20 Iconic Dishes That Define Miami

"The Dish: Pastelito Every Miamian looks forward to the mesmerizing sight of glazed pastelitos in the morning. We once even gathered 35 of them in a conference room to try and decide which was best. Ricky Bakery came out on top, with its defined layers of puff pastry that look like the fore-edge of an ancient book. They have a great guava pastelito, but the pastelito de guayaba y queso is even better. It has the best balance of tangy cream cheese and guava paste that’s more tart than sweet." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino

The Miami Pastelito Power Rankings

"These are the most well-rounded pastelitos in Miami, with defined layers of puff pastry that look like the fore-edge of an ancient book. Ricky has a great guava pastelito, but the pastelito de guayaba y queso is even better. It has the perfect balance of tangy cream cheese and guava paste that’s more tart than sweet (compared to other sugar bombs we’ve had). The sweetness with this one comes from the glaze. Most pastelitos are just glazed on top, but Ricky brushes both sides with a thin layer of syrup. It’s pastelito genius, and demonstrates the kind of attention to detail that makes Ricky’s pastelitos the best. " - mariana trabanino, virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer

Ricky Bakery Coral Way Review - Coral Way - Miami - The Infatuation

"Ricky Bakery (not to be confused with Vicky Bakery) is a Cuban bakery with four locations across Miami. At their Coral Way shop, five deli cases filled with pastries and cakes snake around the space. But what you should be prioritizing here are pastelitos—Ricky makes our favorite one in town. It’s a perfect example of what we think makes a classic Miami pastelito. It has a balance of tangy cream cheese and guava paste that’s more tart than sweet—instead, the sweetness comes from the glaze. Most pastelitos around town are just glazed on top, but Ricky brushes both sides with a thin layer of syrup. Genius. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC" - Virginia Otazo

Google
For the best quality Pastelitos in Miami. Ricky Bakery on 32nd SW 24 st ( Coral Way) very fresh. I place my order of 50 or more about 2 hrs before I pick up. I’m the talk of all my sales meeting. Thank you to all the ladies at Ricky Bakery for the excellent service

Christy Cuarezma

Google
Don't order with Uber from this place. The coffee is always spilt and then it sogs everything inside the bag. They can't place the coffee in a proper container so that it doesn't spill. Today, more than half of my coffee was gone by the time the order got to me. It soaked the bag and the cuban tostada I ordered.

Brooke Yoder

Google
We use to come here every year during our trips to Miami. There use to be full display cases with lines of people. The cases were empty, there were no people and the food was awful. The empanada were ice cold and we trashed them. The papa rellenos were overcooked and the meat was so bad. The only thing that was fantastic was the guava and cheese pastelitos. This place holds many precious memories for me, but I won’t be back. The media noche was also trashed. It tasted strongly of vinegar. The food is just not edible. There are way to many places in Miami with fantastic Cuban food then to ever eat here again.

Google
The Team at Ricky Bakery always provides service with a smile. Their pastelitos are second to none. I highly recommend!!

Google
Fresh and delicious. House made croquetas. Very friendly staff. Has their wheat cuban bread it pretty good.

Karen Visbal

Google
The messiest unfresh Cuban bread I have ever had in Miami. This bread is not from today. We ordered it this morning.

Google
I was ignored for a minute, just looked over by the ladies that work at Ricky's bakery. Finally, when I ordered my coffee and toast, they didn't listen at all. I asked for dark coffee and really toasted toast. My coffee wasn't dark, and the butter on my toast wasn't even melted. And for almost $10! I didn't give less stars because it wasn't always like this. 😠☕🍞 #Bakery #Coffee #Toast #Service #Disappointment

Google
Ricky Bakery is very consistent with their service. I’ve been a customer for over 10 years and they never disappoint. Always fresh, very tasty. I’ve used them for multiple events. And the service is the best! Especially if you meet Maribel, Teresa, Magaly or Conchita, these ladies will treat you like family.

Yelp
I never see anyone in here and always see a ton of pastry on their shelves at closing time. Always wondered what they do with it. I now know the old pastry stays on the shelves and eventually gets sold because my cuatro leches had mold underneath the dulce de leche. The girl was nice and replaced it with tres leches she said was more fresh but still, ew.

Yelp
I'd like to start by saying that this has been my go to cuban bakery for years. Quality of their pastelitos was once amazing, then it went to mediocre and currently they are back to being pretty good. Service for me has been consistently good but I have noticed when they get swamped the atmosphere can get tense. I typically get the tostada and cafe con leche. Because in true cuban fashion, one must dip their tostada in the coffee. I also grab a a couple of pastelitos (usually the guava and cheese and the meat) to complete the cuban breakfast pyramid. I'm surprised by the many negative reviews but I would definitely recommend giving them a try.

Yelp
Always excellent cafe con leche and pastelitos. Wonderful workers as well. Preferred over the other larger chain.

Yelp
Customer service, have no respect for the customers. No common courtesy. Need better manners

Tracy D.

Yelp
The service is AWFUL. Expect to wait about 10-15 minutes to order and then another 10-15 minutes for your order. Service is rude and the women behind the counter seem annoyed you are there. Also, it has become MUCH more expensive than it was even five years ago.
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
I've been ordering from this bakery for a while now. The ambiance is always welcoming. The service is good for the most part, but that's because they're always very busy! All of the pastries, bread, coffee are always great. The food is always fresh and coffee is always perfect! I'd definitely recommend this place for breakfast!

Laura C.

Yelp
The pastelitos and croquetas is not of good quality, the price is a little high for the poor quality
google avatar

Teresa S.

Yelp
Great Cuban sandwiches and desserts! Perfect place to order mini sandwiches and croquetas for parties. Great prices!!!
google avatar

Carmen G.

Yelp
They are so polite and I can't wait to visit again! They remind me of Chicas bakery in Union City, NJ.
google avatar

Felipe C.

Yelp
I believe this bakery has been around for many years and I don't think they have gotten renovated in awhile. The place needs it so bad. Service is good, they are nice, the food is delicious especially breakfast and the desserts are very good.

Roy Ori C.

Yelp
The best Cuban bakery in south Miami The best pastelitos , croquetas, always fresh and tasty.
google avatar

Anthony P.

Yelp
Terrible - mediocre - overprice - F+ Old food without taste ..waste of time and money.

Rafael S.

Yelp
Great cakes and pastries but the service to eat in is the worst, someone should teach them how to work as a team I felt I was inside a chicken coop.

Yelp
On Sunday, January 22 I had breakfast at the Coral Way location, and unfortunately I lost my Apple Air Pods (which are paired to my iPhone). I returned on Monday night to retrieve them and the employees told me to come back on Tuesday to see Conchita (manager). I went back on Tuesday morning and explained everything to her. She refused to help me, even though my Air Pods are still in the building. I showed Conchita and the other employees the "Find My" screen on my phone, which clearly showed that the Air Pods are somewhere in their kitchen. None of them wanted to go in there and look. They even denied the Air Pods are in the building! They said "your iPhone is wrong". My iPhone is paired to my Air Pods, as well as other devices whose locations are accurate. It's crazy. I have been a Ricky Bakery customer for 15 years. They know me, they see my face all the time and this is how they treated me.

Yelp
Croquetas are life. Ham ones, chicken ones, mixed ones - I love 'em all! Enter the latest in my love: spinach croquetas, and hello, Ricky Bakery, you are my provider for them. See, it all started as follows. We often have breakfast potlucks at work. On many occasions, people have brought croquetas, and better still, they have brought spinach croquetas. Now I am used to traditional meat-filled croquetas, but I tried the spinach ones and it was love at first bite. Hence, I needed to know where they were bought at and so I was told of this place. I finally had the opportunity to visit a couple of mornings back. The place is one of the few in the area with its own designated parking spaces, so yay to free parking. That aside, it's a decent size; plenty of chairs and tables available to sit down and have a quick breakfast. The lady who attended me was nice. I was in and out quickly. Two things to note, however: 1) Speaking Spanish here will make your life much easier; 2) You have limits to use a card. Credit cards: $5; Amex: $10.

Yelp
This is one of those good old reliable spots for pastelitos and Cuban pastries/desserts. This shop is conveniently located on Coral Way, and it has a large parking lot, which is always full, so parking on the street is your alternative. I have been stopping here for years, I really like how reliable they are. Never have I had a bad pastry, bread, sandwich, or coffee here. However, I would skip the breakfast menu, which is ridden with oil and fat, cheese and butter. I have never ordered a Cuban cake (Kay-cee-tow), or one of their party packages, so I don't know about that. But everything under the glass is good. Looking for fresh orange juice? They have it. There is a big imaginary sign that reads "Only Spanish", so use your translate option here, or learn to use it. Want croquetas? They'll fry them on the spot for you. Does it get any better? Muy Bueno. Muy Bonito.

Yelp
This place although a little disorganized is very good food. Very authentic Cuban bakery and they make large meals for families if you preorder. Not just for kids bdays. It also for dinners and lunch Maryville at the front counter is very wonderful with the customers and balancing out all of the line over and calls coming in. Prices are very reasonable and there's plenty of space inside to eat but the lines are sometimes not manageable because of the amount of orders coming in on the phone and through Uber another platform that they service, with limited staff they have
google avatar

Mariela A.

Yelp
This was our first time and our experience was terrible customer service was ok, but my scrambled eggs they forgot to add the cheese and the onions, the moose chocolate was bad too, Cuban bread oh no I think in other places they make much better I will never come back here for sure.
google avatar

Javier V.

Yelp
Went in, trying to get a quick bite before work. As the bakery lady was talking to me, she kept interrupting me to speak to her co worker about coffee. After waiting to finally for her to take my order. She gives me my two croquettes & they're not cooked & the filling is inside is frozen. I sadly couldn't return them as I was already running late to work, but I know I'm never coming here again.

Yelp
When I need a mid afternoon coffee break I usually visit this Ricky Bakery Location. Why you may ask? It's conveniently located in the heart of the Shenandoah/Coral Gate Areas of Miami and the staff already know what I get so there's no need to request what I need when walking in. The Cuban ladies that work here are fabulous. They're super nice and provide excellent customer service. This bakery is extremely clean at all times. I love their Cuban coffee and enjoy the cafe con leche very much. There's an available parking lot for the bakery and if you can't find parking there then there's plenty of off-street parking (metered parking - Miami Parking Authority - Pay by Phone). The pastelitos and croquetas here are delicious. Most customers tend to purchase their empanadas but I've never tried them myself. Everyone has their favorite bakery in Miami but honestly give Ricky Bakery a chance and visit them if you're in the area.

Geno F.

Yelp
Was just informed here that a Cubano sándwich does not have pernil and you have to ask for it. So here a cubano is ham and cheese sandwich. Extremely confused since this is the first time I've ever been asked to include pernil in a cubano. When I did ask for it they served me the same sandwich "Cubano" (with a bite missing) with a bunch of pork cold cuts. Everything was cold. This was atrocious. Service and food was horrendously bad for a 2pm Tuesday.
google avatar

Omar V.

Yelp
One of Best Bakery in Miami . If you are looking for a Cuban bakery These is it off Coral way !"
google avatar

Alexa C.

Yelp
I was intrigued by the spinach croquetas and was in dire need of a pastelito so I landed here right in time to snag the perfect parking spot. The interior is setup just like you'd expect the traditional Cuban bakery to be. All your Tres Leches dreams are just an order away at this lovely spot. Plus, who can resist chicken croquetas? Not many people! The bright red lit logo outside shows the entrance to pull in as you can truly be yourself and order all the goodies you want without judgment. Not only is it reliable, but it's delicious! Plus, the freshly squeezed orange juice is the perfect boost for the mornings when starting off your day here. Rickys is a solid choice when looking for consistency and friendly service within a Cuban bakery that's right in the heart of Coral Gables.

Hannah C.

Yelp
I ordered from this bakery through uber eats, and let me tell you the food was absolutely horrible. The food came cold, the food didn't even taste good at all and on top of that. My tequeno, had a hair INSIDE of it. How disgusting, I am absolutely disgusted with this. I am never ordering from here, and I will make sure to never let any of my friends or family order from here.

Sachari A.

Yelp
google avatar

Johanna S.

Yelp
My Cuban friend took me here a few days ago to try authentic Cuban food. We had the following: pan con tortilla, empanadas, croquettes, tostada, and more. They were so so so good in every way. There was a long line when we went in and everyone was wearing masks, which made me feel safe. My favorite is pan con tortilla and beef empanadas. The price point is great. The staff is friendly. I did ask my friends for some Spanish lessons and ordered in Spanish when I went again by myself. I recommend!
google avatar

Glenn D.

Yelp
I went for breakfast on Sunday with my in-laws and we ordered a couple of different things like panini sandwich, pastelitos, scramble eggs, coffee, etc. The good things is that the prices are very reasonable and they have lots of options to choose from and over all the food is tasty and made fresh. What I didn't like is that as soon as you walk in there is a strong smell of fried food and sticks to your clothing and you'll end up smelling like fried food all day. The staff is not super friendly and they mainly speaks Spanish so you might have a hard time ordering in English. Tip: if you don't like your coffee too sweet ask for it with out sugar because they make it EXTRA sweet...
google avatar

Sussy H.

Yelp
it was whatever i guess, only thing i did enjoy was the croquettes & the orange juice other then that, the toastada cubana tasted like nail polish remover. toastada ham and cheese was a 5/10 & theres flys always flying around it's disgusting. the customer service does need to be worked on and they need to do less talking and more working
google avatar

Ciara M.

Yelp
I really appreciate this place! I ordered a cafe con leche, empanada, and pastelito with a friend and loved it! Even if this place has a mediocre rating, there is a line in this place! Tables are nearly full when I came. They have a wide range of selections in pastries! Everything looked good. I came for the cafe con leche, pastelito, and empanada only though! Struggled a bit in ordering because my spanish isn't all that great but the lady still got our order correctly. Taste wise-- amazing! Pastelito with some guava filling and a beef empanada really hit the spot! I had the sweet and the salty balance going on. Haha! Cafe con leche was also just right for me. Not super sweet but sweet enough as it should be. I am not from Miami and would definitely miss this place.
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
We came late two nights ago and it was a great treat. Speaking Spanish is a plus. We ordered croquetas de jamón, pastelitos de guayaba, and pastelitos de guayaba con queso. They were all served warm. They didn't have any señoritas but all of it was delicious. The reviews were right. Definitely ordered the pastelitos de guayaba con queso- the best! Will be back!
google avatar

Yami D.

Yelp
I don't recall having negative experience in any of their bakeries. Super clean, nice ambience and super delicious and fresh pastelitos.
google avatar

Yelp
Ricky Bakery isn't huge inside, but they do have an impressive variety of things to offer from traditional Cuban pastries to desserts and sweets to birthday/wedding cake creation and decorating to made to order breakfasts and other foods, along with a handful of tables/chairs for patrons to sit and eat. There is an attached parking lot, but during busy times they sometimes ask vehicles to park 2 deep to accommodate everyone. If you don't speak Spanish you will most likely face a bit of a language barrier with the staff, as few here speak fluent English, but I've usually been able to get by by pointing or asking one of the customers or other staff to help translate when necessary. I've come to Ricky Bakery on a few occasions: The first was when it was my turn to provide a light breakfast at work for a special occasion. Normally whomever is in charge of supplying food for those breakfast events will bring donuts or bagels, but I wanted to do something a bit different and unique. I came here to Ricky Bakery, told them how many I needed to feed and asked for them to provide a box full of the appropriate amount of assorted Cuban pastries from the display case. I then went to other side of this shop and selected a few sweets like eclairs, lady locks/cream horns and a few other dessert-type pastries from the other set of display cases. In short, my co-workers (a handful of whom are Latin) offered high praise and were thrilled to have something a bit different from the usual donuts or bagels. The other time I stopped here was for breakfast. I was able to get a full cooked to order Cuban breakfast with a drink and a hoagie sized piece of warm Cuban bread for something extremely reasonable like $8.

Eddie R.

Yelp
Wish I could give 0 Stars.. just spent $40 and regret tipping on top of that. Tequeños were very hard and the shakes literally had no sugar whatsoever. I explained to the woman that the tequeños were really hard and seemed old and she tried giving me a scientific explanation as to why they needed to be that way. Trust me when I tell you not to come here. For this disgusting quality, I would've just hit up the gas station pastries. I should get a refund including my tip.
google avatar

Kate P.

Yelp
A big variety of tasty cakes. They also have other party with spinach and meat. Place looks clean.
google avatar

Lynette B.

Yelp
Horrible service. Walked in and one lady was helping a little girl with her homework while the other was attending the only other customer that was there. That lady had to call out to the other lady to even acknowledge my existence. The most horrible part was that another customer walked in and she immediately attended them instead of me. I walked out and won't be returning thanks to that lady.
google avatar

Ifeanyi K.

Yelp
As soon as they I walked they greeted me and asked if I need help. Which was nice, real nice....everyone likes to feel special. At Ricky's bakery they have the cakes, tarts, and many Hispanic pastries. Being being the pheen I am for Hispanic desserts.. Got a Jamon y Queso Empanada, mini papa de rellenos(I like how they had mini ones. Its the perfect amount and not too overwhelming in taste), and a Spinach y queso danish looking treat. Their prices were very reasonable...as well. The line service was quick and the pastries tasted great. My only drawback was that my food was lukewarm. They didn't even ask if I wanted it warmed up, so I had to take it home to warm it up.
google avatar

Arlen S.

Yelp
Who would've known I would've ended up in Ricky's and not Vicky's! (hahaha) After getting out of doing chores for my boss, I decided to take some treats back to the office. It was Friday and lots of estrogen in an office, the calories don't count! I decided to go in anyway and hope for the best. Most places never do pastries very fresh so I wasn't expecting much out of this place. But they exceeded my expectations. I ordered beef pastries, cheese pastries, croquetas, and mousse. The mousse was okay, I feel the frosting over it was a bit too much, too sweet (and I love sweet). But it was okay. The beef and cheese pastries were amazing and super fresh. The cheese one I love because it actually had cheese. It wasn't burnt and they didn't rip me off. The beef ones were also so so good. Not over cooked, had great flavor. And the croquetas, wow! The look of the place is very nice and spacious. I would definitely go there to have lunch and relax for a while rather than go to a Starbucks to be honest. I will definitely go back.

Enrique V.

Yelp
Best Pastelitos in the city. I call in my order an hour before I arrive. Made fresh to take to my clients for breakfast meetings. I usually order 20 meat, 20 cheese and 20 Guava.. Ask for Theresa .
google avatar

Luis M.

Yelp
I ordered scrambled eggs with French fries to go and got this within five minutes. For the price you're paying, you'd expect a little better quality than half cooked french fries, soggy eggs, and watery content swirling around at the bottom. Nobody there spoke English so when I tried to place a complaint about my order, I was screamed at in Spanish.
google avatar

Frank F.

Yelp
My absolute favorite bakery, no trills no flash just good pastelitos great bread and wonderful breakfast. Ladies who work there are great friendly and like family.
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
If you want to have the best bakery in town, please keep the scooters out of the Handicap parking spot. I have mobility issues and EVERYTIME I pull in there are one or two parked illegally in the spot. Uber Pick up doesn't mean the disabled have to make sacrifices just to get breakfast. I love to buy breakfast for my employees at least once a week. Next scooter I see I will just keep driving. Show some leadership and address the issue. Otherwise this veteran will take his business elsewhere.
google avatar

Jonathan L.

Yelp
This bakery is authentic and amazing. The service is exceptional and they make you feel at home. Great decor and extreme cleanliness at this place. Pastries sandwiches and cafe con leche are delicious and a must when you visit.
google avatar

Michelle D.

Yelp
Short of the slowness in service, and occasional lack of parking, this place is always on point. Great Cuban baked goods, OJ you can have squeezed-site, and colada. Adjacent to Just the Funny, so actors have come here for years. A neighborhood staple!

Delia B.

Yelp
Very disappointmented. I usually order from old reliable Pinecrest but thought of ordering from Ricky's to try it, never again. The driver insisted that they didn't include the coffees, showed to them on the stub and they just refused to check and sent him off. When I called to complain they told me I had to order other items for them to deliver me the cafes, sounds like a scam to me.Aside their food and pastelitos can't compare to Pinecrest. Ended up to get our café con leches at Pinecrest Bakery.
google avatar

Carlos O.

Yelp
I came here Sunday at noon to grab some breakfast. I ordered the desayuno completo. The complete breakfast is eggs with ham, onions, cheese, French fries and small coffee for $8 which is not bad for the area. Also ordered a side of bacon. The coffee was basically the one thing that tasted good. The French fries were burned, couldn't enjoy them. The bacon was beyond well done. You couldn't enjoy it. The eggs, ham and onions were just bland. Since I didn't enjoy it, I ordered a Pan de Bono which surprisingly was good.
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
We love going here, the café con leche is the best in Miami. Magaly enhances our experience with great service and a smile.
google avatar

Salmi A.

Yelp
Such a great bakery, in fact is my favorite so far. It has a wide variety in dessert and their breakfast is just super cheap for all the food that comes. Btw, great Cuban coffee. Totally recommended
google avatar

Andres M.

Yelp
If you want to eat the most stale Hispanic deserts and media noches and sandwiches without mustard, please come here. It seams like Ricky doesn't care anymore and just hires some very incompetent employees. You can go any where in Hialeah and will find much better competent balseras to make you a sandwich. The lady hands us a croqueta sandwich and even stated that if cold let her know she will heat it up again. Not coming back to this Miami staple, they lost my business. Brazo Fuerte down the street beats them a million times.

Elsa B.

Yelp
I had not been to the Ricky Bakery on Coral Way near 32nd Avenue for over two years although I live within walking distance. The amount of garbage in front of the store is not an inviting site. Makes you wonder how the kitchen looks... I know that the area in front of the store is public property but, the businesses are supposed to maintain it clean. It is to their own benefit to keep it attractive and clean for the customers. It would take a few minutes a day for a store employee to go and clean the area in front of the store. You see a lot of store owners on Coral Way every day cleaning the front of their stores. Good for business, good for Miami, good for the Neighborhood.
