The 26 Best Boise Restaurants to Try Right Now - Eater

"With more than two decades of experience in Boise, James Beard Award semifinalist chef Richard Langston and his wife and business manager Melinda are veterans of the local dining scene. Located at the Inn at 500 Capitol, their restaurant specializes in Italian-ish Northwestern fare, like house-made fusilli with calamari and pickled peppers, and cannelloni stuffed with sausage and spinach. With a well-regarded wine list, Richard’s holds periodic wine dinners, and because it’s part of the Inn, overnight guests can order room service from the restaurant." - Scott Ki, Scott Wink

Typical hotel restaurant, except they have some pretty impressive dishes. I’ve visited a few times for dinner and I’ve always had good experiences. The all time favorite dish here was the octopus and scallops 😻 such an impressive dish with amazing presentation and flavors!!! The trout is also good. The service is attentive and the martinis are well made.

The meal was good. Portions were fair, but enough food. The clams & halibut dishes were served to perfection. One bummer was the pork dish arrived undercooked, so our guest had to wait for them to cook hers a little longer. When it finally made its way back, the two with the clam dishes were almost finished. (Our friend with the pork dish told everyone to please eat while the food was hot. I waited, but was still satisfied with my halibut.) Wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. Our waitress was pleasant, but spaced on the creature comforts of water refills (especially to our D.D, who went the full meal without a refill. That was a minor inconvenience, though, because water is probably more of a courtesy.) She did help pair my dinner with a terrific red wine from Walla Walla, WA. Overall, we enjoyed our guests' company (they were from out of town) and meals. We were also celebrating my hubby's birthday so Erica brought him a sweet treat to top his meal off.

I had a great experience for my moms birthday. The staff were very friendly and the server was very attentive to our needs but didn’t bug us either. We ordered the whipped feta appetizer and the presentation was great. It tasted very good. I ordered the papardelle pasta and it was really not my favorite. The walnuts did not fit in the dish and the sauce tasted off. I would never order that again. However, the food did come hot and the squash that was in the dish was good. The sauce ruined the whole dish. My mom got the cheese ravioli with the pesto cream sauce and that was so delicious I wish I had gotten that. I will be coming back. Hopefully Richards sees this and changes the sauce on that dish.

My wife and I Stayed at the hotel where Richard’s is located. The next morning we had the most amazing breakfast experience with wonderful food, exceptional service and perfect decor. We live close to Boise yet when we come into town for a date night we spend a night or two in town. All I can say is the hotel and Richard’s is the best in town. Our next date night we will have dinner at Richard’s and I know the experience will be one to remember.

Mannn come ON. I’ve been in the main restaurant and it was awesome. I brought my boyfriend back to show him but ended up going rooftop for drinks and appetizers. The service was really good but the apps were CRIMINAL. $12 for 4 shrimp and $8 for 3 tiny triangles of toast with diced tomatoes. I know the economy is seeing tough times but be so for real. Wouldn’t come back for that experience.

Google
Excellent food and cocktails! Service was fantastic and they were very attentive. High quality, flavorful menu. Pictured is the fig flatbread. It was delicious! Not pictured, I had the king salmon and was so impressed with the horseradish honey sauce on it! The potato’s and beets were cooked perfectly too that came with it! I would definitely be back!

Google
Our Server Matt was very knowledgeable and helpful. The tomato soup and grilled Caesar salad was incredible. My halibut was delicious. I only rate the food 4 star because my boyfriend’s ribeye was less than expected for the price and my father’s scallops were fairly small.

Google
What great meals! We were fortunate to enjoy three meals at Richard’s on our trip to Boise this week. Our first meal was amazing—from the scallops, shrimp & risotto cakes, beet salad and tomato basil soup to the main dishes of prosciutto wrapped chicken and duck confit, as well as the dessert of apple marscapone mousse cake and panna cotta... everything was delicious! We stopped in for brunch on Saturday and had the most delicious brunch bread (filled to the brim with pancetta), stuffed figs, breakfast pasta carbonara and burger. The breakfast carbonara was amazing, so incredibly savory and creamy...We rounded out our visit is a pasta-centric dinner, we had chips and nuts over drinks, refreshed our palates with the pickled veggies, then salads, and shared pasta family style—clam linguine, cannelloni, ravioli with basil pesto, and sweet potato gnocchi. My absolute favorite was the clam linguine, but the sweet potato gnocchi reminded me of all I ever hoped that thanksgiving sweet potato casserole SHOULD be. Our night closed out with the tiramisu cheesecake, profiteroles and walnut chocolate torte. The tiramisu cheesecake and apple marscapone were my absolute favorite desserts, though everyone needs some chocolate cake sometime...

Yelp
This restaurant is lovely....fancy, even. so the ambiance is perfect for a celebration. Not an every day place, due to pricing (the food is worth every penny), but perfect for an Anniversary, or similar occasion. The food here is so delectable, it's hard to believe! They had a Toscana soup special that is probably one of the best soups I've ever had the pleasure of eating. And the seared sea scallop starter was divine (you only get one, but I ordered two). My hubs had a delicious roasted Quail with insanely tasty potatoes with a glorious gravy sauce. We went back 2 days later for brunch, which is also amazing, but if you order the buttermilk pancakes, you better have someone to share them with! Service was superb. We were never left wanting or wondering where someone was. Our server was very attentive, and made sure everything was perfect! I can't imagine ever getting a dissatisfying meal here. Will go back any chance I get!!!!

Yelp
I have been eying this place for a while but knew it was going to be a spendy dinner. I finally made it here for Mother's Day and WOW. A fancy restaurant located inside of a hotel that offered a very intimate setting. We parked in a pay-to-park lot by Jackson's because we were unsure of the parking at Richard's. When we arrived we noticed there is parking for specifically for Richard's and valet. We made a reservation through Open Table and were seated immediately upon arrival. This was my first Mother's Day, so we did have my two month old daughter with us. Since we had her with us, I had to leave the restaurant a few times to calm fussiness and feed her. The staff was very accommodating to this and there were several comfortable spaces to take her out of the restaurant quickly. My husband and I both ordered a glass of wine, the best one being Salcheto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2019. Some of the best wine I've had in a while. As for food we ordered the Thomas Cattle Co. Ribeye and Wagyu Flatiron. Both were delicious, but the Wagyu Flatiron blew our socks off. I have been to several high price steakhouses in Vegas and this was easily the best steak I've ever had. Highly recommended this place to anyone looking for a very tasty dinner with an intimate setting. I am counting down the days to when I can go back.

Yelp
Ordered room service for breakfast and their egg sandwich is MASSIVE. It was really good, the bread was a bit thick but overall it was good, the bacon is a bit overpriced for what it is. I can't speak to the ambiance, but I've heard the restaurant is really nice

Yelp
Best meal during my 4 days in Boise. Fine dining atmosphere, great (low level) mood lighting (but not too dark), and comfortable both for a solo traveler. Excellent waiter/server. Good recommendations and willingly accommodated a special request on my appetizer -- less carbs and more veggies. Good conversationalist as well. And there was a second server that came by to check on me and she was lovely. I had the special appetizer which was Mediterranean oriented with tasty hummus, olives, tomatoes, and fresh veggies. The tomato basil soup was a big winner, with a wonderful consistency, rich tomato flavor, and a bit of an Italian orientation Yum! Halibut was perfectly grilled, a nice size portion, accompanied by fresh vegetables and some spinach and a very light butter-based sauce. Truly impressive dish. Great meal. Great service.

Yelp
So glad I decided to wait and make this my 140th review for the year so far. Solid 5 star experience here last weekend. We came here for our anniversary for the 1st time and will for sure be back. Located in the great hotel down Boise Inn at the 500. This is a small plug for the hotel definitely the nicest hotel in town. Made a reservation for this past Saturday and were sat immediately with a nice note on our table about our anniversary. Inside super nice modern restaurant with lots of seating and at the bar as well. Service was a 5 star for sure and our waitress made our experience pretty awesome. For starters we had the olives and homemade potato chips both were delicious. For dinner I had the lamb chops and my wife had their pork special. Both meals were very good but my only gripe would be the lamb chops were cut so thin that they did not come out medium rare like I wanted but still had great flavors. My wife's pork was a really good dish and she even let me sneak a bite. Overall fantastic experience l! I would for sure go back and I would highly recommend this place to any local or out of town guest for a truly great experience.

Yelp
It's truly disappointing to write this review, as we had been eagerly looking forward to a special dinner here. Our initial server was incredibly sweet and welcoming, but unfortunately, the experience quickly took a negative turn. We ended up not dining here but instead going to Chandler's down the street (which is always a great experience). My partner and I are young--23 and 24--and we're used to being questioned when ordering drinks since we look younger than our age. My partner has an out-of-state non-driver's license (he's legally blind), so we understood when our server initially took his ID to confirm with the manager. However, what followed was beyond reasonable. A woman approached our table without introducing herself, immediately saying, "Okay babes, you look like a child, so I'm going to have to ask you some questions." This condescending approach was offensive, especially since my partner is 24. She proceeded to interrogate him with rapid-fire questions--asking even his eye color--in a manner more intense than even any bouncer we've encountered. After this grilling, she disappeared with his ID again, leaving us feeling unsettled. Not long after, a man with dark hair and an accent came over, also without identifying himself. He demanded another form of ID, which most people, including my partner, don't carry. My partner offered his credit cards, but the man continued to question him, making remarks about his non-driver's license and even criticizing his signature. Given my partner's visual impairment, which this man was aware of, remarks on his handwriting felt unnecessarily harsh. At this point, the entire ordeal had become too much. My partner calmly explained that this experience was far too intense for a simple ID check, especially since we were there for a special occasion we'd saved up for and planned on spending a large amount of money on. The man dismissively replied, "This isn't about how much money you're spending," and abruptly threw my partner's cards back at him. This encounter left me, someone with generalized anxiety disorder, feeling panicked and unable to enjoy the evening. We ultimately decided to leave. Only our original server, who had been kind throughout, apologized as we were walking out, explaining that the staff are extra cautious around the holidays due to "sting" operations. While we understand the need for vigilance, the aggressive questioning, passive-aggressive remarks, and overall lack of respect were entirely uncalled for. After reading other reviews, it seems this harsh treatment is common if you appear to be young--even patrons in their 30s have reported similar experiences. If the restaurant is so afraid of failing sting operations, may I suggest training staff to recognize different forms of legitimate ID? For a venue located in a city like Boise, especially in a hotel where visitors from various states frequent, it's surprising how little familiarity they seem to have with out-of-state IDs. Bottom Line: If you're young or even just appear to be young and plan on ordering drinks here, I would steer clear or come prepared with a passport to avoid the aggressive scrutiny. This was by far one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences we've ever had, and sadly, we won't be returning.

Yelp
Adam, our server was wonderful! The appetizer of fig, prosciutto and gorgonzola flatbread was really good. The tomato basil soup was outstanding! The adult beverages were also quite tasty. Unfortunately, our main entrée of octopus and pork belly was an F. However, our server, Adam, talked to the managers, and that entree was taken off our bill. They also offered to remake the entree or provide another offering. So, I would try this restaurant again given the quality of service. A good sever and manager is worth his/ her weight in gold!

Yelp
As you walk in, your eyes are attracted by the tranquil music and decor. Before mentioning the food I have to give a big shout out to the staff that made the service phenomenal. Starting with the house salad that was joined with savory creamy ranch (no photo), followed by the fried scallop appetizer. The main entrée was the Alaskan halibut combined with broccoli and ravioli. Compliments to the chef as well, in all this jewel of a restaurant is highly recommended.

Yelp
We stayed at 500 Capital Inn. Ordered breakfast. Don't bother. Too much butter oil or whatever.

Yelp
A tale of two meals. We were staying at the hotel so decided to try it out for dinner. It was wonderful, I had the pork over a Leak puree and fingerling potatoes. My wife had a pasta dish made with fresh pasta and vegetables, fabulous. Our waiter Johnny was new but took care of or every need. Why two meals ? Having had such a great meal we stopped in for breakfast the day we checked out. We ordered typical breakfasts. The eggs advertised as local were the smallest eggs i ever saw. The sausage we ordered was the worst we ever had. We asked the server what was in it , sage, garlic and wine. She didn't take it off our bill, though we didn't eat it. So i gave it 5 stars because dinner was so good but go somewhere else for breakfast.

Yelp
Loved that this restaurant had a vegan option on the menu so chose this place for dinner. We had a table of five and everyone's food was incredible! Wonderful service as well and great luxurious atmosphere

Yelp
We decided to make reservations for Thanksgiving, & luckily got on the wait list & secured a res. for 6:30pm. A credit card was required to hold the res. Free covered parking was available off to the side of the restaurant, which was nice & convenient. Arriving it was quiet, but it seemed that the staff was busy. Our server was professional, if a bit stiff. Hostess also was setting tables, but I guess that they don't use tray service to reset as she was holding bread plates against her sweater before placing them on the tables. This didn't appear sanitary to us. Tables were beautifully set & elegant. Unfortunately, the small booths on the raised platform were claustrophobic & not comfortable, so we opted to move to a table w/chairs. The server was quite gracious to accommodate us. We ordered iced teas & we accepted the offer of lemon, but we declined the sugar, however the server still brought the sugar to the table. It took up unnecessary space. The amuse was a surprise, but also seemed to be prepared quite early in the day & had lost it's freshness. The prosciutto wrapped figs w/gorgonzola were oddly greasy & tough. The panko crusted goat cheese was also wet & not a nice texture from the barely covering panko. The mixed salad w/pomegranate pips, orange supremes & feta & the squash soup were both delicious & flavorful. Service appeared to be of a fine dining level, but our table was never de-crumbed, perhaps that is not a standard that they follow. Entrees arrived next. We got the Thanksgiving turkey w/ all the trimmings & the King Salmon. The salmon was crispy & delicious, served w/rice w/ imperceptible saffron & a corn/pepper pudding. The turkey was juicy, but we both remarked at how salty it tasted. Perhaps it was salt-brined to keep it moist, but I needed several refills of iced tea just to finish. The bread stuffing was generous & highly anticipated, but it did come off lackluster, w/o much flavor & an insufficient amount of gravy. The accompanying green beans, w/cream sauce, were still slightly too crunchy & several were grey in color. My disappointed came in the small ramekin of cranberry sauce as it was so minuscule to almost be missed on the plate. It was barely half full & I greatly would have enjoyed more as it was perfectly balanced. After dinner was cleared, we waited & waited for the desserts to arrive, w/ no offer of coffee & not sure why this course the timing was so much longer. I understand that the dessert course is classically served w/ a spoon, but a hard crust pecan tart (pie) is difficult to cut into w/ a spoon & shards of crust did fly across the table, still it was the most delicious item of the evening. The house made whipped cream had an odd texture, but excellent flavor. The chocolate mousse was a disappointment. Much to airy, but dense, almost cake-like, at the same time without the depth of chocolate that was expected. Another odd texture & it was not entirely consumed as the pecan tart was. Never did a manager appear in the dining room & although there wasn't anything outstand to comment on, it would have been nice to receive a holiday greeting from a manager at such a named fine dining restaurant. Yes, the server did check on us several times, but again, nothing so egregious to voice a complaint over & we did tip above 20%. Would we return? Yes, we have heard great things about their regular Italian menu & it will be nice to dine on the upper terrace come spring, but we will approach w/ appropriately lowered expectations. After posting this review, I received a tersely worded reply from Richard, the owner, of which he has since softened his response, but I saved the original reply here; "Glad to see you had the time to post this diatribe on every review site. Perhaps we should not have put you on our wait list - then neither of us would have been disappointed". No apology, no offer. I felt my review was fair, balanced & thorough & only posted on 2 sites, but I will now drop a star, due to his attitude & post additionally on TripAdvisor & more.

Yelp
Food and service were amazing! Our server was funny and professional. We enjoyed the ambiance but the lighting wasn't good for flattering photos haha. I had the raviolis with brown butter sage sauce, with salmon. It was so delicious and rich. The fig flatbread appetizer was very tasty. The tomato soup was also delicious. I'd come back just for the soup and bread. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
This place was average in my opinion. The service was good but slow. The waitstaff we had tried extremists but was waiting the entire restaurant. When you're paying for a high dollar dinner, and having to wait for things it makes the dinning experience less than par. The food wasn't what I would have expected for the cost. I got the homemade pasta, and it was okay, covered in mushrooms lacking sauce. The chicken was dry. I probably will not be dinning here again.

Yelp
Richard's was the first stop on a long weekend visit to Boise. It's a welcoming space, and we were immediately welcomed and shown to our table. Our server was very friendly and helped guide us through the alcohol selections (we opted for a bottle of an Italian white) and food selections. In terms of food, we started with the fig flatbread, which comes with gorgonzola and prosciutto (as well as a bit of honey and basil). This was probably the highlight; it was delicious. Having said that, it's almost like eating a small pizza for an appetizer, so it's a lot for two people to share if those same two people are planning on ordering two main courses as well. (If we did it again, we'd probably get the flatbread with one main and a salad.) In any case, we also ordered two mains: pasta with clams and the fried rabbit. We very much enjoyed the pasta, which is house-made pasta (I think it was linguine, though it could have been the fairly similar fettucine) with clams, chorizo, saffron, cherry tomatoes and more. It was actually surprisingly light. The rabbit was a solid dish but could have used some tweaks. It was a half rabbit, and no doubt anytime you're cooking disparate parts of an animal, there can be challenges about making sure each part is properly cooked. In this case, while the dark meat of what I assume was the leg was perfect, the white breast meat (I assume) was just slightly over, leading to it being a little dry. Further, the polenta wasn't as smooth as it could have been (it was pretty lumpy--in fact, one of the newer staff members thought it was mashed potatoes), and there was an awful lot of it; it ended up absorbing a lot of the white wine mustard sauce. I'd rather they reduce the amount of polenta by about half and instead add half again as many vegetables (squash, in this case). It would have made for a lighter dish, and it would have allowed more of the white wine mustard sauce (which I think was quite good) to find the rabbit. By this point, we were quite full, so there was no room for dessert. Our server (who all in all was very good and extremely nice but occasionally got sidetracked by extended interactions with some of the regular guests) graciously offered us a scoop of the house-made gelato, which made for a lovely light finish. Ultimately, it was a very pleasant meal, with room for a little tweaking here and there. I'd certainly return, though I'd be careful to order just a little less.

Yelp
We've been wanting to try this place for awhile and we're disappointed in our experience. First, I made our reservation midweek and then got the text to confirm the reservation. I confirmed and got the confirmation text back. When we got in there, the host couldn't find our reservation. Then I searched my email and found they had emailed me that they cancelled my reservation earlier. Luckily, the host was able to seat us at an open table. But still annoying that that happened. Second, I got the beef tenderloin special, medium rare. I cut into it and it was well done. One side was medium rare, but you could tell looking at the inside that they had unevenly cooked the steak. Very disappointing considering the price I paid for it. I hate sending meals back, plus we were on a time constraint so didn't have time to wait for another steak to come out. Our dinner took awhile to come out. The sauce on the steak was also weirdly sweet. Just all around not very good. My husband got the octopus and pork belly entree. He said the octopus was good, but the pork belly was dry. The sauce was good. The positives of the restaurant--we got butternut squash soup for a starter and that was quite good. They also have a couple Mocktails, which was a nice surprise considering they're difficult to come by in Idaho. I got a "zero-proof mule" and it was really good. The service was also really good. Our waiter was friendly and consistently checking on us. I liked the ambiance of the restaurant as well. Dark, but they put little lights on everyone's tables so that you can see. Unfortunately I don't see us going back there again unless it was for drinks. Just not worth it when the food was not very good!

Yelp
We have been coming to this classy restaurant (both locations, and cafe vicino) for over 10 years and I would always give high recommendations about this beautiful place to our friends around town; this was our favorite spot. It appears someone has made some of the worse changes to their kitchen menu and these were definitely for the worse. GOOD: - most meals are well prepared. The steak or octopus meals are delicious and tasty. BAD: - Wine restaurant but, NO CHEESE BOARDS! This place WAS a great place to drink wine and enjoy a delicious cheese board. This option has now been fully eliminated from the menu and left without any replacement, pushing the customers to look for subpar options. How can you boast a large wine by the glass menu and wine list and not offer a cheese board option? This makes no sense. - Several options for vegetarians, but 1 option only for vegan. An extremely dairy heavy menu; lactose intolerant consider yourself warned. - Their new menu no longer has great meal options like the lamb or a dedicated vegan entree; this greatly limits customer options. Substitutions and customer requests will not be honored if they kitchen seems itself as, "busy". - The servers desperately try to accomodate new and loyal customers to what once was a great menu, but just come up short as their new options are limited by whoever re-designed the menu. - Ambiance/ Service: good, but chaotic if you dine on the weekends. Make reservations to secure a spot. Attention to: Chef Richard Langston, Kitchen manager Grady Kimsey, Sous chef Nick Fisher, GM Jim Borton and assistant Mattew Varbel.

Yelp
Valet parking was appreciated. Beautiful restaurant with good service. Mother's Day buffet was disappointing. Zero effort was made to keep food fresh and at safe temperatures.

Yelp
Update: We visited for the second time with our friends on Saturday evening. I made reservations a week prior online. We arrived on time and were seated right away to a table that was prepared including having water in glasses. Everyone in our group was happy with their meal. I requested several accommodations (no dairy) and the kitchen had no problem accommodating my requests. Once again, I was very highly impressed how perfectly they cook the vegetables. I ordered the trout again that came with cauliflower. I also ordered a side of spinach (no cream) which was equally excellent. Excellent food!

Yelp
this place is great overall, good food and good drinks. I came for lunch waiting to checkin to the hotel itself. I had the RBLT, tons of bacon and delicious. got it with a side of tomato basil soup, also delicious. the bartender is very friendly, will recommend and come back next time I'm in town.

Yelp
We went for brunch on Easter Sunday. My Boyfriend forgot his wallet at home and was annoyed they wouldn't let him order a drink. He is 36 and the waiter said anyone that looks under 35 he can't serve. I smiled and said aww too bad I'll have the bottomless mimosa please and handed my DL to him. It wasn't the waiters fault. Then we ordered our food. My eggs Benedict were good. Not my favorite I've had but not the worst. The biscuits and gravy were not good. The bread was so hard and even after the gravy had sat on it for a while it was still super hard. The coffee seemed over priced at $3.50. I have read good reviews about this place but my experience didn't feel like anything I would rush to return. With all the amazing brunch places in downtown Boise we will probably not return.

Yelp
One of the top 10 best meals of my life. The restaurant decor and ambiance was sophisticated and gorgeous. The staff were attentive and friendly. Our server, Giovanni, was especially helpful with menu suggestions. It was difficult to choose items from the menu because I literally would have eaten any item on the menu. The food was beautifully presented, cooked perfectly and really delicious. I highly recommend and will be returning.

Yelp
This was the cherry on top of a lovely anniversary date during the time of COVID. We parked in the covered parking which is set aside just for Richards guests. We entered through a separate door in our masks and were escorted to the elevator. Currently all Richards guest are eating on the 2nd floor so they have access to the patio. We wanted patio seating but the only Available spots were in the sun and it was 102 that day. So we opted to eat inside. This was a bit of a bummer. You're clearly in a hotel conference room with some spaced out tables. The ambiance was definitely a zero. Also, they aren't pouring any draft beers since they don't have access to kegs upstairs. Not sure why they couldn't pour it downstairs and bring it up just like everything else but.... oh well. These were clearly COVID contributions so I detract no points for these things. Just worth mentioning that it's not as nice of an experience at the moment. The staff was nicely masked and gloved up. All guest wore masks away from their tables. Food was very yummy. We had the Fig Flatbread which was definitely my favorite thing of the night. The prosciutto was crunchy, the figs were chewy and the Gorgonzola was balanced out with honey glaze. It would make the perfect happy hour treat. I had the braised lamb. The lamb was very tender with a crisp exterior. The yogurt sauce and feta spinach was a perfect, creamy accompaniment to the meat. I loved the crispy chickpeas too. I could enjoy a lot more of those. My partner had the ribeye which I didn't even try because my dish was so delicious. He said it was a little heavy handed with the butter but beautifully cooked. Our server very sweetly brought us black cherry/chocolate gelato for an anniversary treat (for free!). The mix ins were delicious but neither of us liked the gelato. It was very icy and not as creamy as we expected. We can't wait to go back when things are a little more normal.

Yelp
This is truly one of the most under-appreciated and underrated restaurants in the entire Treasure Valley. My husband and I came here tonight for our last date night before our move to Texas. During our 3 years in Idaho, Richards became our favorite for the ribeye and the cannelloni. Truly the best rib eye in the valley, hands down, full stop. We love Chandlers for other reasons, but Richard's has its rib eye game down. Always beautifully grilled and perfectly seasoned. The quality of the meat speaks for itself. The staff has always been kind and attentive without being officious. The cannelloni, made with homemade sheet pasta is a revelation and worth the trip on its own. We had the tiramisu cheesecake for dessert and it was divine (pictured below.) It's surprising to us that this place isn't more busy, but hopefully others will notice and flock to this slightly hidden gem. Thanks Richard's for helping us celebrate our adieu to Idaho.

Yelp
The best food and service we have ever received at a restaurant in Boise. My fiancé and I made reservations for our anniversary and we were sat at our table right away when we arrived. Our waiters name was Matthew and he was delightful and very helpful navigating the menu. I don't remember the name of the entree since my fiancé had ordered everything for me. We did however order a charcuterie board and risotto with shrimp. Everything was amazing and we practically cleaned our plates. We also ordered desert and the occasion special was freshly made strawberry vanilla gelato. Best gelato I've ever had, now I'm hooked! We will definitely be coming back for more, thank you for making us feel special on our anniversary!

Yelp
Best brunch ever! We were shocked by how delicious this was! I ordered the SHAKSHUKA and wow! Also my bottomless mimosa was filled over and over right on time! Our server, Danielle, was also great! She was fun to talk to!

Yelp
Lamb was great. Drinks were good. Appetizers and steak were sent back due to not being cooked. Not worth it. Staff was fine.

Yelp
We were so excited to go to this rooftop bar (or 2nd story ..). The food sucked! Raw steak skewers and we specifically asked for well-done or at least medium well. Very limited menu which I get but sooo boring!! Offer a kampachi appetizer, do a chilaquiles with pork, how about charcuterie (the most basic satisfiying appie), puff pastry deep-fried olives, edamame, proscuitto-wrapped cantaloupe ...you can imagine the possibilities if you think outside the box! C'mon, Richard!

Yelp
The food was good. It wasn't worth the price, but not bad. I had the Cannelloni. Our waiter, Geovanny, was........adequate. He was professional and courteous, but it seemed like he wanted to be anywhere else. The Tiramisu cheesecake was very well presented, but again, it was not worth the price. I will probably go back to try another meal, only because the flavor was good and I want to try another meal.

Yelp
Service and atmosphere were great! Food was good but not anything standout. At this price point, I expected more flavorful dishes.

Yelp
We assumed that since the name Richard's has been around Boise for a long time and that it was now located in a high end hotel, the food and service would be great. Our small company held our Christmas dinner here, and it was disappointing on all fronts. We probably should have know with how inflexible they were with scheduling, but we had waited too long and didn't have a choice if we wanted a private room. They demanded a fixed menu, even when we offered to pay more. The room was decent, but in truth, nothing was even close to amazing. The service was ok, but nothing like similar venues we've been to. It was very slow. It looks over 30 minutes to get our first drinks. The food was just ok. Not worth keeping left over's. To add insult to injury, the cost was ridiculous especially compared to the quality. When we got there, we quickly saw that we could have easily sat in the dining room without a problem. The place was not full at all. They gouged us for the prices on everything, and the quality was not even close meeting expectations. Even great service probably could have made the evening worth it, but it felt like we were just a nuisance to them. Needless to say, we won't be back and could not recommend this place to anyone else.

Yelp
This review is based solely on their Thanksgiving dinner 2023. My husband and I live in California but have been making it a tradition to eat at Richard's for their Thanksgiving dinner for the last four years. It has always been great and has been keeping us coming back. However, this year I'm sorry to say was a disappointment and has us probably going elsewhere next year. Service was not good; our waiter barely checked on us. We had to ask for bread which literally tasted like bread from the Dollar Store. The appetizer option was a pickle plate (yes, pickle plate) with not much on it at all. The dinner came with a soup or salad option. I got the soup which tasted like tomato soup out of a can and my husband was not too keen on his salad. The main course was not much better- I had the turkey plate which came with NO mashed potatoes (I mean this is Idaho for heaven sake's). The plate was not too warm (like it had been sitting out), the turkey was cooked/seasoned well but the sides were just meh. My husband got the beef plate and was not impressed either. On the other hand, their bar always stands up and the mixed drinks were great and dessert was good too and also the restaurant ambiance is nice (warm and cozy). Just disappointed that this experience went such downhill this year.

Yelp
Have Richards a second chance after a not great meal a year ago. So happy we did. The service was excellent, the center cut pork was delicious. A beautiful restaurant in the heart of downtown Boise. The parking structure is adjacent to the restaurant which was an added plus.

Yelp
My flight got cancelled due to a snowstorm and I ended up staying at the Inn at 500 for a night. Wanted a quick dinner so I ordered a few small plates at the bar. I had the beet salad, shrimp with risotto cakes and a scallop which all had good flavor. The food came out quickly and bartender was friendly. The next morning, I ordered an omelette to go before my flight. The house made chicken sausage was delicious!

Yelp
Took my mom here for Mother's Day we shared the tomato soup and homemade coffee cake we really enjoyed them. Mom got the fish and I got the steak sandwich. Again really good. Going to have come back for dinner.

Yelp
I really don't know where to start. The food is so bad. We had a gift card so we used it for two meals. This place is overpriced and I can't figure out how they think they can charge $20 plus for a tasteless plate of pasta. We got the whipped feta for $13, help me say it was disgusting. The flatbread that came with it was rock hard. Don't waste your money. The place does look super fancy but you're better off eating somewhere else. Save your money. By the way, before Richard decides to be rude and leave a review comment to my review let me just say this. I was born and raised in Italy. I lived in Italy for over 30 years so I know exactly what Italian food tastes like. So before Richard decides to tell me I should have left a 5 star review let me say, Richard, before pretending to own an authentic Italian restaurant, please eat some real Italian food. Also, in Italy they would never ever charge $20 for a disgusting dry tiny plate of pasta. If you want to eat pretty ok Italian food go to A'tavola. 100 times better

Yelp
Heaven. Oh the halibut the wine the servers!! Normally, we would not eat at a hotel restaurant but this was so gooooood we went back to breakfast. Did not disappoint the second time. Thanks for sharing our plates (they split meals for us) and had great coffee !!!

Yelp
We stayed at the inn at 500 on Capital and ordered room service from Richard's. Breakfast was significantly worse than we expected. I strongly recommend you stay clear.

Yelp
We had dinner here while staying at the Capitol 500 hotel and it didn't disappoint. The food was excellent! The scallop appetizer was delish and very unique - sitting on top of really nicely flavored sweet potato mash and covered by an amazing green sauce. The salad with creamy olive dressing was really tasty, too. The sauce that came with my halibut was amazing and hubby loved his ravioli and dessert. Service was excellent. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Richards was a good experience. The food is expensive, however, delicious. Our server did not impress us. She did not know the menu, had to keep asking questions and seemed distracted. This normally wouldn't bother me but when you are at this nice of a restaurant you expect a little higher level of service. We enjoyed our food, glad we tried the restaurant, but we probably wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Bartenders are exceptional. Very nice and accommodating. Loved the chips and other appetizers. Unfortunately, when we returned for breakfast it was a complete different story. Greeted by a nice hostess who was promptly overruled by an aggressive rude server on our seating choice. We had 7 guests. We were seated in the back of the restaurant near the kitchen with no view of a window. We were told by rude server that the "window" tables were "reserved". We ordered, ate and waited until 10:00am for a Bloody Mary total of about 75 minutes. When we left, the "reserved" window seats were still empty. When we checked out of the hotel a half hour later the tables were still empty. This female server needs to find another profession or learn to profile better. We left a double tip as our server, a gentleman did his best to make up for her rudeness. Won't be back.

Yelp
Richard's is a top-notch Italian restaurant in Boise. For several years it was in a different location, and now it is attached to the new Inn at 500 hotel. We tried some of their signature entrees, including cannelloni and chicken with forty cloves of garlic. The cannelloni was some of the best I have ever ordered in a restaurant. The garlicky chicken was moist and extremely flavorful! The service was great; our server Shana did an amazing job! The ambiance and atmosphere was classy and upbeat with a full house during dinner time. I plan to definitely go back to Richard's any time I return to the Boise area.

Yelp
I visited Richard's tonight as a part of a group, so didn't have the normal experience I'm sure. That being said, the service was great, the food was delicious, and the price was perfect (someone else picked up the tab!!). The appetizers: house made potato chips and the olive tray. Though not full of flair, they did the trick. The salad: I chose the Caesar Salad. A bit more impressed with this course. It came complete with Anchovies. The main course: Ribeye, and potatoes with a blue cheese sauce. I'm not a huge ribeye fan, but was pleased with the flavor. Very tender. Dessert: A decadent chocolate truffle cake. It's pretty hard to go wrong here, and they didn't. Overall a very enjoyable experience. The back room is private and quiet...great for groups.

Yelp
Nice restaurant and great service. Everything was mostly great except for our mains, we had the octopus and pork belly served with a chorizo tomato bean cassoulet- Great flavor, the octopus was cooked perfectly and the sear of the pork belly was ! Unfortunately the beans were not consistent, some were soft but most were quite crunchy. We also had the rigatoni and prawns with oyster mushroom sambuca cream sauce- the sauce had a lot of mushrooms which was awesome and nice plump prawns however the pasta was very underdone even if trying to go for Al dente. The gelato had a bit of an icy texture but the tiramisu cheesecake was delicious! Fun flavors but not quite worth the price.

Yelp
The beet gnocchi was not something I thought I would like but it was fantastic! Cocktails are good here as well. Well done Richards

Yelp
Always a wonderful date night, either for dinner or dessert. We often go for the tiramisu cheesecake and just sit at the bar. The waitstaff is always polite, and attentive. I have been there during busy times and when it was empty due to COVID and always got the same service.

Yelp
I have been hearing good things about the new location, so we did a date night and gave Richard's a try. This place masquerades as a 5 star establishment, but unfortunately it fell short for me. Don't get me wrong the food and menu are solid, they just seemed tired and uninventive if I'm being honest. Both my eating companion and I had the same thought, we both ordered the recommended dishes on the menu and neither one of us were wowed. I will say, I have only eaten here once, so it may have been better with other menu choices. The gouda fig appitizer was really good though, so I might consider appetizers and happy hour here sometime.
