Riad Hotels in the Old Medinas of Morocco

"The riad hotels of Marrakech, by their very nature, are small — these walled residences simply don’t scale up to grand-hotel proportions. So if you feel like there too many riads to keep track of, you’re not wrong. But within the endless repetitions of the form there’s plenty of subtle diversity, and what sets Riad de Tarabel apart is two things: its sheer grandeur, and its aristocratic French Colonial style." - Mark Fedeli

Riad Tarabel, Marrakech, Morocco - Explore & Book

"The noise fades away as we step through the rustic door at the end of a narrow alley in the chaotic labyrinth that is Marrakech’s medina. More a private residence than a hotel, Riad Tarabel is a magically romantic blend of Moorish architecture, French colonial style and contemporary touches.Generously built around three courtyards, with 10 airy rooms and suites, this adults-only haven is the epitome of subtle sophistication: lush palm leaves, ornate shutters, sleek rattan furniture, wooden ceiling fans, large comfy sofas and candle-lit nooks, dotted with nostalgic globetrotter curios reminiscent of a bygone era.Delicious traditional Moroccan dishes are served on the huge sun-flooded roof terrace. And, at the touch of the button, the huge gold-framed mirror in the courtyard silently glides open to reveal the riad’s killer feature: a glorious hammam & spa. The serenity is only occasionally interrupted by the gentle splash of someone gliding into the pool, the gurgling sound of our sweet Moroccan mint tea being poured, or the muezzin’s hypnotic call to prayer in the far distance. This is a fabulous place for an escape à deux, or a very civilised house party. Highs Incredibly elegant décor with lush touches that create a blissfully tranquil vibeAttentive, friendly staff. Every interaction is light-hearted and funSo cosy. We arrived to a warm pool, roaring fire and toasty suiteThe sublime in-house hammam & spa Les Bains de TarabelGuest mobiles with pre-programmed essential numbers (so the team can rescue you and your newly purchased Berber rugs if you get lost in the souks) Lows The steep, winding staircases to the rooms on the first floor (and the roof terrace) have no railings and can be a bit precarious for the elderly or unsure-footedThere’s no bar, but your G&T is only a quick call away on your pre-programmed guest mobile Expensive, but worth the splurge" - Maia Tarrant

"What sets Riad Tarabel apart from other similar properties is twofold: its sheer grandeur and its aristocratic French Colonial style. Perhaps most striking about its interiors is the absence of North African kitsch. Instead, the design relies on the inherent charm of a courtyard mansion in the heart of the medina to establish a strong sense of place. The overwhelming impression here is one of pure elegance—Second Empire furnishings set a refined tone, complemented by freestanding Victorian bathtubs." - Tablet Hotels

Riad de Tarabel | Best places to stay in Marrakech

"This refined, amenity-packed boutique hotel is housed in a former mansion, just around the corner from the Dar el Bacha Palace. Tree-lined terraces and cosy nooks provide idyllic spots for dining in-house. In keeping with the colonial style, oversized birdcages and peacock chairs add decorative touches, alongside the photography collection and birds of paradise flowers. An Alice Through the Looking Glass type-door leads to an exquisite spa, housed in its own multi-level riad, complete with steamy hammam. The location – the Dar el Bacha neighbourhood has been dubbed the Mayfair of Marrakech – couldn’t be better; steps away from the Secret Garden, interior design and fashion boutiques, and some of the medina’s best restaurants. We had a wonderful experience at Riad Tarabel. It’s a super central location (at the heart of the Medina) and nearby to lots of great coffee spots, souks and eateries. We were very kindly collected at the airport, and by members of the team at the road to support us with luggage. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful throughout our stay. Room was very nice and comfortable; and breakfast on the terrace was delightful. Would highly recommend if you want a peaceful oasis within the chaos of the city!

Outstanding. Simply perfect. Not cheap. But you certainly get what you pay for here. So enjoyable and the staff were wonderful - not too fussy, not too slack. I’m not sure there’s a better way to explore Marrakech to be honest. If only all other hotels were like this … faultless.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The service was excellent and Jaàfar and the rest of the staff were always incredibly helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was delicious. The hotel itself is beautiful, very comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. We truly enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend it to our friends and familly. We will return, for sure!

A friend recommended one of the big 5 star hotels in Marrakech…..I’ve always wanted to stay in a Riad and I’m so glad we did!! I looked on line and they all look really nice, but I also wanted one in the Medina and a smaller Riad. I found Tarabel and the reviews were great so I took a chance. The manager, Laura, made sure to get our flight info and secured us with a FAST TRAK to help speed us thru the Marrakesh airport which I hear can take hours sometimes. She also lined up transportation so making it through the airport was super easy and fast! One of the staff met us at the gates to the Medina (no cars allowed in the Medina) and took our bags to the Riad. The Riad is stunning! The attention to detail is incredible and the staff is so nice. They served us tea and showed us around the hotel and then brought us to our gorgeous room. They prepared dinner for us at the Riad and it was just my wife and me sitting poolside with candles and a beautiful setting. We felt like it was our private palace. I think there are only 10 rooms but we barely saw anybody there. We used the pool day and night and again it was just us each time. We also did the Hammam at the hotel and loved it. It’s very special and then we had great massages. The Riad is very centrally located and we walked everywhere. The breakfast included and is on the rooftop and is so yummy. Thank you to the staff and to Laura for helping with all the lunch and dinner reservations, museum recommendations, arranging transportation, and the wonderful service and for making us feel so welcome! We hope to come back one day OR to try your new hotel in Lisbon!!

If you’re visiting Marrakech and looking to stay in the Medina then I highly recommend Riad Tarabel. My wife and I stayed here during our honeymoon and it was one of the best decisions we made. Despite being in the Medina the Riad is shockingly quiet and we had no issues with noise. The rooms are spectacular, the breakfast is great, and the property as a whole is beautiful. Laura, the property manager, and Khalid, another staff member, went above and beyond with recommendations and support during our stay. We also did a hammam and massage at their spa and it was wonderful. This was our first time visiting Marrakech and our stay at Riad Tarabel made it all the more memorable.

A beautiful riad in an excellent location in the Medina. Very discreet service. Not cheap by local standards but well worth it. The rooms and decor are superb!

Riad Tarabel exceeded our expectations from start to finish. Aziz and the team are superb. They’re friendly, courteous, helpful and always at hand to deal with any requests. We arrived slightly earlier, but were allowed to check in and shown our room. The Riad is located near the El Bacha Palace and down a very unassuming alleyway. The grounds inside are stunning. The rooms are beautifully decorated and feel luxurious. Breakfast at the roof is a treat with cooked eggs to order (a rarity in Morocco). The heated pool offers respite from the daily adventures and there are plenty of hangout areas around the Riad. Riad Tarabel offered us the tranquility and luxury we were after for our baby moon. I would definitely recommend a stay at Tarabel to all travellers. Thank you for your hospitality and we look forward to returning in the future.

Your response to my review is not true. This only confirms that you were fully aware of the incident and are now trying to deny the facts. You suggest that I tried to fraudulently claim compensation for items (jewelry) that were stolen at your property, which is extremely hypocritical. I would also like to inform you that legal action has already been taken. In a private message, I have sent photos taken at your property, where I am clearly wearing the jewelry I would also like to note that when I reported the incident, your manager herself described the jewelry as a “nail,” which shows she was well aware of the pieces I was wearing during stay.
