Our Readers' Favorite Islands in the World of 2023

"Rhodes, known as the "Island of the Knights," is steeped in history, with its medieval city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcasing ancient ruins, fortified walls, and grandiose architecture. Beyond history, Rhodes offers stunning beaches, like those in Faliraki and Lindos. Travelers can also venture to the other Dodecanese islands, each with its own unique charm." - Travel + Leisure Editors

For me, this island is the most beautiful in the world; it holds a very special place in my heart. I don’t know maybe I lived here in a past life or something but it truly feels unique. Every year, I always plan to visit it again whenever I can. It’s so interesting, really. It feels like home. I have a deep sense of belonging there. But my advice to tourists is this: please, I kindly ask you, keep the island clean. Throw your trash in the bins and make it your responsibility to leave the environment as pristine as you found it. During my last visit, I was saddened to see how much pollution the island has suffered. It really upset me. This island’s charm lies in its natural beauty that’s why you come here. So, you have to leave it the way you found it when you go. Also, please show respect to the locals of the island.

Rhodes is a beautiful place to relax – perfect for holidays! ☀️ One big plus is how easy it is to find gluten-free options, even in local shops. Greek food is absolutely delicious, and many traditional dishes are naturally gluten-free, so you can enjoy your time here while eating tasty and healthy meals. I truly recommend visiting Rhodes – it’s one of the Greek islands we’ve been to where eating gluten-free and staying healthy was super easy and enjoyable.

A magical and varied island, full of deep historical architecture and rich welcoming culture. The food and wine was excellent, whether we ate simple local food or went high end. I had very little idea how liveable it would feel, as the old town has everything one could need to be comfortable. A slower simpler pace of living is possible here, and we were lucky to have stayed with a wonderful warm family that shared home cooked delights with us. We also found it easy to travel around and go to other islands. The weather is perfect for me as it’s hot yet breezy so I would recommend it to those who also enjoy that kind of feel.
