If I could put 0 starts I will. I came to buy some pastries and they kicked me out yelling because my service dog couldn’t be inside. I told them the law protected me that he should know about this. And he closed the door on my face. This was the owner. Rudest person I ever known. Save your time and don’t do business with these type of shady people

The croissants (medialunas) are very tasty. Everything is very tasty, las tortitas , sandwiches (sandwiches de miga), everything is delicious and fresh. Some things are a little pricey.But nothing too crazy Every time I am nearby, I have to stop at this bakery and take a little piece of Argentina home with me.

This is the closes bakery to what a Argentinian bakery should be. I am from Argentina and this took me back to my childhood. If you are really for sweet, well this is the place, also all sorts of food, empanadas, sandwiches de miga. But the pastry are out of this world, you must try this place, they also have a few tables just in case you want to try something right away

Very traditional Argentinian bakery. Pastries and cookies are loaded with dulce de leche. The prices are very good for New York. They also carry Argentinian candy. The staff speaks Spanish fluently and was very helpful.

As an Argentine, I have been eating Argentine pastries all my life. Was so happy to find this place years ago as my father was a patron for a long time. Used to be great , WHAT HAPPENED?? Purchased a dozen factura two days ago, in the morning early. They were awful, hard and dry a first for me at this place. Perhaps a bad day, or bad batch? Will try one more time and will update this review depending on what happens. Small bakery with an amazing assortment of Argentina sweets. I'd recommend medialuna dulce its lightly sweetened croissant perfect with a cafecito. This is such a cute cafe very homey. Any chance I get I stop in. Hope u enjoy

Found this spot decided to try. Sandwiches de miga were good, reminded me of childhood parties I would go to. The empanadas are ok, was looking for the round puff pastry type they didnt have. The mini loaf of bread was fresh and tasty. Will definately be back for cake and hopefully they have the beef empanadas.

This is not the same place I remember going to. The sandwiches de miga were so dry and flavorless. For $79 2 dozen ham and cheese and mixtas were very disappointing. The empanadas tasted blah. There's no reason for me to come back here again. Everything just tasted either old or they switched to cheaper ingredients which resulted in the quality they once had.

the pastries are delicous, a bit too expensive and you cannot see the cash register when they are ringing it, they can charge you whatever they want or make a mistake and you wont even know, because when you ask for the price they get an atittude.

Not sure how I missed reviewing my favorite childhood coffee shop. They are a carb fiend's heaven. They offer an assortment of Latin American pastries, empanadas, finger sandwiches and even pasta in the freezer case. Staff is always friendly and fast. This is a very small space with about 3 tables so don't count on eating in since they are usually packed. Tip: If you decide to visit you may want to visit one of the other restaurants on the block that serve amazing entraña (skirt steak) sandwiches with chimichurri sauce. Also, bring the cash! Not all places take credit.

Went back to the old neighborhood & found this bakery....again. Still delicious after all these years. Pantries are fresh and good selection.

I've been going to Rio De La Plata since I was a young kid. A wholesome spot to get all types of argentine pastries. Argentine owned and you can tell by the authentic flavor that is unmistakable. Some of my favorites include their medialunas, flan, and sandwiches de miga. I read some comments about food not seeming fresh and this happened to me once with some sandwiches de miga. In the car we bit into it and the bread was hard, but when we went back they replaced them with fresher ones.

Quickly entering the name in my phone moments before stepping within the quaint bakery, I came too learn Rio de la Plata is a river in South America sort of dissecting Uruguay from Argentina. Bakeries are a place where my palate duality is in full conflict. Not being ever one who partook in the sweets, I very much respect all of them for what they are especially the time and care that goes into creating the miniatures. The duality comes by way of my gluttony for breads and similarly related items, its one of my lifes great pleasures to consume a toasted piece of bread or a croissant with a smattering of butter. Croissants had just run out, so I pointed and nodded my way through the back bins of a multitude of mini bread-ish baked goods as this gringo, unfortunately doesn't hablo. Arriving home with the standard issue white bakery bag full of new and exciting Argentine baked goods, I pulled out my Irish butter and began the delicious. consumption process.

We moved from NYC years ago , but this is the 1st place we visit when we are back. The pastries and empanadas are delicious

Please understand that it breaks my heart to give a three-star rating. I've been frequenting this bakery for over 30 years. It is a staple in the Argentinian enclave that continues to shrink. That being said, I went in for breakfast the other day and ordered the same facturas I have been ordering for over 3 decades. When the woman places them in the basket and hands them to me, immediately I noticed they were not the same baked goods I have been enjoying all these years. Politely, I asked her for cuernitos, she says these are them. I proceeded to ask if the ownership changed, to which she replied no. I then asked if the baker changed and she said no. Something has got to give! Something changed and you aren't fooling anyone. I decided to give it a chance, and took it to my table and ate it. 15 minutes later, I broke out in hives, even my body isn't fooled! My sister was with me, and her stomach gave out not long after too! We want our old baked goods back! This change is not good! Plus, where are the Argentinian ladies that usually serve us behind the counter????

I gave them a 5 Star just for being in business as long as they have! I used to go to this bakery every weekend with my little sis, mom and dad when I was a little girl like from (1974-1979) when we moved to Houston, Texas. Now I am 54 years old and I still remember them... We might have shopped there earlier than '74 I cannot remember exactly.. we used to get our bread, postre chaja, biscochos, churos, masitas... our birthday cakes, etc. I remember they used to sell some round empanadas that looked like flying saucers, lol.... with flaky crust that were so delicious!!... we would buy our raviolis and sandwiches de miga, y Pantone for Christmas! Congratulations "Rio De La Plata"... looks like you still got what it takes to stay on top!!! les doy 5 estrellas solo por estar en pie tantos años! If this were owned by a funky band from the late 80s and early 90s then it would be Rio De La Soul Bakery. Whereas if it were Rio De La Playa Hata Cafe, then it would be full of people complaining about their bfs and gfs cheating on them. Actually that's kind of what it is. What to get: anything with Dulce De Leche What else: let me explain the Facturas of life, son I came here to experience my first genuine Argentinian bakery. I'm in love with the Colombian, Peruvian, Brazilian, Mexican versions, so why not a little Argy Bargy action? The service was really nice when I first walked in. When they realized that I only wanted to buy a couple of Facturas, they were a little disappointed, I could tell. I felt awkward. I'm torn between a 4 and a 5 because I didn't like that awkward feeling. Also, the Factura itself was good... but not amazing. It was a little crusty, flaky, not so fresh tasting. The dulce de leche inside was a little hypersweet and syrupy and chemical tasting. Yet despite all this I really enjoyed the experience, and I understand that these little things are wildly popular in Argentina, and what I like most about this place, other than the idea of it and the lovely decor, is that the prices are absolutely bargain basement. You can get almost anything for 50 cents or a dollar, and that is remarkable. I don't know how they make a living with those prices, but for such a bargain, even though it didn't rock my world, I have to give a 5 star. And besides, they were very good. Just not mindblowing like the Colombian stuff nearby at Gata Golosa. Garland heard this place was actually opened by a German in 1947. Nothing to it I'm sure. And if it were Rio De La Plating Cafe, then let's just say that absolutely nobody, ever, should go there.

The best dulce de leche I have ever had!! I love their alfajores and cañoncitos. Their medialunas are also amazing. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

I visited this establishment based on the reviews. I was not so fortunate. Bought the Sándwiches de miga and the bread was dried. The cream pastries were sour. The dulce the leche pastries were really good and the cuernitos they tasted fresh. The empanadas were not good either. I drove 1 hour and 20 minutes to try what I thought really good Argentinian pastries. A bit disappointed. I suggest this establishment to check the freshness of their products.

Me and my husband have been to this place and as an Argentinian (born and raised) i can't explain how insulted i was. we've tried facturas, empanadas and sándwiches de miga and nothing, absolutely NOTHING tasted like it should. The food seemed old and dry... After a few hours me and my husband started to feel sick. Literally do not trust this place. Absolutely horrible and nothing tasted argentinian!

I live a block from this bakery and I never knew this place existed. I must have walked by a million times, but never have I pressed my face against the glass to peer in and see what is on the other side. Where was my curiosity as a child? Why did I not ask my parents if I can have some cake? I guess I was just too afraid to venture out of the Chinese bakeries. So when my friend told me about this bakery, I ran out the door to try it out. This place is legit. I fulfilled parts of my childhood by peering through the glass and happily thinking about which cakes I want. If I could, I would gladly press my face up against the glass, but I didn't want to ruin my makeup and make a fool of myself. Rio de la Plata has a ton of mini cakes and cookies for you to select from. Each one is $0.70, or you can buy it by the pound. It was definitely difficult to choose from all the deliciousness. After half an hour of deliberating, my sis and I picked out 5. My favorite was this Neapolitan type pastry with layers of dulce de leche. It was milky, and buttery and it satisfied my tastebuds. The alfajor I was not a big fan of. The alfajor is 2 cookies sandwiched between dulce de leche. I felt that the cookies were too dry for me. The other mini cakes we had were pretty good and all of them had the signature dulce de leche, but there are cakes and cookies without it. We also purchased a dulce de leche roll cake. It was ok. It was way too sweet, and seemed to be soaked in syrup. The cake itself was a little bit dry, and the syrup didn't help it much. I will definitely come back and try some more cakes. Even though the cakes may be too sweet for one's taste buds, the dulce de leche is simply too good to pass on. Perfectly sweet and milky. My friend raved about the medialuna which is this croissant thing filled with dulce. I will have to try that the next time my sweet tooth needs to be satisfied. First time Visiting this establishment have to say if your craving a sweet tooth this place is definitely worth coming too. The only thing I disliked were their empanadas. There merengue are very sweet and their coffee is excellent.

Found it by accident and we keep going back for more delicious and savory pastries, bread and empanadas. The ladies at the counter are very friendly and helpful even though we don't speak Spanish. Smile is all you need for better communication. We can't wait to try more.

I grew up eating facturas and I was delighted to discover that this place was within walking distance of where I live now. They have a decent selection of various facturas, along with cakes, fiambres, and empanadas. They also have a selection of pre-packaged Argentine goods, like alfajores, chimchurri, and dulce de leche. As for the food itself? Pretty good. Probably as close as one can get to facturas from Argentina without actually being in Argentina. Service can be a bit curt at times, but otherwise, a pretty solid place with really cheap pastries and goodies.

Great Argentinian Facturas! If you need a cake to impress at a gathering order a mil hojas cake it's to die for!!

I am actually more impressed by their savory items than their sweet. A spinach empanada was spot on, with tiny bits of red pepper in the filling. Garlicky berenjena in escabeche was intense. Five stars for both. Flan, nicely portioned and just firm enough tasted fine. The facturas did not blow me away. The medialunas were the small kind that I had in B.A,. and two of the others, plumped with custard were tasty enough but nothing special. Very reasonable prices and nice service. I am still going with La Gran Uruguaya for the best practitioner of these arts but I would certainly return if I am in the area.

Wow I'm giving 1 star I saw this reviews and took a ride over there. First it had a grade pending from the city I walk in I want to try the empanadas there where in a refrigerator I ask the lady you don't have them hot she said noo I heat it up I just walk away next door is a restaurant they sell empanadas delicious

Can I have some more dulce de leche please? Dulce de leche stuffed into little hollow triangular croissants? Dulce de leche slathered on fluffy bread? Or dulce de leche packed between two cookies? Rio de la Plata hits the spot. From the outside it looks like your standard Latin bakery. But its menu is a bit different. For one, it has a ton of mini Argentine inspired desserts. And many of them use the trademark dulce de leche. For example: mini alfajores -- two biscuits sealed together with dulce de leche, rolled in coconut flakes -- were quite memorable. Other little sweets looked promising too: fruit topped galletas, or Napoleon type pastries, made of thin dough stacked on top of fluffy whipped cream. I am usually not a sweets person, but even I was captivated by the selection. The best part about it is that most of the offerings are "mini", meaning you can do a crazy sampling of four or five things for only $2-3. Not bad. Other Argentine goods are for sale here, including frozen ravioli, numerous types of yerba mate, and an array of fresh empanadas. I tried the empanada de carne and was pleased with the fluffy and flaky texture, contrasting the sweet dough with the salted meat. Way more pleasurable than other variations of empanadas, which are either too bread-y or too greasy. I'll be back.

Since my kids were small we've bought their pastries and breads. Recommended their custard breads, flaky and buttery!

Sold us a disgusting cake that was too sweet. Cake was not fresh and tasted grainer than sand. We came back to bring the inedible cake to return and the manager dismissed us completely saying that's how the cake was supposed to be without even pulling up our receipt or order. Way to show customer service after ruining a birthday. Not surprising since this is a cash only bakery. There's plenty of other better bakeries in Corona so don't expect any help from them except to take your money.

The place is lovely and staff are nice, but I don't quite like their desserts. I bought a Napoleon cake, a caramel cake and a Tiramisu. All of them are too sweet. I make Tiramisu myself, for more than 15 times, and I don't think they use Mascarpone cheese, an crucial ingredient, in making their Tiramisu. The layers of Napoleon cake is not crispy and taste more like bread. To be fair, I only went to this place once, and maybe it was below their average performance, but I walked for half an hour to this place because it has such great reviews, and I am disappointed.

Like Natalia mentioned, visiting this lovely bakery takes me back to my childhood. There's nothing extraordinary about this bakery, except that it has all my favorite snacks from Argentina all in one place. Churros filled with dulce de leche, sandwiches de miga (not always fresh, sad to say, but when they are... mmmm hits the spot!). I wish they would make pascualina - the pizza/pie with jamon y queso. God I miss those!!! I believe they sell the dough, but would rather pay someone else to make it for me!

Sought out Argentinian pastries on a Queens adventure. The medialunas were okay but not as sweet nor as flaky as I remember from my time in Buenos Aires. It was a Sunday morning, so I'd assume they were fresh, but they tasted a little stale. Obviously better than nothing but I felt like their facturas left something to be desired.

I really, really want to give them more stars because it is a super cute little place and the elderly lady that served me was just as kind as can be. But she put two HUGE spoons of sugar is my cafe con leche before I could stop her and without asking me. Probably on account of her age, I felt bad and just took it anyway. One sip - Yikes! Sweet like syrup, who in the world could drink that stuff? The two mini-pastries (fracturas?) I tried were nothing to write home about, but they were decent little pastries, similar to the Puerto Rican style I am used to at home. Here's the biggest secret in NYC though... my bill for the whole nine yards was $2.75 so what can I say? A very cute Latin bakery with a very sweet grandma who loves sugar.

Stopped by on New Years Day looking to get a cake on our way to grandma's. I didn't think they'd be open but I saw people coming and going and was pretty surprised! The people there were SO nice. I was looking for like a strawberry shortcake but the super nice lady helping me told me that most of their cakes were dulce de leche cakes with layers of different fruit - they had strawberry, pineapple, and peach available and I went with the strawberry. I got a smallish cake (that would feed our group of 6 with plenty to spare!) that was $16. It was honestly way too sweet for us so unfortunately most of it went to waste - but it was totally my fault since I knew it was a dulce de leche and those tend to be really sweet! I also picked up half a dozen empanadas at $1.75 each. There was a bounty of different types of bread (a guy was refilling baskets going "caliente!" as he walked behind them - fresh out of the oven and hot)! Wish we had more time to explore but we were running late. The empanadas were SO GOOD, even eating them a day later. I would definitely go back for those! They also have sandwiches and what looked like hot dishes here as well - wish my Spanish was better!!!

I've been frequenting this establishment for years with my Argentinean husband. Today we trekked all the way from Brooklyn to get pastries. Respecting Covid-19 rules and regulations we waited until there were no other customers inside as they have posted on their door "3 people only". We were a party of 3. In the midst of ordering our pastries another couple entered and my son and I were asked by a female employee to exit the establishment to allow these newcomers to order. I told the woman that we had not yet completed our order. She insisted without any apology. To avoid further confrontation I took my son and waited for my husband outside. While waiting an additional 5 people entered the establishment, totalling 7 people inside at once and not one was asked to wait outside or leave despite their posted limit of 3 people. Had I not been ordering as well as my husband I would have gladly exited. However, that was not the case. It was unprofessional and very upsetting to be treated with such disrespect and little regard. I am disgusted and Rio has lost a very loyal customer.

Sweet service, even sweeter pastries! I got the dulce de leche danish things which were really sweet and flaky and delicious, perfect for a morning cafe. I also got the empanadas, which were good but not the best I've had. They told me they had tons of dulce de leche filled sweets so that seems to be their strength. I'd love to come here more often and discover the beautiful world of dulce de leche!

Argentine delight. ***** This place knocks it right out of the ball park. Easily order anything and it will be delicious. I'm not over exaggerating, its one of the only places I would go to blind folded and ask to try anything with full confidence. The downfall of this place that if your taking public transportation, it's a big hassle.

They sell factura which I remember from when I was little. Most awesome puff pastries. Only bad thing is that no one who works here seems to speak English but pointing works just fine. I bought a dozen. Sooooo good. Didn't realize that it was so to where I worked- now the only problem will be how many times I go a week! Haha!
