I have been ordering food from here since I was younger! Not sure when they opened but way before their renovation! I know Ridgewood has a couple of Dominican resultants nearby & there’s another location in Brooklyn but this is my favorite go to! It also was walking distance from when I use to live in Ridgewood. Their lunch special are now $8 or $9 which is still pretty good cause they also stack your plate with food! The never slack with giving plenty of food in your plates! I’ve always been a big fan of their pernil, rotisserie chicken, arroz con gandules(yellow rice with pigeon peas, beans, & chicharron de pollo sin jueso. I use to get their chicken soup but then it got a little too greasy for me. Even their vegetables are good lol. Their staff is always ready to help and serve and their restaurant is always clean. They’re always changing the trays so thats how you know when food is fresh and not sitting out all day. Not sure for how long they’ve been letting customers pay with card but that has come in handy! They use to only accept cash years ago and there’s an atm there but I know many people who don’t like that extra atm charge! I will always recommend this restaurant for anyone who is living in Ridgewood and need a fulfilling dish!

The chicken is fire. The sides are delicious esp the rice and beans. I would eat here every day if I lived closer. Plus it’s very affordable! I always have leftovers Edit: recently started ordering their chicken soup here. It has some bones in it but is so flavorful and satisfying (probably because they cook with bones). Highly recommend

The food was incredible. Good portion sizes. Our waitress was very nice and on top of all our needs. The price was also decent, especially given the economy we are living in now. Would recommend. Food was delicious

For $11 lunch plate, the food was mid at best. First off, the food was just warm, not hot. Small portion of beans with more bean sauce than beans, yellow rice was basic. I had to ask for vegetables which was a small portion, and probably charged for it. I asked her for baked chicken white meat and got a big wing with small breast piece with a bunch of bones. The chicken wasn't hot and the flavor was mid. I ate the whole plate and I'm not fully satisfied for $11. If it was any smaller, I'd still be hungry. Overrated imo. I wish I drove to ENY to that good Chinese restaurant or saved my money at went to McDonald's. It wasnt worth $11. Maybe $8 at best but it wasn't worth it at all. She stingy with portions and everything else costs extra.

There is a good reason this place has been around for 20+ years. The food has never gone down in quality or quanity.

The best around. Lovely people lovely food. Gets pretty packed but you won’t wait longer than 10 minutes. Great variety on the weekends. One $10 plate is easily more than 1 meal even after an intense workout at blink next door.

They have a great selection of Spanish food besides the rotisserie chicken. They gave white rice and Spanish rice with beans. The pulled pork is flavorful and the portion side is very ample for great meal plus extra fir later. Every day they add a different dish besides the regular beef stew and fried whole fish. Highly recommend it but be prepared to wait due to long line of people getting their foods.

Good chicken and rice takes too long sometimes though could use faster pick up and it's perfect .

I do not do reviews but their customer service is TRASH. They are rude in the front and never pack what you order to go. Items are always missing because the staff is always chit chatting and not paying attention. Everyone looks miserable.

Food is great but when trying to communicate with the workers. Barely any speak English. I don't like having to wait an extra 5 to 10 minutes because only one person wants to deal with the guy who speaks English. It's rude :/

Wasn't really sure what to order and how to order. I went with two different family combos off the menu. One chicken chicharron, it was okay... I misread and thought it was the pork chicharron. The other was a lamb stew which was pretty good. The lamb wasn't gamey. Both combos came with a substantial amount of rice. They were beyond generous when it came to rice. Service was quite excellent. They probably could tell we are obviously not from the neighborhood and first timers in their restaurant so they were quite helpful and patient with us when we were ordering. It was a very busy restaurant, it was hustling and bustling the whole time we were there. I definitely want to go back again and try something else.

They have the best peril I've had, making it one of my comfort foods since being in NYC. I walked in with big eyes, but the folks working were really patient. When they couldn't hear me, they read the notes section on my phone. I left with a huge portion of tender pernil and yellow rice. I catch myself daydreaming about it sometimes, wondering if I should move to Ridgewood just to be closer to it.

Food was delicious; a little on the saltier side. Ordered whole chicken with 2 sides and 1L coke along with few large main entrees (pernil, chicharron, and fried chicken) with more sides. Loved everything we ordered, line was confusing but it moves relatively fast. Would order from here again!

Pernil sandwich was tasteless. The yuca was super dry and tough and the onions on top tasted rancid.

I have never been so disappointed in a business who shares my culture. Spanish people we take pride in our food and feeding people.Today me and my husband put in an order for delivery after his meal was confirmed by three different employees in both English and Spanish. The front counter women found herself jotting down sirloin instead of salmon. Being allergic to meat and his first meal off the day he didn't want to call and fight he wasn't going to eat. After waiting and confirming with the restaurant the employee was planning on keeping his money and not providing the correct meal even though delivery man was tipped well and the first order was completely untouched and never open. Had to shame the man to give my husband what he so rightly paid for this business has become very careless and a sore thumb of the neighborhood.DISGUSTING!!!!!

Local Spanish place. Rotisserie Chicken is always good. Rice and beans are good too. Ick up service is usually pretty quick. Usually order takeout. Ambiance is okay. Place has seating but usually we just pick up and go or order take out.

Came for a trip down memory lane to Ridgewood. Haven't been here to eat in a decade (or two). Was recommended this place by a long time resident. He said the food is fresh and you can check it out right when you come in. We opted for seating, since we're out of towners but the majority of patrons took their food to go. Getting seated and menus took about 5 minutes. Was a bit shell shocked to have to pay for water but no big deal. Seating is very tight. There's about 3 TVs to watch. Ordered the pepper steak, steak with sautéed onions, cheeseburger deluxe, tripe soup, maduros plantains (soft), and 1/2 rotisserie chicken with pigeon peas. Steaks were all good. Served on the well done side. Tripe soup was sooooo delicious. Hubby was stuffed so I was lucky enough to finish it for him. My chicken was 3/5. The dressing that it came with was like a very very salty Italian dressing. The maduros weren't that sweet or soft. So 3/5. Our waitress was very professional. She didn't write any of our orders down and got them all right. And when we told her what we wanted to order she'd nod her head with a smirk like "mmm hmmm. That's what's up". Like y'all gonna be eating good tonight! Wasn't offered a dessert menu -but let me just say as a mom of 3- I'm really glad she didn't LOL. I recommend you all give this a try. There are a ton of things on the menu- breakfast, burgers, Spanish food, steaks, rotisserie chicken...

Horrible service. Dry food. Too many good Dominican spots to try instead of wasting time here.

I was in the neighborhood visiting a friend and told her that I was hungry so she suggested that I try this place out. The restaurant is a pretty decent size and the seating looks like it can accommodate about twenty five people for table service. I love to eat Spanish food so when I try a new place out, it has to meet certain standards. I like the fact that they have many different options of food choices to choose from. I've never seen mashed potatoes as a choice in a Spanish restaurant until I came here. I chose to order pernil with yellow rice and a small of beans for takeout. The food was good, however the rice was too salty for my taste buds. That rice was trying to raise my blood pressure. They put way too much salt during the cooking process instead of relying on fresh ingredients to enhance the flavor of the rice. Hey, I know this because I can cook lol! I noticed that this restaurant gets really busy quickly. My friend said they are the busiest and most popular Spanish restaurant in the neighborhood. I would definitely come back but would stay away from the rice though.

75.00 for food delivery, 1 1/2 hour later finally arrived with missing food, and spilled drinks.

Theres a reason why this place has lines going out the door. The food is damn good, great service. They feed you alot for a great price. Its just like being served by your dominican abuela. Great home cooking .and im glad they finnaly implemented payment by credit/debt cards. EAT HERE and enjoy

#I joined the long line for takeout. Asked for Goat and Mashed Potatoes. She said the goat that's left is all bones. I said that's fine. Just give me what you got. She gave me a good #discount because it was so little meat. Little did she didn't know that actually I just wanted to suck on the bones anyway. So I was #winning. But the mashed potatoes had no seasoning. No salt. I guess that was a fair price in the end. So maybe not #winning.

la comida es buena pero El cajero español mayor roba a la gente al no devolver la cantidad adecuada de cambio. Busque este centavo en su bolsillo es mejor que el de ellos. Me ha pasado 3 veces las dos primeras. Lo dejé pasar pero estoy harto de esto. The food is good but The older Spanish cashier robs people by not giving back the proper change amount. Look out for this cents in your pocket is better than theirs. It has happened to me 3 times the first two I let it slide but I'm fed up with this.

Omg all the options. Great food. Prices are very reasonable. When feeding a family go for the combo u won't regret it. Octopus salad well worth the $15.

Ordered food from them. Food was delicious, affordable and delivery was fast! I'm only giving it four stars because the lady that answered the phone wasn't very welcoming.

Rico pollo is the beat Dominican food in Ridgewood. The rotisserie chicken can be smelled from outside and honestly draws you in. My go to lunch meal with the pernil with yellow rice and beans. Their empanadas are really good but sometimes they are sold out. I've been coming here my whole life. My family usually does pick up and gets a family meal.

You want genuine Dominican food? Look no further! This is the place to find the best Dominican (if not the best period) food in Ridgewood and possibly outside of Ridgewood!

Great place for some good ole Dominican comfort food. Stopped by when I was in the area and even though it was late (pass 9pm) the food was fresh. I had the rice and peas with pernil. The pork was well seasoned and I loved that was rice was not over cooked as most restaurants do. My son had the tenders and white rice and my mom had the fried pork. Everything was delicious. My favorite part was the tres leche cake they sell. The staff was nice and attentive. Not the nicest place to sit and eat but they do have plenty of tables and chairs for people who want to eat in.

The food it is alway good, the flavor it is Dominican styles very natural, I dig a little big and sure the food it is fresh, because they don't keep a old flast day, everyday clean fresh cook food. I been ordering food also for a catering party that we make few time of year, all the people we invited to party alway said the food was delicious. In this is very important to me and my family. Our guest has to be happy with the food we provide in any event or party. That why my family love. La comida de Rico pollo.. totalmente lo recomiendo.

Visted today at about 5pm. Very busy. The servers are not very friendly. They just ask the basic. What are you having and anything to drink. We ordered pepper steak, yellow rice with pigeon beans and plantins. Food was good service fell flat.

Food is ok, but customer service is the worst, it's like 20 people serving but after 15 min finally somebody says "siguiente next" you can call them and it's always a guy who I don't know if he's deaf but you can call him 29 times and it's never gonna pay you attention, worst customer service in my life

By far my favorite place to get Spanish food in Ridgewood. Every thing tastes delicious! I've been coming here for years and I love it. They recently did a store renovation and it looks great. Last time I was in there they only take cash so know that before hand. Sometimes the line is out if the door but don't worry, it goes quick! I will be back.

I really like coming here food is always good but my last visit i asked for one thing & got another. 1 order was white rice,pernil & maduros. The lady gave me white rice, beans , & pernil. I know she heard me right because she repeated my order back to me. Another order i said arroz con gandules, chicharron de pollo & maduros. She gave me just rice & pernil. Then she charged us & bagged it. Ive had various people always take my order but its never been more wrong. They were really busy but when aren't they. It just seemed like no matter what i asked for she would just put whatever she wanted to get us out quicker.

I first heard of Rico Pollo after my friend, who was visiting from Sydney, stayed over and he ran across the place on Myrtle Avenue. He said he really liked the food, so one time after he had left, I decided to give the place a try. I noticed the restaurant before as they always had long lines during dinner time, which is usually a good sign. (+) The only reason I am giving this place one star more than the lowest mark is because the food is actually OK. It's not the best, but it's good. The dining area is decent. They have a lot of tables, TVs to entertain patrons who are dining in, and decent air conditioning. But the good stuff ends there. (-) There is no shortage of Spanish (Puerto Rican/Dominican) restaurants in Ridgewood. If you ever swing by my neighborhood, and are the type who actually values good service, I suggest you try the other spots nearby. What really pisses me off about Rico Pollo is the utter rudeness of the staff. I am specifically talking about the "ladies" manning the service counter. They are snappy, smarmy, and act as if they are better than you. They don't seem to like anyone who does not look nor sound Dominican, as both me and my boyfriend have received very poor treatment here (I am Asian, and my boyfriend, though could pass as Dominican (but is actually South and Central American) doesn't sound Dominican). They are also immensely slow. The lines get mad long around 6PM, in part due to the take-home dinner rush, but also akin to the fact that they move slow. The food is already ready on the hot buffet. There is practically no reason for a queue! One time, I ordered tostones, which were made fresh. I saw the cook take it out to the front after a few minutes, but my tostones literally sat on the counter table for 10 minutes before they finally rang me to pay. My boyfriend and I have ordered food to-go and for pick-up from here about three to five times, and we've always been met with the same rudeness--whether in person or over the phone. If you want Puerto Rican/Dominican food, go instead to La Flor del Paraiso on Cornelia Avenue a few blocks down. It's smaller, but the people there are way nicer.

Now this is some good Dominican food! I love Dominican food so much. Lol. They give hefty portions so you'll have plenty of leftovers. Clean & reasonably priced. Plenty of options for non-meat eaters too.

Great bang for the buck. There line system is a little awkward and can be a little overwhelming but once you get used to it you stay wanting to come back. Best to order take out as the place isn't very inviting. Also helps if you speak Spanish. Food is sitting out buffet style a so be mindful of the times you stop in and observe the freshness of cook especially the meats, they tend to dry out over time.

I got all the hype about this place and I think I get it. But I don't at the same time if that makes sense? Don't get me wrong, the food is good but nothing absolutely spectacular as I've been hearing from others. As their name would suggest, you'd expect their chicken to blow your socks off but actually it was more the sides than the chicken itself that I thought packed the flavor. Their chicharron is totally on point!!!

Overly priced, long lines, rude service and mediocre food! I looked into the basement once and it was disgusting with chicken in bags near garbage! Someone needs to call an inspector on them! Horrible service! Overly priced chicken and rude women! On several occasions I went there near 10pm and we stood there for 15 mins and they look at us, But they don't acknowledge you and ignore you! All that rudeness So you can pay $9 for a small whole chicken! They are soooo unorganized, that the line is always long but only cause they have a super failed system to take orders and serve! One last thing, if you order one extra sauce for the chicken that's less than an ounce they charge you for it! Seriously! For $9 chicken $5 1/2 chicken and they charge you for a little 1 oz homemade sauce? You can get an entire chicken at most supermarket, rotisserie and good for $4.99- And you don't have to worry about the rude service!

The food is good. Just sometimes too busy and getting a table is a long wait! Take out is recommended if very busy ...like the rotisserie chicken excellent place to grab lunch.

I do not know where to even start. Ordering and delevery service is horrible. I ordered 3 meals and my delivery came i paid and walked up stairs to notice only 2 meals where in the bag. I called and they refused to send the delivery guy back with the other meal or my cash. I have never in my life imagined any place would do this. I have walked in and ordered they r very rude to ppl who dnt speak spanish. I shld have just stood away frm a plc like this. Gave it a 2sd try and they stole my money.

I love this place.... any time i come to New York i try to make it here... Not only is the food delicious but they also serve large portions.. The mofongo is absolutely the best I've ever had.

Solid Spanish spot and for $7 you get a shit load of food. They are busy which is good because the food is always fresh! It doesn't matter the time, everything for the most part looks fresh or is being replenished. None of that crusty looking food sitting around for God knows how long. For the most part, the workers are nice here. The last lady, not so much. She was being stingy with giving veggies etc that she should've done without being asked. Then she was thinking that we weren't going to pay for my friend's order, which was more money. The wench really kept saying "twenty four dollars"...I kept saying I wanted to pay for mine first. Damn, did I need to tell her I was giving my friend extra money she needed? Needless to say, we paid and enjoyed our dinner at home. Also, the same way Spanish people make a way to communicate the best that they can, then so can you. To the people that don't speak Spanish, it doesn't take much besides saying the word of the food you want and pointing at it. They are serving it in front you so you can make sure you are getting the right food. I've seen plenty of non-Spanish people buying food here with no problem. ******CASH ONLY*******

Second time I ordered from this place and they only send me the juice of the beans and the man that picked up said that's not his problem that they didn't have no more beans how u charge me twice for beans and send me juice and they so fucking rude I will never order again from this shit hole place

My boy told me about this place, he said the food was great. But when i went to try it out the chicken was over cooked, dry it was hard, the rice and beans wasn't up too par. It wasn't for me.

The food here is great. Lived in the area for 10 years and I've never had a bad meal here. We use Rico pollo to cater many of our events and our guest are always raving about the food.

Tender, juicy and just like home. As I ache in the pits of my stomach for the home cooked food of my long lost abuelita, I can follow my acute senses for an entire plate of perfectly cooked arroz con pollo for under seven bucks, and in moments I am a child back in the seat of a retro kitchen and I can hear my abuela talking loudly at the television. This food is the realist of deals.

It's been a while since I ordered from this place, but I was surprised that this time the delivery service was fast and more efficient I'm glad and happy for them .

Delicious and extremely flavorful food, not to mention huge portions! After years of walking by Rico Pollo and taking in the wondrous smells and gawking at the line that snakes around half of the restaurant, we finally decided to give it a try. On a rainy afternoon, we had to wait in line for nearly 30 minutes, but it was definitely worth it! We ordered the stewed chicken with yellow rice, roasted pork, beef and plantains. The portions were HUMUNGOUS. The small portion of roasted pork ($5) was enough meat for at least two meals. THIS WAS A SMALL. Everything was so good, nothing too salty. They also have chicken noodle soup and I can't wait to try it. They're cash only and the dining area is pretty small, so be prepared to take your food on the road. Also, yes the service is a little bit slow and spotty, but the quality, portions and cheap prices definitely make up for it! What are you waiting for? This is probably the best Spanish food in all of Ridgewood, so get over there!

The portions are huge and the food is so so soooo good. Really dig this spot. Seating is difficult if you want to dine In with more than two people so I recommend getting it to go.

Such cheap Spanish food. The staff here speaks English so you'll have no trouble ordering! The food here is GOOOD, fresh, and cheap. There is no parking lot but they have street parking. I came on a Sunday so it wasn't hard to find parking. But the area is crowded so parking MAYYYY be hard in the week but it is super cheap and tastes amazing

Delicious! Affordable! That's all you need, now go grab lunch! Or dinner! Or breakfast! The food is simple and all there for display so if you've never heard of it or have no idea what it is, you can just look it and drool. The servers are very nice and patient, our server exchanged rice for us because we wanted yellow rice not white. I ordered the beef with peppers/onions and beef stew, both were delicious. All together with the tender rice and creamy beans, it was perfection. Also the portion sizes are no joke, be prepared for a real meal.

One of the real neighborhood O.G Spanish food places on in Ridgewood. There's a reason why it's been around for so long. The smell of the guiso and meats lingers right outside their doors. It's great Spanish food plain and simple.
