CH Projects Is Bringing a Faithful Take on Middle Eastern Food to 30th Street | Eater San Diego

"Opening later this summer in North Park, Leila is a Middle Eastern restaurant envisioned as a personal declaration of culture and family by CH Projects co‑founder Arsalun Tafazoli, who hopes the spot will showcase the region’s cuisines in a way that highlights their unifying similarities despite the wrenching time in the Middle East. The 4,800‑square‑foot, nearly 100‑seat space will serve Persian and Lebanese dishes with Moroccan influences and a serious bread program, featuring foods Tafazoli grew up with such as tahdig, a saffron‑infused Persian rice with a crisp, golden crust that can be served with stewed or braised meats. After an extensive search the group signed Wesley Remington Johnson (Zahav, Marigold Kitchen, Castagna, Submarine Hospitality/Tusk) as executive chef, joined by CIA alum Justin Ayoub, with Leigh Lacap returning to oversee the bar. Tafazoli researched the design in Morocco, sourcing light fixtures from the Marrakesh souks; the custom bar will include terracotta pillars and tiles inspired by sacred sites and the dining room will be filled with an eclectic mix of artwork from regional craftspeople." - Candice Woo

A riad in the heart of Marrakech, right near the center and very close to the market. The staff always opened the door for you, you had to ring the doorbell which we thought was great for security reasons. It was a great advantage that it was positioned extremely close to the main market, you could get everywhere immediately. The room was clean, it was cleaned like a hotel every day and you could tell it was a newer riad. The breakfast very good and filling. The only minus is that if you stayed on the ground floor like us, you could hear everything from the hallway the walls being thin. But for us it was not a problem as it was quiet in the evenings. Very good value for money, I recommend!

My experience is bad even without getting over there. I don't have idea on who was responding to messages....the cost was more than actually showed up while booking ( asked in message to pay cash)..........wanted to check the amenities and received laughing icons in return..........so rude and not enough explanatory. just cancelled for not to suffer while i reach there...

I recently stayed at Riad Leila in Marrakech and had a fantastic experience. The owner was incredibly polite and went out of his way to assist us with everything we needed. His English was excellent, making communication smooth and easy. The breakfast and tea served on the terrace were exceptional, some of the best we've had in Marrakech. The owner even waited for us until we returned to the Riad. Although we didn't have time to take advantage of the massages and road trips offered, we'll definitely consider them on our next visit. The rooms were immaculately clean and tidied up every day, earning a perfect cleanliness rating of 10/10. Additionally, the Riad is conveniently located near the market, just a 10-minute walk away. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and we look forward to returning.

It was Okay for a night. 👍🏾: the AC was probably the best thing in my room. Also that it’s newly renovated. The location is also centrally situated which is a plus. 👎🏾: The room size is small, they need to invest money in the towels and beddings , they’re worn out. My room was newly painted and was uncomfortable staying there with the AC and window open. The breakfast is a zero - dry bread and tea with spread and yoghurt. i was told they don’t serve eggs everyday. The conversion rate used by them if you want to pay in dhr is high (do keep that in mind), also they charge more for taxes / head / night.

This is in a very good location still in the Medina but just on the edge, you can walk 50 m to a taxi stand to catch a taxi anywhere else in the larger city. It's just off of very busy commercial tiny street (souk), and the alley that it's on is a nice bit of quiet before you get to the door. The place is very cute and it seems like there's new paint and new bathroom fixtures, as well as a nice modern TV and air conditioner in our room. The rooms are quite small and immediately off the courtyard. but they make up for any size problem by being stylish and cute. ||Our bathroom is actually very very pretty and artful, with very nice tile and the shower is well made with good fixtures and good water pressure.|| The operator seem friendly, but I think they really tried to rip me off with a setting up a taxi for tomorrow morning. They also seem to unplug the Wi-Fi when anyone isn't around, so you have to ask for the Wi-Fi to be turned on every time you want to use it. the AC in the room worked, though it's cycle did seem to make a strange grinding noise every 4 minutes or so. The Terrace is nice, I might say average but clean, but there isn't any View at all. For the fact that there seem to be dozens of hotels around, this seems a little high-priced, but maybe I've been traveling in the countryside for too long. He did get up early to make us a small breakfast as we had to leave early to get to the airport, so I appreciate that. ||My biggest negative was that I did ask the propitiator if they could help me get a taxi set up for the morning, as we were going to be going to the airport early, and he quoted me 30 EURO, when it should have been 3. I said no thank you, and then asked another hotel manager on the same road, and said maybe 10 euro. I walked to the taxi stand myself and got one for 15. even that was ridiculous, but the taxi driver was vigilantly waiting for us at the appointed time, which was nice. Again, should have been 3. That sort of petty rip off really leaves a sour taste with me. otherwise would say this was 5 star.

We were very happy with our room on the 3rd floor. A spacious, clean room with a comfortable bed.|It’s a small Riad and is good value for money compared to a lot of other Riads we looked at.|The breakfast is served on the rooftop & was quite adequate. |Staff really friendly & went out of their way to help.|The only downside to this Riad is that there is nowhere to relax outside should you wish to read a book under the sun or shade. |Sometimes other guests were noisy upon their arrival/return to their rooms.||

GOODS: Property is near at the squares, like 10min walk, breakfast was full of food (is served, not a buffet) but good. The staff was always available because they have a mini reception or else you can write them via booking.||BADS: Our room was in the ground floor and the room was too dark, even with lights on, the shower didnt have a door/ cover but the bathroom has a door. If you are outside the riad and you want to enter you need to knock or ring the bell because they're not giving you a key for the main door, so if you keep doing that and no one is in the reception you need to wait until they open you.

Riad is absolutely lovely, decor, cleanliness, exactly as you can expect from the photos. What makes this place truly excellent is the staff! The gentleman who runs the show (I am not actually sure when he sleeps) is an absolute angel. No request is an inconvenience. We arrived last moment at 11pm after a disaster of a Riad. Despite the late hour, we were greeted with a smile and the utmost courtesy. ||||If you need a cab, let the front desk know. They will call you a trusted one, ensure a fair price, and checkin with you when your return. Thank you for the wonderful stay!
