Yelp
The bouncer was aggressive with me, claiming my id "wasn't me" when it is. A girl can't cut her hair?! He held onto my id calling another security guy over, my friends are inside waiting for me. When they come out saying the place is terrible and we're going to Mickey's. When I take my id back the security yelled at me to "watch your fucking attitude!" What attitude?!?! He was rude and aggressive towards me when all I said was "no that's me." He can go to hell for all I care. Go to Rage or Mickey's, better and friendly service there
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Worse than one star. Came in at happy hour. Didn't order off the happy hour menu and still got watered down drinks. So went back and asked to pay for another shot of vodka to be added and still had to pay as if I got the whole drink and not just a shot added to the original drink. And the bitch was rude Management rusty. Just came and bought us all drinks

Yelp
I came here last night for a friend's birthday. I had an absolute blast! The bartenders were nice and the drinks were amazing! I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 only because they need to expand and make this place bigger! It was packed and we could barely move. All in all, the overall energy was just fun! If you are hitting Weho for a night of fun and adventures with friends, start here and work your way down! You will have a blast. P.S. Make sure you are sober enough to get in and out of the door....It's a revolving door. ;) I hope this review helps! :)

Yelp
This bar is an older clientele, so if that's what you're after go here. What annoys me most is that when you ask the bartender for water they push a bottled water to you when tap is free.... stop trying to rip people off and you'll be a 4-Star bar.

Yelp
The only thing that this bar is good for is the $2 drink specials on Sundays. Bar staff always seem to be pissed here for no reason. Like chill bro we're here to party, not feel like bothering you. I like the atmosphere though. And the front door guy is hilarious. Love the dancers and the music!

Yelp
Cool karaoke bar on Tuesday; standard price for weho, be prepare to wait an hour to sing a song as you will be bumped by locals...nothing new here. A good experience overall except maybe for the lady bouncer at the door who was doing some boxing move on the side of the street (weird and ghetto) - not really welcoming. A+ for bartenders, keep up the great job.
