"We’ve already praised the iced coffee at Ripple in our coffee shop guide, but there’s always room for more. At least, that’s what we took away from a recent rewatch of Sister Act. Thankfully, Ripple’s cold brew stands the test of time, which is more than we can say of the movie." - joel ang

4 Great Spots In Boston For Iced Coffee

"A former pop-up, Ripple Cafe put down roots in Ashmont in 2019, where it’s been pouring cups of coffee and dishing out good vibes ever since. Head into the hip spot to savor some hot or iced coffee drinks, breakfast sandwiches, and avocado toast. Ripple is open for takeout and delivery via its website, and delivery via Doordash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats." - Nathan Tavares

I ordered a fish sandwich yesterday, which unfortunately wasn’t up to par and definitely not as good as the first time I purchased one however a staff member was kind enough to give me a free sandwich today and they even threw in a free slice of banana bread! It was top-notch customer service And I hope they get some type of recognition for their kindness and professionalism. Also the iced macchiato, while a little on the small side, is delicious. I will definitely go back there again.

Google
I like the pastries but the sandwiches are a waste of money. I got the grilled cheese with bacon and tomoto. There is more mustard on that Sandwhich than cheese and bacon where ? Croissants and danishes are good, but I can’t recommend the food.

Coffee was incredible. Vibe and decor are on point. Staff is friendly and they know how to make good coffee. I got a salted caramel latte and a white chocolate latte and both were absolutely delicious, I subbed almond milk for regular milk (+$0.50). Sometimes when people use almond milk it makes the latte watered down, but what I got was rich, smooth, creamy and thick. The espresso flavors really shined without being overpowered by the milk or flavored syrup. Please go here if you’re looking for good coffee and good vibes. 👌🏾

Ordered two sandwiches. One with bacon egg and cheese croissant, which only had one slice of bacon. Which is crazy considering the cost of the sandwich. Another with sausage, egg and cheese croissant and I paid extra for bacon—it was missing the bacon. The iced matcha latte with oat milk was tasty but too small for the price. Additionally, the girl at the register was rude. She was preoccupied, when I asked her if this was all of my order she curtly responded “everything’s 8’ there” without even looking up from whatever she was doing. She clearly wanted to rush me out of there.

Google
I loved the staff and atmosphere, but damn near $6 for a breakfast sandwich with one slice of bacon???? Seems unfair to the hungry customer who overpaid for a sandwich hoping to get more food. Please at least give customers two slices

Google
So happy that this spot opened up. The owners are passionate about their craft, know about their coffee and are just genuinely good people. Haven’t had the chance to try their new food options, but just by the looks of their Instagram, I can tell it’s delicious! If you live in the area, and want a quality cup of coffee, have no hesitation & just go to Ripple!!!

Michaela Flatley

Google
I love Ripple! Everyone on their team managed to be so friendly even while they are busy and working hard. The coffee is great and the atmosphere is cozy + welcoming. I joke that it's my office because I love having meetings here. They also play the BEST music. Elle has created such a gem here!

Very nice place beside the MIT Museum. The coffee was great, and the people working there were extremely nice! Definitely will come back.

Yelp
This review is for the Cambridge location. I ordered the jerk turkey tip bowl with djon djon (black rice) and a Haitian patty. Prior to going there I looked at the pics because I know that when food is served in a predominantly white area, it tends to be served different/ in an inauthentic way. I looked at the pics and was like ok, the rice appears to be legit. So I order the bowl and got double rice instead of the salad. I open it at home and this is what I found. Some uncle Ben's tasting white rice with green peas. Not a tint of black to it. Almost $20 for a bowl and I wasn't provided with what I ordered. I ate the turkey tips (which heads up it isn't an actual jerk taste. It is sweet with a clove and pepper taste). And I ate the Haitian patty which was actually good. Side note, I've had the coffee in Dorchester which is delicious so I'm not knocking the establishment altogether but the bowl was atrocious, the rest went in the trash. The pickliz were not at all spicy and the rice was mushy and flavorless. I called the only number provided on their site (the Dorchester location) and I left a message because they didn't have a number for the Cambridge location to provide. I was told someone would call me back and heard absolutely nothing which is disappointing. My money went to waste and I don't appreciate that no one reached out to discuss this.

Yelp
This place has changed & I am not thinking for the better either. They have a digital display w/ their menu items, which is too bright & annoying to look at. They have this tall shelf w/ random things on it for some reason that just takes up space that could be used for tables. I was not impressed by their baked goods which they obviously don't make there since what you get is a cold, refrigerated muffin. Makes no sense to me as I was expecting a room-temperature muffin. So when I ordered it based on what I saw, I didn't realize I would have to wait for whoever was not the order taker to get it. So as much as I wanna support local, this place isn't worth it.

Yelp
Ripple Cafe is all about the vibes. The beautiful natural decor and R&B music transport you to a different world and instantly puts you in a good mood. It's an oasis among the Ashmont area and features a black women owned business. The coffee is solid here. The cappuccino was smooth and nicely balanced. The almond croissant was nice as well especially when warmed up. I didn't get a chance to work out of here but it's on the louder side so not ideal for calls. I think you are also limited to 60 min of wifi as well but if you are an Xfinity internet customer, you can use their hot spot here.

Nadia S.

Yelp
Let me spill the beans about Ripple Cafe--it's an absolute vibe if you're in search of a workspace with background tunes. However, be aware that it can get a little loud for Zoom calls. But hey, if you're working without meetings, it's the perfect spot to get in the zone. Oh, and did I mention they have a grass wall? You know what they say about places with grass walls--besides being Instagrammable, they often hold stories to share. Now, let's get to the good stuff. As I entered the space, I received a warm greeting that instantly made me feel welcome. After perusing the menu, I decided to go for a dirty chai latte and an egg and cheese on a croissant. Let me tell you, the drink was simply awesome--flavorful and satisfying. However, the sandwich fell into the "okay" category--it didn't quite reach the level of culinary excitement I was hoping for. If you're seeking a spot to re-caffeinate and get some work done, Ripple Cafe should be on your radar.

Yutin Z.

Yelp
Definitely recommend the pistachio vanilla latte here! It was really good, a bit on the sweeter side but nice balance of flavors. Didn't have to wait long for my drink either! It did seem like it was a bit of a wait for food though.

Mustang S.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere and nice coffee shop! They have wifi upon request and the service was good. The People working seemed happy to be there which enhanced the experience. The food was also really good and not over priced. The sweet plantains and the sauce were a very good snack!

Heidi L.

Yelp
Usually when a cafe is directly across major public transit, the atmosphere is harder to maintain (in my guesstimation due to higher traffic/ppl asking to use the restroom, etc) but this space was a pleasant surprise. I was an hour early for an appointment for the first time in my life and didnt know what to do with myself, so walked in. Side note: I do have a secret weakness for pink xmas trees. yes, its Feb. but why cant it be xmas all year round, I say. Ambiance: positive vibe cashier and sandwich-maker woman who had a bright smile. Ppl here were chill/not yappy. Though I did come in on a weekday so wkends might differ. Food: I got the Pistachio Walnut Muffin w Moroccan Mint Tea. (Love the two tea bags. The muffin was on the sweet side but thats what I get for not listening to the cashier who reced the corn muffin instead) but it was Moist, wasn't swimming in almond extract, and had nice crunchy walnut texture bits. I also love that the yelp community is intentional about supporting Black, Woman owned businesses. If I had to offer one crit, it would be to offer a few other creative bakery options. My dream would be for Clear Flour(brookline) to offer BIPOC business connections in the greater Boston region so that all stellar cafes like Ripple can offer high end, affordable, creative bakery options

Yelp
So I don't post often. I traveled to Boston to conduct a rehearsal . Arrived in town early and looked for a place to grab a cup of coffee! What incredibly friendly staff and such an amazing ambiance. It was clean, great music and I enjoyed my time there. Good news was that it was bustling. Do yourself a favor a check this gem out!

Maggie L.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich was absolutely horrible they used something that looked like eggs hard texture rubbery for a place that looks so good inside terrible quality food. First time trying it out I will never give them another try. I'm forced by the system to give them a star they don't deserve it

Heidi D.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe!! I stopped in to get breakfast, and ordered a bacon egg and cheese (with chipotle mayo!) and an iced mocha latte. Both were DELICIOUS! I've had my fair share of iced mochas in my day, and this one is up there for the best. The staff were kind and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. I will definitely be back!

Alana T.

Yelp
I wish I never ordered from here because I now know where all my money and calories will be going towards I've had my eye on this place for a while. I live close and work close to it and today decided to order the tuna melt for lunch and it was like the upgraded 3.0 take on a tuna sandwich. The peppers were a nice touch and I added bacon. Honestly I'm prob going to get one later in the week. My only complaint is that we can't modify items, I would like to try different items but don't eat some of the ingredients listed.

Jaleesa T.

Yelp
My colleague and I met at Ripple Cafe for a work meeting. We wanted to support a Black-owned business in the neighborhood. I'm not a coffee drinker so I got a berry smoothie and a muffin. The smoothie was great, and the customer service was amazing. I live nearby, so I'll definitely be going back soon. I had already had breakfast, so I wasn't hungry, but someone recommended the hash browns and breakfast sandwich, so I'll try that next time. (The hash browns are popular and they run out often).

John N.

Yelp
iced coffee was sour/old and sourdough breakfast sandwich was lacking in meat. hopefully they make some changes!

Martyna F.

Yelp
Cute picture place!! With an awesome feel!! A women ran business!! The drinks are delicious!!

Jim B.

Yelp
Great location that is right across from the Ashmon mbta station. Very good Counter Culture coffee served by friendly and knowledgeable baristas. Definitely worth a visit

M C.

Yelp
I've never had a grilled cheese that wasn't grilled/toasted and the cheese wasn't melted. I also received undercooked hash browns. The muffin was nothing special. I did enjoy the coffee but it was $7.59 for a medium sized iced latte, so not worth it. I won't be back

Matt L.

Yelp
Went there due to vegan options. We got 2 coffees (which were very nice) 1 bacon and egg sandwich for my dairy allergic wife and a steak and cheese vegan pattie. The bacon and egg had a weird sauce that they didn't tell us would be on it and could not tell me if it had dairy. The vegan pattie was the tiniest microwaved thing shoved into a crassiant. 2/10. Edible but would never eat it again. Overall kinda disappointed in the food, coffee was good.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Bummed because it was raining and they weren't letting anyone sit inside because it was "reserved". It was a little weird to watch a few guys sit all by themselves with a bunch of empty seating around them. We went during the morning rush on a weekday. It was obvious the baristas were new, they didn't have much of a flow. In the time we were waiting, several people were confused/trying to get an order fixed. The menu is simple but solid. I got a cinnamon roll and my friend got a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Both items were good, nothing impressive, nothing to complain about. We both got a latte, again, no complaints. The place was averagely trendy. Overall a fine place if you are in the Ashmont area, not really worth a trek to otherwise.

Peach T.

Yelp
My husband and I found this place during our five day stay in Dorchester. Conveniently located just outside the T station in Ashmont, so we could grave coffee each day before hoping on the train. Service is friendly and the music is the best! Found some new music by the Carter's I love! I recommend the iced americano with cream and hazelnut. Good tasting espresso for sure. A plus, the women working there are very kind and quick. I was impressed! That's why we returned every single day we were there. Thank you for having us!

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Recently moved into the Dorchester area, seems really local and it adds really good ambiance to the neighborhood. It has the basic menu of lattes and espresso drinks and also smoothies. Definitely a great pick me up when getting right off the Ashmont T station!

Ryan F.

Yelp
Great coffee, pastries and super friendly service. Love the space. Just wish there was more seating.

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Small cafe with great service and wonderful ambiance. They have sandwiches and smoothies. Got my banana bread warmed which is top tier. Conveniently on dot ave next to ashmont station.

Madison R.

Yelp
The scenery is so beautiful and is a relaxing place to attend. This company is Black Owned and I extra supportive due to this. I definitely would come back. Highly Recommend!!!

Gloria M.

Yelp
Ordered a coffee and a bacon egg and cheese one a croissant for my boyfriend and he said it was the best bacon egg and cheese he's ever had!

DeAndra W.

Yelp
The drinks are delicious. The new Haitian Pattie's are a good size with a flakey crust and a truly yummy filling.

A. David W.

Yelp
I had their egg and cheese on an English muffin. It was excellent and only 5 bucks. Their lemon Square was good too.

Claribel A.

Yelp
I ordered the Greenhouse Smoothie and the Gourmet Gourmet Grilled cheese + avocado. Everything was fresh, delicious and delivered quickly. I will be returning. One suggestion is to add a way to replace the sausage in the The Spicy Dejeneur. I wanted to order it but I don't eat pork but I didn't know if there was an alternate option.

Venecia W.

Yelp
This vegan patty is unacceptable. Inside was harder than brick, the crust around it was okay. I've had this dish before and it was perfect (reason for the 3 and not 1 star).

Jc S.

Yelp
Favorite coffee shop in Boston!!!! Amazing breakfast sandwich and very rich coffee, the workers their are amazing and treat everyone with kindness.

Miriam W.

Yelp
Very cute coffee spot right off of the Ashmont T stop. The inside is very bright, clean and refreshing. The workers are friendly and there is always great r&b music playing. The coffee is also very delicious! Beans are roasted perfectly and the coffee is well balanced. I always return when in the area.

Phil M.

Yelp
We were in town on business and start to grab a coffee and tea. This is a hip place with some great food and good looseleaf tea.

Champ G.

Yelp
James Guerrier (owner or Ripple Cafe) and Rock Milen of Ripple Develompment built our home with major system issues across the board.. nothing was done right from walls to floor throughout. Disappeared and never fixed anything.. beware they sold us the house with "Supposedly" all new everything only learn they installed used items from windows to cabinets. Found out the property was in pre-foreclosure.. they disappeared and haven't finished doing the work. They ought to be ashamed. They lack the moral courage to do what is right. BEWARE !!!! You've been warned !!

Danielle C.

Yelp
I LOVE this cafe. The coffee is delicious and all of the food offers are SUPERB! I just had a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant this morning and a hazelnut latte. First time having a breakfast sandwich and I was NOT disappointed. I wanted to write a review to support a local black-owned business. There are really good vibes inside the cafe. I would DEFINITELY recommend going and sitting down in the ambiance post-COVID. Everyone is nice, the owner is committed to quality, and every drink I order really perks me up. I HIGHLY recommend. I am a teacher and I am never inside for more than a couple minutes when I stop on my way to work. I do not go anywhere else in the morning because I don't want to be disappointed. I am never disappointed at Ripple!

Casey V.

Yelp
Rude staff! I want to patronize local businesses but not if I'm treated like garbage. The woman at the counter couldn't have been less interested in being friendly or warm.

J. G.

Yelp
Absolute horrible customer experience. I walked in and asked for green tea and was offered a selection of Black teas to choose from. Secondly, I asked to use the bathroom, but it was not for customer use. Thirdly, I asked for my small tea put in a large cup but was charged extra for the tea despite there not being any --only additional hot water. I informed the server that you should charge me for the water and not tea, but that fell on deaf ears. I was informed that I was paying for the non-existent extra tea because the "additional hot water expands tea leaves to become more tea". [Facepalm] Fourthly, the music is too loud! I couldn't even focus on my assignment due to the oud volume. Lastly and most importantly, the WI-FI is only for one HOUR use! WTF! After 15 minutes of the worst customer experience I have ever received, I left. Don't fall for the trendy look of this place. Bring back FlatBlack.

Katie M.

Yelp
Inside is super cute! Employees were nice and provided quick service. I ordered a medium hazelnut coffee with almond milk and unfortunately it was too sweet/syrupy for me to drink. I would try again but skip the added sweetener!

Darth R.

Yelp
Really nice coffee and one of the only places in the area to get a really nice latte. The owners are incredibly nice and have some really interesting things for sale such as vegan patties ("try the steak and cheese"!) which make this an easy stop in for a quick bite and cup of coffee before jumping on the T. They've done a really nice job on creating the right products.

Zack D.

Yelp
First went here when it was a pop-up over in Codman Sq. Glad they now have their own space in the old Flat Black spot by Ashmont Station. Great to have a delicious and friendly black-owned coffee/espresso shop in Boston that's the opposite of pretentious. They carry Counter Culture Coffee. Not sure if any other roasters are in rotation.

Luis R.

Yelp
Terrible. Placed an order at 10AM and they cancel 2hrs later. Waste of time. Thank you Uber eats for the $5 credit. Ripple Cafe could have at least called.

Monica O.

Yelp
Ordered online for pickup. Got an iced latte and avocado smoothie and 2 croissant sandwiches. Everything was delicious and ready for me when I got there except the smoothie to ensure it was fresh when I picked up my order. Thank you

K A.

Yelp
Great location, great service, nice interior ambience, and the background music was amazing while I was there too. I got the Spicy Dejeuner and it was INCREDIBLE. Perfect combination of flavors and just the right amount of spicy for me (it is spicy though, so don't get it unless you like spicy).

Kelsey P.

Yelp
i put in a big order for 5 people and picked it up 10 minutes later - the women working there were so kind and considerate. They double checked my order and made sure I wasn't missing a thing! we took the food and drinks to go and OMG it was the best breakfast I've had in a long time. I love the bacon grilled cheese w/avocado and swear to god they have the best ice chai ever. 10/10 would recommend. my only complaint is they aren't open on Sunday cus I want to order again lol

Jamil P.

Yelp
My wife and I love coffee and enjoy visiting small shops like this. Unfortunately, we discovered this shop during the pandemic. I gave them four stars because the overall value for what you receive is fair. The sandwiches we purchased are consistently good. The coffee unfortunately is hit or miss. The staff is pleasant and professional during these stressful times. This means they don't make it a chore to purchase from them. For Pandemic information they require mask and they have cashless payment options. They also package your item nicely. This is a welcomed change from places that throw everything in the same bag. I typically order through the various apps and just pick up my order. I know I didn't provide a five star but honestly their is room to grow. In my opinion they are more than worth a visit.

Mark D.

Yelp
Love supporting local business! I like there ever growing menu and book selection. Great location - across from Ashmont Station. The people that work there are always courteous.

Katy D.

Yelp
I visited this establishment after the recent snow storm during what they called a 'soft opening'. I had a lovely coffee and my sister had a wonderful latte made with Assam tea. We also sampled some meat patties that were just delivered that morning. They were quite delicious and we encouraged the owner to start selling them. Overall the place had a nice industrial vibe and is a nice new chill spot in the Ashmont Station area Check it out when you're in the area ; you'll be glad you did.

Johanna B.

Yelp
Love their lattes, fruit smoothies, their pastries! Great service! Great service always, even during this pandemic! And I love supporting black and woman owned businesses!

Caroline C.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Some of the nicest employees I've ever met in a restaurant. There was a girl there who went over everything in detail I was interested in ordering and was so knowledgeable and sweet. Even if the food wasn't good, which it was, I'd go back because the staff was just that awesome. I was having an awful day and they totally turned it around for me. Can't wait to come again

Angie N.

Yelp
I've tried it twice now because I'm really big on supporting local coffee shops, but both times has gone terrible. The first time I got a cold brew with oat milk and specifically asked for only one pump of simple syrup and it was sweeter than a blending a donut into a Dunkin' coffee. That was a waste of $6. The second time in asked for plain cold brew with oat milk and a blueberry muffin. I had to leave the cafe before getting my muffin bc it took them over 15 minutes to get this and I was going to miss my train. Another waste of $9. Unfortunately, this is the last time I give this place a chance.

Kat F.

Yelp
ripple is one of the greatest coffee shops in all of boston. you can't go wrong with any of their food, much of which has haitian influence. not only are the drinks and food great, but the service is superb. the staff always puts a smile on my face and makes my morning a bit brighter
