15 Gluten-Free, Vegan-Friendly Bakeries in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Open since 2013, Ring’s bakers create Japanese-style baked tofu doughnuts with rice flour, non-GMO soy milk, and organic yogurts, milks, and butter in flavors like matcha, honey, or Earl Grey. The small, kitschy shop has plenty of Japanese anime Easter eggs inside, as well as a few stools and front patio tables for people who want to eat their doughnuts on site. The Canoga Park shop’s doughnuts are easy to freeze and reheat well in a microwave, if you prefer to take them to go." - Nicole Adlman

Tasty offerings. I was apprehensive at first when my niece absolutely insisted we visit. I should listen to her more often. The shop is small, but clean. While it includes some cute merch and a fun area to draw, the shop is a very small area and more suited for take-away orders. I was pleasantly surprised at the taste and texture of the donuts. They are lightly sweet and carry a cakelike texture...and easy to scarf down with a coffee or tea. Stop by and enjoy a treat...bonus...they are affordable!

Google
The donuts are more cakey than traditional donut, similar to a muffin? They are tastyn Their matcha cold brew is usually what I come for. Not too sweet & a good strong matcha flavor! Just look at that shade of green!! You can adjust sweetness too. Staff has always been kind :)

Google
This is the kind of shop that you would fall in love by just walking in. The small shop boasts cute and authentic small toys imported from Japan. After the first sip, you know that the matcha and the coffee are made with a strong passion for quality and service. The donuts are of course unique in their own right.

Eva Komarkova

Google
Very fluffy and soft, baked almost like a cake donuts. I loved the banana vegan one but the chocolate is good too. Cute shop

Google
I used to come here frequently before I moved. The owners are so sweet and patient as I choose the flavors of donuts--so many good and unique choices--ube, red bean, green tea, and honey are my favorite, but I've never had on I don't like. What I love about the donuts is that they're small and light on sweetness so you never feel guilty eating multiple and you don't crash like with a fried/cake donut. They're more of a donut alternative than a traditional donut.

Google
These baked tofu donuts were really interesting - they almost reminded me of French Madeline's. There is a great selection of flavors to choose from, including seasonal ones. The matcha donut was a little bitter. The cheesecake had a very subtle taste of cheesecake. The pumpkin had a great pumpkin spice flavor. The chocolate chip was simple and probably my favorite of the four. I would try them again!

Google
i had never tried tofu donut until today and let me say, i am pleasantly surprised! they come in lovely little packages which makes the experience so much more delightful. i had the earl gray and matcha variety and they were both spectacular! please come here!

Google
AMAZING!! I came for the first time and was IMPRESSED with the tofu donuts! They were super tasty and honestly addicting! The store is cutely decorated and the woman and man who were there were very kind, patient, and helpful! Highly recommend if you are looking for a healthier, but still yummy, donut!

Liz H.

Yelp
Amazing Donuts!! I absolutely adore the rum raisin flavor Juliette and Gerri the owners provide exceptional customer service! Highly recommend!

Jimmy T.

Yelp
Best donut shop in Los Angeles. The staff there, Juliet, Gabby, & Gerri are the amazing people who are serving the community around them. Their donut selection is always rotating with new and exciting flavors and their salted iced coffee is a must. Their matcha iced tea is also out of this world. You will always feel at home when you enter Ring - Baked Tofu Donuts. Followed by the aroma from the baked tofu donuts and creamy coffee! Amazing donuts, coffee, & people!

Yelp
Incredible spot, the owners and staff are so outgoing and kind. There's nothing like the donuts here they're absolutely incredible and one of a kind. Great place to hang with some friends and grab a coffee and snack. Could not recommend more!

Yelp
I LOVE Ring, got put on by friends over a year ago and have not stopped coming in. The owners are super sweet and the matcha is the best & strongest I've had in the valley. It's a small shop really close to the Topanga Mall but still has seating outside to sit and chill at. Love their tofu donuts as well :))

Yelp
There are a few businesses that I have reviewed over the years that are so extremely special. Ring Baked Tofu Donuts (RBTD) is certainly one of these. It isn't just the donuts and the drinks (OMG! Those drinks!!!). It was never just that. It was a combination of the owners, how cute and homey the decor was, the quality of their locally sourced ingrediants, etc, etc, etc. It's just a stellar place. And what's the scariest part of a business like this? Yes, you're right, when it changes ownership. When this occurred we were honestly not so in a rush to see how things would change. I'm more than a little embarrassed to say that it has taken this long to stop by but today was the day. I needed a place to meet a friend so neither one of us had to drive so far and RBTD was the perfect location. I'm so happy to say that from the moment I opened the door, I knew I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Juliette and her mom Jerri couldn't have been more accommodating and delightful. The donuts and the amazing drinks were not only the same but possibly even a little better. It's a little difficult to improve upon perfection, so I'm not absolutely sure. There were even a few new additions to the lineup to make things interesting. The orange and chocolate is a new personal favorite and the expanded vegan options really pleased my friend. The Sea Salt Iced Coffee, as usual, disappeared before I knew what happened. Every time I tell myself that I'm going to slow down and savor it but t's impossible, it's just that good. My friend also inhaled his Sea Salt Matcha with oat milk. The donuts were just as tasty and moist with the perfect sweetness as always. Please go try RBTD. If you haven't, you're really missing something special. Please excuse the length of this review. It was partly a letter of apology. I should have known better that Aya and Mitsu wouldn't have turned their ultra unique creation over to anyone who wasn't 100% worthy. Thank you Juliette and Jerri for your dedication and passion:)

Yelp
This store is so cute and had lots of pikachu decor around! Service was quick and efficient. Their sea salt matcha drink is yummy! The color is amazing and matcha has a light mellow note, perfect for beginners. If you are looking for a nutty or umami note, this isnt it, but if you enjoy lighter everyday matcha this will satisfy you! I also tried their ube donut and it was so delicious. It is moist and kind of reminds me of a denser donut, spongy, but more healthy since it is baked and not fried! I love the concept and will definitely be back go try more flavors!
google avatar

Joann K.

Yelp
Really good service and delicious donuts. Lots of street parking. Definitely worth the drive. I got alot of different flavors but my favorite was the ube and chocolate so far. Their donuts are very moist and not too sweet. Never new that gluten free donuts can be this good. I also got a decafe sea salt cream coffee, which i didnt like, it was smoky and bitter. I'll try their matcha next time!

Yelp
Hadn't been in a long while and the need for office treats arose. Called in to check availability and then took myself over on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Was able to quickly scoop up a couple dozen before their day off next day. Though new faces behind the counter, the shop is still the welcoming space it was made into with tributes to the creators. The new owner and operator crafting the donuts is a friendly and professional. And the donuts are as great as I remember, maybe even. better. Tried the new regular banana donut and then a limited Thai Tea donut. Will make sure to drop in more often on that side of the valley for matcha or coffee.

Yelp
Vegan tofu donuts? Had to try this ... Such a cute, and very clean, welcoming interior. Lovely staff. Really appreciate that each of the donut options are displayed. The order: a mix of matcha lemonade and yuzu lemonade. Genius combo - bright flavor and so refreshing! We tried two donuts: honey and the special of the day, which was pandan. Small (but honestly, just the perfect size) and very moist. The honey is a light flavor. The oandan is bright green and vanilla aroma. With our loyalty stamp card, we got four large drinks and two donuts for $21. I do t know how they do this, but the quality and service keep us coming back every time we're in the area!

Yelp
A nice hidden gem! The really liked there Ube donut. Their iced matcha with salted foam was really good. The lady taking the orders recommended their popular donut flavors which was a great choice after trying. The spot is small but nice. The decor was nice and had a lot of Amie items for sale.
google avatar

Melissa O.

Yelp
Still love this spot- their donuts and drinks are so good. Today I ordered a sea salt cream iced coffee and it was delish! Also got a box to take home, my son loves these tofu donuts Service is always excellent. I need to remember to come here more often :)

Yelp
was in the area looking for a cafe nearby and stumbled upon this spot! tofu donuts piqued my interest and I had to give them a try! I didn't see that they had garage parking on yelp but I also wasnt able to find a parking garage so I parked a bit further down the street maybe a block away. upon entering, I thought the shop was small but filled with lots of cute unique decor! a worker came out to take our order and she seemed super sweet! my friend and I ordered the sea salt matcha and a donut for each of us sea salt green tea matcha - honestly better than I expected, but not as high quality as it would be from a more matcha-centered cafe. it was decent and the sea salt cream was a nice addition to the drink! matcha green tea donut - had a good green tea smell but the taste wasnt that great imo. it had a bit of a funk to it that I wasn't a huge fan of. texture was great though! ube donut - this really blew me away! when I first opened the package, the smell instantly caught my attention and I had a feeling it'd be good. the flavor was there and it didn't taste artificial or bland like many other ube items I've had. like the other tofu donut, it was extremely moist and had a good bite to it. these donuts aren't as light and fluffy as regular ones; they're more like a dense cupcake/cake texture that you can bite through. I did think they were a bit on the smaller side but since they're so dense, they do feel heavier. prices were p reasonable and I liked that they included the ingredients on the menu (see pic). would def come back to try their other flavors and snag more ube donuts!

Pattarin K.

Yelp
I've been coming to Ring for years now, and it never disappoints. I got their sea salt matcha for the first time and the matcha had a nice dark green color! As a note to anybody that orders the same thing, the color and flavor do come out a bit lighter once you shake it with the cream. At $5, though, the value is probably one of the best in the valley! It also wasn't too sweet, which is an added bonus in my book.

Yelp
I grew up in the valley and I love donuts. So I would pass by this spot all the time! And when I saw they had donuts I put it on my bucket list but just never stopped by. Big part was because of the location. It's really tucked in and not very marketed. But finally I got to stop by after years of passing by. I went on a Saturday afternoon and parking was very simple. Same parking lot as the building and you don't have to pay. It looks like it at a glance but you just go in and parking was empty. Most likely because it's the weekend and no one's working at this building and again, the coffee shop is tucked in so not many people know about it. You have to enter through their entrance not the lobby entrance because it's locked. On to the food, I got a matcha tofu donut, one of their popular ones. Loved the texture, not dry or too cakey just nice and smooth. Taste was good not too sweet. The donuts are pretty small for $3 so just fyi. I got their popular sea salt cream iced matcha tea and it's refreshing but not sweet at all. Their small is a 16 oz so that's nice. I paid $8 total for the matcha tea and matcha donut and I was satisfied! Considering there's 16oz coffees now up to $9 now. I'll come back and stop by to try more of their donuts and drinks and most likely on the weekend because I have a feeling parking is packed during the work week. Really cute inside to hang out however there is no WiFi.
google avatar

Meena N.

Yelp
Cute mom and pop store. Service was friendly. I've never had a tofu donut so I was quite excited to try it. The texture and consistency was pretty good. I got the Honey, Choc chip and Ube. I liked the last two best. Got the iced coffee as well and it

Yelp
My cousins and I have been coming here for almost 10 years and I can't believe it took me this long to write a review. The first thing I have to mention is when you first walk in, the store is super cute and very well decorated with a lot of Japanese-inspired animated films. Also, I'd like to mention that the customer service is above and beyond. I absolutely adore the owners of this place-they are both so incredibly sweet. About their menu items, my favorite has always been their sea salt coffee. It's the MOST perfect coffee in the valley. My cousins love their matcha and said no one else can make matcha as good as Ring does. As for donuts, my favorite ones are the chocolate chip one and Earl Gray. It's even better if you heat it up for 10 seconds in the microwave and eat it warm. The photos I posted were from 2016 :) I highly recommend trying this place!
google avatar

Elisa G.

Yelp
I am completely obsessed with Ring and wish that they had one in Orange County! My friend sent me a dozen and it was delivered to my mailbox carefully! It was packaged extremely well so you don't have to worry about any of them crumbling. I love the matcha and the honey donuts and they are gluten-free which is so cool. You can put them in the toaster and they give you instructions on how to care for your precious donuts I just hope they're not 5000 cal each.
google avatar

Hannah L.

Yelp
Hole in the wall mom and pop shop with the sweet Japanese couple heading the shop :) (and they allow dogs inside!) If it weren't for the name of the place, I would have no idea the donuts are made from tofu. They are definitely denser than your regular donut but the flavors here are elite. They have it down in a way where the flavors aren't too overpowering, but it tastes just like how you would expect it to. I don't come here too often, but when I do, I get 3-4 donuts at a time LOL. Given their ingredients, it is a little pricier than your regular donut but it is 100% worth it!!

Yelp
Today i was introduced to Tofu doughnuts! I went in skeptical but left extremely impressed. I bought a half dozen variety and went to my car to leave. I ate the chocolate chip banana doughnut and immediately returned and bought two more gift packs!!! One for me and one to share with my family. The owner is absolutely amazing for her knowledge of the product. She is a good sales person. This is a family owned business and I love to support family business. To all my Yelp followers please go and enjoy!!

Yelp
Lovely, lovely staff! Always so sweet! The donuts are yummy and the matcha, top favorite!

Yelp
Ring donuts are the only donuts I eat. The owners are amazing and always so helpful. I have tried all the donuts they offer and their ice coffee. Amazing all around.

Almarosa E.

Yelp
These donuts are truly so amazing and delicious. They're the perfect balance in between a healthy snack and flavorful. The first one I had to try was the matcha one and it was a 10/10. I'd recommend and I'm not even into Tofu.

Enzo W.

Yelp
Most delectable dough on da block !! also some of the best service & hospo in LA, lots of of charm in this shop
google avatar

Dharma R.

Yelp
Ring has really leveled up with their vegan options adding four new delicious flavors! They are light moist and delicious!

Natalia L.

Yelp
The customer service, atmosphere, and donuts were all amazing! I wasn't expecting the donuts to be so delicate, intentionally flavored, and clean-tasting. From their website, I learned how much the RING cares about the quality, texture, and experience of their donuts. They list ingredients and the reasons for incorporating things like tofu in their donuts. I really appreciate the care that goes into these donuts. These are the types of business I love supporting and I would definitely come here again!
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
Adding to my review, that it's also right across the street from Topanga mall, so whenever I'm in the area, it's a must to stop by. Drinks are also sooo yummy. Only place that has best sea salt coffee, my fav.
google avatar

Tess l.

Yelp
I still love this place I love their organic matcha too! Today I had the salted caramel signature, iced coffee, so good not too sweet perfect amount of salt! Creamy too! I got the chocolate chip tofu, doughnut, and the lavender one. They both have just the right amount of flavor. I love the little things they have for sale too ! Quick reviews just for you
google avatar

Jasmine R.

Yelp
The only donuts I eat. The consistency is perfect and they care about the ingredients they use. My wife and I drive from Riverside every now and then just to grab 2 dozen boxes for ourselves (we freeze 1) and 1 dozen to share with friends and family. Their sea salt iced coffee is also delicious. I'm a chocolate fanatic so the Double Chocolate will always be delicious but honestly Earl Grey is my favorite. Perfect to pair with hot coffee or tea. Tried every flavor and recently the mugwort, which is now one of my favorites as well!

Jay C.

Yelp
Aloha for Hawaii. Yes Hawai!i My family bought home these special treats (omiyage) They are yummy, great texture, great flavors, perfect size. Did you know the owners Mother is from Hawaii?

Yelp
Delicious. Lots of flavors- wish more were vegan though or gluten free! Love that it has protein in it. These mama a great gift !!!

Jesse P.

Yelp
The best place for an ice coffee & sweetest service.its a cute little shop ! Must. Try at least once
google avatar

Leonard M.

Yelp
A diamond in the rough! Totally new experience - to call them donuts is almost a misnomer. Think of them as round custom cakes! Lots of flavors to choose from. We tried several, and really liked the Ube and Vanilla Bean. Didn't order coffee but one regular said it is "amazing"! We did order the Yuzu lemonade which was delicious! New owner Juliette was a gracious host, answering all our first-timer questions with a smile. Place has a cool vibe with all of the Pikachu's. Check this place out, you wont be disappointed!

Joey Ann M.

Yelp
Still as good as ever! Really delicious and keep coming back for more. Here are some pics of our recent haul :)
google avatar

Brenda G.

Yelp
I tried this spot out yesterday and really enjoyed the service, donuts, and interior decorations! I ordered the Vegan Chocolate, Red Velvet, Strawberry Chocolate Chip, and Matcha Green Tea donuts, and I have to say, they were all really yummy! The soft consistency and flavor profiles of each one were super tasty, but I think the vegan chocolate and matcha green tea were my favorite. They're on the smaller side for $3.25 each, but I personally don't mind--2-3 donuts is perfect for satisfying a sweet tooth! If you're curious about this spot, I'd definitely recommend stopping by :-)

Antoine Buzad

Yelp
The best coffee and donut shop! You cannot go wrong with any of the donut flavors or drink options. I always change my order when I go and it hits every single time! The staff there is super friendly and sweet and the decor is really cute and lovely.

M. C.

Yelp
I'm strictly a black coffee drinker, but I make an exception for their Sea Salt Cream Ice Coffee - it's delicious, not too sweet and I look forward to this treat when I am in the area! Great vibes. Everything made from scratch onsite. Yum.

Mark M.

Yelp
Everything about this place is amazing. The vibe, the coffee, the matcha, the donuts, and everyone that works there is amazing.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
Unique donut shop with a super friendly staff. Probably one of the friendliest I've met. You'd never guess that there is tofu in these. The only indication that these are not your typical donuts is the texture. I'd describe it as spongy. No idea if these are considered healthier or not but they're definitely fun. My favorite flavors were the matcha and earl grey. I also love that they're not too big. Great size to help with any sweet cravings.
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Pros -friendly staff -amazing healthy donuts -delicious matcha sea foam Cons -street parking only but there's always spots

Tiffany L.

Yelp
I completely agree with Mai. It was a total disappointment. We ended up tossing the drinks. I feel sad for the new owner. She is very nice, but she needs to improve her craft.

Yelp
There's more to San Fernando's West Valley than commercial property, shopping centers, and Pierce College! Uncover some hidden gems in the unlikeliest of places, like on the way to your eye doctor's office for a routine exam. On the corner of Owensmouth Avenue and Vanowen Street, in the lobby of an inconspicuous offbuilding lives the sweetest and only Baked Tofu Donuts in Los Angeles - Ring Baked Tofu Donuts! Open Tuesday-Sunday, 8am-3pm. CLOSED Monday's. Food/Drinks: SWEET! Ring is all about bringing a FUN new Japanese style to America. According to Ring, their Japanese style baked tofu donuts are made by a highly skilled Japanese pastry chef using high-quality ingredients from all over the world. RING's baked tofu donuts are ALL gluten-free sweets and all of Ring's ingredients are GMO-free. For a in-depth look at Ring's ingredients visit their website. Biting into a Ring baked tofu donut is to taste one of the fluffiest, naturally sweet circular baked cakes ever to be called a donut - without all the gluttonous guilt. For starters, Ring donuts are significantly smaller than traditional deep fried American donuts. Think Krispy Kreme. A thinner, slightly smaller donut allows you enjoy its bold flavors without feeling full and disgusted with yourself. Skeptical? Sure, it's nothing like a traditional old fashioned, or glazed maple bar and more like a delicate, unfrosted cake ring! Ring signature donuts are $3.00, vegan options $3.25. Ring baked tofu donut flavors vary DAILY and include: matcha green tea, honey, red velvet, double chocolate, Earl Gray, chocolate chip, brown sugar, maple bacon, banana bread, banana chocolate chip, kumquat, cheese, ube, Vietnamese coffee, rose, rum raisin, lemon, Azuki (red bean), lavender, and soy sauce. Which is a reason alone to come back for!Ring says their donuts keep in a refrigerator for a whole week, or put them in a freezer for 30 days. For the ultimate sweet satisfaction Ring recommends warming up your donuts about 10 seconds in the microwave to rejuvenate their fluffyness. Ring Baked Tofu Donuts also specializes in hot/cold drinks, like their #1 selling signature Sea Salt Cream Iced Coffee ($4.25-5.25). Also available in matcha, mocha, and chocolate. Flip it, shake it, and enjoy it! Also try: matcha lemonade, Yuzu lemonade, and iced Calpico (a tasty creamy tropical treat w/ over 100 years of Japanese history!) My personal favorites are the kumquat and red velvet tofu donuts washed down w/ a small 16oz sea salt cream iced coffee. Service: On it! Expect to wait for your gift boxes and drinks to be prepared but being in a medical building traffic is light outside of the peak morning rush. Online orders are available for pickup in store. Gift boxes are available in dozen ($34.50) and half dozen ($17.50). For wholesale and franchise options visit website. Ambiance: CUTE! Ring's philosophy is, "that we will offer the rearranged Japanese style fun to American people." Stepping foot into Ring's kawaii little donut hole I'd say it's living up to the hype. How many Totoro's can you find? See the pics for yourself! On sunny days, the covered patio makes for an enjoyable sun spot to sip coffee and dunk tofu donuts. Thank you Ring Baked Tofu Donuts!

Jennifer N.

Yelp
These are so much more satisfying than regular donuts, with a nice consistency and great, not too sugary, flavor. I love the honey, the adzuki bean, the vanilla bean, and the kumquat. Basically, everything I've tried has been great. These freeze well and last in the fridge without spoiling the taste or texture. I also enjoyed the recommendation for a sea salt cream coffee, which was really good. Highly recommend Ring and can't wait until they ship!

M J.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! These donuts are light and fluffy and taste great. I also love the packaging!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
The best donuts in the valley. So glad it's going strong, love this place. Honey is the best!
google avatar

Tim T.

Yelp
This place is mind blowing. For those who haven't tried, you are in for a treat. Almost guilt free indulgence. Not too sweet, not greasy and always one of those things that the craving is almost as good as the real thing.
google avatar

Brian I.

Yelp
A taste of Osaka at this wonderful tofu donut shop in Woodland Hills. With its anime-inspired decor and inviting donuts (tofu!), and easy parking, it was fun just to be inside. Service was friendly and efficient. All types of donut flavors. Not your typical American donut (not huge, not smothered with sugary coatings). Something very different. Totemo oishii desu! We'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Quite possibly the most delicious donut you'll ever have. Spongy texture, moist, unique flavor combinations, delicate but distinct. They're great as a party gift and believe me once you start you'll have a hard time stopping lol. It's a little hole in the wall and it's such a random place to have a business. It's at the base of a building with no other businesses next door. Free parking in the back as well as on the street. Flavors I enjoy: the classics matcha, earl grey, yuzu, chocolate flavor ones, red velvet. Seasonal that are chefs kiss: azuki beans, rum raisin, charcoal, yuzu, etc. These are a fabulous replacement for a regular donut because they are tofu based and tofu (soy) has protein and they're a plant based protein. There's still sugar in these donuts BUT instead of having sugar on top of simple carbohydrates (white flour which basically is processed like white sugar [white sugar and white flour is a recipe for high blood glucose spikes and repeated glucose spikes lead to insulin resistance aka diabetes, also mood swings, acne, hormone imbalance and inflammation, can also cause heart complications etc]) So if you're going to grab a donut this would be, for me, the better option since it's a complex carbohydrate based donut. Even my husband said he would choose this over Krispy Kreme. I know KK is a different style donut, glazed and fried but Ring is just our choice. Ring is also baked versus fried.
google avatar

Crystal K.

Yelp
This business deserves a bit more love and attention. The donuts are always high quality and delicious, and I cannot believe it is made out of tofu! I love the iced sea salt coffee. Shake it up! The coffee is strong and it is the perfect amount of sweetness and saltiness. The inside is very cutely decorated with stuffed animals, Pokemon, and they even have a area of guests to draw and doodle. it is located next to a business building and near the Westfield Topanga mall. It is a bit hidden, but worth the visit.

Yelp
These donuts are amazing! Since I don't eat meat or eggs, finding restaurants/cafes, especially for desserts, can be very difficult. The vegan donuts were amazing!! These were given to me on my birthday. I will be trying again!!
