The real deal This was my first time here. Overall I was extremely satisfied. First off the restaurant was nice and clean . The themed decor was great. The Staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was very good and portion size was big. I recommend this place

The food at Rio Mirage Café is outstanding! The flavors are fresh, and the salsa has a great taste that really stands out. I especially enjoyed the burritos—the only small drawback is that the chicken isn’t chopped up much, which makes it a bit harder to eat. Parking can also be tricky, especially during busy hours, but once you’re inside, the quality of the food makes up for it. Overall, a delicious spot worth visiting!

First of all, the reviews are shocking. This place doesn’t deserve it’s 4 star rating. I’ve been here twice. The first visit was just to try it out, I ordered the chicken enchiladas, which were below average, so I didn’t return for a long time… until today. My wife wanted skirt steak, so we decided to give it another try, which turned out to be a mistake. I ordered the chimichanga and specifically requested the cheese sauce. As you can see in the photo, there was no cheese sauce at all. The chimichanga itself was below average, and my wife didn’t find any green spicy sauce in the fireman entrée either. Overall, the experience was a mess. Don’t believe the ratings you’re seeing.

Just an amazing place! The waiter we had was amazing and the staff were phenomenal. I got the chimichanga and it was so delicious. Me and my wife went to the Irish wolfhound before just to find out they like to kick people out for ordering water and food. Rio mirage turned our day around with the amazing service and food. Thank you guys for making our day better and being a restaurant that goes above and beyond.

Always a nice visit when we go. The staff is always pleasant and we are usually seated very quickly. They have a good variety of food choices, everything comes out fresh and delicious and they stay on top of service. The atmosphere fits the style well and seems clean even with alot of turnover. Parking is sometimes a little hard, if they are very busy, but there are ample spaces around the area, and outward, into the larger retail spaces if needed. Would definitely recommend for good comfort food and a nice experience all around.

I hadn’t been to El Mirage Cafe in about a year, and unfortunately, this return visit was a major disappointment. The tamales were dry and mostly masa with barely any filling. The chile relleno was honestly one of the worst I’ve had — soggy on the outside and lacking flavor throughout. The shredded beef burrito was dry to the point where it was hard to finish, and the meat tasted off, which is never a good sign. The caldo de res arrived lukewarm and completely bland, missing the rich, slow-simmered depth you expect from a traditional soup. Overall, the food lacked freshness, seasoning, and care. It’s frustrating because Mexican cuisine is known for bold, vibrant flavors — and none of that showed up on our table. I noticed Yelp has this place at 3.8 stars and Google closer to 4.5, which honestly surprised me based on this experience. Maybe it was an off day, but given what we were served, I can’t see myself coming back anytime soon. I hope they take feedback seriously and work on consistency and quality — there’s definitely room for improvement.

Lunch was wonderful! The food tasted great. We were able to get right in without waiting. We both ordered off the lunch menu. Perfect portion sizes for lunch. Our server was Josh. He is so friendly and happy. It is a nice change to see someone happy at their job. The next time we come to this place, we will definitely ask to sit in his section.

I loved my experience dining here. It was my first time here. The service was absolutely amazing. The food was amazing. I love the ,1.99 margarita on special.

We picked this place for our first dinner after our move! Spent the day driving then unloading and were really looking forward to some good food and a margarita! They did NOT disappoint! Our serve, Flor (I believe) was super nice and friendly. The margarita was great! We got a large and shared it-- was going to let hubby drink most of it but about a third of the way through, he was "feeling" it , so I got to finish it off. And the food? Amazing! Tortillas seemed fresh made (not positive), the food had great flavor, including the rice which I oftentimes end up spicing up with salsa-- didn't have to this time! Plus, it was super cute inside. Nice tall backed booths, authentic looking art. I'm actually really looking forward to our next visit, maybe when we aren't exhausted!

Baut traditional Mexican restaurant. Very large Menü filled with enchiladas, tacos, salad, burritos etc. very loud and lines outside. Popular spot in the middle of Bell Road Blvd. This is my friends favorite Mex place. Family owned. I ordered the steak fajitas. Their plates are huge! Be prepared to wait as there is no reservation's taken

Returned today and unfortunately did not have the best service. Seated near a large group/meeting and our server was delayed in taking our order. He later was more attentive and available after I asked his coworker to assist us. Menu was in poor quality-light and missing print making it difficult to read. Server indicated new menus are on the way. Salsa was good but chips nothing too special. I like that house salad is available as a side vs rice & beans. Salad was fresh, lots of veggies, large portion & tasty dressing. My dining partner & I both had combo platters. I had shredded beef tamale & shredded beef enchilada. Really good & served very hot. Partner had cheese enchilada and ground beef taco with rice & beans. He enjoyed his meal also. Festive decor, clean establishment.

Jackie was my bartender at lunch and provided outstanding customer service. She greeted me within a few minutes and put my order in correctly as I switched some things up and the food was amazing and came out in within minutes. Very satisfied like always coming here.

First time here and it was a great experience! Showed up at 4:30pm and was seated in 5 mins. The waitress (Sophia) was amazing and had great service. The chips were very crispy and good but the house salsa was a little bland. I asked for a hotter salsa and they delivered with a better house habanero salsa which mixed very well with my food. I ordered the speciality burrito with steak and it didn't disappoint. The beans are very tasty as well. My wife ordered flautas and got taquitos which is corn tortilla and flautas are usually flower tortillas. She still enjoyed them and could not stop talking about their sprite fountain drink. Very crisp ! The ambiance was awesome and had great music playing at the bar (Bad Bunny). Would recommend this restaurant!

We went in for an early dinner on December 23rd with a party of six: my fiancé, his parents, my adult daughter and son, and myself. The food itself was good, and I even took photos of several dishes we ordered. Unfortunately, the service really fell short. We had to ask several times for more chips and salsa, which was surprising given the size of our party. Even more frustrating, our table didn't have any flatware at all. We were confused as to why a larger group that arrived after us had their table fully set while we had to specifically request utensils. That felt unnecessary and frankly ridiculous. The male server also struggled with basic communication. My fiancé and future father-in-law are hard of hearing, and instead of making eye contact or engaging with them, the server stayed hyper-focused on entering everything into his tablet. When my fiancé politely pointed this out, the server appeared irritated and perturbed rather than receptive. On top of that, my fiancé was unhappy with his pork carnitas. Overall, while the food was decent, the service was disappointing enough that we won't be returning to this location. We've had much better service elsewhere.

I don't often give a 5 star review but our visit on 2/16 deserved this rating. Our server Josh, was outstanding! Anticipated our needs, offered recommendations, and was prompt and attentive. And the food--so delicious! I had the mini chicken taco salad and my hubby had the carne asada and ate every bite. I had specific requests and they were served perfectly. We had out of state visitors with us who very much loved the ambiance--felt like they were in MX.

First time here for lunch, very pleased with the food, the service and the ambiance. The lunch specials include an option of a side salad or rice and beans. The salad was delicious. The price is reasonable and the chips and salsa were very good.

We have been here a fair share of times now i feel like and both have been pretty good. But this past visit i had ordered a particular burrito with shrimp and they put carne asada instead. But since i was so insanely hungry i decided to not say anything because i couldn't wait any longer for the correct burrito to come out. Just a little scary for people with food allergies or restrictions. Hypothetically what if i cannot eat red meat and they brought it? Something people need to pay more attention to if they are in this business. Luckily im easy going and love all kinds of food and am not insanely hard to please. Just wish i could have shrimp that day since my uncles shrimp across from me tasted great too. I'm sure we will be back again since my parents are regulars here.

Visiting my parents for Thanksgiving week and they took me to this restaurant for dinner tonight! Loved the festive decor for the holidays! Service was really good! I loved the chunky salsa and chips! Food was hot and fresh! I was surprised by the Mexican pizza I ordered because I thought it was something else BUT it was huge and an actual pizza! I would definitely recommend this place!

Classic Mexican fare, and delicious. The atmosphere is classic, staff is great. The margaritas are very good but the bar can be slow, so if you might want more than one, I highly recommend going for the large size. Chicken fajitas are very good and generous with green and red peppers. One serving is enough to share, maybe with an ala carte taco or a shared app. I can't say that I love the fireman. To me it's steak and gravy. If you like that go for it, but not my favorite. Overall a great place!

It's always a good day for great, authentic Mexican cuisine. Since moving to Arizona eight years ago, this is our favorite. The last several dinners have been take out. Today, on the way back from Phoenix, hubby suggested Rio. Why not and beat the dinner crowd too? Yes! Dine in is wonderful when you can. The hostess was super friendly and engaging. I did not get her name because she wasn't there when we left. Thanks for being so personable! It was a relaxing afternoon enjoying delicious food! Rayna was our excellent serve! The chips are always fresh and warm! The salsa had some kick to it. I ordered my usual Pollo Con Verduras with black beans instead of rice this time. Hubby ordered his favorite Burrito De Pollo Especial with rice and refried beans. Lunch and dinner in one. The portions are huge so we have dinner for tomorrow. The restroom was clean and tidy! That's always a plus. It was another nice dining experience!

I highly recommend this place especially if you'd like a nice romantic evening. The atmosphere and ambiance are great, very comfortable Mexican. They have an old woman who makes homemade tortillas on certain nights of the week served hot to your table. Most of their dishes are very good and my husband really raves about the enchiladas.

This is the second location they have and much needed, full house every time I go. The staff is wonderful and I sat at the bar being a solo diner. Luz did not disappoint. She's taking tables, running the bar and making tickets. The host staff was so welcoming as well. Great margs. Good Vibes. Love it every time.

Love the service and the food. The place never disappoints us. All the servers are so friendly and love the tamales, the tacos and their fajitas.

My date & I were there last night at 7:13pm & had Sofia S at table 43 check #314. Service was excellent as we have had Sofia before. Margarita's were superb & the food was excellent as usual. This restaurant has always been consistent in my opinion. Brian Phelan

This place is great your traditional Arizona Mexican food! Margaritas are good love the flavor of the enchilada sauce as well and I'm picky!

This has to be some of the best Mexican food in the state. Their red chili is absolutely fantastic. This is our go to place when we really want good Mexican food.

Went by at noon, they were busy. Ordered food to go, 15 minute wait for food. The food is tasty, flavorful and delicious. My husbands favorite go to for Mexican food.

Great service the food is really good, they give you a free lemon in the water and the booth seats are high so it's nice and private and you can just look at the aesthetics of the restaurant.

We found a really good Mexican spot near home today after we voted at surprise City Hall. We came in at noon and it wasn't too crowded. We were seated right away. Our waitress, Grace, was very nice and an excellent server. Our drinks were kept filled, and the salsa bowl was kept topped off our entire lunch. She checked on us frequently and made sure everything tasted great. Despite the soda fountain being down when we arrived, she offered us bottled soda drinks and iced tea. Halfway through the meal, she let us know that the machine was up and working, and offered to replace our beverages. We ordered: - Coke - Unsweetened Iced Tea - Complimentary Chips & Salsa (good, fresh chips and very tasty chunky salsa) - Guacamole Dip - Fresh Hass avocado, Mexican spices, jalapenos, diced tomatoes, and onion blended into a tasty, spicy dip mix served with mini tostada chips (delicious, fresh, citrusy and creamy with slight jalapeño kick) - Burrito De Fajitas - A soft flour tortilla filled with your choice of grilled chicken or grilled steak, sauteed with bell pepper & onions topped with red enchilada sauce & cheese. Served with Guacamole & sour cream (Hubs said this was very good! He ate all of it) - Mahi Mahi Tacos - Seasoned to perfection, stuffed with Cilantro-Jicama slaw, topped with radish, and diced avocado, served with black beans, Cilantro Pineapple salsa on the side and Baja sauce (I decided on this after talking to the waitress about it, and she said these were a big hit with many customers. There is a really large piece of mahi-mahi in each soft corn double tortilla taco. The fish is covered with matchstick cut radishes and diced fresh avocado. Pico de gallo and a pineapple salsa are each served on the side of the tacos as well as the Baja sauce that has a nice chipotle spice to it. The black beans are absolutely delicious. A lime is served on the side. The lunch was very good. I will come back and get this again.) There's a lot of table and booth seating in two rooms, there's a bar area with table and bar stool seating, and there is a patio area. There is a men's and women's restroom available for customers in the lobby. This restaurant is located in a busy shopping center and there is plenty of parking in the private lot .

It's good food, and it's consistently good. Same with the service. It's popular, and it's often packed. They also celebrate Mexican holidays there and it's fun. I can't say anything bad about this place except that maybe it is too popular and too tightly packed. I would not go there on a Friday night. I try and find undiscovered gems, and this gem is definitely discovered. The order online and pick up is a great option, but the parking lot is also tightly packed.

We live in Sun City Festival, and have been going to Rio Mirage Cafe in Surprise for nearly six years. It's our go-to restaurant for Mexican food, and I think we've tried every Mexican restaurant within a radius of 20 miles of Surprise. The food is always the best, and the service is consistently great. Their menu is creative and extensive. Not cheap, but reasonable prices with generous portions. If you don't want the standard ho-hum tex-mex, they'll make up whatever you ask for. They'll first bring you complimentary chips and salsa; I find their standard salsa a bit wimpy, so just ask for a little of the hot stuff, and you can mix it in (I'm a kinda salsa snob). But be careful with the chips, as you want to still be hungry for your entree. But we'd never been there for lunch, and yesterday was our first time. They have a very nice selection of $11.25 lunch specials. I had their beef enchilada which comes with rice and beans, or a very nice salad. I had the salad. As with their dinners, their lunch portions are similarly quite generous. My wife had a couple beef tacos ala carte, one of which we took home, and some guac for the chips. Grace was our waitress, and she took good care of us...checking back, and keeping our Coke and iced tea refilled. We normally ask for Mark, but I guess he doesn't work lunchtime. Amazing and fun guy. And if you treat him nicely, he'll sing for you! But don't tell him I told you that. ?? They recently received some sort of award which I've included in this write-up. Don't ask me what it actually is, but it seems pretty impressive. So try Rio Mirage if you haven't already. You'll be wanting to give them an award, too.

We aren't from this area, but we will most definitely be coming back if we're ever back in the area. The food was excellent, but even more, the service was perfect. MARK, our server was just so natural and friendly, and really knew what he was doing. The whole staff had such a nice demeanor. Well done. And thanks for a great experience

So came in because everyone raves how great the food and service is... they are all wrong. Came in they sat us down and forgot about us they sat us down with chips and never came back 25 min later we are looking around and seen one guy who gave us water running around outside serving table and one woman for the whole restaurant. Not once did they ever come back to get our order. We got up and left we let the girl at the counter know and she didn't seem to care one bit Not sure how this place functions with two servers for a huge restaurant with a patio if I could give it zero stars I would. The salsa was decent the chips were gross they tasted like bitter Sad that businesses are so cheap they want to get away with hiring one or two servers for the whole restaurant

My favorite Mexican spot while I was in Arizona for 2 years and trust me, I've been to A LOT of Mexican spots while I was there. Service was definitely very attentive, friendly, and welcoming! Parking was very easy and plenty of parking. The chips and salsa were super fresh and flavorful and best thing is that it's unlimited! I've been to this restaurant so many times and my favorite dish was definitely their fajitas! Be ready to drop $20+ but it's worth every penny! It came out sizzling hot with tons of meat and shrimp! The asada tasted so fresh and delicious and the shrimps were huge and super flavorful. Their margaritas and cocktails are super delicious and big! It has plenty of seating and pretty clean.. it has plenty of TVs in the bar but only a couple tables and the bar is pretty small. Would totally recommend this spot!

We really enjoy Rio Mirage and dine there periodically. This was the first time at this location, but we enjoyed the same great food and friendly customer service as we have become accustomed to at their other location. Also, plenty of parking at this location. The ambiance is festive and reminds me of something meant to look like an old village located somewhere in Disneyland. Very nice and always something to look at. The setting the mood for a great dining experience. Throw a glass of beer on the table to make it even more festive! In my opinion, their food is at the at the top of the many Mexican Food options in the area! I have had their beef fajitas, tacos, enchiladas and this time a chicken Chimichanga. My usual is Steak and Shrimp Fajitas or a Mexican Plate. I really enjoy all of them! It's a drive for me, but the experience is always worthwhile. Ambiance - 5, Service - 5, Food - 5.

Stopped in for lunch as I saw that their nachos were made with melted shredded cheese instead of a queso sauce. They were amazing. Service was super friendly from the moment we walked through the door. Definitely will be going back to try other things!

Husband and I went in for lunch. Sat at the bar, which typically has better service. Sat for approximately 15 minutes with the bartender wiping down glasses. No one offered us chips, water, a drink, a menu - NOTHING. After sitting there all that time, we got up to leave. The "hostess" asked how we liked our meal. I said, "We wouldn't know. No one waited on us!" Never went back and have NO plans to ever go back! The "original" restaurant in El Mirage is excellent, but their prices have made being a regular patron impossible. I wish them well, but they need to get their act together!

Our service with Sophi was amazing, and the meal was delicious!!!! Roxanne the manager was very attentive and checked to see if our meal was delicious, so grateful for a delicious meal.

It's hard to find decent Mexican food in the West Valley. We had dinner here this week for the first time in many years and the food was amazing. My combination plate (Shredded Beef Taco and Chile Relleno) was so good. The beef in the taco was flavorful and tender. Relleno tasted fresh. Husband had the Ground Beef Enchiladas and he said his was really good as well. We'll be back for sure!

I have enjoyed this restaurant for years,especially the red sauce/ enchiladas and tacos. I went to pick up Caldo de rez for my husband yesterday. He typically like their soup. Once heated up it smelled off.He could not eat it.This is disappointing especially for $17.75. Will definitely stick to our other favorites.

We've eaten here multiple times over the years and it's always been decent with timely service and a nice atmosphere. We ate here last night for my birthday. Our waiter Mark was hospitable and on time. As with everything these days, the prices were high. I had fish tacos (average at best) and my wife and our daughter, bean burritos which they enjoyed. You won't be disappointed but you won't be wowed either.

The food and the service is what you will like , the wait time to be seated is very minimal compared with other restaurants. Then the minute you're seated you server will bring some chips and salsa to your table . Then there back for your drink order , in just a few minutes there back for your meal order. While you're enjoying your chips and salsa and drinks and the nice ambience you're food is being prepared in the kitchen ,at this time you meal is ready and the feast begins ,enjoy your food and drink and in best atmosphere available .

Everything the food is great,the service is excellent overall great experience the Chile Riano's and the tacos are all excellent and so is the beans and rice.

i took my family to dinner tonight and cannot believe I just spent the worst $100 ever. I received the shredded chicken burrito with the jalapeño sour cream sauce on top. it's served with beans and rice. I am telling you what! My husband makes this entirely better at home! zero flavor whatsoever! like literally. I would have rather gone to Filiberto's. the chicken burrito had nothing inside- only chicken. the sauce on top was literally a drizzle for an additional $3! I had to ask for a side to take home and they charged me almost $4 and didn't even fill up the to-go cup! my hubby said his beef tasted like freezer burnt beef. What the heck is the hype about this place? Even the rice and beans were plain. I felt like I was eating in my hospital room on a BLAND diet! side note, Hailey our waitress was great!

Our first visit here with family was good! They were very busy at 5pm. When we left at 6:30, the lobby was packed! All on a Thursday night! Services was great, food was delicious but my fried fish tacos were very dry. Usually when I order a dish like this, they're served with a creme' or some type of white sauce, but these came garnished with pico, cabbage and nothing more. The beans and rice were tasty, but no sauce was a big disappointment. The hubby enjoyed his chicken chimichanga which was served with sour cream and very fresh guac!

Our family just enjoyed a fantastic meal. Our new Go to. Staff and service were outstanding.

The food is excellent. The queso is the best we ever had. Highly recommend the El Rico special burrito. Margaritas were also on point.

Food good. Enchiladas were ok. Service not friendly at all! Waiter like a stoic robot. Drinks- awful sweet syrupy concoctions that we returned. Hostess not friendly -no smile-just a grumpy girl with an attitude. If I'm treated like this at a restaurant again I'm seriously walking out because a bad experience is a series of events...and this could possibly be an indicator of what's to come if a restaurant does not put emphasis on hiring the right people for these "front of the house" positions. Either train them or get rid of them. Isn't it part of the job description? "Must have a naturally friendly disposition"! Ambiance -loved it! Very "typical" 1800s hacienda colorful decor. Booths! The worst! Some giant idiot was sitting behind me moving around like a toddler. It was like eating dinner on a roller coaster! Ugh! Never coming back. Nunca mas!!

We have gone the last two Thursdays - different servers both times but the same amount of attentiveness from both and great food. Mexican Pizza with ground beef and all the fixings, cheese enchiladas, crispy tacos (ground beef and shredded beef) and El Rico with chicken were items we had - all were great and LOTS of leftovers to bring home. Make sure to get sides of the jalapeño cream sauce and guacamole. We prefer premium tequila margaritas but went with the suggestion of the server for the house margaritas since we wanted frozen - they were delicious and ordered the same the second time. The restaurant gives the feel of Old Mexico and clean and comfortable. We'll be back soon!!

Went there for a quick afternoon early dinner. They serve you chip and salsa when you get in the salsa is OK. It's a bit bland and needs some spices to the salsa. The chip is nice and crispy. However, it does not look like freshly fried right before you bring it out. Some places freshly fry the chips before bringing them out so it's warm which is nice. The server is really friendly and attentive. He was also really nice to modify some items for me to switch out chicken enchilada for more vegetables to make it a vegetable enchilada. The enchilada comes with beans and rice. It's nice to see that they don't pile on a ton of cheese into the dish, which some places do. All in all a great place definitely will go again. They also have a nice patio outdoor sitting if it's not too hot.

Good service, solid food. Ask for the habanero salsa if you like a little heat. The standard salsa tastes fine but is about as spicy as water

Consistent good Mexican good, but not the best out there however. For a sit down restaurant, it is the best Surprise offers in my opinion. We enjoy the shredded beef tacos and enchiladas, great rice and beans. Enjoyable Chips & Salsa and a selection of margaritas and tequilas. Fried Ice Cream is awful... It's not fried and more a scoop of ice cream rolled in a corn flakes mixture.

5 star. The food is excellent,never a disappointment. Always served on hot plates to help the food hot. Plenty of food for big eaters. Home made salsa and chips. The Waitress are all very helpfully and the restaurant is very clean . My favorite place to eat.

FINALLY found our new Mexican food place! We moved to the West Valley from Los Angeles in June, and have been searching high and low for food that meets our expectations. Rio Mirage is fantastic! The chicken and machaca beef are both amazingly flavorful and moist. The enchilada sauce was super tasty, not too smoky or hot. We both had the cilantro cucumber margarita, which was just a little sweet and pleasantly light. We can't wait to try the green corn tamale (a favorite back in LA), the chimichangas and the deep fried ice cream. We had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, who was incredibly friendly and welcomed us and introduced himself. We will definitely be back. Often.
