The Best New Cocktail Bars in the San Francisco Bay Area | Eater SF

"San Francisco’s first women’s sports bar touched down in early June, and already the space is filling with fans eager to catch the latest Golden State Valkyries game. There are playful signature cocktails on offer, such as The J.A.M., which pairs pineapple and strawberry gin with peanut butter and dry vermouth, or go with a favorite off the classics list, a beer, or a glass of wine to quench your thirst. Expect standard bar fare such as smash burgers and fish and chips (but there are also salads and a quinoa bowl, for the vegetarians, so they shouldn’t feel out of luck with food)." - Dianne de Guzman

Horn Barbecue: Pitmaster Matt Horn Heads to Sacramento’s Elk Grove | Eater SF

"A new sports bar centered on women’s sports is slated to open in the Castro this upcoming May, taking over the restaurant space left behind by the shuttered Copas at 2223 Market Street and led by business partners Sara Yergovich and Danielle Thoe. The bar is named for San Francisco’s Elizabeth "Rikki" Streicher, a local lesbian activist, bar owner, and co-founder of the Federation of Gay Games, and "is believed to mark the first return of a lesbian-themed bar in the LGBTQ neighborhood in decades," BAR reports." - Dianne de Guzman

Google
Really nice set up for a sports bar. They have some memorabilia from area soccer teams as well as Golden State Valkyries. Order your drinks at the bar and food orders on the back counter. Everything was very clean and the food delivered hot and fresh. We had the Beet burger and the smash burger. Also sampled the spiced carrots with whipped feta. Everything was good! All the televisions were on with an assortment of sports games but the main attraction is women’s sports.

Excited this is finally open! We went opening weekend and the place was packed. It was the first time they were playing the Golden State Valkyries game, and you can feel the excitement. The energy was incredible. Definitely come early to snag a table! We loved the beers on tap, especially the “Gay Crush” by Local Brewing Co. It was fresh, fruity and delicious. You order food from the back, and we were really impressed by the menu. The pear grilled cheese was incredible, and we heard the fried chicken sandwich is not to be missed. I can’t wait to watch more games here!

Google
Rikki’s is the best women’s sports themed bar I’ve visited yet - currently on a women’s sports themed vacation along the west coast. There was lots of cool decor ranging the history of women’s sports and an ode to the namesake on one wall. People were gathering in large groups, going on early dates, working on laptops - the whole range of activities that might occur in such a place. Place was packed at 4pm on a Wednesday. smash burger and fries was delicious and there were plenty of screens to watch the WNBA match on. The bar was very busy and understaffed, but I’m assuming since it’s new they are figuring out their staffing needs and meeting the what seems to be huge demand. It’s really well located in the Castro which makes for a nice walk before or after if you’re in town as a tourist.

Rikki’s Sports Bar — A Game-Changer for Women’s Sports Fans Today we got a sneak peek at Rikki’s Sports Bar, and let us just say—it slaps. Finally, a sports bar that puts women’s sports front and center, while still keeping all your other favorite games in rotation. The vibe? Electric but welcoming. Think: stylish sports lounge meets community hangout. TVs line the walls streaming everything from local matchups to must-see national games, with a special spotlight on women’s sports. The food is next-level: no greasy baskets here. Plates. Real plates. With elevated bar fare that actually tastes like someone cared. We had a double-patty burger with a little kick—juicy, bold, and flavorful. The fries? Absolute perfection. Crispy, golden, addictive. And the drinks? As colorful as the crowd. The bar was shaking up an array of cocktails—each one unique, vibrant, and Instagram-worthy. Rikki’s isn’t just another sports bar—it’s a celebration of women’s sports, great food, and inclusive community. We’ll be back. You should too.

Google
Best Mac and Cheese of my life. Service was super fast even if the place was packed. Great atmosphere watching the game, go Valkyries!

Google
So happy this place is here! Great first visit during Pride Saturday without a local game on. Was expecting it slammed and got right in. Loved the cocktails

Google
One of the best sports bars I’ve been to in SF! Lots of TVs, they post what games they’re gonna play ahead of time, and the vibes are great for watching games or hanging out. The staff is awesome, super friendly. They can make pretty much any cocktail for you and their food is spectacular. Also their restrooms are clean! 10/10 on all fronts, we’ll be back to watch more soccer!

Google
Excellent food, drinks and service. I am excited to check out all the good stuff they have on their menus.

Yelp
Great for a social outing whether you want to watch the game or just meet with friends. The menu is full of delicious options and includes fantastic non alcoholic options as well as great signature cocktails.

Yelp
Rikki's is a very welcome addition to the Castro and the city in general. I'm not really a fan of (US) sports but love the atmosphere here. The crowd is fun, staff are super friendly and welcoming, food and drinks are excellent. I won't elaborate on the reasons here but to me it's infinitely better than Hi Tops, another sports bar situated a few doors away.

Yelp
I love that it's here and I'm rooting for it. But I have concerns and a few changes will go a LONG way. Ambiance: I appreciate that it doesn't have the victim vibe like, say, Jolene's. AKA, no huge pink neon light saying YOU ARE SAFE HERE. Refreshing. It's clearly a lesbian theme and that's great, there's a little bit of the "you belong here" thing going on but it isn't heavy handed. But the room set up doesn't allow for flow. It feels really crowded even when there's no one in there. The huge pillar in the center takes up a ton of room and is polarizing, you can't really get a good view of the place from most angles, and it's really uncomfortable and awkward to sit at the bar - which as far as I'm concerned - is key for a successful operation. Bar: The bartenders are...slow. Unbelievably slow. It takes forever for them to make a drink, they're way too small for what they charge, and the weird payment system with the handheld thing only takes more time. They're also not super friendly. Not necessarily rude, but not friendly. Quiet. They don't make you feel welcome. They don't engage. And to be honest looking a little more groomed wouldn't hurt. Considering how weird the place is set up and the bar being kind of unwelcoming, it would be great to have someone waiting on the tables. Assuming of course they're friendly and outgoing and move faster than a snail's pace. And lastly, the food. It's not that good. I hate to compare it to Hi Tops but they really know how to put a menu together. Rikki's needs more variety and more of a bar food vibe. Get some nachos, a decent beyond burger (the beet thing isn't working), the chicken Sammy is ok but - roasted cabbage with whipped tofu? What are you thinking? I love having a lesbian "space" but you gotta step it up. Better service and better food and you'll be ok.

Yelp
Food was fabulous. We had an order of cheese fries. Nacho average cheese fries, sort of la beer batter. So good we ended up getting a second. We also enjoyed the Buffalo wings, potato croquettes and quinoa bowl. Relatively small portions in comparison to chain restaurants. Honesty what a change of pace for good. My one con here would be the lack of signage, next to entrance door there was a high top table with some papers on it. We assumed it was a hostess stand, we stood we waited... it's a seat yourself type situation. On each table was one menu, and a QR code to their website and story. Choose your food options and head to the far back counter to order. Love the open kitchen behind the counter. They'll give you a number and bring it out to your table. Drinks can then be ordered at the bar. Bartenders and drinks were perfection, chef's kiss.

Yelp
2223 used to be my favorite eatery in the Castro as I lick my lips fondly recalling their roast chicken tower. That was quite a few years ago, and this was the first time I had returned. With the newly minted Golden State Valkyries gaining momentum, the new owners have turned this space into a bar dedicated to women's sports, an underserved segment and a yin-yang complement to the Castro's other sports bar, Hi-Tops (review: https://yelp.to/MqZEOEpQgs). I was curious about this queer-women-owned spot and came right when they opened at 3:30PM on a Wednesday. It was quite an expansive place, and I could easily see how it could fill up on game days. I just wanted a drink and a munch since the bar bites and signature cocktails menu looked tantalizing. I ordered the $16 J.A.M., quite a potent concoction with pineapple and strawberry gin, dry vermouth, and a surprise touch, peanut butter (Photo 10). It was honestly a bit too harsh to allow me full enjoyment, but I appreciated the $15 Pear Grilled Cheese, which reminded me of the similar Fuji Apple Melt at Danville Brewing Company (review: https://yelp.to/8cGVTKwlv7). It wasn't as satisfying a sandwich, but this one added caramelized onions, fontina, gouda, and gruyere, all of it encased in toasted sourdough (Photo 9). A return visit is likely in order, hopefully during a Valkyries game. COCKTAIL / FOOD - 4 stars...mixology needs a bit of work but the bar bites show promise AMBIANCE - 5 stars...spacious SERVICE - 4 stars...pretty attentive TOTAL - 4 stars...looking forward to the vibe this will create during the games RELATED - Exploring the Castro? Yelp
This place is full of potential, it's an audacious launch of a sports bar focused on women's sports, in the spirit of Portland's groundbreaking The Sports Bra. Good vibe, decent cocktails and food offerings, but still kind of in its soft launch phase. I went for the USWNT match and it was a rush to have the game on all the screens, and when the US scored, a big whoop went up in the whole bar. Pretty awesome. The service is minimal - no one waits tables and you have to order drinks at the bar and food at a counter in the back. My biggest note is that, while the bar was full for the USWNT game, was anyone watching? So many tables chatting, people wearing US jerseys do represent but I don't think people were really paying much attention. If there's a match I really want to watch I'd probably stay home for this reason.

Yelp
Came to Rikki's on opening week and we were so excited to get in! Heard there were lines out the door, but we got in with no issue and found a table easily a little after 6pm. Drinks took a while, and bartenders seemed to be working out kinks with taking orders, but overall the cocktails were inventive and delicious. Food orders were placed at a separate counter in the back. The menu featured a great assortment of flavorful, elevated bar food. We ordered the roasted cabbage, spiced carrots and cheese fries. Never thought a plate of cabbage would be so satisfying but sauces and seasonings really made every dish stand out! The vibe was amazing - Rikki's was filled with a great crowd all excited to celebrate SF's new female sports bar. Definitely looking forward to coming back to try out more signature cocktails and dishes!

Yelp
We came to Rikki's for a Bay FC watch party and the vibes were immaculate. There were plenty of tables, seats, and TVs even with an event going on. The staff were SO friendly and helpful throughout! Food was understandably a little slow, but bar service was quick. The pear grilled cheese was stellar! The chicken wings were pretty good although not something I would necessarily order again. I was surprised by how strong the J.A.M. cocktail was; the flavor was like a PB&J but the alcohol taste was too much for my personal preference. Overall this is a wonderful spot to catch a game and I will definitely be back!

Yelp
We came here for Pride just after Dyke March, and the crowd was fantastic but the food was terrible. We got the cheese fries and chicken wings and the sauce for both was literally watery. But then we came back last week for the Valkryies game and the food and drink were both outstanding! We got the fish and chips and the fry was crisp and perfect. The dish came out super hot! The mashed peas were also heavenly and like a cloud with good herb flavor. The place had plenty people in it but not too crowded. My drink was served in an elegant cup which I appreciated. There was a line out the door to get in, but it was the checking of the ID that caused a back up. The crowd is all dykes both cisgender and trans, except for a handful of gay boys and one straight couple. Definitely a place we'll return to for the fish and chips, the cocktails, and the crowd!

Yelp
Great idea, decor and food. One of the female bartenders could be a bit friendlier??

Yelp
The energy was unbelievable!!! People were giddy with excitement and everyone was so stoked- huge smiles all around! The N/A menu was fun and interesting. Pear grilled cheese was phenomenal and chicken sando was worth every penny. There is a small, cozy living room area, bar stools with backs and then restaurant tables. Gets loud when full, but it's a sports bar!

Yelp
Chela and Jessica makes the best drinks! Good times, great laughs, and a memorable Saturday night. You want the real SF come here ;)

Yelp
I had the best experience with chela as my bartender. they made me the best drinks i have ever had. super sweet and welcoming experience. will come back when chela and jessica are working!

Yelp
Great sports bar in the Castro to watch women's sports...now I catch the occasional game of most any sport but having had a hard time to watch a major event like the Women's World Cup, it's good to know there's a lock. The food here is ordered in the back and it's basic bar/pub fare. Nothing to rave about but did the job. Drinks are ordered at the bar and the staff there were friendly and are making both new creations and classic staples. I wasn't here on a game day so it was kinda empty which was also nice for a chill day. I hope they post a website or on insta when women games are happening so I can plan to drop in...but for now I didn't see any schedule or listing advertised inside. Overall, I can see Rikki's great for games or just to pop in on a lazy Sunday.

Yelp
This was my first Lesbian sports bar and I loved it! Went for a drink with some friends on a random Thursday night and it was packed (but in a good way). We got a table for four and were able to talk, hang out, and watch the games that were on that night. Experience was really great! I loved being surrounded by people that were not men at a sports bar haha. I will say people weren't super into the game but I feel like if bigger games were on, it would've been different. Anyway really enjoyed my time there and will be returning.
google avatar

Marcy H.

Yelp
Food table side service limited to drop off of food. All drinks are ordered at the bar. A cool spot to grab an after work drink without staff interrupting your convos.
google avatar

Jules K.

Yelp
Great vibes!! Came before the crowd will arrive for the Valkyries game but that's ok. Great vibes and friendly staff! Hope they come up with merch soon
google avatar

Tasha D.

Yelp
Great Beet burger and wings. Had a great time on opening night. The atmosphere was welcoming and fun. Lots of televisions to watch your favorite game. I will definitely return.
google avatar

Josie C.

Yelp
I co-hosted an event here and it was awesome! Great drinks, food, and service. The owners are very friendly and supportive. Located in the Castro it's easy to get to via public transit and walking. I will definitely be back and bring more friends to catch a Valkyries game soon!
google avatar

Marisa H.

Yelp
We love women's sports! However, there are some things that would make the experience better. If you're advertised as a sports bar, be engaged in the women's games that are playing; i.e playing the games ON time, playing the actual sound from the game, or if not, play music! The bartenders were slow and did not make good drinks. The food.... The aioli on the burger was only there to compensate for the lack of flavor, the fish n chips batter was not seasoned and lacked acidity. We did come during opening week, so writing this review in hopes that they continue to improve their service.
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Find me here every day!!! It's beautiful inside, tons of tvs, big open bar area on one side with plenty of seating options on the other. Tried a couple of drinks and the smash burger, everything was incredible
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
I'm happy there is a dedicated women focused bar in the Castro finally. The wait for drinks was adequate given the crowd (it's great that it was packed house), bartenders did the best they can. My feedback is on the food. We ordered the fries which weren't fried well enough and not crunchy. The Caesar salad was soaked in dressing and chicken on it was dried. I hope they can improve upon the food.

Matthew E.

Yelp
I've never updated a review before and I sincerely hope the owners take the following feedback knowing that I truly wish nothing but success for Rikki's. Upon my last visit on a Saturday afternoon, I had an entirely different experience than my previous one. The only bartender was so overworked and alone, that when he left to replace a keg, someone was helping him take orders but couldn't make the cocktails so he had a queue of drinks to make when he finished. But also people ordering beers had to wait for the keg replacement too. The POS system y'all use does not work for bartenders. The tiny screen is not conducive to quick and efficient bar tabs. They need a big screen with quick item selections. I witnessed the person helping behind the bar struggle to find a means to input for an Aperol spritz and find beers y'all have on tap in the system. The draft beers should take 3 seconds to input, they're out on display and often ordered. The table numbers for food are quite literally 2" big and the same colors as the color scheme of the bar. The food runner did at least 2 laps around the space each time they brought out food. Including walking by our table multiple times, unable to see the teeny numbers. I will standby the fact that the smash burger is the best GD smash burger I've ever had, even when it was cold from waiting in a (no exaggeration) 20-minute line for a single beer.
google avatar

K S.

Yelp
If it's supposed to be a sports bar, I expect to have the sound up (or at least captions on) for major games. Didn't eat, but the drinks were good and original. Decent crowd for a Tuesday night, mostly women. Nice to have a space for women, but I wouldn't call it a sports bar despite a couple of jerseys on the wall.

Mani V.

Yelp
Very unfriendly! My friend and I arrived at their bar and despite 5 people at the bar and the restaurant working with only two customers, we were completely ignored and made us both feel extremely unwelcome. We decided to seat ourselves anyway and waited ten minutes. They completely ignored us and no one came to check on us and ask for our order. We are locals and wanted to support them given that they are a new business in our community. But definitely the last time that we will ever go there again as there are so many worthy businesses in our community thar are welcoming and worthy of our business.

Elena O.

Yelp
Awesome addition to the neighborhood. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, yummy food and drinks. Danielle and Sara and their entire team are honoring Rikki in style. Thank you for all your hard work.

Shelly B.

Yelp
Amazing, dedicated staff and ownership. Classy sports joint where everyone is welcome! Eat, cheer and drink here!

Yelp
Amazing craft cocktails! Loved the Iron Maiden. Cool vibe. Was super impressed. I would come here regardless of whether there was a game on

TJ H.

Yelp
Overpriced drinks. This place need to keep it in check with their competitors and provide reasonable priced drinks
