"Strong ties with western North Carolina’s farmers, foragers, and food artisans are the cornerstones for the simple yet elegant Southern fare that five-time James Beard Award finalist John Fleer crafts at Rhubarb. Count on the pimento cheese hush puppies or rabbit rillettes with chow chow as a foolproof starter for the ever-changing menu of small plates and entrees that can range from wood-roasted local trout or smoked bison short rib to ratatouille tartare." - Gina Smith

We had a great experience here for Restaurant Week. On a cold night, we enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, had amazing service from Andy, and were able to try so many different things from the menu with their flexible “Creat Your Own Tasting Menu” special. We will definitely be back to support this wonderful restaurant! A few pictures of the Sumac House Chips with trout dip, fried quail with a delicious mustard slaw, and the pork loin.

Amazing evening. Had a 7:30 reservation and we were promptly seated. Rhubarb definitely lived up to its reputation. Our waitperson, Carrie was incredible and so were all the other staff. The gnocchi, the hoecake, the short rib, and the pimento cheese hush puppies were all excellent. Last but not least, the blueberry “mess”, what a fun and delicious combination of flavors and textures. Thanks Rhubarb.

This is absolutely the best food we have had not only in Asheville but anywhere in a while. Oyster Benton, exquisite, chicken liver mousse I would order again and again. The bread is baked fresh daily and it showed. Would go back again and again for those three things, but the strip steak was tender and perfectly prepared and paired nicely with the veggies. You only have to taste the food to know this is a true farm to chef to table. This is a not to miss restaurant. Wine selection is worthy of the 5 star dining. Our server Trey was hospitable and made great suggestions for us. We will be back. . . Often.

Came here for dinner with friends. Able to get seating for a group of 9. The food was great. Mushroom appetizers and sweet potato fries with egg were good. The mushrooms were very meaty. I had the whole chicken which was really good. I usually don't get chicken entrees at restaurants, but I'm happy glad I did. The desserts were great too.

Google
A lovely spot for some local delicacies. Highlights and celebrates local farms and producers. The staff was extremely insightful and charming with their familiarity with the menu. I’d strongly suggest the carrots, trout, and the bread service. The strawberry sundae was incredibly comforting and nostalgic.

Google
We were excited to try this place because the menu looked more interesting than Posana next door. The ambiance is so so. Service was great. Their sweet potato was literally less than half a sweet potato, plain baked, with an egg and some popcorn on top. For $18. Sausage was so so, hard to digest. The only dish we liked was the bison short ribs, but at $29 it was a tiny portion, which became tinier when we ordered a second one. Also the only thing that tasted good on that plate was the actual meat.

Google
My son took me to Rhubarb for my birthday. It was wonderful. Great area of Asheville in a cool historic building. The food was tasty, have the pimento cheese hushpuppies! The chicken, mushrooms were well seasoned and yummy. You have to get a banana pudding! If you only go in for coffee and dessert, don't pass up the banana pudding! The pastry creme, fresh bananas and vanilla wafers were all a perfect balance of flavors!!! The summer cocktail was delicious!! Enjoy!!!!

Google
Novel combinations of taste, experiential quality above quantity. The food was so rich, flavorful and uniquely styled that you don't feel compelled to devour, rather savor. My dining partner described the overall style as "forage-y," and that's a pretty accurate statement and more delicious than one might rightfully expect given such an appellation. The goat cheese burrata was a highlight, and the flat iron steak did not disappoint either. Angel food cake was uniquely prepared and fun to eat. With the overall bill being about $80 a person it's not cheap, nor does the rustic ambience necessarily justify the price. But if it's a fresh farm to table culinary adventure you seek, one with twists turns and deliciousness hiding in unexpected places, give it a try!

Yelp
Got the hoe cakes, duck wings, wedge salad, goat cheese burrata, and hush puppies. All were a hit but the hoe cakes - it was the only thing we didn't finish (just didn't resonate with us.) The duck wings were different and tasty, the goat cheese burrata disappeared quickly (and we asked for more of the bread-it was very nice), and the salad and hush puppies were solid. These were shareable plates, and they worked well for four people to get decent-sized sampling portions. If you're hearty eaters (or really hungry) you'll probably need to order more. (We'd had a big lunch so weren't famished.) The atmosphere is kinda rustic, very pleasant. Service was helpful and attentive.

Yelp
We enjoyed this farm to table restaurant! Our server, Nicholas, helped a lot with my sister's dietary restrictions. He checked things with the chef, offered menu suggestions, and was attentive and friendly. We sat in a nook by ourselves and it was so fun! The little touches, even in the restroom with the industrial toilet paper holders, candle, and yummy soap were nice! Our only wishes: a vegan/gluten free dessert that was not sorbet, and a smaller fish option with no eyeballs & bones!

Anna K.

Yelp
I still dream about the comeback sauce in the hush puppies appetizers. Their apps are huge and great for sharing. Get the bread and butter - you can't go wrong.

Alex O.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience. Absolutely love this place. My favorites were the oysters, pimento cheese hush puppies, the hoe cake, and the trout.I love the peanut butter budino dessert, and my girl loved the rhubarb dessert. Kelsey was absolutely amazing. We will definitely come back the next time we are in town.

Yelp
My mother and I had the chance to dine at Rhubarb during a trip to Asheville, NC recently and we were blown away! everything was wonderful from the wine selection to the desert. She had oysters and I opted for a pork dish. We were so pleased with the locally sourced meats and produce on offer in innovative recipes and combinations! We will definitely be returning when in Asheville again!

Alex A.

Yelp
Wild rice and mushroom dish was excellent (and vegan without butter). Bread service was stellar. Old fashioned with local rye was spot on; less good with bourbon. Kind service. Good vibes for gatherings of all types.

Viviana G.

Yelp
Won't lie, this wasn't our first option, but was so glad we ended up here. The food was delicious and the dessert! Woah, the peaches and cream was the best dessert I've had in a while. Wasn't too sweet, which is my preference and it was cold which made it all the more better in the heat. We sat outside since we had our dogs, and the waiters were super accommodating and sweet. Although it wasn't like other places around that had dog menus etc, they brought out water containers for our pups, and brought us some chopped carrots for them to munch on when we requested it and were super sweet. really enjoyed this place and our pups loved the carrots and water, thank you!

Yelp
My wife and I dined at Rhubarb during a recent trip to Asheville. We had a later reservation on a Wednesday night and were promptly seated in a lovely table near the window. We also had a nice view of the open kitchen in the back as well as the chefs table. The restaurant was less crowded than I would have expected but that may have been due to it being later in the season. Our server was quite prompt and we quickly got two cocktails which were excellent. We ordered the mouse, burrata, bouillabaisse, and sweet potato. The mouse itself was very good but i did not love it with the crispy lavash. The Burrata was out of this world and paired amazing with the sweet onions and vinaigrette. It was one of the best Burrata dishes I have ever had. The bouillabaisse had plenty of seafood and a great low country kick. I almost couldn't finish it given how rich it was. Overall the food and service were excellent clearly making Rhubarb one of the top restaurants in Asheville.

Cacki T.

Yelp
I wish I was a wordsmith or poet so I could accurately describe our dining experience. What a wonderful evening. The food was beyond superb, the pimento cheese hush puppies were phenomenal, the beet salad was even better! The pork chop with the grilled peach just cemented our evening. And the cherry hand-held pie!!! Yummm. The staff was excellent and attentive (Thank you Carrie). A definite must do for dinner!

Pam C.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that if your restaurant is called Rhubarb, one would expect that anything made with rhubarb would be exceptional. Alas, this was completely opposite from my experience at Rhubarb. I'll start with my initial rant: we ordered the rhubarb pie with visions of sweet and tangy rhubarb in a flaky buttery crust. Instead we were served soggy rhubarb, visually unappealing and small and with brown burnt crust. My meal was also borderline inedible. I had a house smoked sausage that was dry and unseasoned. The beans underneath were bland. My brown food was plated on a brown plate and oh my!, it looked as untasty as it was. Husband had the smoked pork Osso bucco. Overcooked and charred on the outside. Sides were good. Left the restaurant hungry.

Yelp
Exceptional! Rustic interior with an open concept kitchen. Really enjoyed being seated near it. The menu is creative with surprising ingredients packed into each item. Very accommodating for my dairy allergy - I was dining with a large group and was given my own annotated version of the menu so I would know what my options were. I was willing to forgo an appetizer, but Allyson + the kitchen came up with a veggie plate for me! I was surprised and really just amazed at all the flavors on the plate. I ordered the scallops and the modified plate of them was delicious. So many different flavors included and it was plated beautifully. I loved their wine menu and the Te-pach-eh cocktail. Finished the meal with lime sorbet which had flavor that transported me to a pier at the beach. I'm so grateful for the excellent kitchen here and Allyson! Her ideas were insightful, helpful, and delicious. Bonus points for her suggestion for a member of my party to have a dessert wine spritz. Can't wait to come back and try more items from the menu!

Christin D.

Yelp
Out of this world delicious! This farm to table restaurant is a must visit. We will be back without a doubt.

Ed D.

Yelp
This is one of those places we've walked by many times and said, "we need to try that". We finally did last week and weren't disappointed. The food was authentic and flavorful with small, medium and larger entree-size offerings for sharing. The indoor dining space and warm and inviting. They also have a large dog-friendly patio. One of the highlights was our server, Carrie. She was well versed with the menu and offered helpful insights when selecting a bottle of wine.

Dani P.

Yelp
Rhubarb was another recommended restaurant to us for Asheville! It was a fun little date night farm table style. Featuring lots of local produce/meats with farms local to NC! We loved that they support local farmers as we both grew up on farms that provide grains and beef. We loved our cocktails, are varying entrées, and the sorbet dessert. The choices were a little bit more limited to me being gluten and dairy free but our server was very kind and working with me to figure out what options I could have. It's a smaller beautiful little space for a date night. Recommend getting a reservation!

Asil A.

Yelp
This is a cute upscale restaurant in the heart of downtown. Great location and easy to get a table. Outdoor seating is available however it's slightly loud since it's next to the Main Street. The food overall was okay. We had the short rib, burrata cheese, the turnips, bread and hush puppies. They are small portions so you won't get full off of one dish. The service was great. The food came out very quickly. Overall it was a good experience but to me the food wasn't anything special.

Jolie F.

Yelp
As this restaurant received such great views, I had to visit! The atmosphere is ok, a bit industrial like, thus not very comfortable for sitting. I did receive a great table in the window which was ideal for people watching. The open kitchen concept is nice as well! For dinner I ordered the goat burrata. It was good but not great. The dish was not presented that well and tasted a bit bland. For dinner I had the trout. The fish unfortunately had too much salt: what a waste. The filet was actually a nice cut. As for the sides on the trout plate: the garbanzo beans were good but had pickles in the mixture- odd combo. The green were tough to cut. As there are so many great restaurants in Asheville, I unfortunately would probably not come back to this establishment and would recommend other to try another popular location.

Jared C.

Yelp
Pretty cool spot downtown right by the art museum. It's got an industrial vibe and a nice bar. I could have drank their Collins cocktail all day, and the burrata was great appetizer. We tried it all! The trout, the rice, the brisket, and even the gnocchi- all of them were great. Our server was attentive and helpful. Only suggestion is new chairs, sorry to be picky.

Alicia G.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! Some of the best food I've eaten! Seriously, can't go wrong with anything you order!

Linda W.

Yelp
I was looking forward to a creative and well prepared meal based on reviews and perusing the menu but was sadly disappointed. The "simple salad of hearty local lettuces" had raw brussel sprouts leaves, which I later found out were supposed to be deep-fried. They removed the charge from my bill but not till I complained about raw cabbage leaves on the trout entree and said why do they keep serving indelible raw vegetables. That's when the manager came over and I told her the trout was salty. She had a new one prepared and this time the cabbage was sauteed. For dessert the pot de chocolate was supposed to have "meringue" but it was a soft white, untoasted mess on top, along with a chocolate chip cookie that seemed out of place - I sent it back and asked for the check.

Lea L.

Yelp
Very overpriced for mediocre food. Half chicken for $45?? It was 2 chicken legs, more like a quarter.

Allison T.

Yelp
Rhubarb gave me an experience to add good memories to my food journey. Service by Carrie was top notch. She is the best and brings a great energy to your dining experience. The food is perfectly prepared and I left wishing it wasn't over. Delish!!!

Justen A.

Yelp
Overall great experience from the time we walked in until we walked out. Our server, Carrie, was attentive and knowledgeable. Drinks were amazing, and the food was perfectly prepared. Great job, and definitely recommend.

Yelp
As a foodie, I was excited to make my first visit to Asheville. It has become a mecca for fine dining. I attended the James Beard Awards this year and witnessed two Asheville restaurants (Curate and Chai Pani) both win national recognition. I would have loved to have dined at Curate, but it's closed on Monday. So I went with Rhubard, whose chef has been nominated multiple times. We left Rhubarb underwhelmed by our experience. I love the taste and richness of butternut squash soup, so I tried the Peanut and Butternut Squash Soup. What an odd combination. After two spoonfuls, I said no more. I was surprised our server didn't say something when he removed the nearly full bowl. My wife loves burrata as a starter, but we were surprised to see it served with big slices of toasted bread. We ordered the Rhu Bread Service, but our server should have told us that we didn't need to order more bread. That's the way evening went. Our two entrees were excellent. I ordered the Grilled Marksbury Farm Teres Major Steak, that featured two large, super tender medallions. My wife ordered the Smoked Ashley Farms Half Chicken, which is a large portion that two could share. To prepare it, the chicken is soaked in a cider brine. The skin had a strong salty taste, but was moist and tasty inside. After clearing our entrees, our server didn't ask us if we wanted dessert and presented our check. Why would you assume we didn't want it? I will be surprised if someone from the restaurant reaches out to me to learn more about my experience. We still gave our server a 20% tip, even with the service miscues.

Annelies V.

Yelp
My fiancé and I went to Rhubarb for a romantic date night, and had an amazing meal. We had a reservation and were seated promptly at an intimate table which was lovely. Our server was Kelsie, and she explained the menu and was very attentive and knowledgeable. We started off with the three cheese plate and drinks. The cheese plate was well composed and delicious. My fiancé got the half chicken and he said it was flavorful, moist, and tender. I got the scallops and they were perfectly cooked and the flavors were well balanced. It was one of the best dishes I have had. I'm not typically a dessert person, but the lemon tartlet was impeccable. It was a perfectly balanced. We also chose to go with the dessert wine pairings that were recommended and it was delicious! Overall, 10/10. We will be back!

Yelp
For our 8th year anniversary, my husband made dinner reservations for us at Rhubarb. Rhubarb is dog friendly, which was important to us, because we wanted to bring our dog along with us. Rhubarb's outdoor seating is completely covered, which is great for rainy and winter days, AND for bringing your dog with you to dinner. To celebrate our anniversary, we selected the Raffaldini, a local NC red blend, which was very cool. The wines are very reasonably priced, which I can appreciate. For food, my husband and I shared some kind of pate, the gumbo, the braised lamb shank, and the carrot cake for dessert. Unfortunately, the pate, the braised lamb shank and carrot cake all tasted very mediocre. The gumbo was an Appalachian styled gumbo, not like gumbo from Louisiana, so that was interesting to us, and tasted pretty nice. Rhubarb was named one of the best restaurants in Asheville, and for the prices they were charging, I was expecting really tasty food and larger portions. I really want to support and like Rhubarb, because their staff members were so sweet and accommodating, and they are dog friendly. Unfortunately, their food was just ok.

Steph H.

Yelp
I don't give 2-star reviews often but I just can't rate this place higher. My husband & I eat out a lot, at many different restaurants all across the price spectrum. We were visiting Asheville and as I heard from a friend that the previous chef from Blackberry Farm was here, we were intrigued as that's a highly regarded resort with amazing food. Everything was a disappointment here unfortunately. From the lackluster service, unmemorable drinks, poorly executed food... there was truly nothing we really liked. This place is much more casual than I expected given the price points and boasting such an inventive farm-to-table culinary experience. Cornbread was dry, bitter (and I don't mean unsweet, we are use to real southern cornbread) & overall unenjoyable. We also had the short rib and we were served one whole portion (there was 3 smaller pieces) that was pure fat. How could they serve that? Our server was nearly nonexistent and we literally had to flag someone else down to get our check after waiting much too long. It's a hard pass for me & I do not recommend it.

Joe H.

Yelp
Overall the food was good. We started with the Pimiento Cheese Hushpuppies which were good and lighter than normal hush puppies. The best dish we had was a sausage and Sea Island Red Peas dish that really did not need the sausage. Would have loved just a big bowl of the Red Peas. We also had the Hot Water Cornbread which was interesting. For mains we had the Celery Root Schnitzel and the Wood Roasted Chicken, while both dishes were good, in both cases the accompaniments of the dish were better than the Schnitzel or Chicken.

Christian B.

Yelp
I have eaten here many times, but the best memory for me was Valentine's Day. There was a prix fixe menu and it was absolutely phenomenal! My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner together, with great atmosphere and service. This is probably my favorite restaurant in Asheville as they consistently do an outstanding job!

Janis K.

Yelp
Loved the industrial design "vibe" of Rhubarb. Cocktails were nothing short of stupendous- thanks, Nick! Menu: incredibly creative, thoughtful use of seasonal ingredients that made "farm to table" even more inspired. Less inspiring, however, was the blunt force & heavy handed use of oil/butter. It dulled the deliberate balance of flavors and ingredients that the chef in mind when the dish was created. The loaded sweet potato- case in point. The butternut squash soup- further evidence. But neither example would prevent me from returning:)

Victoria S.

Yelp
Rhubarb lived up to the hype for us! The food was delicious, the desserts were outstanding, and the service was friendly and unpretentious. For our meals we had the gumbo, trout, steak, and I would definitely recommend all of them. We were so full from dinner that we almost didn't have dessert, but since we were celebrating a birthday they offered us one for free. Good thing, because the two desserts we tried were outstanding! We had chocolate mousse and a lemon cake. The descriptions of both on the menu sounded a little strange, but we just trusted that the kitchen knew what they were doing, and all the flavors that I wouldn't have thought to put together blended magnificently.

Dana M.

Yelp
We had a wonderful visit to this restaurant. William, our server, was absolutely fantastic. We sat at the bar that looked over the kitchen and got to learn how a top rated kitchen operates. I especially appreciated the nonalcoholic cocktails available. My husband really enjoyed his tequila cocktail with grapefruit and lime. Our favorite dishes were the Barada salad and the wood roasted trout.I would definitely return to this restaurant

Jessica G.

Yelp
Overall, great restaurant in Asheville! Reservations highly encouraged as this is a popular spot! Atmosphere was welcoming and cozy and the service was top notch! Great drink menu as well! We ordered: GOAT CHEESE BURRATA - absolutely loved this! I love all burrata, but goat cheese is even better. Lots of great flavors with the squash and caramelized fennel. Highly recommend! EMBER ROASTED FULLY LOADED SWEET POTATO - surprisingly good flavor! Wasn't sure what to expect with this based on the description, but loved it! GRILLED APPLE BRANDY FLAT IRON STEAK - this was absolutely delicious. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, the steak was cooked to perfection and was just the right amount of food.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Leading into my recent Asheville trip, I came across the Rhubarb menu several times while in search for best restaurants. Each time I did, I passed over it unimpressed but fortunately I wound up here on my second night and was absolutely blown away by every dish. I was so blown away, I came back for a second dinner during my 5 day visit. The staff is also great. Ordered the following and each was excellent. - rabbit tartine - baked oysters - cheese plate - chicken - hoe cake - pork dish

Deb H.

Yelp
Chelsea was our server and was amazing. The staff works as a team and are friendly, helpful and attentive . The chefs table was a great experience. The chefs answer questions, even when they are busy, and that has not always been our experience at other restaurants. Besides the photos, we also tasted the hot water cornbread and smoked ham hock terrine. Rarely do we love everything we try but the flavors, the presentation and the execution of every dish was outstanding! The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming and this is a must try!! No seat should be empty in our opinion. Gratitude Will&Mango

Yelp
AMAZING dinner at Rhubarb this weekend! I am visiting Asheville with a friend and we happened to make a reservation here for Friday night. It's located in the heart of downtown Asheville surrounded but other restaurants and nightlife. Overall, the food was amazing. We started with the Black Earth Salad and had the Goat Cheese Burrata to follow (pictured). The cheese was phenomenal! For dinner we split the half chicken and ate every last bite. We followed with the panna cotta for dessert (also pictured). The panna cotta was a bit different than your traditional, but still tasty. We had Carrie as our server and she really made our experience exceptional. Will definitely be back when visiting again and recommend to friends!

Michelle S.

Yelp
We went to rhubarb for Sunday supper when we first started dating 6 years ago and went on our first trip together. It was so memorable for us and since we had just gotten engaged decided we should head back and do it again, even though there isn't a Sunday supper anymore. (We weren't sure we could top it)! Man, dinner was still just as good as I remembered, our server was the absolute sweetest and it made us just feel so full of love and life while we were there. Please go, you will not be disappointed.

Paula B.

Yelp
We tried this spot for the first time 10 days ago and everything just missed the mark. The menu was interesting but limited so we tried a couple different dishes to share.Duck wing appetizer came out cold and the heirloom tomato salad was mealy and terrible. No flavor and shocking given the fact that it's prime tomato season. It was most definitely a bad tomato. The roasted chicken had decent flavor but a bit dry and the roasted potatoes that came out with the chicken were absolutely inedible. Dry hard and not properly cooked. The only dish that was well made was the fish. Our waiter tried but seemed upset when we sent back the duck wings and never followed up with us. It was almost like he gave up. Even the kids meals were meh and only the Mac n cheese tasted well made. It's a shame bc it looked like a nice spot to try given the excellent food scene in Asheville. I hope they check their food quality control and improve their plates. I truly hate to give a bad review but it's important to keep the restaurants informed. I would skip this spot while in Asheville.

Sharyn L.

Yelp
Service was top notch. Attentive and friendly but not overbearing. They have a nice outdoor area that was pretty much enclosed with plastic on a chilly evening. Our dog was very welcome on the patio, which is always a big plus for us. The food was fine, but not remarkable. I like the idea of farm to table dining, but my trout was not terribly exciting. The wild mushroom and the chowder sauce were delicious, the grit cake was dry and odd, and the green vegetable was pretty tough. My husband's steak was good, but again not exactly newsworthy. Decent wine list and we really liked the Albariño we ordered. A little overpriced for the meal, especially if you are hungry as the portion sizes are modest. I'd maybe give this 3.5 stars, but I rounded up to 4 because they brought out complementary bubbly since we were celebrating our 10 year anniversary.

Tony H.

Yelp
The quality of the food is very good... The people are pleasant and service attentive.... However, how the dishes are prepared is not consistent from one dining experience to the next.... I recommend that if you make reservations that you request "in the building" not outside text to the loud snd. Very busy street corner... I do recommend this place for a nice meal and a couple of drinks.... Enjoy!

Carlin M.

Yelp
First time to Rhubarb on a recent trip to Asheville and really enjoyed our dining experience. We opted for a seat at the Chefs table (bar) and it added to the experience to be able to see all the different plates being made - especially because the dishes are unique and fresh. We started with Pimento Cheese Hushpuppies (fairly standard, but good and filling) and the Goat Cheese Burrata (outstanding and the dish we say made the most). The other really tempting starter we didn't get but highly considered was the Baked Ricotta Gnocchi and Rabbit Ragut (would definitely say this was the second most made dish behind the Burrata). We split the Wood Roasted Half Chicken and it was delicious- meat fell off the bone, dumplings and veggies were a great touch. We don't typically order chicken out but had no regrets. Would return to Rhubarb in the future!

Renko R.

Yelp
Awesome Farm-to-Table restaurant located in downtown Asheville. Ended up at this place with my cousins late Sunday evening (maybe an hour or two before closing). We ended up ordering one of everything on the menu (and a few more than once). Prices were great and we were really happy with the food!

Zak F.

Yelp
Would probably rate in the high 3's if it were an option. The burrata was good and the Bavette steak was good, although the potatoes underwhelmed. I really like farm to table. However, the quality and portion sizes don't adequately reflect the high prices.

Lydia E.

Yelp
Incredibly underwhelming. I have no desire to eat here again. We tried 6 different items and nothing made me go WOW this is INCREDIBLE. The winter chowder was yummy and the scallops decent but the rest of the food lacked flavor and complexity. Our last dish was literally a baked sweet potato they tried to disguise as culinary excellence by adding some pieces of popcorn on top with an egg...it did not taste how it looked...Go to Curate, Nine Mile, Chai Pani, or anywhere else before here.

Christine S.

Yelp
One of the best meals that I have ever eaten Beautiful restaurant Great service We ate: Bread service. Soft tasty large roll baked in a metal tin, served with sea salt butter Radish salad. Shared this. Beautiful flavors. Amazing dressing. He had: the half chicken. A huge portion. Crisp, tender chicken with perfect potatoes and greens I had: seared NC flounder. Incredible flavors! And a sauce to pour over. Highly recommend this delightful restaurant.

Mary R.

Yelp
What a major disappointment! We arrived in time for our reservation and immediately felt unwelcome. The hostess was snippy, the bartender couldn't be bothered and we were told our table was going to be outside (it was 59 degrees and the patio area was not pretty or where I wanted to have a special dinner). We had an incredible experience at Cucina 24 the night before so our expectations were high. Management needs to reel in the attitude here, if guests doesn't feel welcome, most won't stay. We didn't and would never go back.

Suzanne S.

Yelp
Gosh, I wanted to love Rhubarb. I've had it on my wishlist forever. It's truly Farm to Table. It's well-hyped. It's beautiful inside. The service was impeccable. But the food just missed the mark. And face it, that's why we're here. We had reservations for 4 at 7 pm on a Saturday night. We arrived a few minutes early and they were able to seat us early. Yes! The place has every table full before we arrived and after we left. Somebody loves it. Lots of somebodies. But it wasn't our table. I go out to eat a lot. I like higher-end restaurants. Sometimes I think that makes me more jaded than educated because sometimes it might take a lot to impress me. Before I go I've normally researched extensively and decided what to order ahead of time. This time, they were missing the dish on the online menu that I'd chosen so I had to call an audible. No big deal, I'll ask the waiter for guidance. When I told our waiter I was between two dishes, and asked for his input he said one was more springlike, and one was more fall-like. So, I chose the one I couldn't get at just any restaurant: The Braised Leg of Lamb. We started with a snack of Sumac Spice Calas with Strawberry Chutney. These reminded me of a cross between hushpuppies and beignets. Sounds yummy, right? These were really flavorless. The chutney was tart and bright but was too much for me even though I suspect it was exactly how it was meant to be. Back to the Braised Leg of Lamb...The menu says it was prepared in a Vindaloo sauce, served with a spring succotash and lentils. The lentils were served looking like refried beans. It was a lot of lentil. The braised lamb was cooked well, fell off of the bone, and by itself was good. The vindaloo sauce was overwhelming to me and I just couldn't get past the huge flavor profile. I left the majority of the dish there, I just couldn't make it through. My daughter had Ricotta Gnocchi and we all agreed her dish was the best. The homemade dumplings were pillowy soft and nearly melted in our mouths with barely a chew. The sauce it was in was a bright green dream that was just delicious and fresh. My daughter didn't care for it, so my son and I helped her out. I would have preferred a bolognese, but this was light for spring. My son had the Smoked Chicken. This was the worst dish of the night. The chicken was smoked pretty heavily, that's the only flavor I could taste. But worse, the skin was flaccid. It was inedible and flabby. It was served with Barley Berries, Swiss Chard, Charred Shallots, Pepper Vinegar Jus, and Pickled Nettles. All of the garnish was flavorful and well made, but the star of the show was left on the plate. We were of course still hungry so decided to order the dessert in hopes that we could be satisfied. The dessert was fine. It was not special, but it was good. We had a strawberry sundae, carrot cake, and lemon cake. They were beautiful as you might imagine and we were glad we ordered. I'm not sure if we visited on an off night, made wrong choices, or have simple palates. All I know is that I drove 90 miles for a restaurant that couldn't top one in my own backyard. So for me, it was kind of a fail.

Yelp
Good food, location, service, & excellent vodka martini! We split the hushpuppies, burrata (highlight), trout small plate (highlight), romaine salad was delish, and an eggplant snack which was okay but not my personal favorite compared to the others. It was decent but the others were that good. We sat inside near the bar/open kitchen and it was a nice spot, too.

Yelp
Food here is good because it's fresh and farm to table. The staff is a little bit snooty and has this policy where if it's freezing cold outside they make you wait outside until they open the doors at 5 PM. If you'd like that kind of treatment then this may be your place. For me, this last time I'm coming Ipdate... I wrote this while I was waiting for my other friends to show up this is what happened next ....as fate would have it they said they couldn't find our reservation, So we ended up going someplace else. That place was Table restaurant, which even though it's restaurant week in Asheville and they're busy as can be found a spot for us and welcomed us for a fabulous dinner Definitely a patron of Table Restaurant asheville NC

Yelp
Rhubarb hit restaurant week out of the park! Riley waited on us and made our evening special. We started with cocktails- Paradise Lost for me was unique and delicious. The restaurant week menu started with three "snacks" which were actually quite substantial- a salad with duck, a frybread with sunchokes and a rarebit with a local blue cheese. The duck on the salad was so good- I hope they put a duck entree on the menu soon. We both had the beef shortribs for main course and the porcini/cocoa rub was excellent. Shared one of each dessert. With a bottle of good wine, this meal was a rare treat. The location is right in the center of downtown and the interior was comfortable and has nice vintage touches. This was a first visit to Rhubarb but it will not be the last.
