This review is basically a follow-up to the Rice Bowl which had closed down last year before reopening as the Rice Garden in their current location. I went for a family dinner here with my mother, one of her favorite Chinese restaurants to go to and she is friends with the owner (that doesn't mean getting free food, but I can only wish especially with their Prime Rib dinners). We came in and the owner shouted a friendly greeting to me and my mother who was greeted with a warm hug. We quickly got a booth with no wait and drinks ordered right away after being seated. Everything on the menu is worth trying, something my mother can attest to after eating at the Rice Bowl for many years. They have a lengthy menu full of traditional Chinese dishes, but the selection of steaks and the Prime Rib are what has made this restaurant so popular for a long time. My previous order was the Prime Rib cooked medium rare with bean sprouts and a side of au jus and horseradish for dipping.
The Prime Rib was the best I've had recently, cooked at the right temperature and heavily seasoned on the edges. This time around, I just had to order the Garlic Chicken (boneless chicken cooked with water chestnuts, mushrooms, scallions, and garlic...LOTS of it with clove pieces instead of being minced or diced). If you're a garlic lover, this dish is highly recommended and adds another level of flavor to the chicken and sauteed vegetables. As always, we never had to wait very long for our food to arrive. The menu itself is still the same along with the prices, but it is well worth it for the effort and dedication on every item they prepare. The dining area is smaller than the old location, but we never had any issue finding a place to sit regardless of whether it is lunch or dinner. I am just happy for the owners that they were able to keep going at a new location and serving the same great food like before.
