Best LGBTQ and Gay Bars in Houston, Texas | Eater Houston

"Rich’s Houston has seen several dramatic changes over the years. It originally opened in the ‘80s as Rich’s Houston, but has since moved locations, undergone some major renovations, and then changed its name to ReBar. Now, the restaurant and bar is back as Rich’s, with a stacked food menu, Sunday drag brunch, and a dog-friendly patio. Executive chef Diego Chiarello created the menu, which includes cheesy, fried, and internationally-inspired takes on bar food, including birria grilled cheeses, Moroccan meatballs, and elote fritters. If drag brunch isn’t your thing, Rich’s hosts other events, like burlesque shows and an upcoming Pride afterparty." - Lane Gillespie

We visited Rich’s Houston for the Paul Oakenfold show. The club itself is on the smaller side, with a central dance floor and bars set up along the perimeter. The sound system held up well for a DJ of this level – the bass was clean, the mix was balanced, and the energy stayed high throughout the night. That said, the visuals could use an upgrade. The screens felt too small for the space, and the lighting setup didn’t fully match the caliber of the event. Still, it didn’t take away too much from the overall experience. Pro tip: there’s a tucked-away lounge area behind the stage with couches and a quieter bar. Perfect if you need a break or want a more low-key vibe mid-set. In short, not a massive venue, but a fun and intimate spot to catch a legend like Oakenfold. Would go again.

Google
Is a great club the audio system is seriously well tuned and all personnel nice and polite. Two things to be improved for sure are bartending (too slow and need to fast up, very annoying) and too much light (need to lower those lights to give more intimate experience). Great potential, need some fine tuning and some good trance techno nights to expand the audience. Super downside is to parking around is $20 whereas other similar clubs charge $10. Keep it up guys you are in good track!

Google
Went for Paul Oakenfold and the experience was great. Drinks were not overpriced the sound was well tuned but I will agree with the other reviewers that they need to upgrade their visuals and I feel like the smoke machine failed during the middle of the set. However, I have to say this is one of the best audio I've experienced in a venue of this size. The restrooms are clean and looks like have been recently upgraded and the outside lounge area is a great addition.

Travis was amazing come here any chance you get! There was a bartender who charged us extra even though we only preferred one shot he fixed the problem immediately and took care of us the whole night ! This place was an amazing experience!

Yelp
RICHS - 2401 San Jacinto is officially open and fully renovated! Hands down, the best dance club in the city. From the upgraded lighting and sound to the completely reimagined layout--everything has been elevated. Whether you're a house head, techno fan, or just out for a good time, RICHS delivers the ultimate nightlife experience. Don't miss it.

Yelp
The staff at Rich's Houston is amazing!! They were so efficient and they make you feel like you're a part of the family

Yelp
Fire the tatted bartender immediately. Tonight at Daft Disco I tried to get a drink but the one bartender guy kept going to people to the left and the right of me and asking what they wanted even though they went up to the bar way after me. He was gonna skip me again until someone to the right of me said that I was actually next. I'll get my vodka cranberry at Barb's across the street instead.

Yelp
If there was any way to not give any stars at all to this place, I would. This is the place where women's rights (which some of us have been fighting for so long!) go to die. They die when we choose to disrespect ourselves and our bodies in such a vulgar manner! I wish I was exaggerating but what I saw at this place was seriously degrading to my very being. It's really sad actually. If we don't respect ourselves, no one else will. This is becoming a rant, so I'll try to focus on the place. I actually took some pictures while I was there but decided not to post because I'm pretty sure they would (and rightly should) get flagged down or reported for content. It is truly a shame this goes on because the place itself is really cool and the music was really awesome too. It's just people's behaviors that was horrendous. If you have certain urges, don't deal with them in public...it's gross...

Yelp
Been coming to Richs since 2007 so glad they brought it back. Came the other night to see Hernan and had a banging time with my friends. I drank too much as always and got to groove. If you want to come hear some tunes and meet new folks come to Richs! Don't even think about Limelight ew.

Yelp
Had fun here. I was pretty intoxicated when I arrived for my first visit but still am able to remember dancing to the music and chatting outside. It was a Friday night and it wasn't overly crowded. The outside patio was large with room for groups to hang out and mingle. The dance floor had dancers scattered around and it was pretty large. Good music selection was played too.

Yelp
Very fun atmosphere. Great House DJ 's booked here. Disco but not over the top. Friendly efficient bartenders. Many places to wander and hang out. Outside area has its own DJ comfortable pretty furniture. A late late night experience loved loved loved the club

Yelp
Is this place still open? I used to come here on STRAIGHT NIGHT THURSDAYS! *sigh* Memories ---- I love this place!!!!! Always had a blast here! I took my 13 y/o sister here ---her very first time at a club! = P

Yelp
First time here. Came with some friends on a spur of the moment "we are drunk and need to dance" moment. Luckily it was before they started charging cover! The interiors are luxe. White curtains. Blue and violet up-uplighting. Massive dancefloor with beefy go-go boys. I Friendly bartenders. Strong drinks for not too much. Top 40 dance remixes to make your inner diva shine. The outside bar seemed to be where everyone congregated. Prob cause it was one of those perfect Houston nights in the 60s with no humidity. Parking as always in Midtown is a bitch. It'll cost you for the garage across the club. If you plan on drinking just get yourself an Uber or Lyft - you'll be happier.

Yelp
This is Houston's megaclub for gays (Thursdays are for the heterosexuals) and probably one of Houston's first gay club. Two stories, New York style warehouse club. Music is good and loud, plenty of bars (I can think of 5 bars within). There's the red room and the blue room, both of which are lounges. In the blue room the guy there makes a great special cosmopolitan. There's a patio also, and on Sundays people can use the pool (even before the club opens). It's very personal and very Houston. Fridays are 18 and up. Saturdays 21 and up. The naturally less popular Sundays the pool party. Parking available nearby by the streets. Just come early. The area is a little shady though.

Yelp
It's Thursday night. I'm in downtown for a workshop and am done around 10. I've had coffee against better judgment - my heart's jumping like Thumper on a trampoline. So I decide that I need to dance. Actually, I've been wanting to dance for days and bouncing around my room to Pandora isn't cutting it anymore so time to hit a club. Yes, by myself. Put on makeup, and decide on Meteor as my first stop. Parked. Stepped in, got the wristband, looked around, stepped out, drove away, 10:30pm. The venue is decent but the floor is more a stage than a floor. Heard about Rich's on the radio and headed back that way. Found parking across the street near Status and decided to check it out on the way, why not - stepped in, got the wristband, looked around, stepped out, walked away, 10:55pm. Run down and feels like a barn (right, barn, not bar), although selling 30 cent drinks. So for 3 drinks, do you pay $4 including tip? Alcohol that cheap can't be good for anybody. Walked across the street and slid into Rich's 3 mins past 11 (ladies free till 11 all wknd, or is it ladies free all night on Thursdays? Anyway, Thurs is College Night - I did see a couple of men in their 40s but they didn't appear to be predatory DOMs - dirty old men) after being greeted by the friendly bouncer David. Lean, sharp, bright, and best of all, none of that bouncer-on-power-trip-bs. Walked in to find no one dancing. Climbed up the stairs. Nice dance floor and 3 floors of couches and tables with third floor seats providing enough privacy if desired. DJ Riddler was spinning for fm95.7 - good stuff. Some of the boys started lighting their footwork. I got my dancing in. Or out, I should say. On? Then Carmen Contreras announced the money giveaway, and dollar bills soon rained from the hanging disco ball. What a sight to see frozen bodies (read: people not dancing) come alive to grab at money. Not that I was above it but I did laugh for a good while, yes, at myself included. Oh, a decently dressed crowd for the most part, esp girls. Not sure whether the DJ did this on purpose - because I was the only girl dancing - but I appreciated it nonetheless: the third song after I got on the floor was a Gangnam Style remix, haha. Represent. An hour of workout before turning in - a fun, fun night! Will be back :) Oh, nota bene: Street parking. Beware scary, angry, accosting vagrants. I parked my car and couldn't get out so had to move my car and re-park.

Yelp
Before Rich's shut down sometime in the late 2000's (or early 2010's) it used to be a Houston staple. But since all the "counter culture" bars have moved closer to Montrose this place seemed to have been forgotten. During the not so sublime time period of it being "Lime Light" there were shootings and stabbings constantly reported and unreported. Thankfully now Rich's is back! It's a fun place but why charge a cover. You are better than that. You are not BLUR. Any place that charges a cover automatically gets a deduction in my books. When you go to order drinks, the bartenders are actually attentive but that's only at the main bar downstairs. If you have not been here before, you can get lost inside Rich's if you don't know where you are going as the stairs that take you upstairs are not very visible. It's like finding Narnia and you have to know which closet to open. Or think of it as more of the train station from Harry Potter, Platform 9 3/4. Eventually when you make it upstairs, the music is the same until you go inside one of their rooms/secret bars (idk) and it was blaring music akin to mega ciento uno and 104.9. After a failed attempt of banging out with the "latest Latin hits" (think Wisin y Yandel, ca. 2006), I was fortunate enough to leave this part and go back where the music was pumping. Once you make it back downstairs you can easily find your way to the patio which is actually not hard to find. It is hot outside and the only reason why you would go out here rather than enjoying yourself in the air conditioned inside with good music and ok vibes is because you either a) smoke or b) are hoping to score some candy. If you are smoker - shame on you! JK! Not judging smokers, I used to LOVE smoking Dunhill Lights but OMG DO NOT BLOW YOUR SMOKE AT OTHERS! And if you are looking for Scooby Snacks then I think you missed the sinking shop called Lime Light. That is definitely a positive change from the last time when I was here. But the bartenders outside seemed to be overwhelmed and unconcerned about what was going on at the bar. This is where you go and talk to people if you want to get away from the loud music which is finally catered to just dancing. This was a fun experience overall, but for the environment and the crowd, and the time that we had to wait outside to enter I just did not find the drinks to be fairly priced. But if you want a good night with an even better music (4.5 stars) but an A-OK (3 yelp stars) people watching experience then you should definitely come to Rich's.

Yelp
Love the music, djs, dancers and bartenders. Although I STILL have yet to find a gay bar where I can escape straight man attention. I have gotten into some epic dance battles, though.

Yelp
I tend to put bad experiences out of my memory as soon as possible so as not to let them further ruin my peace of mind, then realized how biased my collection of reviews have become and how I am possibly missing the chance from saving other souls from similar crappy experiences. Riches has gone beyond the terrible snobbery becoming more prevalent at clubs to downright outrageousness. I've been here a few times before a couple of years ago and have been able to withstand the wait in line to enjoy the spacious club and it's great music. When a group of about 9 people at a closing karaoke bar suggested Riches as an after hour option I thought why not? Mistake! There was a considerable line around 2am on a Saturday night. Seeing as part of our split group was already inside we decided to chance our luck and approach the bouncer. During the "negotiations" the bouncer demanded $100 dollars to allow entry for 4 guys. Talk about absurd. Well, us girls got in no problem but then had to wait in line to pay the $10 per person cover charge. Next to us was a separate line of people who had no cover if they are with a party, however that line guy was just letting in his friends and any girls who wore revealing enough clothes. Some things never change. After paying my cover charge I went to the ATM to withdraw cash to see if we can come out and get the guys in. At the door we spoke to another bouncer who accepted our $60 to let in the 3 guys who were still around. After taking our money he spoke to yet another bouncer who was by the red rope to let them in, when the original bouncer turned around and made a "kill motion" across his neck. Our money was returned to us and entry was denied. By this point we were pretty fed up with the whole fiasco. After talking to the guys we found out that they did come up with the original $100 but the bouncer then stated that for $100 he will only allow 3 guys to come in, leaving the other 1-2 guys high and dry. Remember that there is still an additional formal cover charge inside per person on top of what the bouncer is demanding. Seriously Riches? When did greediness become an outright acceptable business practice? Now I'm not sure if the difficulties had anything to do with our group being all Asian (with the exception of 1 guy) but I do have a nagging suspicion that was the case. Otherwise why raise the ante when the original demands were already met? It becomes kind of apparent that we were not welcomed or not wanted at this place. Sadly my girlfriend and I had already paid $20 bucks total for the privileged of standing for 15 min. in line inside so they can rip us off. We called it a night and everyone went their own ways. I tried not to let the ending spoil the priorly splendid evening but weeks later the whole escapade still makes me a bit queasy with an equal measure of anger and shock. Over a $100 dollars just to get in, then cover charges, then drink charges? As an eloquent friend of mine is fond of saying "For that much money they better suck my d**k, change the sheets, wash, fold, then put away the laundry too, shiiiiii.....".

Yelp
This place is terrible, especially for a single guy. Do not come here trying to pick up chicks, because although there is some eye candy here, they are all in groups, with guys, or unapproachable altogether. Our first experience here was with the bouncer. He wouldn't let my friend in because he was wearing polo boots and straight out asked for a $20 bribe. Not wanting to ditch us, my friend paid and then on top of that paid a $10 cover charge. Even 21+ paid the cover. Then inside, all the girls were snobby and wouldn't dance with anyone except the people they came with. What kind of club is like that!? Finally, the crowd was very thin and there were barely any people there for a Friday night. I think maybe 10 people were dancing, tops. Avoid this place unless you like ghetto places that are not fun, a rip-off, and lame.

Yelp
If you are 21 or older DO NOT go there. I repeat if you are 21 or older DO NOT go there!! I was there yesterday with my friends, bunch of 18years old(that all look 16) were jumping around. I felt like a very old lady there to babysit them. And I am only 23 that is the messed up thing!. I think the club looks decent, music was decent. They have 3 rooms and the 2 rooms upstairs were freaky small. I give it one star because we did not wait in line and got right in and I kind of like the setting..and because there is no ways to give less than a star. F.y.i if you want to wonder all night if the girls you are dancing with have a dangling thing between their legs then go there...Ya....Lot of transexuals.

Yelp
Is this what dance clubs are like in general? Why would anyone go? Soooo many things wrong with this shithole. 1. Charged $20 for advance tickets in online, then let people in for free at the door. 2. Completely overpriced drinks - $8 for a vodka tonic? Am I in Chicago again and I missed the memo somehow? I got the same thing for $3.50 at a bar a couple blocks away. 3. Douchey bros making up half the line for the women's restroom who cussed me out when I told them to go to their own. No safe space for women in this club! 4. Female bartenders upstairs were all clueless about how to make anything or how much the drinks cost. They were obviously all hired recently for their uniform looks rather than any actual bartending ability. 5. Really terrible house techno being played so loudly my friends had to put in ear plugs. The only positive the whole night was standing on the second floor railing looking down at the drunks grinding together. I particularly liked the 5 guys we spotted all wearing the exact same plaid shirt - three of them were even standing together! Also, the security guys were really proactive in checking people with drinks for 21+ wristbands, which is awesome, and they were polite when they asked me to show mine.

Yelp
I don't know what to say about this place. First off if you try to come during peak hours (around 12 am and again at about 2 am) the bouncers can be total dicks more so than red door. One time the bouncer let me room mate cut line and he asked if I could get in. The bouncer's response was "yeah you can get in but I got to tax his Asian ass". The only reason this place doesn't get 1 star is it is open late and if you want a place to go and sober up then come here. Open to 4 gives you one last chance to take someone home for the night.

Yelp
Came here to watch Kaskade last Fri night...*squee*...I've always tried to avoid this place in the past coupe of years because I knew it was an 18+ place, but had to come for Kaskade. I'm glad I made the sacrifice. Like everyone said, huge dance floor, great elevated DJ stage, upper level room, patio, blah blah blah. What I really love about this place is the music, because I'm a fan of house/dance. And surprisingly, the crowd that was there was actually decent, no pretentiousness, just out to dance and have a great time. Best of all, Holly S. and I had an UBER-bartender! She always got our drinks out speedy, even when handling a huge crowd. And her drinks were potent. I couldn't recall her name by the end of the night, but Holly S. left her a pretty hefty tip because we hadn't been served like that in a looong time and that woman deserved it! After 3am or so, all the other industry folks were starting to pour in. That was our cue to leave and hit the sack. I'd come back here, but only for guest DJ concerts.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
I love nightclubs like this, the entire atmosphere is so welcoming and so otherworldly. I love how mysterious and care free the entire place is. I wish most clubs were like this and the price to get in is quite reasonable. This place deserves more than five stars! I am definitely coming back and definitely for the best time to enjoy life.
google avatar

Karen G.

Yelp
You will NEVER, EVER - and I mean NEVER, EVER catch me here for after-hours or on any night unless there is a concert there. But for a concert venue, I LOVE this place. It's just the perfect size and perfect layout for dj's to come and play and for us fans to dance. Close enough to the DJ to feel a part of the show too. I've seen countless shows here, including Steve Aoki, Dillon Francis, Morgan Page and the Glitch Mob. With the electronic dance music ("EDM") scene still trying to pick up in Houston, the moderately-smaller venue means the shows "fill up" quickly. Nothing makes a concert experience go sour like dancing alone... I've never dealt with a douchey bouncer or bitchy bartenders. Sometimes to draw people into the club before shows they'll throw some $1-before-midnight specials. Drinks are reasonable. They just have the bar set up that you need to close your bar tab with the same person you opened it with. Not sure why... Now as many reviewers have pointed out the lack in ideal bar crowd, I can't comment on that as the shows I go to draws people who share the same taste in music as me (for EDM shows, expect the hipsters and the ravers). I could do without the dancers in the cages, but whatever helps them support their way through college... I love the pointy badass giant disco ball although the thought of it one day crashing down while I'm dancing has crossed my mind a few times. Bathrooms are limited. There's always a line and there's always a stall that's not working. It's annoying because I'd rather be dancing than waiting to pee. The club in general is just dirty. But as long as you're not licking door knobs or picking up food from the floor then you should be fine. Heh. To all you ladies, BE CAREFUL. That part of Midtown is shady. The clubs and bars around there have thuggish-ho-ish people going to them. Homeless guys will approach you. If your show goes beyond 2am, cabs are limited. Lock your car doors, be aware of your surroundings. Anyway, I hope Rich's continues to keep bringing amazing EDM acts to their place! RAGE ON PEOPLE!

Yelp
THIS IS THE BEST NIGHT I'VE EVER HAD!! Brenda Rich and Roberto are so wonderful and welcoming!! Thee atmosphere is great, the dancers have the best butts I've ever seen, everything was amazing. A definite stop while in Houston!! Bring cash for the dancers and the great drinks!

Yelp
If you are looking for a club to show off your fancy car, or that you are a high roller, then just turn around and head for one of those midtown bars. THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. Rich's is simply, the ultimate dance club. It was a gay club for years that had straight night on Thursdays, which most of us remember as being able to get in underage. Well Rich's was bought by new ownership and is no longer a gay club. But for the most part Thursdays is still the "younger night". Friday's is the Big Guest DJ night, (Bad Boy Bill and Kaskade just played there) and Saturday's is the all out party night. Like I said, this is a mega dance club. Best Sound and light system in Houston. They play hiphop in the blue room upstairs. The bathrooms are unisex which can be annoying at times. On Fridays and Saturdays they stay open til 6am. Most everyone has fun who comes here. Patio outside for smokers as well. As for the door there... yeah it seems like they can be dicks sometimes. But Rich's gets a whole lot of people trying to come in there and some of them are not the best crowd. They have to keep some people out. Oh and even though its not a gay club anymore... there are still a couple drag queens who come there. I guess they just don't want to let rich's go.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
Rich's [once you get in] is an ok place to go. I enjoy dance music. The problem would be: getting in. EVERY TIME I've been to Rich's-- it's been an issue. It's not party size. I've been there with another person, just us two and we had to wait an hour to get in while they let in larger parties of not-so attractive people in. I don't know how you can stimulate the economy that way. It's not because it was a bunch of dudes: it was either another girl and myself or three girls and one guy. Sometimes at Drake it's an issue to get in if you have guys in your party. That was also not the case. They're a great place to go because they always have out-of-city DJs coming in to spin at the venue, it's multi level and there's a deck. Also, the reviews about all the beautiful women: every night I've gone they were letting in tons of women that did not fit that description. They also let a lot of crass folks in. We had beautiful girls behind us one night, they had a party of maybe 6 total. They were kindly asking the bouncers when they would get in, while letting in larger not-as-attractive parties in. I'm sure it's because we were all Asian, both of our parties, but I would like to give the benefit of the doubt and just assume the bouncers are jerks and not racist jerks.

Yelp
I really wish someone would have told me this was a gay club the first i went ,lol. I decided to hit it up a sat night when i saw this huge line of people outside. The walking penis suit gave it away when we walked in. I went back this past Halloween and had a great time, plus they close at 4 or 5 am. I heard you could score some booze after hours. The club mostly plays dance/hiphop and is pretty spacious with something going on somewhere in some corner.

Yelp
After a full night at another place, a couple of my friends wanted to go dancing. They said that Rich's is a great place, so we decided to leave Roc Bar and head over here. Granted that by the time we got here it was about 1:15-1:30. The bad thing was that we had to pay $15 to get in (which sucked), but my friends were willing to pay so I said why not. The bar was still open until 2. But once 2 o'clock struck, the bouncers were walking around grabbing all the alcohol. I thought this place was pretty cool. There is are 2 dance floors. The main dance floor plays dance/trance music and there is another room upstairs that play hip-hop. The smoking area was very well lit. Around that time, I wasn't expecting much people, but to my surprise, there were quite a few people. However, the crowd seem kind of on the younger side, which made me feel old (even though I'm only 24). All in all, it was a good time. We got in just in time for a couple of drinks before last call and the music was good. The bad thing was the full price admission. P.S. I forgot to mention that this is an after-hours place, meaning it is open until the wee hours of the morning, but 2 is last call for alcohol!

Yelp
This is the latest addition to the gay club community. This club is lively, new, and huge. It merges a dance club, a video bar, and a lounge. The bartenders are amazing and super friendly. All of them are fast, sweet, and trustworthy. The dancers are very attractive and lots of eye candy. I would recommend this gay club to locales and travelers.

Yelp
Rich's used to be my clubbing spot 2years ago. I went there last night with the girls since it was free to get in . I really wonder if the crowd is in middle school or high school ????? They all look extremely young !! I remember it used to have more older crowd with more attractive people. I guess The 18&up clubs are not for me anymore . Music was okay . I don't really have much to say but rich's is going downhill ! I think I will just stick in Washington ave from now on.
google avatar

Shana M.

Yelp
I think I got to Rich's too early to really appreciate it or maybe I went on the wrong night. When my group got there, the club was dark and practically empty. There was no one on the dance floor and only a few people at the bar. My friends had some drinks and danced for a while but when no one else showed up we finally left. Like I said, maybe we were there too early but it was dead so we went to find something with a little more action. I still want to go back to Rich's and try it out when they're really packed during one of their special events. But, for my first visit there, it was really a big disappointment.

Yelp
This place is amazing, the staff is wonderful. Roberto Carrasco is one of the promoters and he was so helpful and friendly he elevated our experience with terrific service. I would highly recommend visiting this establishment. -Landon Treviño

Yelp
Lines if you're a guy (but you'll still get in, no reason not to)... but walk up to the front if you're a girl (groups or solo). If you like dancing and/or meeting people, this is a good place to go. It's not all glamourous or anything but the lights are nice, there's enough room to dance or stand around and the music is great.. no slow jams or anything at this place. Check the website for when you can get in free. (I went on a Thursday night, and it was $10 for girls after 11). Yes it's 18+ but you'll find a few 21+ who either just wanted to go and dance or could only go there because of their under 21 friends. I can't comment on the drinks or anything, but it's 2-3 floors (I can't remember) and there's always a place to just sit and watch people. There's a little stage you can dance on with friends, as well as two "box" go-go dancer things in the middle of the dance floor to dance on as well. There's also 2 "cages" for the dancers who work there who really can't actually dance at all. They sway around but the people who paid to get into the club were more entertaining than they were. This is probably why the two boxes are in the middle of the dance floor, lol. Parking wise, DEFINITELY DON'T pay the $10. There's plenty of parking on the streets. If you're a girl, please don't walk alone unless you're comfortable and can kick butt since there's plenty of bums asking for money, or shady people outside. But if you do, just look out for your surroundings otherwise you should be fine with a group of girls or a mixed group to feel safe.

Yelp
I used to be one of Rich's most frequent visitors back in my 18-20 year old days! That was back when it was still a gay bar (on certain nights) and played awesome music to dance to! My girls and I would dance it up at Rich's every Thursday night! I wouldn't go back to Rich's now though, ever. I'm too old for any 18 and up club, haha. Have their restrooms improved at all? They were the pits when I used to go. So gross. Anyways...thanks Rich's, for the memories. :)

Yelp
I went here for my first time Friday night when Laidback Luke was in town. He was awesome! I don't really listen to a lot of DJing-type music, but hearing someone who is really good makes you change. His confidence, adaptability, and connection to the crowd are traits all DJs should aspire to achieving. We parked a few blocks away, where there's free street parking. My friend bought tickets in advance online, so he paid about $13 for each ticket to get us in. This way, we didn't have to stand in line. All we had to do was bypass the line, show the bouncer guy our tickets and IDs, and we were in. There was a second line, I suppose to double-check people had tickets. If you didn't buy tickets in advance, they were $20 each. I didn't drink (not even water) at the club, so I can't tell you anything about the service or prices. I liked the spacious layout very much, which reminded me of some of the clubs in Cancun. The dance floor is downstairs with two bars. Upstairs there is a balcony where you can overlook the dance floor and see the DJ on stage. We spent most of our time here because my friend wanted to study Luke. There is also another room upstairs just for hip-hop and R&B music in the back; I liked the decor, especially seats looking like stereos. A back outdoor patio is downstairs, and it reminded me of Poison Girl's back patio (small but cozy). Dress code is casual. Be prepared to see ladies in high uncomfortable heels and sneakers. Some even wore denim shorts, and I envied them (since I was wearing heels). So, come comfortable! Also, note just because the alcohol sales stop at 2AM doesn't mean the crowd stops dancing and the DJ stops spinning. We left at 3AM, and the party was still going. I wouldn't mind coming here again.

Yelp
I can only vouch for the Thursday night hip hop party (for heterosexuals). But this club is huge, packed and lots of fun! It wasn't pretentious, or flashy. The drinks were hit or miss, some good but expensive, others I wasn't sure if they remembered the alcohol.... :(

Yelp
Honestly, I'm unimpressed, but this was the first time I've been to an 18+ club and it very well might have been my last. It seemed like the crowd was filled with teenie boppers and old creepers--can't say that's in my taste. Not to mention one of the old creepers tried to dance with my friend, and when she walked away, he spit on her back. Yeah, I'm not coming back. I remember this was THE place to go when I was in high school. I'm not sure why? I guess the music isn't that bad as it has several sections and 2 floors. And Anita Bump is pretty cool (she's the tranny) and her show is impressive. But! I don't see how this creates a similar club atmosphere as it has this large stage. Strange. Also, there are cages that girls like to get in and flaunt their stuff. Classy. So I probably sound like this judgmental bitch, but it's really just not my style. The outdoor patio is great though if you just want some air--and if you're of age, there's a huge bar out there. Only thing with the bar is, since it's 18+, you can only get one drink at a time. Oh yeah, did I mention the night I went was a really trashy Britney Spears Circus party? Having grown up on her songs, I actually like Britney, but I feel like the portrayal at the party was just done really poorly. They hired all kinds of dancers and fire breathers to perform on the stage..again, the stage, not really my thing. But at least Anita Bump had really impressive choreography towards the end..?

Yelp
This was my first time at a club like this and I was honestly not sure about it. But I had a great time. The queens were really nice and the people are really accepting. I even met someone there, and I'm gong on a date with them and the ending of the night is going to end right back where we met! I can't wait. It's a really great place to go and just hang out and have a good time. I went on a Monday and watched the drag race. It was absolutely mesmerizing. I couldn't take my eyes off them. The people are great and the atmosphere is awesome. Love this place!

Yelp
First off, the parking is sketch. You either pay $10+ for a lot or park on the street and pay 10+ because a hobo says he'll watch your car for you for $5, but when you come back out another guy tells you he watched your car and asks for $5. Lot seems like the smarter choice, but you'll have to get there before 12, I suppose. I've never had a problem getting in, but I'm also a girl. But ladies, if you're not of age, you better know someone or have $50 on you. Guys, don't even think about wearing a hat or non-trendy sneaks. The cost to get in is usually $10. Once you get in, it may not seem too crowded yet, but give it 20 minutes. It becomes unbearable! I don't know how people do it. I prefer having space for my limbs to actually move. If you get tired of the dancefloor and watching guys ogle at the gogo dancers scantily clad in lingerie, there are other rooms upstairs for you to lounge. The music is a mix of top 40 and house. The remixes are unnecessary because it literally makes me stop so I can try to find the beat. There are also frequent pauses to build momentum which really just build frustration 'cause I just want to get my dance on! The people are fine, not as pretentious as I thought. But they do allow "older" gentlemen (late 30's-40's) that try to dance with much younger ladies. Creep factor definitely present. Unfortunately, it's one of the best clubs for us in-betweeners (18-21).

Yelp
If you're into dance music, a bangin' sound system, loads of eye-candy, and an overall good time, then Rich's is the spot to be (at least on Fridays, I can't really speak for Thursdays and Saturdays as I've never been on those nights). I try to make it out here monthly, with the last time being in November for Bad Boy Bill, who totally rocked the place. Staff's very friendly and on top of things, especially the bartender that took care of me last time I went (Michelle I think her name was). My best piece of advice would be to get there early, and save yourself some $$$ by buying pre-sales online..they usually go for $5 or $10, with the door charge being $20. All in all, I make it a point to hit this place up anytime I go to Houston..it's always good times :)

Yelp
It is still a rundown part of downtown. The area is full of homeless people begging for money. One was honest, and said he was just looking for money for a beer. I offered to take him to Rich's with me, and he declined. They charge $20 for self parking in their garage. Then, have a cover, once inside. Too expensive, when compared to the usual gay scene, and too far from Montrose to be a place to bar hop to. We went three times, the first was Pride (their opening) they couldn't take cards and we had a bartender having a breakdown, basically throwing drinks at us. It's supposed to be the new spot to go, but with their crushed velvet drapes, pretentious feel, prices, and location? No thanks! They have two things going for them, the dance scene, downstairs. They do have decent music and are open late. The other is the more laid back area, upstairs. It has a different feel, and it's closed off enough, to where they can have something different (like drag shows). So, I'm still not a fan of the area, the pretentious feel, or the cheesy decor. But, if our friends want to go, I'm less against it, especially if they are having an event.

Yelp
Oh Rich's, my first clubbing experience. Hyped and glamorized by my girl friend who apparently does not have true club experience. You can't fairly hype something if you know the bouncers or whatever, so you just call ahead and they're ready to let you and your friends in immediately, etc. I digress, apparently her clout had waned, so we all paid 20 to get it... I was already drunk, so the $8 drinks seemed like a fine idea.... WHAT? It was loud as all hell. But we were early, and the firsts to start dancing, so for a while we got to play on the stage, etc. But then things got crowded, and it was decided we weren't sexy/slutty enough to be on the stage. Fine, I'll dance on the floor. Suffice to say, it was a blast, wish I hadn't drank so much I lost memory though. Apparently I found plenty of things to do, had my picture taken with people, etc... But even drunk, I could tell this was the kind of douchey atmosphere I won't come back to unless drug along by friends. I'd much rather go to Numbers!

Yelp
Great club! I really enjoy their patio. The upstairs " video bar" is sm Times really entertaining; the drag shows & Spanish music.

Yelp
I've been to rich's more times than I care to mention and everytime, there seem to be more and more people. Everyone below 21 knows about Rich's! Its a great 18+ place but not really for the older crowd. But the music has variety and the women are always gorgeous! I am always impressed at this club; the draw that this place has is incredible. I dont think this place is that great but the type of women you see here is just amazing regardless. There was one time I couldn't get in, but that was because he was a new bouncer, but most of the time they were pretty nice. Pros: WOMEN, best 18+ place Cons: Hobo's surrounding the area, Sometimes a Sausage Fest!

Yelp
Hate this place. I only went when dragged late night or to some DJ thing. It's 18 and up, so you get a ton of trashy little girls trying to skank it up in "club" attire. Clearly it's a gay bar most nights, so they still come on what is supposed to be the normal nights. I am not comfortable with boys using the girls restrooms, it's just trashy. Definitely in the run down area of San Jacinto (midtown just doesn't include it)

Yelp
This place is ridiculous I walked outside to look for my friends and they wouldn't let me back in to go find them. It's the most ridiculous thing to not allow me to go in and get my friends I'm never coming back. The bouncer is such a rude person I told him I'm leaving I just need to get all my friends and he wouldn't let me back in even though I had already paid for my entry.

Yelp
I went there Saturday afterhours last week with a few friends to hang out. They played House music in the main room but only a few people were there. The music wasn't that great though. It just seemed monotonous. The lighting on the dancefloor made the place look so bright which lost it's afterhours feel. Checked out the backroom and it was packed. They played commercial hip-hop. It was okay however, it was just too young me. There really isn't much of a choice of afterhours venues in Houston. I wish we had more.

Yelp
Rich's is Rich's...and that is, a Houston staple! Come on, it's a little grungy but you KNOW you're gonna have a great time. It's huge so you can always find a spot to sit after tearing up the dance floor!

Yelp
If you like House music, Electro, or just plain good clubbin, you'll love Rich's. On Fridays, there's always a big headlining DJ like Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto or ATB. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays are the nights they're open but they also have "Nightclub Cardio" on Wednesdays at 6 which is a great way to burn some calories and have a good time. It's a bit younger crowd but always a good time. the club has been there 30 years. They have to be doing something right. Average age is probably 22

Yelp
The music in every room is WAAAAAY too loud. For those of us who still have decent hearing, this place is detrimental to your aural capacity.
