Rincon Argentino
Rincon Argentino is a little nondescript market on a busy street that is easily missed, but try and check it out the next time you're in Glendale. The little market has barely two tiny aisles packed with treats and snacks from Argentina and South America. Make a beeline for the counter and order a steak sandwich or grab some empanadas and pastries.
Food:
There are a wealth of empanada options, so you can come back often:
- Carne/Beef
- Humita/Corn
- Pollo/Chicken
- Queso/Cheese
- Espinaca/Spinach
- Jamon y Queso/Ham and Cheese
This time I picked up a box of beef and ham & cheese empanadas. The beef empanadas have juicy ground beef with spices, chopped up hard boiled eggs, onions, and olives. Sweet, salty, and tart flavors mix together inside the dough pocket. The ham and cheese empanadas contain ham, mozzarella, onion, eggs, and spices. The crust is nicely baked, but they definitely would be better if they were deep fried like they are in Buenos Aires. Also, remember to buy chimchurri sauce because it's not included.
The alfajores are soft and crumbly, filled with golden dulce de leche (caramel).
Parking:
There is lots of easy street parking on the northwest corner of Colorado and Verdugo.
